people I'd like to get to know better
tagged for this one by @thegeminisage and @starlightsupernovae thank you!! :) the two versions of this meme had slightly diff lists so I have simply mashed them together.
☀️ Fun Fact: my main career is in desert plant/soil science, but i work side jobs as a professional mermaid/freelance fine art model :) behold: the duality of jade
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🎵 Last Song on Repeat: Glue Myself Shut by Noah Kahan. Finally was in a mood to listen through this artist that a bunch of my friends got really into 2-3 years ago... he's like a less jazzy american hozier. anyway despite not being latin this song triggers my body's bachata instinct for some reason, so i've been dancing around to it while cooking etc lately
🎥 Currently Watching: Last actual show I watched was one of the Expanse episodes, I convinced baejax to watch it and picked back up in s2 for a rewatch i started like... a year ago and didn't finish. i will also probably not finish all the seasons here. In terms of ongoing shows i've been keeping up with: been watching Pokerface which is entertaining, Murderbot which I didn't like the tv show compared to the novels (rip), and the latest season of Taskmaster which I still need to watch the finale for.
🎬 Last Movie: i have a friend whose favorite movies/franchise is the original Jurassic Park, so I tagged along when she went to go see the new Jurassic World this week. it was mediocre, but somewhat entertaining, which is how i've felt about most of the JW movies. some of the dinosaur behavior i thought was more well done than previous (the t rex acting more like an interested reptile checking out something new in its proximity vs monster intent on killing for sport) but some of it was beyond ridiculous as usual (mutation/combining dna does NOT work like that).
📖 Currently Reading: I've been reading (via audiobook) some Discworld books by Terry Pratchett as a quick palate cleanser after a bunch of mediocre reads/disappointing novels, just finished Equal Rites this morning. Next I'm going to listen to the newer Andy Weir book, Artemis.
🎮 Currently playing: I finally started Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and despite being miserable at any kind of rhythm-based combat (my true nemesis is syncopation fr), I am enjoying it a lot!!! I love Whimsical i love Sad i love Tragic... perfect combo. I am also replaying DAI with my Adaar inquisitor and also playing through DAO with a friend who's never played before making all the choices :) I am ALSO very very very eagerly awaiting the 1.0 release of Abiotic Factor in like A WEEK... except the friend I played the beta with is currently living out of his car for an internship so we won't be able to host the game until he's moved into a more stable apartment and can set up his computer again 😭
🍫 Sweet/Spicy/Savory: i love baked goods that are sweet BUT flavorful--i don't like JUST sugary things like buttercream frosting. I mostly love sweet+tart combos like fruit pies/crisps/pastries, or that combine other interesting flavors (I make an INCREDIBLE lavender goat cheese frosting, i promise it's so good). For just idle snacking, salt salt salt. Potato chips and pretzels my beloved.... another fun fact about me as a child i used to suck on the salt tablets for water softeners like candy. don't do that probably
💔 Relationship Status: devoted to my pixel elves (.......and now one human crow) 😌 also platonically married to @alimsurana xoxo. otherwise: too emotionally unavailable to date + that image of whoopi goldberg saying "i don't want somebody in my house" when asked about marriage
🧠 Current Obsession: dragon age... always......... i'm gonna ride this fantasy wave in my brain for another like year and then i might try to shift back over into sci fi mode, and replay Mass Effect since I never did finish my Legendary Edition playthrough. but yeah im hitting that game universe Escapism hard rn tbh
🔍 Last Google Search: "set libby to only show english results" because i get a lot of spanish books/translation when i search and i keep not double checking before i check them out. and my spanish is not good enough that i can just listen to them anyway 😔
🎨 Currently Working On: hourrghhhh too many thigns as always
writing: solavellan truth spell fic, lucanis/spite ossuary fic, followup spite perspective fic, lavellan gets a dog fic, fallout from the fade secret progress as always (shhh), World of Thedas zine content. also a lot more that have docs but the above are the priorities/ones with clear goals for finishing currently
embroidery: digital mockup and linart for the Davrin embroidery pattern, digital mockup for the Lavellan tarot embroidery pattern, lineart/thread color list for the romance icon pattern that i'm gonna post for like $3-5
DA traditional arts & crafts fanbook: currently determining what the overall aspect ratio will be, and making photo templates/guides/examples for people interested in submitting. phone cameras aren't the dimensions of most print options so i wanna have clear guidelines about staging/cropping so that bits of people's art don't get cut off. these will be posted over at @dragonageartsandcrafts once they're done!
tagging: i know this one floats around regularly & i took a few weeks to get to it myself, so ignore if you've already done it! @paperchamomiles @beachhotdog @eelqueen @nail-art-no-jutsu @virshiral @crimsonphantasmagoria @imasithduh @lathbora-virann

perhaps peter has an important interview for something like a college interview or something and perhaps reader had something to do before it so couldn’t go with him (for moral support) but then she rushes through her thing to get to him and surprises him like 5 min prior, gives him a good luck kiss when his name gets called and tells him to call her after. they celebrate that night (since it went well) with pizza, a movie and cuddles.
