woah, day 38, 4/16/25
hey glitchlets
I dmed for the first time today. Was it scuffed yes, did my players have fun yes. Did chaos ensue yes. All in all good time. A party member may not have ended up marrying the queen after rolling high with flirting, then going on multiple dates, to moving in, then marriage. That’s so playing into the plot majorly.
anyways have a good night
#daily journal#just my thoughts#welp that’s my thoughts#relationship#dungeons and dragons#I dmed for thd first time. So much fun#First time dungeon master

Do you ever think about the parallels between wind waker and skyward sword. islands sent up to the sky far far away from the ruined land below. a doomed world flooded, leaving behind only the peaks of mountains as islands in a great sea. A boy going through trial after trial to prove himself as a hero to the gods.
In wind waker, link only goes on his quest to save aryll. He is not a hero chosen by the gods. In skyward sword, he is chosen, but still the only reason he goes on his quest is to save zelda. Theyre both saving the world for selfish reasons.
Link and zelda seeing the surface and link and tetra seeing the world beneath the waces. Both leaving behind the past to bring about a new hyrule.
Skyward sword begins the cycle. In wind waker, you leave it all at the bottom of the ocean. There is no triforce in spirit tracks, no ganon, no master sword.
#posts brought to you by me playing wind waker and skyward sword at the same time.#finished both games recently.#loz#legend of zelda#skyward sword#wind waker#loz ss#loz ww#sksw#the game structure is so similar actually. first dungeons are to prove yourself#worthy. second set of dungeons are for upgrading the master sword.#and then u have to explore the overworld to find the triforce#the tower of the gods and the silent realms.#i havent played phantom hourglass but in spirit tracks the tower of spirits is actually#very similar to the silent realms and from what ive seen ph is very similar....

when I asked my players if they had fun during their first session of my PG-13 Curse of Strahd game, my brand-new-to-TTRPGS-player said that they enjoyed it because they got to "act crazy"
they... hustled a man into paying for their rooms and drinks at the tavern. that's what they thought was acting crazy.
I politely congratulated them on their first session and didn't mention the many horrific crimes just sort of sprinkled throughout CoS RAW.
and then my seasoned player politely did not mention the crimes they were going to commit that session before they realized the other two players are sweet summer children

required reading .
#quite genuinely The Best dungeon genre nov i have ever read. it perfectly combines over used tropes with unique twists in a way thats#sp refreshing...#like. man. wow. wow!#this story Does Not go the wau you think it will go! in a good way!#AND its also a yaoi. and i really enjoy how the romance between the two is written as well....#i just finished part one (the first like 140 chapters) and any tangible bits of romance didnt start until like. ch100#which i enjoy.... because it wouldnt make sense otherwise#its truly like 'story that happens to feature gay men' which is awesomeeeww#i found it because the fiest six (6) chapters of the manhwa were put on bato#and i was like ohhhh this seems fun ^_^ and now like 3 days later i want to explode (positive)#goddddd like its jist so good. even ignoring the entire plot the authors writing is just so amazing... lot everythibg ive ever wanted#was telling my friends this but they write scenes in ways i write scenes#which is to say the way i wish everyone wrote scenes#ahhhhhh its just sososo good....#things barely introduced in ch1 and basically forgotten becoming plot relavent 140 chapters later is always like a hit or miss#in execution#but the way this incorporates the stuff like this is done so well...#like truly this author is like a master in writing and weaving narratives there were so many times where i strongly reacted#to the information that was just revealed because it made me connect the dots to things said a million uears ago that i forgot about#only for the mc to havw the exaxt same reaction#and there were so many times where a like emotionallh hardowing scene woulf happen and i would have the exact same response as the mc#even if i hadnt even read his response yet#man..... man....#its just. so good#yaoi posting

Does anyone have any first time dungeon master advice? And I don’t mean stuff like “lots of improvising” and “go with your players” I mean like actual life hacks like tips for how to make roleplay feel more natural or the best way to keep track of your characters health during battle?
#please and thank you#not saying those are bad advice I just want some more practical tips#dnd#dungens and dragons#dungeon master#first time dm#dnd advice

You're more amazing than file names
You're more amazing than Deific Artorius
#final superboss of tales of berseria#when you beat the postgame dungeon it powers up the final boss and doubles his level and gives him stats to match#and also makes him resistant to all elements and thus immune to every status ailment and stat-lowering effect#my first attempt was a complete and thorough failure#but on my second i unequipped all status ailment artes from me and my party#and also told eleanor to stop killing herself#i was really scared of his 3000 focus and immunity to ailments making it really hard to get souls#but it turns out once you ignore ailments and focus entirely on stun 3000 focus isn't too hard to break through#he also blocks SO MUCH#he recovers from stagger really fast so he blocks ALL THE TIME so comboing him is super frustrating#you can charge up a guard break but even after breaking his guard he'll just immediately block the next attack#solution: use big flashy multi-hit attacks that keep going for like 3 full seconds#the break charge lasts for the entire attack so even when he recovers from stagger and blocks MID ATTACK you just break his guard again lol#and all the while your party members are taking advantage and piling on damage#also rokurou's really good against him#his break soul gives him a free guard break charge for his next attack which really keeps up the pressure#and his weakness of his break soul being a counterattack isn't a weakness because artorius has a bunch of big telegraphed attacks#also he's immune to stagger while attacking. so add that to his growing list of bullshit#but rokurou don't care! he just counters and teleports behind him and hits him with a big long unblockable attack!#and ALSO artorius has 1 weakness: he's human. and rokurou's 3rd break soul is effective against humans#and THAT triggers a weak-point combo which ignores all his resistances!#so combo that break soul into a mystic arte chain and rip him to shreds!#eizen has a mystic arte that hits human so he can do basically the same thing#i (and eleanor) still died quite a few times but managed to cast enough revives to keep it going#somewhere around 25-ish minutes later he was DEAD! HAHA!#finally calling this playthrough complete. got all the important items and mastered all the equipment skills. and killed god. of course#ka asks

