Definitely El, she doesn’t really understand what things are cheesy and just thinks it’s sweet. Max acts like she doesn’t like it but she secretly loves it.

Neither of them are super clumsy but El’s less coordinated than Max, every single time she walks into the doorframe she apologizes to it

8. Who is a morning person? Who is a night owl?

Max is definitely a night owl, El’s more of a morning person but could also stay up late if she wanted. She just likes to see the sunrise and make breakfast

10. Who is always reminding the other not to forget important documents/general things before leaving out the door?

Neither of them are very organized but El bought a notebook and makes cute little to do lists every morning, she’s the one that reminds Max now

Ronance big sisters/gay mentors for elmax headcanons :

Whenever they have an acclaimed girls night at the Wheelers, Robin always makes sure to make El a waffle extravaganza!!

Nancy always makes sure to give El a ride to visit Max in the hospital, and post coma has Max stay at her house for awhile after her trailer was destroyed, (which makes for a funny Max & Mike sibling dynamic)

Max try’s to teach Robin how to skate board, to which ends up with Max cleaning Robins wounds because she eats shit after one second of being on it.

Nancy teaches El how to do make up in different ways, and how to style her hair in different ways

They have different fashion show days we’re depending on the day they get to pick and outfit for a different person, so El might pick an outfit for Robin who might pick one for max who might pick one for Nancy who might pick out one for El

Any time Mike gets annoyed about them wanting to use the basement they all hang up on him 😭😭

Whenever Max and El get into an argument they both go to both Nancy AND Robin so then ronance is just like 🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️

Max and El feel safe and comfortable exploring both her femininity and masculinity when with Nancy and Robin, who help the explore new things and explain how they found balance in their own lives

Max gets her license before Robin does to which the party finds quite amusing

El will help Nancy when she has a lead on a story, by finding where they are and ease dropping, rest assure they are always corrupt and evil people, to which Nancy only uses when confronting them to scare them into thinking she knows a lot and has proof (even if she does or doesn’t)

Robin gives Max and El free movies, but whenever it’s Max who comes in she always teases her saying “got a movie date?” And always gives Max’s the most cheesy romance movies (but El always loves them)

Who said “I love you” first

Max. She let it slip while they were cuddling and then kinda panicked about it, but her nerves were immediately calmed when El said it back.

Who would have the others picture as their phone background

They both would. On one of their dates, Max snaps a picture of El and sets it as her background. Once El realizes, she does the same thing. (In a modern au lol)

Who leaves notes written on the fog in the bathroom mirror

They both do. El starts it by writing little messages every so often, like “I love you,” “E + M,” or “Max” with a bunch of hearts next to it. Max calls her cheesy but eventually starts leaving them too, although they aren’t always romantic. Sometimes she slides her hand down the mirror to make it look like a bloody handprint, accompanied by ominous notes like “help,” or “he’s coming.”

Who buys the other cheesy gifts

El. She’s a huge hopeless romantic. She gets inspired by movies and bases a lot of her gifts and date ideas based on those. She’d definitely be the type of girlfriend to give huge bouquets and heart shaped chocolate boxes with little hand written notes attached to them. Max has a box of all the teddy bears El has given her for holidays and sometimes for no reason at all.

Who initiated the first kiss

El. It was during one of their sleepovers late at night, when they were lying in the bed giggling about anything that came to their minds. It got quiet for a moment and El just went for it. It felt right to her. Max was super shocked and confused, but she was over the moon obviously.

Who kisses the other awake in the morning

El, most of the time. She’s a natural early riser, and after she’s had her morning coffee, she loves to wake Max up with a bunch of kisses all over her face (normally resulting in a groan and “five more minutes”). There are a few rare occasions though, when Max wakes up first and returns the favor.

Who starts tickle fights

They both do. Ever since El discovered tickling, she started randomly running up to Max and attacking her with tickles. After a while Max started seeking revenge. Now it’s a challenge for who ever can make the other laugh the longest before they break free.

Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch

El. She likes spontaneously showing up from time to time with a box of a sandwich, fruit, and sometimes candy. Occasionally though, when El is having a bad day, Max will show up with a plate of eggos or a bouquet.

Who was nervous and shy on the first date

Mostly Max. She had never dated a girl before and was unsure of what the “rules” were, and was really scared of messing things up. (El had never dated a girl either but was less nervous about the social aspects and stuff, due to her upbringing.)

Who kills/takes out the spiders

They both do. When they see a spider, it’s on sight. They show no mercy.

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk

El. She’s a very giggly drunk and loves to go on and on about her amazing girlfriend. Max thinks it’s very cute but knows it’s a sign to get her home and drinking water.

Absolutely!

They're both always holding hands. Like constantly. It's all they do, it's incredibly soft and adorable.

El thought for a solid day that Max was the person Will liked (platonic madwise!!!) which Will immediately corrected that notion with immense panic. (El didn't get why he kept insisting that Max would never like him, Will just knew about their crushes and didn't want any dumb misunderstandings to get in the way)

El gives cheek kisses, Max gives hand and wrist kisses

Related to the first one but they are just always touching. it's a grounding agent for them, it helps them from panicking and reminds them that both of them are alive and okay.

After Max wakes up, El does not leave her side for weeks. She knows Max is quite strong and capable, but staying next to her all this time gives her a sense of control since she's convinced she was too weak to save Max last time, this time she won't be weak.

Max immediately calls that dumb and tells her she's the strongest person she knows, both by physical and emotional strength.

They both are obsessed with tracing their thumb in circles on each others skin

El is an early riser. Max is not.

Both of them enjoy staying up late and just hanging out

El goes to bed before Max.

El gets sick often due to having a weak immune system because she wasn't exposed to germs as a child. She's also a horrible sick person.

Max somehow never gets sick, but when she does, she is WORSE than El.

They have weekly date nights where Mike and Will come over to watch the kids. They do the same for Mike and Will.

They have 3 kids, aged 5, 2, and 4 months. (I haven't picked out the names yet)

El doesn't have to work as the government pays her money to not tell anyone about the lab. However, she works in a small coffee shop for fun and an escape from the family.

Max works as a school counselor. She chose this job to help students who struggled with the same things she did as a teen.

El is very clingy. Max doesn't mind because it's El.

El takes a lot of pictures of her family. Jonathan comes over to give her pointers sometimes.

Max usually hates being in pictures, but she doesn't mind El's photography.

El still gets nightmares about once a week about the lab. Max is always there to hold and comfort her. El doesn't have a therapist.

Max rarely gets nightmares about Billy's death or her Vecna visions. She has a therapist she sees once a week to help her cope.

El loves all holidays. She puts up decorations at least a month before the holiday. Max couldn't care less, but she helps her decorate out of love.

does anyone else notice how for queer headcanon ships, the vast majority of the fandoms hc one as gay and one as bi? i’m not sure i’ve ever seen a non-canon queer ship where both characters were bi4bi or gay4gay. here are just a few of the examples i could think of.

Byler (Stranger Things): Will (canonically gay) - Mike (bi)

Ronance (Stranger Things): Robin (canonically lesbian) - Nancy (bi)

Elmax (Stranger Things): Eleven (lesbian) - Max (bi)

Steddie (Stranger Things): Steve (bi) - Eddie (gay)

Buddie (9-1-1): Buck (canonically bi) - Eddie (gay)

Destiel (Supernatural): Dean (bi) - Castiel (canonically gay)

Amezona (Grey’s Anatomy): Amelia (canonically bi) - Arizona (canonically lesbian)

and these are just the ones of the top of my head, there’s probably a lot more out there. i know there are some exceptions but I just noticed a pattern. the vast majority of these fandoms never headcanon both characters in the ship the same sexuality.
