Snippet from "I'm Where the Spiders Go." Buck Tommy S1AU

I finally have Buck and Tommy meeting for the first time in my canon-divergent season 1 AU - Buck was assigned to the 122 for his probie year, Tommy remains at the 118.

For context, Buck still helped Athena with the home invasion - Abby is friends with Sal's SO, Gina, so she calls Sal for a fire engine, and Buck was man behind. This occurs when the team goes out after the call.

I'm Where the Spiders Go - Snippet

The bar is busy when Buck finally makes it.  He’s running late.  He’s Jeep has been running a little rough, so he’s called an Uber first, and the drive took longer than expected to arrive.

He spots his team shortly after entering the bar, and smiles when he sees they’ve saved him a spot.  It’s taken him a while to feel like he’s actually part of the team, but he’s starting to feel like they want him around, rather than just tolerating him.

“Probie!  If it isn’t the hero of the hour!” Oscar calls out, waving him over.

Buck ducks his head, and he can feel his cheeks flushing.  He feels a little a little foolish that they’re making such a big deal of it.  He rubs at the back of neck, trying to hid his discomfort at the attention, but he’s still smiling.

He’s smile falls a little when he sees a stranger sitting at the table as well.  He straightens his shoulders and takes the empty seat next to the man.   He doesn’t get the chance to introduce himself before Sal is reaching over and clapping him on the shoulder.

“Tommy, this is our probie, Evan Buckley.” Sal’s voice booms. “He just stopped an armed robbery with the deluge gun today.  Buck, this is Tommy Kinard, from my old station.  He likes us better than his own crew, so he comes out with us to celebrate the 4 off.”

Buck watches Tommy slug Sal in the shoulder and mutters an “asshole” under his breath, but his eyes are smiling.  Buck smiles brightens again as he takes in the banter, comfortable now that Tommy isn’t there to take his place, just another figher fighter out for a drink.

Buck takes in Tommy’s sharp features, and the cleft in his chin.  The man sits with an air of confidence that Buck only wishes he could emulate.  Tommy catches him staring and raises an eyebrow while tilting his head, an unspoken question.

Looking away, Buck distracts himself with finding an empty cup and filling it from the pitcher.  He empties it into his glass for half a pint, and gets up without a word to head to the bar to fill it.

When he returns to the table with the fresh pitcher Sal and Gabriel are at the pool table, while Oscar and Maria are in a heated conversation about the LA Kings.  Buck pays more attention to hockey than some of the other professional sports, but he doesn’t follow enough to contribute, or even want to pay attention to what they’re arguing about.  Those two can make anything a contest.

He sits back down next to Tommy, and tops his glass, eyes on anything but the man sitting next to him. 

“So how did you manage to become a vigilante on your shift?” Tommy asks, lips quirked in a wry grin.  The man’s tone is beyond dry, but Buck catches the teasing in it, and it puts him at ease.

He takes a drink of his beer to help his suddenly dry mouth. He tries to down play it when he starts talking.  “I was man behind, and they needed an engine to help pinpoint the location of a house with an active robbery and a minor inside.  I just drove the engine with the siren on until they could hear it on the call.”

“Hmm,” Tommy starts with another raised eyebrow.  “That doesn’t really explain the deluge gun.”

The sarcasm startles a chuckle out of Buck.  “Um, yeah.  Sergeant Grant got one of the guys at he house, but the other tried to take off on his motorcycle.  I may have used the deluge gun to shot him off the bike.”

Tommy almost snorted his beer, whether at Buck’s statement or the way he delivered it.  “Shit, kid!  Everyone alright?”

Buck grinned at Tommy’s reaction, leaning in a little closer.  “Everyone’s fine.  Bad guys arrested, kid’s home with her parents, and no one was hurt.”

“Except for the man you knocked off the bike,” Tommy pointed out.

Buck shook his head, placing both hands on the table for emphasis. “No!  Even him. Minor scrapes.  They were able to take him straight to booking.”

“And Sergeant Grant called Captain Warran to sing your praises,” Sal interrupted, resting a heavy hand on Buck’s shoulders before taking a seat next to him again.  “She said you were a quick thinker and an asset to have on our team.”

“That’s high praise from Sergeant Grant,” Tommy offered, raising his glass in a mock toast.  “That woman does not pay compliments lightly.”