Hey dnd community, quick question:
Im pretty new to dnd still and i really wanna try dming, and I kinda have a story in mind? But I'm having trouble trying together all the loose ends and would love a lil help 🙏🙏
I'm thinking about kind of a shorter campaign, maybe even a one-shot if I can condense it enough, but I was kinda thinking about like. An isekai-type adventure, like the heros go to bed one night and wake up in a totally new town with powers the don't fully understand etc etc the whole nine yards here
I'm tossing around the idea of this being some sort of elaborate, large scale dreamscape? Like this fantasy world is just sort of a cover up (for lack of a better term) for something huge going on in the real world. Eventually the party will break out of this simulation and face off against the REAL bbeg and that's where I'm stuck because I can't figure out for the life of me who or what the fuck would be behind this and why, yknow?
At first I was kinda thinking mind flayers or something similar? But for whatever reason that concept almost feels like. Cheap and overused to me personally :( plus I don't have a solid reason why they would have dozens if not hundreds of people (party included) in this simulation/dreamscape.
Humbly, I come to you dnd tumblr, and I ask for your aid. Any feedback or inspiration or ideas are GREATLY appreciated, thank you <3

Introducing my new dnd campaign!!! I will be playing this with a bunch of my friends and it's my first time dming! Honestly, I am quite nervous for it since I do want to tell a good story but I am also extremely excited! I plan on sharing details about the campaign here with regular updates. I will share some of the custom art I've made for my minis and all that sort of jazz!

Me: writes an intro blurb for the dnd campaign I'm going to be running and sends it to my players
Them: respond with a series of excited emojis
Me: they hate it. they think it's badly written and the intro isn't interesting enough. i am the worst dm in history and i haven't even started yet
#just me?#okay#i love anxiety lol#dungeon master woes#< my new tag for freaking out about this#there is 1 (one) person on tumblr who knows me irl and knows someone in the campaign so i'm going to beg you not to share anything I mentio#with them because spoilers and also anxiety#anyway all of them are new players and then one of them has been playing for a Long Time and is a DM#so if I embarrass myself at least only one person will really Know but i'll still die of shame#wish me luck yall lol#dungeons and dragons#dnd campaign#dnd#dnd5e#doesn't help i decided to homebrew first try lol#i had a Story and i wanted to Tell It and now I'm starting to regret it because of the sheer amount of work I've made for myself#but i'm also very excited!#now i just need to balance this with school and not hyperfixate (challenge level: impossible)

A spark called UTOPIA
Ever since I was a wee lad, I have always liked creating stories even if there was no one viewing them. I find creating worlds and stories incredibly satisfying and exciting but I since I have never shown any of my stories to any of my family or friends back then, I hesitate and freeze up when I try to do so now. But then one day, scrolling around YouTube, I saw in my recommended a video called, "Is This The Most Customizable TTRPG Ever Made?" The claim was bold and with curiosity and potential simmering inside me, it was more than enough for me to click and see what it had to offer. And well...I wouldn't be writing this if it didn't intrigue me and push me to action to try and finally create something that I could share with my friends.
Upon viewing the video I was hooked by the potential it had, it gave a simple overview of the mechanics, Talent trees, character customization, what happens in combat or when a player tries something, and it felt quite simple enough for me to understand. Long before I have already thought of trying to host a TTRPG with my friends, I even worked with a few of them to create our own game but that fell through, though I'm still hoping for a revival of that project, for now though we have Utopia. With the simplicity of Utopia, I could use it as my starting grounds for sharing the stories I've always wanted to share, and so after that first video I looked into the channel and was glad to find even more videos about the game. The next few videos spoke of some further details and clarifications of certain aspects of the system, but what REALLY hooked me was the customizability of items and spells.
At the beginning of the video, after the introduction, he dangled us the possibilities of having a spell that could literally affect the ENTIRE WORLD, and a weapon that could bring down a God to its knees....well he told us it was possible but the spell essentially gave everyone in the world a bad tan, and the weapon, whilst living up to its Godkilling potential, was a rock on a stick. It was great. Despite the spell being seemingly underwhelming, the fact that its possible to create (provided you are an incredibly powerful person, as I believe the requirements of skills and materials reaches into the millions) propelled me back into the world of creation. And so soon, my first session and first dungeon mastering, begins
