Waaaa omg this looks so interesting! As someone who also had a story idea like this when I first started writing: what were your inspirations for the story?
Thank you! I'm so glad that the premise is interesting to so many people!
Now as for your question...hmm, I'd say that the inspiration came from a mix of old childhood writings and being an isekai fan?
Like, when I was 13 or so, I had a few drafts written for a couple fantasy stories. One was about a character that got transported to another world, and the other was about...something I don't remember anymore, but it did have the og versions of The Paragon and The Spymaster.
So of course, I recently looked back at those two and decided: "Why not combine them and make it an IF?"
Not very climactic I know haha, but yeah that's basically what what happened! The rest is what you see now.
Thank you for the ask!

Hiii Beth! I hope you're doing well! ❤️ Anyway, I'm pretty interested in #1, if you don't mind: Briefly describe the way their parents grew up, and how it affected the way they raised them.
I hope you're well too!! I've been hoping for this question so...
1. Briefly describe the way their parents grew up, and how it affected the way they raised them.
Matt is from a middle class family, who basically raised him the way they were raised. Overall it was a good environment, but slightly competitive between him and his brothers and his parents were caring albeit slightly distant.
Eve's mother was raised in a strict Catholic household, and although she moved away, she still has some tendencies towards Catholicism. She did try hard to not pass her hang ups onto Eve though, and she did that successfully. Eve's father is not a part of her life and was never a part of her upbringing.
Alex's parents are both Catholic. Their father moved from Portugal in his early teens with his parents. He was forced to adjust to the UK quickly, which hardened him to those outside of church. He met Alex's mother, who is also Catholic, and they married young and had Alex. They were equally strict as their parents (even as Alex's grandparents mellowed) and as a result it created an environment that Alex struggled in and it forced them to push back massively.
Jordan's father is a first generation immigrant who came over from Jamaica to join his father and older brother who were already living in the UK. When he was there he met Jordan's mother, who is a second generation immigrant to parents who came over in as a part of the Windrush. Their family has always enjoyed being active in their community and Jordan was raised as a part of that too. It takes a village to raise a child and Jordan and their siblings were the same.
Char's parents are both working class. His father is from a farming family and his mother is from a family of cleaners and hospital porters. She chose to become a nursery nurse and she's exceptionally compassionate. Because of this, Char couldn't have asked for a better mother. She learnt sign language along with them, and dragged Char's father into it as well. She and Char still use BSL for most of their conversations.
Bo-yeon's parents grew up in a tight knit extended family and that continued into the way xe was raised. Xe loved it and would want to raise children to know xir family as well, even if xe was settled in the UK instead of in South Korea.

Hiii Shai! Can you do 7, 16, and 17? 😊
Prompt list
Thank you!!
7) when asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write?
Depends on the people I face. I'm mostly embarrassed to tell anyone because I'm not sure how they'd react, especially when it comes to my family lmao. But like I said on discord, when I do get to meet people who are a lot more open minded and are supportive, it immediately becomes the sole thing I wanna talk about. I'm not too used to compliments, though, so that makes me kinda awkward again.
16) are there any characters who haunt you?
Most of my characters in Hollowed Minds haunt me in some way except maybe for a select few. Especially the mayor. I built his character in such a specific way that now even I get goosebumps whenever I think how he'll interact with the MC from their first meeting to their very last. Too despicable that Bale would probably look like a nice guy next to him. I won't give too many specifics right now but, he really is the worst among all these people :)))
Some of the others that come to mind right now are the marshal (Book 2 will be so wild), Roy (who's no. 1 in Alonzo's imaginary kill list), this character I cannot name yet who's also one of Morpheus's top subordinates, and a very influential villain that even Morpheus is being careful around.
17) if you could give your fledgling author self any advice, what would it be?
Just write and enjoy, and there's no need to be ashamed of who you are :)) And try to connect with other authors more dkajsjklasj