Interview - Tom!Peter Parker x Fem!Stark!Reader
Pairing: Tom!Peter Parker x Fem!Stark!Reader
Warnings: None! Super fluffy <3

Note: Reader isn't Stark's daughter she's Stark's niece
A/N: I hope you like this @urmykindofwoman !!

Peter and I were in our senior year, which came with all the busy days and rough nights of writing college application essays, getting final assessments to the teachers, and booking interviews. While Peter and I were dating, we definitely weren’t going down the same career path. I had my own after-school radio show, wanting to go into something arts and humanities-based, and Peter clearly wanted to do biology and biochemistry. He wanted to go to MIT; science and technology were his whole life—especially with his ‘internship’ with Tony, who had helped him get an interview.
“Y/N? Where’s my suit?” Peter asked, running around his bedroom frantically.
“It’s over there, Pete. Relax, and you’ll do fine. I’m sure Tony put in a good word for you anyway,” I smiled.
“And you’re sure you can’t come with me? I just—this interview is a big deal for me, and if I don’t get in, then I have no idea what I’m going to do,” he said as he folded the suit and put it into his backpack.
“You know I can’t. I’ve got the radio show in an hour, and I can’t miss that,” I sighed, getting up and grabbing my bag. Peter nodded, reluctantly accepting the situation. “But make sure to call me once it’s over and let me know how it goes, okay?” I pulled him in for a quick kiss.
“I love you,” he grinned.
“Ditto, spider boy.”
I walked to the radio station to meet Ned, who had been co-hosting with me for the last few years. We didn’t have any guests for this episode, and instead, we were talking about the latest Star Wars movie that had come out. The episode lasted for an hour and a half, and I sat there staring at the clock to see if I could leave and make it to support Peter before his interview.
“And that’s our show!” Ned smiled and played the last piece of music, finally turning off our mics. “Okay, you better hurry if you’re going to be on time to surprise Peter.” I nodded, grabbing my bag and rushing out of the studio. I ran down the street towards Peter’s house, where he was doing the interview online. Knocking on the door, I noticed it was only 10 minutes before the interview started.
“Y/N?! Oh my god, what are you doing here? What about the show and Ned and—”
“I ran here when we finished. You said you wanted me for support, so I’m here, Spidey,” I grinned. Peter returned the smile, picked me up, and spun us around.
“Okay, Pete, you need to get yourself ready. They’re going to call you any second now, and you’re gonna ace it!” I pressed my lips to his in a lighthearted kiss, my hand coming up to curl his hair in my fingers. He pulled away once his computer started ringing and closed the door to his bedroom.
I sat there scrolling through my phone, hearing the hum of Peter’s voice through the door when he responded to the questions. MJ had sent me a few text messages about our English report, so I took the time to respond. About an hour later, Peter finally opened the door and walked out. I stood up excitedly, walking over to him.
“How’d it go?” His face showed no emotion, and my mind raced through all the possibilities. I’d put him off his game by surprising him, hadn’t I? Peter was going to hate me, and Tony was going to be so disappointed in Peter. It was all my fault.
“They said it was a pleasure to meet me,” a small smile grew on his face, and he looked shell-shocked, completely unsure of how to act.
“Oh my god, Peter, yes!” I screamed, running into his arms. “We need to celebrate! I’ll call Tony and organize something. We are 100% having a pizza party with the others.”
“You’re too good for me, Y/N.” Peter pressed a kiss to my cheek as I pulled out my phone to call my uncle.
“Hi, Tony. Yes, Peter did well in his interview. I’m wondering if we can order pizza and invite the others for a movie to celebrate?” Peter placed kisses across my jaw and down my neck, smiling with each press of his lips.
“Okay, I’ll call them and make sure they’ll be there,” Tony responded.
“Tell him I say hi,” Peter mumbled.
“Peter says—”
“I can hear him, Y/N. Tell him to watch where he puts those hands. Be here by 6, okay?” Tony laughed before hanging up. Peter pulled away and looked up at me with a questioning expression.
“Stark Tower at 6.”
“God, I love you,” he grinned.
