"I'd love to!" she beamed, tilting her head slightly toward the pups before walking over with him. Kneeling down slightly to look at a few of them, she noticed one heading towards her legs. "Looks like this one is a bit bolder than the others."'

He nodded and pointed to her, she did understand and knew his dog. "Exactly," he said with a chuckle. Scooter was a big old mushy baby but he sometimes didn't know his own size. "Yeah, maybe one with some sass even," he said putting his hands on his hips and wiggled it a bit. Following to where she was looking, he focused his attention on a few of the pups, "couldn't hurt. Wanna join me?"

PERSONALITY

-He is arrogant and stubborn, and the first time he met Jackson and Noah, it played against him and caused problems with most of them. But when he left that on the side, he's really responsible, intelligent and, as well as Luke, analytic.

-During the conjoined missions he stays a bit away from the other team, usually because he doesn't consider them an intelectual challenge. Francis stays near him, though, the cartographer is the one who smack some sense into him.

-Elliot usually overthinks almost everything, trying to understand all the variables, but ends up stressing himself. Maybe that's why people compare him with a surly cat when he's stressed.

BIOGRAPHY

Born in Fort Worth, Texas. His family are mainly veterinarians, on the other hand a cousin is an economist and the other one is a photographer. As a kid, he grew up surrounded by animals and ended up loving almost any kind of animals, to his parents delight.

Elliot thought of being a veterinarian as well, but during his school life he discovered that he is amazing with the math and the physics. For many years he investigated about some branches of engineering, and found about the combat engineers, which called his attention. He talked with his parents, who were worried about him, but asked to take a year or two to think about it.

A year and half later, he enlisted into the Army and engineers school, and he studied until he almost fainted as he was on basic training. As he finished his training and title as engineer, it was known he was the best on his class, which helped him at the moment to be accepted on the special forces. From then on, he became arrogant, mostly because all of his superiors were amazed with him and praised his abilities insted of his co-workers'.

During his deployments, he perfected his tecnique and his speed on the field, which only boosted his ego. When he was on a deployment on a mountain range, he met Luke as a Sergeant, who at first was also reading his file in awe, but they lost contact after two missions more. And when the rumors about the new team were flying around, he knew they would look for him, considering the pattern.

And he was right, but he got slightly offended that the Captain sended the Sergeant and the Corporal instead of come herself. But when the reunion started, he felt in danger for a second, the Corporal was ready to beat the shit out of him and the Sergeant looked at him with something near to hate. Soon he went to Black Tomb and the day the Captain arrived again, he shivered and surprised to see how Michaelis was now the Lieutenant of the team.

And Luke was dissapointed...

Elliot spoke with Alicia and felt so little, like never before, and also he walked outside that office feeling regret for his own comments. Soon Luke walk to him, this time without a trace of the awe of before, just telling him one think with a harsh voice. Nowadays, he thanks that he said that during his first time there, but at the moment it affected him.

"Listen, the time has passed and I noticed something. You aren't as special as you think, everyone here are basically geniuses on their fields and if you continue thinking that you're some itty-bitty shining star...I'll be the one to bring you back to earth and throw you out of here" Luke growled to him that day "bring your fucking act together, Stevens, get down of your cloud"

SKILLS

-He is specialized on detecting many tipes of land mines, and even some acuatic mines too, to leave it for Noah. Also he prepares obstacles for the enemies squads and clears the paths for the other squads that come after the main one.

-Main and static part of the infantry squad, and he goes better during frontal attack missions, mostly if they have time to prepare traps.

COMBAT

His combat style is defensive, but will take a turn to the offensive if it's needed. His first choice weapon is also a Bowie knife. Elliot will never admit it, but he refuses to learn another kind of combat, not out of arrogance, but because he isn't sure he'll be at a good level in time for the missions.

TRIVIA

-His main hobby is solve puzzles, any kind of puzzle he can get, he'll try to solve it. Inside his room has a collection and everyone always gift him a new one on his birthday.

-Most part of the time he's inside the hangars, so he interacts more with Luke and Edward, also with Francis because the younger one is the one who keep him down to earth.

-He also doesn't have a car, and everyone prays for him to stay like that. Elliot...likes a bit to much Gran Turismo, and it could be great if only he knew how to drive as a sane person. Also Elijah lent him his Camaro once and he almost crashed it down...since then he's banned from using any civilian car out the base, except on special ocations.