Hi! I just finished reading SPS IH—it was quite a fun read! Not sure if this was reported yet, but I encountered this unclickable link (and the father typo): [[Knock on the door behind which Cenisa locked herself. If you are going to wait, you’d father have a companion.|action][$action = 1][[number NaN] -=5]] Anyway, I'm dropping a couple of questions too, if you don't mind: What were your inspirations for SPS IH, and do any of the assigned numbers have significance? Thanks! 😊
Hi!!!
Glad your enjoyed your time on board ;)
This had indeed not yet been reported, but has now been fixed. Thank you!
I am a huge sci-fi nerd and wanted to do something completely different to CRWL for a bit. But mainly it came to me while looking up lists of twists :P
For the numbers... well, there is some information in one of the ending, if you already played through that one ;) And if I do end up continuing, there will be a better explanation. Right now, it's just the order of then the crew member wakes up. You were #8019 on the line.

Day 4 of the Game Jam Winners Months Featured Author Interviews, starting with Franzynite!
Franzinyte, author of In Auctorem Credimus
Feeling purposeless and unfulfilled after your story has ended, you stumble upon an organization dealing with the same problem as you: the Custodians of Authorial Narrative Foundation (CANon). With nothing else to do but hope for your story’s sequel or (hopefully not horrible) movie adaptation to come, the main character of your story (and canonical love interest) invites you to join the foundation and work as a biblio-anthropologist, traveling through various story worlds without the need to stay in-character.
So when your dream finally came true a few years later and people in your neighborhood start forgetting about you, you immediately grab your plot armor and prepare to defeat the villains once again. You’ve done it before, and you’ll make sure they’ll never do it again. At least, that’s how sequels are supposed to go, right?
But when the main character and the villains turn out to be missing, you decide to take on the mantle of ‘main character’, join the CANon Timeline Anomaly Removal Department Intervention Squad (TARDIS), and write the sequel to your own story yourself.

[INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT UNDER THE CUT!]
Q1 . Tell us about the story you made for the Jam!
In Auctorem Credimus (Latin for “In the Author We Trust”) is a metafictional sci-fantasy adventure story where you play as the main character's love interest, who takes over the MC's role after the story has ended.
You work as a biblio-anthropologist for the Custodians of Authorial Narrative Foundation (CANon), and join the Timeline Anomaly Removal Department Intervention Squad (TARDIS). In the story, you'll explore story worlds of different genres, as you try to capture anomalous characters responsible for creating plot holes. It's a light-hearted story as a whole, but it also explores, deconstructs, and reconstructs the tropes from the perspective of the characters themselves. Breaking the fourth wall is an integral part of the story's worldbuilding, not just a quirk of the narrator.
I made IAC as a spin-off/sidequel for my main project, "Dear Diary, We Created a Plot Hole!" (DDWCaPH!), both to try out Twine and to write in a different POV than I'm used to. It spoils the first half of the story, but I think the resulting dramatic irony makes it more fun to read and introduces a different form of interactivity.
While it ends in a cliffhanger, I designed IAC as if it was a full-length story, complete with romance options as well as plenty of customization options for the MC. It's something I definitely want to expand on in the future.
Q2. What was the biggest challenge in creating a game in such a short time span? How did you manage it?
Learning a new coding language! Although I already have experience with coding and interactive fiction, Twine isn't very intuitive to learn, especially on the formatting side. I had to copy and paste most of the coding syntax, as I found typing them manually very clumsy and prone to errors.
The hardest part in particular was the UI customization. I wanted to make the UI slightly different for each chapter to fit the current setting, but unfortunately I didn't have enough time to play around with the template.
Q3. What was your inspiration for your entry?
I've always wanted to write a short story as a spin-off for DDWCaPH!, and with the jam's theme being 'cliffhanger', I took it as a sign to finally write it.
It'd take me a long time to list all of my inspirations—both stories are filled with references to classic literature, pop culture, and even my Filipino heritage influenced part of the worldbuilding.
But I'd say the main inspiration for both stories as a whole, is the game "Bookworm Adventures". In the game, you have to spell words to defeat monsters from various literature (which also inspired The Nautilus's word-powered tractor beam). The final boss of the series is where I got the idea of plot holes being portals to other stories. I just loved the idea of characters going on adventures to different story worlds. You know how writers tend to have a million story ideas? This was my solution to the problem.
As for CANon, it was inspired by the SCP Foundation—the idea of a secret organization hidden in plain sight is always a very fun concept. They may be the good guys, but they're also hiding an entire graveyard in the proverbial closet.
Q4. Is this your first time working on a game like this? What do you like (or not like) about working in this format?
This is my second IF project, but this is my first time joining a game jam.
As for what I like and not like, it's the same thing: the deadline. It caused me a lot of stress and other problems, but I can't deny that this has been the most productive and the most excited I've ever been writing-wise, that I continued writing even while I was sick. It also prompted me into learning something new, which is also a plus.
Q5. What is your favorite part about your entry? What have you enjoyed most doing during the Jam?
My favorite part both story-wise and development-wise, is the climactic battle in the penultimate chapter. It's one of the first scenes I planned, and I’m honestly surprised by how easily everything clicked together, and that I managed to make the battle both fun and not one-sided. It was fun discovering my characters' powers and abilities as I went along.
Due to the nature of the jam, I didn't want to have complex branching paths for the battle. During this time, I was also watching a video about "invisible" choices in video games by making it a non-obvious part of the gameplay, which led me to think of adding another layer of interactivity throughout the story via the cycling links.
Initially it's there mostly for customization, then later you realize you can change minor details in the background, and near the end, you gain the ability to have limited control of other characters and even the narrative itself. It's fun to play with the possibilities—you never know if something simple as changing someone else's eye color will have a butterfly effect later on. But also, just because you can change it, doesn't mean you shouldn't.
Special mention also goes to the “wear my PJs” choice during the final battle. I really wanted to make it an achievement!
As for what I've enjoyed the most, it would be the brainstorming phase at the beginning. I had these character ideas sitting in my notes for years now, and suddenly they all sprung to life in just a day. It's funny too, considering the backstories the characters ended up having are similar to their backstories in real life: abandoned and forgotten characters who decided to go on their own adventures without their author.
I also had a lot of fun finding the appropriate background music for each scene.
Q6. What is your advice for sprint projects like this one?
I'm guessing my fellow jammers would say something about time management, but since I'm horrible with that, as a bit of a perfectionist, I'll say:
Don't be afraid to cut down. "Kill your darlings" as the writers say, but maybe just injure them in this case so you can still incorporate those ideas later down the line.
Focus on the essentials first. Scope creep is a real thing, and it's easy to keep on adding new features, even if it seems doable. I had to cut down a lot of choices and features to make the work manageable, and even then I barely managed to finish in time.
Q7. Do you have any other works you’d like to promote?
I've already linked to Dear Diary, We Created a Plot Hole! (Demo, Blog) at the end of IAC, but here's the summary again for those who are interested:
The day after you and your twin sibling rewrote your mother’s unfinished bedtime story, you quickly find out why she never finished it. You have unleashed a plot hole—a portal to different story worlds—and now the villains from the stories you’ve written have become real. They’re here to crash your school fieldtrip, and they’re here to finish your mother’s story for good.
Grab your plot armor and join your twin and friends in a meta-fictional adventure! Explore different story worlds—from fantasy and sci-fi, to mythology and mystery. Will you discover the truth behind your mother’s story? Or will villains, plot twists, and character development prevent you from getting your happily ever after?
DDWCaPH! is written as a love letter to all the kids-at-heart out there, who’d like to revisit their childhood and reimagine it as one big fantasy adventure. If you liked reading IAC, then you will also love DDWCaPH! It's much more character-driven, and explores the same themes in even more detail. I'm hoping to turn it into a visual novel in the future!