“I know you do,” I said, getting everything I needed for dinner.
“That was 100% a Star Wars reference, wasn’t it?” Peter pointed to his Empire Strikes Back poster, and I nodded, trying to suppress my laughter. Peter shot out a web to pull me close to him again.
“You’re a nerd, you know that, Parker?”
“As if you’re any worse; you’ve got that Stark blood in you. I can smell it with my spider-sense—”
“Your Peter tingle,” I interrupted. He let out a loud and annoyed sigh.
“And you’ve ruined the moment.”
“You ruined it yourself, spider boy.”

Heres something I've been thinking about working on for a while now and I'm finally getting to it. Heres the pilot of it, let me know if you guys want me to make it into a full series (which I might do anyways🧍‍♂️)
Here's the link on Ao3 for the series if you prefer to read on there :)
Weird Science | Pilot Chapter
Egon Spengler x Fem Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary; honestly I don't know what I'm gonna do with this, I'll leave the summary to finish later.💀
Notes; This is a fem reader and it is mentioned quite a bit, this is to make things a little easier to write but I may consider making it a gender neutral reader if enough people want it and ask. [This is also kind of a long one for a pilot chapter.]
Warnings; Some swearing and mentions of smoking. [Also very very minor mentions of drinking.]
Part 1/? | Next Chapter>
꒷꒦︶꒷꒦︶︶꒷︶︶︶︶꒦꒷꒦︶︶꒷꒦︶︶꒦︶︶︶꒦꒷
"Hey, can you hand me that soldering iron please?" I say, holding my hand out.
"Of course Dr. L/n," Theodore says, handing the iron carefully.
Theodore Thalmann was a freshman student majoring in Computer Engineering at Columbia University, the very University I've worked at for 7 years now.
Theodore came for an internship to work with me, wanting to learn a little more visually than just reading some book, writing down notes, and listening to some old guy talk for hours on end, and frankly you couldn't really blame him for not wanting to deal with that.
Theodore was a sharp kid, not lazy like most of these kids now, and willing to learn rather than just be here for some extra credit, that's what you liked about him so much.
"Do you need anything else Dr. L/n?" Theodore asks, writing a bit more into his notebook.
Just then, a knock at the door interrupted your thoughts.
"Yes actually, can you go get that for me?" You reply, taking the protective glasses off of your face.
You get up out of your chair, taking off your black rubber gloves and placing them in their respective area. You liked things organised in your lab, it was much easier to find exactly what you needed, and it was also that you never liked a mess where there was work.
"Is Dr. L/n in here? I need to have a word with her." A voice you were far too familiar with comes from the door where Theodore was standing.
Oh, this can't be good.
"Yes she is, come on in Mr. Yeager," Theodore says, letting the man inside the lab.
"Ms. L/n, pleasure to see you again.. as always." The man says snarkily.
You turn around and walk towards him.
"Hello, Mr. Yeager. Come to complain about the music volume again? I promise I hadn't played anything today, whatever you might've heard must've been someone else."
"No, actually, I wanted to talk to you about something more serious. Do you think you can get this student to be somewhere else so its a more private conversation?" The Dean says, smiling sarcastically.
Dean Yeager wasn't exactly fond of you, hense the use of your last name rather than Dr. L/n, regardless of how hard you had worked for that title. But to be quite fair, you weren't very fond of him either, so it was more of a mutual hate. There were probably a lot of reasons why he wasn't very big on you, but one of the most obvious had to be the fact that you played your music too loud while you worked. Far.. too loud.
"Of course sir. Um, Mr. Thalmann, would you mind stepping outside for a few moments? Me and Dean Yeager need to speak to eachother in private," You say, turning towards Theodore.
Theodore gives a nod and takes off his pair of gloves, placing them haphazardly on a nearby worktable then stepping outside of the lab, shutting the door.
"So, Ms. L/n, I wanted to inform you that you will no longer be working here at the university, I'm giving you a one month notice so that way you may pack all that you have and get out of here by then, is that understood?" Dean Yeager says, a shit eating grin on his face.
"Excuse me?" You say, after a few moments of silence.
"I said you are out of here in a month, fired, let go of, from the university, Ms. L/n," He repeats, venom laced in his voice.
"But wh-what am I supposed to do about Mr. Thalmann? I can't just tell him-" You stutter, still letting the fact you're being fired sink in.
"We will move him with Professor Dietz, someone that actually has a degree to teach, Ms. L/n". He says, cutting you off.
"But I've worked here for more than five years now, you can't just let me go. I graduated from this very University Mr. Yeager, for what reason do I deserve to be let go?" You say, anger becoming more prominent in your voice as you continue to speak.