Buck feels his cheeks flushing again, and he looks down at the table to try to hide it.  “I just did what anyone would have done.”

“I’m not sure just anyone would have thought to man the gun,” Tommy points out, putting a warm hand on Buck’s shoulder.  The heat radiates down his arm and spreads through his chest.  He meets Tommy’s gaze, and is pinned by the sincerity in it.  Buck can’t remember the last time he felt seen, like what he does matters, and someone recognized it.

The intensity of the moment becomes too much for him, and Buck breaks eye contact first, reaching for his glass and downing the rest of it.

“I’ll get the next round,” he says, and pushes away from the table with a screech of his chair.  Oscar and Maria stop arguing and shoot a sharp look his way, but Buck already has his back to the table, making his way to the bar with the empty pitcher.

Israeli Scum SLAUGHTER Women, Unborn babies & children because they can't fight RESISTANCE FIGHERS

Two Palestinian women and an unborn child have been killed by Israeli forces during a raid on Nour Shams refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. Sundus Jamal Shalabi, 23, who was eight months pregnant, and her unborn baby were shot and killed by Israeli gunfire on Sunday morning, the Palestinian health ministry said.

Shalabi's husband was critically injured in the attack. Medical teams were unable to save Shalabi and her unborn child due to Israeli forces blocking access, according to the ministry.

The Palestinian foreign affairs ministry said Shalabi's death was the latest example of the Israel military's targeting of civilians. Later in the day, Rahaf Fuad Abdullah, 21, was also shot by Israeli forces with live ammunition in the camp east of Tulkarm.

She was killed instantly, Wafa news agency reported.

A 14-year-old child and the child's father were wounded by Israeli military gunfire in the camp, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). Live ammunition and sound bombs were also fired towards the Jabal al-Salihin neighbourhood. Elsewhere in the West Bank on Sunday, Israeli forces stormed the village of al-Nassariya, northeast of Nablus.

Israeli security forces continue their weeks-long military campaign across northern areas of the occupied West Bank, including Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas.

Badeline vs nega scott (Celeste vs Scott pilgrim vs the world) "confrontation of the dark ones"

Connections:

-Dark manifestations of the protagonist flaws given physical form (Badeline is the embodiment of the insecure part of Madeline embodying among other things, her fears loneliness etc and nega scott is a representation of scott forgetten past mistakes)

-both would be defeated by the protagonist accepting their own flaws befriending and absorbing them (Badeline was accepted by madeline as they merged to work together and nega scott was absorbed by Scott after being accepted he also literally befriended him in the movie version going to a brunch together)

Animation:

the fight could begin because of scott taking ramona to Celeste mountain meeting Madeline hanging out and later falling asleep the power of the mountain causing nega scott to manifest again trying to attack the sleeping trio only to be blasted off his feet and teleported away by Badeline

From there it's mostly nega scott and Badeline firing energy blast briefly getting into a fist fight

Pretty basic mixing the name of both their themes "confrontating myself" and "the dark one"

Debate:

To set up this fight I'll have to adress something first

logically speaking both fighters are immortal nega scott is just scott mistakes given form meaning that as long as scott exists nega scott would keep existing and Badeline is the same with Madeline logically speaking neither should really be able to die

I'm electing to ignore that since neither would likely be able to return immediately but would be gone long enough for it to be a loss anyway just addressing this now

That aside in terms of the actual fight it's pretty close

Nega scott is slightly stronger and is faster on top of being the more skilled fighter of the two being the dark reflection of scott "the best fighter in the Province" pilgrim and is arguably even more powerful then scott would definitely make him a better figher then Badeline who has no real combat experience outside of her battle with Madeline to draw on

Meanwhile Badeline makes up for that in having powerful magic that nega scott can't counter such as telekinesis flight energy balls lasers duplication teleportation

Overall I'd have to give it to Badeline nega is definitely better stat wise but it means nothing if he can't reach Badeline who mostly fights from a distance

nothing stopping her from just blasting him from a distance till he goes down

slamming him around with telekinesis tossing him high the air and letting the fall kill him or burying him under Tons of rock

Duplicating a bunch of times and doing all of the above

So yeah I'd give to her off her abilities alone

For memorial day, I want to remember my veterans (the veterans I researched). I'm going to put their names and one fact that stuck with me below.

Arthur Clifford Kimber - He named all three of the planes he flew after his best friend Nick.

Hiram Baker Fisher J.r - He died two days before being comissioned.