Lily of the Valley. This is the poison of giving too much. You feel yourself emptying out, dizzying, discoloring-- until you fear you will fade entirely and wither away. You have always had to give. You never had a choice before. They pluck your flowers for their beauty, they trample your leaves carelessly, they pull out your roots by the fistful and berate you for daring to grow. And now that you have a grove to spread out in, your rhizomes tangle and curl in on themselves. When cruelty is all you've ever known, thriving seems impossible. But the answer is not to make yourself small and offer every lovely thing you are to the world in the hopes it will have mercy on you. The answer is to let yourself dare to thrive for thriving's sake, to grow in the wild ways you wish to-- and to do that for yourself for once.

Belladonna. This is the poison of falling in love. You taste it and your heart beats fast. Your eyes dilate, you fall into deep delirium. You may be a bit dramatic and impulsive, and it gets you into trouble sometimes, but you just can't help yourself. It's in your blood. You love because it is the truest beauty you've found in this harsh world. Even when it's hurt you before, when it's poisoned you, you still find a way. They may call you naive for still believing in it, or vain for making yourself and your surroundings so meticulously lovely. But to love like this is brave and noble, and I hope you find the beauty you seek. Chances are, it's within and all around you already, if you know where to look.

dear diary, i hope this isn’t formatted weirdly since i’m sending it with my phone. i’m sorry if it is. anyways i loved the new fighting scene with the twins. esp since you could now pick your wing and it felt like it had all flown better. and the new targets for it. it’s gonna be hard getting 2000 warm points for my star twin mc but we’ll see (they can be nice… sometimes)
i also like the NP choices. they’re very silly most ot the time and my star twin had a hard time choosing whether tita steph would get a fly in her mouth or if they should be mature and calm her down (they chose the fly)
but i will admit that the way i played it my star twin didn’t use their NP much lmao. so when the saving rosie scene came up it was alllllll gone (which makes sense mc is retconning a entire event after all) i also noticed the NP requirement would raise depending on how much you had since when i reloaded with more NP, how much i needed became higher…. you’re mean franzinyte /j… plus the 69/420 joke, i laughed.
my star twin also picked the draconic ancestry and the twins replying yes to if they had every power was so true. it wouldn’t be cool otherwise. my star twin begs wayne draws them cool but they allowed him to go wild with it…
gonna have to play as my heart twin soon but my star twin had a lot of fun this update!!! i enjoyed it and it’s clear you worked really hard on it. even if it was mostly the older chapters being updated, i always find myself picking a newer choice then i did previously since it usually fits my twin even more than it did previously.
ps. weird question and off topic but when we share a playthrough code like obviously you see the stats but do you see it like the readers see it on the screen? like what we named the twins and stuff? i’m curious.
Hehe, don't worry, it's fine! I love getting long asks anyway. 😊
I'm glad you like the new fighting scene! That took me a while to plan and write. As for the sidequests, don't worry about it too much for now. It's very likely that I'll adjust the point requirements, and you'll have six volumes to finish the sidequest anyway.
Oh, and I'm glad you like the NP choices! I'm not sure how people would like them for the most part, but it's fairly good so far. And yes, the NP requirement for the bus choice always changes depending on the amount you have. That doesn't mean you can just spend all your NP before that choice anyway—the amount you saved will affect other things in the future.
And yup, the Draconic Ancestry seems really popular. I had fun writing the new scenes for each ancestry/heritage, so you can check out a different one with your other playthroughs too!
As for the playthrough code... no, I can't see what you named your twins or anything you typed, so don't worry. 😛 It just contains a bunch of stats, traits, and variables for me to track what's in the choices summary. For example, the very first line always contains your 4 attributes, plus the percentage of all your personality stats.
But it's mostly gibberish to me. I just have an excel sheet that tallies the code for me. That's how I get all the percentage for the choices summary.
Thanks for sending this lovely ask!