"We are letting you go because of the constant loud music, because of the constant loss of electricity on the campus due to your failed experiments, because of your lack of necessity and funding of being here, Ms. L/n. We cannot continue to fund and pay you just for you to cause disruptions and only be useful to students if they are working under you as an intern. Even when you do have them, they only complain about how you do absolutely nothing in ways of teaching them, you are the issue, Ms. L/n."
The students don't think I teach them? But they've never complained.
The thought of the past interns you've had having bad thoughts about you and your ways of teaching them hurt far more then being fired. Sure, you got good pay from the university and your projects were funded, but the students wanting to come in and learn more about what you just so happen to love was the reason why you were still working there in the first place. And sure, you would sometimes blast music while showing and teaching them, but they never complained.
"The students never complain though, I do my absolute best to teach them Mr. Yeager, I don't underst-"
"That is the last of this conversation, Ms. L/n! You will be out of here in one month, and you will get no more students doing internships with you from right now to the day that you are completely gone from this place! Goodbye, Doctor." Dean Yeager says, walking out of the lab, shutting the door.
After a few moments Theodore comes back into the lab, slowly and gently closing the door.
"Ah, Mr. Thalmann, um there's going to be a change in plans for you with this internship unfortunately. I hope you don't mind but you'll be moved to go and work with Professor Dietz starting tomorrow, I do apologise," You say, straightening your back.
Theodore stays quiet for a minute, the air thick with awkwardness.
"What Dean Yeager said about all the other students disliking you and your teaching, I don't agree with him. I like your teaching and don't think its right of Dean Yeager to just fire you on the spot like that, Dr. L/n." Theodore says awkwardly, trying to lighten the mood of the room.
"Thank you, Mr. Thalmann, but unfortunately that still doesn't change my situation about my work here. I truly do appreciate all of your help and willingness to learn more, especially from me for these past couple of weeks. You're a great student and I'll be honest, I envy Professor Dietz for getting to teach you," You say, a slight smile on your face.
"Thank you, Dr. L/n, do you need any help cleaning up?" Theodore asks, taking the rubber gloves from the table and placing them next to yours.
"No, no, there's no need for that at all, you're free to go early today, thank you for the help Mr. Thalmann."
"Alright, thank you again for teaching me Doctor, I hope everything else goes well for you," Theodore puts the lab coat you let him borrow folded up onto a clear table, then leaves the lab.
You sit down in your rolly chair, clearly worn out as it was bought almost 8 years ago in the late 70s. Even with its rips and threads sticking out from it, as well as the black soot stains and worn cushions, it was still comfortable and somewhat soothing. It reminded you of when you first started working here, about a year after you graduated from the university. And now that you think about it it makes you a little upset that for the past 12 years now this university is all you knew.
Sure you had your own apartment and went out for groceries sometimes, but you never had friends that you still kept in touch with, so you never really went to bars or parties. And at this point having an apartment proved useless as most of the time you would fall asleep in your lab, you would eat in the university's cafeteria, and after that you would just get back to work and drown every other sound out with music from the radio or your cassette tapes.
You get up and grab your coat, leaving the lab to go outside.
You pat your pockets and pull out the cigarette tin, hoping you hadn't run out of any, and to your relief you had just two more left. Grabbing one out of the tin and placing it lightly hanging from your mouth, then lighting it and inhaling the smoke.
You make a mental note that you'll have to go to the drugstore and buy some more.
"What the hell am I gonna do now?" You mutter to yourself, taking another drag of your cigarette.
"Y/n? Is that you?"
You turn your head to see an old friend you hadn't been in touch with since you've graduated at this university.
"Ray?"
"It is you! Oh am I glad to see you. Its been, gosh, how many years now? How have you been? What are you doing here?" Ray says excitedly, asking a million questions all at once.
"Its so great to see you too, Ray. I've been okay these past years, and I work here actually." You say, giving a light chuckle.
Well, more so like you worked here.
"You work here?"
"Yeah, I've been working here since after we graduated actually, what are you doing in terms of a job?"
"I work here too actually, I'm surprised I never seen you around here. You remember Venkman and Spengler though?" He says, taking a half used cigarette out of his pocket.
"Yeah, how can I not remember Venkman, the guy constantly harassed and flirted with me until I graduated, kinda annoying. But I don't recall ever speaking to or interacting with Spengler though."
"Well I've actually been working with them two for a couple of years now, we're working on some equipment and studies to see if ghosts and entities are actually real, parapsychology you know. It would kinda make sense for you to not remember Spengler though, he was a quiet isolated sorta guy. Mind lending me your light?" Ray rambles on, gesturing for your lighter.