Fritz Barkan J.r. - He left behind a wife named Elizabeth Reynolds.

William M. Bassett - He was a theater techie, and had a patent for a dolly system.

Howard D. Benson - He was an athlete and part of the student government.

Jack W. Bleasdale - He did theater in highschool. He died in a POW camp, leaving behind a wife named Ellaoise.

Russell V. Braga - The last news his family received was from his friend saying they had been separated during battle in Iwo Jima.

Julian G. Burnette J.r. - He was only 22 when he died.

Samuel L. Carson - He wrote home on the day he died that his orders to come home had finally come through.

Bernard J. Casaurang - He was president of the high school glee club and worked as an actor.

William A. Cashin - He died while in pilot training.

Harvey B. Clarke - He was a cheerleader, star athlete, and popular guy in highschool. He worked as a figher fighter.

Deane P. Clementson - His plane had been damaged on a past mission. Nevertheless he and his crew accepted another mission, which would be his last.

George B. Culiver - He was killed at Anzio. I don't have much information on him, which saddens me.

Norman B. Dahlin - He worked as a medical administrative corps officer before joining the airforce.

J.R. (Frank) Dally - He graduated in 1944. I don't have much information on him either.

Albert D. Davies - He fought in India and Africa. He was killed in a transport plane crash in the US after coming home.

Morian C. Deal - He worked as a butcher with his father at their family butchery.

Phillip S. Doty - He died of severe burns. He suffered for several months before dying.

Henry Howard Estes - He was listed as missing before being declared KIA

Glen D. Faris - He was part of the royal canadian air force. He was only 19 when he died.

John D. Fredericks III - He was a huge part of highschool student government. He was killed by machine gun fire.

George E. Fuchs - He was a star football player in high school. He had a really nice smile.

Thomas D. Gorman - Notice of his death arrived only a few days after both his brother and father were released from the military.

William C. Muldoon - He was executed with his crew when they crashed in enemy territory.

David J. Nolan - He worked as an actor.

Charles A. Norby - His plane was called ‘Shack Rat’. He was murdered in cold blood by a Nazi soldier after he became a German POW.

Frederick H. Palmer - His plane was named the ‘Wing Dinger’.

Harold H. Piggott - He was popular in highschool and had the affectionate nickname 'Piggy'.

Durham W. Porter Jr. - He was a boy scout.

Forrest Wayne Reeves Jr - He was a civilian construction worker on a military base when he was killed.

Robert H. Reeves - When he died, he left behind a 13 month old son.

Alfred J. Siverstein - He majored in art during college. He went by the nickname 'Bud'.

Robert E. Slater - He was on the USS Bonefish, a submarine which still has not been found.

Carl W. Stuke Jr. - He lived in Chile for a while.

Donald J. Stuke - He is buried next to his brother Carl.

Lyle A. Taggart - In high school, He was voted most popular guy in 1939, as well as best dancer (boy).

James F. Taylor - I know nothing about him besides his name. I hope his family remembers him.

Arthur D. Wagner - He was a mathematics major in college.

Andrew G. Webb - He was an actor and a star basketball player in high school.

Howard C. Weller - He was part of his high school choir, and came back to sing with them while he was on military leave.

John Austin Widsteen - His body was not identified and he was not formerly buried until six decades after his death.

Frederick M. Yamamoto - He was so loved and respected. He was smart, dedicated, and died fighting for a country that didn't fight for him.

Albert T. Lavers Jr. - When he died, he left behind a 3 year old daughter named Suzanne.

Marcus Paul Merner - He played guitar.

William Henry Suffern Jr. -  He graduated from Paly in 1947.

Brian Adam - He was an artist.

Billie M. Bedsworth - He lost his life saving his friend. The comments on his memorial page show that he was so loved.

Arthur F. Gleim Jr. - He was part of the sound crew, audio visual club, and audio visual crew in high school.

Roger C. Hallberg - His family is still looking for closure to this day. He was last seen wearing a wrist watch and his wedding ring.

Barry ‘Buck’ Dean Kingman - He was a stand up guy. Everyone I've spoken to about him adored him. He could have done so much if his life wasn't taken during a war he didn't believe him.

Richard Arlan Stone - He was killed when he stayed behind to protect wounded soldiers.

Thomas L. Vendelin - He wanted to be the greatest drummer the world had ever seen.
