SUNSHINE AND IPHONOGRAPHY.

Typically, using one's camera at high noon in the summer presents many challenges. The bright sun can make for burned out highlights and harsh shadows, creating a challenging climate for landscape photography. Using a camera phone adds to the challenge.

This is exactly what I did. While I was generally happy with the composition captured at Cascades Conservastion Area, I knew I'd want to revisit the photograph.

The forest of the Cascades Conservation Area surrounds geological rock and bodies of water formed by rapids of the Current River. I wanted to capture this.

And this is what you see here. Much happier.

Go Take A Walk

We pseudo-sedentary creative types sometimes forget how important our physical health is to keeping us in a creative frame of mind. We hunker down behind the tools we use to build our world and bridge the gaps and cracks we find there and use them as either a protective shield or battering ram to get our point across. This short article is a case in point.

As we creative types struggle with our personal demons or exorcise those we recognize or fantasize about in society we can easily fall into disrepair when it comes to our health. Now this can result from a few too many midnight raids on a cold steel repository of questionable sustenance or over indulgence at lavish parties thrown in our honor for what we gift to the world. Sure, I know, we've all been there. Right?

So I say to you go take a walk. Take it alone take it often and take it at a moment of the day that affords you time to tune not only your body but your mind. Some of the best moments of inspiration can bubble to the surface when you get oxygen rich blood pumping through you like it's supposed to.

We have an epidemic in our world of over weight and under fit practicing and potential creatives in our world. Bridging that gap and fighting those demons takes more than fantasy. It takes creating healthy actions and habits to replace the bad ones we so often gravitate towards. Do the world a favor and set your sights on sticking around for awhile. Go take a walk.

Obsessions are intimately hazardous, Even when you think you are channelling your inner manic obsession into the right direction; the road is still rocky and leads to muddy waters. Manic obsessions are when you keep poking yourself with a needle and ink and end up with 30 tattoos that describe every inch of your broken soul and butchered heart, Obsessions are when you keep painting the same things in different forms and textures and yet they seem new and extravagant, Obsessions are when your dreams, nightmares, and conscious mind merge because you cannot different between the realities you live in, read about, or watch, Obsessions are when you create a perfect world but at the end of the day it’s an oasis, Obsessions are when you look in a clean mirror and loathe yourself but a broken mirror makes you smile, Obsessions are when you love a dark sky but loathe the morning light because your inner demons are nocturnal, Obsessions are when Van Gogh painted the Starry Sky from the asylum and yet madness paved way to his mind and soul, Obsessions are when Sylvia Plath wrote beautiful lines in the Bell Jar but ended her head up inside a microwave, Obsessions, they are dangerous, even when you try to control them, they enter your minds through your nerves and nest there. Texture + Tone x Form

I'm putting my education hat back on for the image I've selected to share today. This image was taken of  scene I came across early one morning in my home town. What made me stop and consider it worthy of being captured in pixels was the play of the shadow and light against the texture of the aging facade.

There's nothing exciting, significant or special about this building other than the way the light plays across its surface and the fact that the title I chose for the image can easily be found spelled out within the frame. Let's call this an exercise in seeing beyond seeing and see if you can pick up on the title by letting your eye wander through it.

The more one practices the skill of looking beyond the obvious even the most mundane things and circumstances in life can be filled with wonder and delight. It's one of the skills that can help a person find their Smile.