You hand him the lighter, taking another drag from your cigarette yourself as he lights his.
"That's neat, I honestly can't believe that I hadn't known you were here though, I would've loved to talk to you and hang out more after graduation," You say, grabbing your lighter back from Ray.
"We should go out for drinks sometime! It'd be a great way to catch up with eachother, I could bring the other guys too! Maybe all of us could ask you questions about our equipment. Given that I don't really know how to do it and all but you're the one that got a Doctoral in Computer Engineering and'll know a bit more than me, but mostly just to hang out with eachother again, like old times!" Ray says excitedly, a smile on his face.
"I'd love to go for drinks with you guys, not sure I'll be of any much use now though because I've just gotten fired by Yeager and have to move all my stuff out by a month from now, so studying and doing experiments are not something I'll get to work on for a while now," You chuckle, putting your cigarette out on the palm of your hand.
"Oh thats such a shame, Y/n I'm sorry that happened. It seems like Yeager has got a grudge on you too, huh?" Ray says sympathetically, putting a comforting hand on your shoulder.
"Yeah but honestly, I totally deserved it. Do you remember those series of blackouts throughout the campus that would happen twice a week? Those were all me and it took him 5 years to get sick of it and finally fire my ass,"
You laugh, now feeling a bit better about the loss, mostly because you get to speak with Ray again.
"I heard from some of the other professors that the cause was coming from the engineering and computer science halls, it reminded me of you in a way, and it seems I was right about it!" Ray laughs, letting out a dry cough afterwards.
God, Ray has always had such bad smoking problems. I can't say all that much though because that'd be too hypocritical but that cough is starting to get worse.
You two continue talking a while longer, forgetting how long you've been out there until hearing all the ruckus from the students getting released from their classes.
"I should get going now, Peter and Egon are probably wondering where I went by now. Oh! How can I get in touch with you by the way?" Ray says, turning back around toward you.
"I'm usually over here in my lab but it seems it won't be like that much longer, but here's the number for my home telephone, call me if you need or want to plan anything and if I don't answer leave me a message for my answer box," You say, pulling out a notepad and pen from your pocket, scribbling the number down, ripping out the page and handing it to Ray.
"Thanks Y/n, I'll remember to call you later on! Sorry about the whole getting fired thing, by the way, but I hope we see more of eachother. I'll talk to you later!" Ray says, taking the paper and waving goodbye as he runs off to a different area of the university.
---------------------------------------
Once you were back into the lab, you looked around to see what you should start packing. You didn't have much space at your apartment so you would either probably have to rent out a storage unit or call your parents to see if they could store some of it in their attic at home.
First I need to get boxes, and then a bunch of bubble wrap and foam so none of my equipment or computers break. I'll have to go and buy some from the post office.
You go and grab your keys and head back outside of your lab, locking the door before you leave. Walking to your car, you take your keys and unlock the door of it.
As you sit down and turn the key it stalls, taking a few more tries before it finally starts. I really gotta get a new car or at least get it checked out.
You start to drive to the nearest post office, and due to the horrible New York traffic it took you about 20 minutes to get to it even if it was only half a mile away. But that's what you got yourself into deciding to move to one of the most populated states in the US.
You park, grab your wallet, lock your car, and proceed into the post office.
You see the large amount of people in there, checking their post boxes, mailing out letters, and waiting to get their packages accepted to be sent out.
You walk to the area they have the boxes set up, grabbing a few medium sized ones and proceeding to the shortest line so you can purchase them. Once finally at the front, you place the flattened boxes onto the table.
"Hello, just these and also, do you guys have the big rolls of bubble wrap?" You say to the man at the desk, who already looked far too tired.
The man nodded and pulled out a large roll of bubble wrap, placing it on top of the boxes.
"Is that all, ma'am?"
You nod, taking your wallet out of your coat pocket so that way you have your money ready.
The man punches numbers into his machine, looking at each thing on the desk as he does so.
"That'll be $21.47, ma'am."
You take 22 dollars out of your wallet, handing them to the man as he takes it, placing the bills into the register and grabbing a few coins for your change and handing them and the receipt to you.
You thank the man and take the boxes and bubble wrap with you, struggling slightly at how awkward it was to hold the 10 flat boxes and bubble wrap in your arms.
You open the trunk of your car, putting the boxes and bubble wrap in, just barely fitting to where you can close the trunk door.
God, this is gonna suck.
꒷꒦︶꒷꒦︶︶꒷︶︶︶︶꒦꒷꒦︶︶꒷꒦︶︶꒦︶︶︶꒦꒷
I literally wrote all of this in about 7 maybe 9 hours total because I just thought up something and was like, "oh yeah, this'll be great," and that's at least what I'm hoping now. I want this to kinda be slow burn and I know that's what I always say when I do series, and I never finish them, but I am really hoping I'll be able to do more with this then my other failed attempts at series [if I take longer than a month to get another chapter of this out I want you all to yell at me and tell me to finish it]

Just finished up the semester and boy am I not doing great. Another semester, another struggle. I managed to pass everything far better than expected, except for my diffy q's class. I was 2% from the C I needed and I am so mad a C- won't do it, but I know understanding the material better through retaking the class will only benefit me in the future. And having gone through the class once will definitely put me ahead and basically guarantees a pass if I work for it. Not everyone passes the first time, second time, or even the third time, and I'm just going to have to be okay with it and readjust. And it's the hardest math I'll ever have to do, so I'm more than happy to take my time since I appearantly have to lol. I'm still hoping to get out of here in May 2027 at the latest.
Other than that, I picked up a year long internship last semester at our career fair and will be working part time until summer hits, then I'll go for full time. I'm so excited to get industry experience! And getting an internship as a first semester Sophomore was crazy, I'm so so grateful.
My final grades were as follows:
Physics II (and lab): A (easy with no exams)
Mechanics of Materials: B+ (surprisingly I did more than barely pass (so thankful for the open note exams))
Differential Equations: C- (still upset that I have to retake it but I'm going to do better no matter what)
Spanish 4: A (no hablo muy bien espaol, pero mi participación y uso de duolingo fue suficiente. no más clases de español para mi.)
Engineering Computations: A- (considering that the second half of the semester was kicking my ass, this was a pleasant surprise)
(~16ish credits)
My new classes are:
Engineering Statistics
Dynamics
Differential Equations (again)
Computer Science in C/C++ (lecture and lab)
CAD Design II (lab)
(~15ish credits)
I'm cautiously optimistic about the upcoming semester. My schedule looks way better than the last semester's and the spring will definitely be easier to function in than this trippy winter weather. I'll get through this and build my skills until I can officially call myself an engineer one day. I have my doubts after my failure to pass diffy q's the first time, but so many successful people have failed engineering classes before making it, and maybe this just has to be my wake-up call. I'm not stupid and I'm capable of doing great things even if it feels like it's lifetimes ahead of me right now. I just have to actually work for it instead of relying on my natural intelligence and insane academic luck. Suffering is the life of the engineering student after all, better own it 😅
That's it for this update, thanks for sticking around with me on this journey! Stay tuned for the rest of the quotes from this semester and whatever else comes next!

not quite an academic fuck up but i worked really hard all my life especially in college to set myself up for an easy financial future in the corporate world and i got it and i have a job secured for post grad and it’s the worst ever. my internship with the company was mindnumbingly boring and yesterday i broke down in my professors office hours and finally admitted to myself that i cannot have a life that doesn’t involve creation/literary analysis which sounds lame af but i basically am accepting the fact that after a few years working im gonna go to grad school of some sort and probably only ever be just okay financially. and that’s really hard bc immigrant parents of color and expectations and my own debilitating fear of failure but i have to be brave and admit that this is what is truly important to me and what makes my life worth living and it’s gonna sound so corny but it’s genuinely been people like u who write long meta posts about anime and mangas and unabashedly love the act of writing that helped me nurture my love for writing of all different types before i admitted to myself that i wanted writing to be my life. so thank u for that and thank u for being brave bc it’s helped me decide to do the same
i really. man this made me cry a bit
im in a similar situation as you in many ways. i really dont hate computer science or programming - but im of the belief that i will never find anything or any career that i love as much as writing. i did consider going into the humanities but like you i have immigrant parents and i put stability over passion. also, i learned that i think putting longterm pressure on myself to monetize what is ultimately a passion for me is really stressful. for me though, work will pretty much always be secondary to my hobbies and interests. that was what i concluded as compromise. ill build a life around wanting to do what i wanted. i wanted a job that i can do with a technical skillset even if it does not incite the same joy and that i could do without resenting.
i had this realization early, and i dont regret pursuing compsci at all. its very accommodating to me and i enjoy it. but in a world where i had nothing else to consider, i think i would've been nice to push for something else. im minoring in creative writing as compensation and compromise. maybe ill change my mind in the future, or maybe not.
this silly hobby is also what makes my life worth living in many ways. beyond the scope of just fanfiction, it is writing and media and art and literature that keeps me alive. i commend what you're doing and im unbelievably proud of you. i hope we can be proud of each other and make amends with our expectations to do what is important to us and pursue what makes us happiest even if those paths look different. its tough but we'll do it. i will and so will you, one step at a time.

Texts from the Future
Everybody has been asked this question at least once in their lifetime: where do you see yourself in 5 years?
No two people have the same answer, but in truth, the best way to respond is to say the following: it's very hard to know what will happen in 5 years given how quickly the world changes these days. Usually, it’s best to follow up with an example of contenders for the next biggest thing in 5 years. This example can vary from year to year.
When you think about it, that question about where you see yourself in 5 years is guesswork with extra steps. The vaguest guests are the best ones. Anything too specific, and you will have guessed wrong.
I’m lucky. Instead of guessing, I can just check my phone. I've gotten all these notifications dated 5 years into the future. At first, I thought it was a glitch of some sort, but it's really an interesting story.
Like the ideal response to the five-year question, the notifications my phone gives me are vague. I’ve only received five, dated a year apart. You have done something you previously felt was impossible. You have dodged a bullet. You have gone on a trip. You are in for a surprise. Wake up.
I ignored them at first. I thought it was a joke. It took me the full five years to discover what it all meant.
The first one was easy. I graduated high school and began to do my core courses for college over the summer. Both of those things felt impossible.
The second one came as a bit of a surprise, and not a good surprise. During my second semester, I discovered that I failed fall term discrete mathematics because my course notes were to be submitted for credit. Notes with messy handwriting were marked incomplete because they couldn’t be digitized for automatic grading. Thankfully, it didn’t matter. The degree requirements for my major changed, and the DM course no longer impacted my academic standing. I got an internship at Apple and it was smooth sailing for the rest of the summer
You would have had to stick your head in a bucket to miss the third one. I did my fall semester abroad in Spain.
I discovered just how unpleasant the surprise was. What was supposed to be my last year ended up being my second last year, and where things started to sour.
First, the university dismissed the entire physics department, forcing me to transfer to computer science. Since that discrete mathematics course that I failed was now a requirement, I had to retake discrete mathematics. Halfway through the term, the instructor died of a superbug and the department couldn’t find anyone else to teach the class. That meant they eliminated the course.
I had to meet with an academic advisor to rectify the problem. Once I explained to her what happened, she didn’t believe me. She leaned over and asked, “Now, were the last five years a dream?”
“They were until they became a nightmare,” I responded.
The academic advisor shook her head. “That’s not what I mean,” she continued, “Like, did everything that happened in the last five years happen for real or are you dreaming?”
“What the hell are you talking about?” I said, taken aback.
She quickly answered my question. She mentioned that there have been reports that victims of torture, during the act, would retreat into a fantasy world from which they could not wake up. In this catatonic state, the victim lived in a world where their life went great.
The only way that they realized they needed to wake up was a string of things going catastrophically wrong that led them to some sort of reminder within their fantasy world which would tell them the truth. Even then, it would often take months before they were ready to discard their fantasy world and wake up.
Now, I assumed she was either full of shit or making stuff up to get me to leave. Either way, it wasn’t helpful.
Today was the day I finally woke up.

September 23, 2024
Today was extremely productive for me!
I was able to lock in to over 4 hours of coding today (which is not super normal for me), so I am extremely proud of myself for putting in an extraordinary amount of effort into something I love! Once I was able to work on just coding today, it reminded me why I love it so much; which is something I really needed. Recently I have been really doubting my skills and love for computers, but after today I really got my spark back.
In addition to working on school projects, I finally decided to start working on LeetCodes. I haven't used it before, but I think it will be great practice and I'm super excited to try it out. (This is probably something I should have started much sooner, but at the same time, it's never to late to start!)
Tumblr media
Tomorrow I have an internship fair, hosted by my university. It should be a great experience to talk to recruiters and learn about companies I could intern at in the future. Last year I went to my universities internship fair, however it was online, so it was much easier to talk to the recruiters when they weren't face to face... I am planning on finding somewhere to intern soon, as I'd like to have an internship by next summer.
Finally something academic related that ISN'T computer science related (since I know I have some followers from langblr). Today in my German class I got to write an essay, which I LOVE to do. Our essay prompts were related to relationship vocabulary, so I got to write about my boyfriend. It was so fun and I wrote so much but was still the first to get out of class (which I was proud of). I absolutely ADORE writing in and using the German language. I am still considering a minor in German, but I am not sure if I will have the time or energy to do so. This is also my last semester of German (if I don't chose to minor), which I am quite sad about. However, I will definitely continue to practice and study on my own out of school!
>> Take some time to take care of yourself this week and know that you are loved ! xx

From Workshop to Aerospace: How Mechanical Engineering Fuels Your Career Dreams
When people hear “mechanical engineering,” many think of tools, machines, and factories. But the truth is far more exciting—especially for students who dream big. If you're aiming to work in cutting-edge sectors like electric vehicles (EVs), aircraft design, or space tech, a BTech in Mechanical Engineering is a powerful launchpad. And the right college of engineering Bhubaneswar can help turn those dreams into real-world success.
Let’s break down why mechanical engineering is more than just nuts and bolts—and how it can lead you straight into the automobile or aerospace industries.
Why Choose Mechanical Engineering?
Mechanical engineering is the backbone of modern innovation. It blends physics, mathematics, and material science with practical design to solve real-world problems. From engines and machines to renewable energy systems and space vehicles—mechanical engineers are behind them all.
During your BTech, you'll dive into:
Thermodynamics and heat transfer
Mechanics and materials
Fluid dynamics
CAD design and simulation software
Robotics and automation
This strong technical foundation prepares you for specialized roles in both the automobile and aerospace domains.
Shifting Gears: Careers in the Automobile Industry
India has become a global automotive hub. According to industry reports, India ranked as the third-largest automobile market in 2022, surpassing Japan. That means more companies, more innovation—and more opportunities for mechanical engineers.
Popular job roles include:
Vehicle Design Engineer
Quality Control Engineer
Powertrain Specialist
EV Battery Systems Analyst
Production & Maintenance Engineer
With the EV wave gaining momentum, companies like Tata Motors, Ola Electric, and Ather Energy are seeking engineers who understand both traditional mechanics and emerging tech.
Students from top college of engineering Bhubaneswar institutions have already begun contributing to EV innovation through campus-based R&D clubs and EV model projects.
Aim Higher: Opportunities in Aerospace Engineering
Aerospace may sound like rocket science—but it's well within reach for mechanical graduates.
Organizations like ISRO, DRDO, Boeing, Airbus, and HAL frequently hire mechanical engineers for:
Propulsion and thermodynamic analysis
Aircraft structural design
Materials testing for high-speed applications
CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
If you’re fascinated by aircraft, drones, or space missions, mechanical engineering opens that door. Some students from Bhubaneswar’s leading institutes, including NMIET, have even completed aerospace-focused projects and internships during their final year, using the college’s strong lab and research support.
Must-Have Skills for Industry Readiness
To stand out in the automobile or aerospace job market, you'll need more than textbook knowledge. Focus on building the following skills:
Software Tools: Learn SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD, ANSYS, and MATLAB
Simulation & Coding: Use Python or MATLAB for thermal, stress, and dynamic simulations
Certifications: Enroll in online courses via NPTEL, Coursera, or industry-endorsed platforms
Project Work: Build go-karts, drones, or design EV components—these show practical understanding
Institutes like NMIET, a top private college of engineering Bhubaneswar, actively promote such learning through workshops, mentorship, and campus competitions.
Internships & Job Opportunities
Top companies don’t just want degrees—they want demonstrated skill. Here’s how you can stand out:
Internships: Try landing one with Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, DRDO, or GE Aviation
Student Competitions: Participate in SAE BAJA, Go-Kart Racing, or Aero Design Challenges
Campus Innovation Labs: Join or start project teams that work on real-world prototypes
Students from colleges across Bhubaneswar have landed internships through their performance in such competitions—especially in national forums like SAEINDIA events. Several teams from NMIET have made it to the finals in Go-Kart and Formula Student challenges.
The Road Ahead: Mechanical Engineering in the Future
Industry 4.0 is changing everything. Modern mechanical engineers need to know more than mechanics—they must understand automation, IoT, and smart manufacturing. In aerospace, innovations in drone tech, reusable launch systems, and sustainable aviation fuel are reshaping the field.
This evolution means more exciting opportunities—if you’re ready to upskill continuously and stay curious.
Final Advice: Choose the Right Learning Environment
If you're planning a career in automobiles or aerospace, a mechanical engineering degree is the perfect first step—but where you study matters.
Choose a college of engineering Bhubaneswar that doesn’t just teach theory but actively supports innovation, real-world learning, and industry exposure. Institutions like NMIET focus on hands-on training, industry tie-ups, and skill-based education—helping students gain an edge even before graduation.
So, whether your dream is to design EVs or help build rockets—gear up, get skilled, and let mechanical engineering drive your ambitions sky-high.