-More than once, Alicia has seen him let some stray cats inside the base, but she never said anything. Mostly because she also got attached to them and is thinking to adopt one (and call it gun powder)

-His callsign speaks for itself, and it wasn't something that his peers gave him to joke or in a good mood. On the contrary, it was a way to almost insult him because of his attitude. But Elliot took it anyway because it fits him.

-He doesn't have any favorite food, and is really picky to eat. But when he enlisted, he forced himself to eat all the MRE's out in the field and the lunches when they're on the base. He eats everything, but doesn't enjoys it, maybe only Alexander's biscuits.

dylan  grew  up  in  australia ,  with  his  mother  grace  and  his  father  rowland  isaac .  most  of  their  life  revolved  around  rowland's  job  –  a  military  man .  they  moved  around  often  when  dylan  was  young .  his  father  was  the  person  he  admired  most  and  he  planned  to  follow  in  his  footsteps .  the  signs  of  the  horrors  of  war  were  there ,  but  a  young  impressionable  mind  convinced  itself  that  it  was  to  be  expected  and  that  it  was  a  badge  of  honour .  when  his  little  sister  was  born ,  things  settled  a  bit  more .  they  stopped  moving  as  often ,  allowing  dylan  to  make  friends  while  the  family  was  slowly  starting  to  crumble .  rowland  was  struggling  more  and  more  with  what  he  had  seen  in  active  duty ,  often  having  periods  where  he  did  not  understand  where  he  was  or  who  was  around  him .  more  often ,  grace  would  leave  the  house  for  the  night  and  leave  dylan  and  gwyn  alone  with  rowland .  although  dylan  always  empathised  with  his  father  for  what  he  had  gone  through ,  his  post  traumatic  stress  was  escalating  into  more  than  just  night  terrors .  the  violent  outbursts  became  a  regular  occurrence  and  dylan  often  felt  responsible  for  ensuring  the  safety  of  his  little  sister  and  himself .

a  lot  changed  after  that .  the  case  was  dropped  and  him ,  gwyn  –  now  florence  –  and  grace  moved  to  the  us .  he  continued  his  journalism  career ,  actively  pursuing  a  path  towards  war  correspondence .  he  had  seen  how  much  war  impacted  those  around  him ,  and  studying  politics  and  international  relations ,  he  knew  that  he  needed  to  report  on  it .  not  long  after  the  move ,  he  was  off  again ,  running  around  active  warzones  and  photographing  and  reporting  on  them  for  cnn . 

late  march  2023 ,  dylan  did  not  make  his  scheduled  call .  it  took  48  more  hours  before  he  was  reported  as  missing .  the  envoy  he  had  been  travelling  in  was  stopped  for  what  was  initially  thought  to  be  a  routine  check .  instead ,  he  had  found  the  barrel  of  a  gun  pressed  to  the  back  of  his  head  and  he  was  escorted  away  by  a  terror  organisation .  he  was  not  alone .  two  fellow  correspondents ,  one  from  the  bb c,  one  independent  reporter  from  germany ,  were  also  captured .  the  first  few  months ,  they  were  used  as  a  pawn  in  negotiations  with  the  reporters'  respective  home  countries  and  countries  of  employment .  he  was  kept  in  relatively  comfortable  conditions .  his  captors  demanded  supplies ,  then  money ,  then  weapons .  the  list  never  ended  and  demands  became  too  outrageous .  by  the  time  august  rolled  around ,  it  had  been  claimed  that  all  three  of  them  had  been  assassinated .  the  governments  were  only  able  to  confirm  the  deaths  of  the  english  and  german  reporter  due  to  footage  appearing  on  the  dark  web .  in  reality ,  they  kept  him  around  and  alive  just  for  the  fun  of  torturing  him .

early  october ,  months  after  the  outcries  for  dylan's  release  had  died  down  and  the  news  had  moved  on ,  though  contact  had  remained  between  the  australian  government ,  united  states  government  and  the  terrorists  under  the  radar ,  the  home  he'd  been  kept  in  was  raided  and  he  was  released .  on  his  way  out ,  looking  rather  worse  for  wear ,  one  of  his  colleagues  from  the  cnn  captured  a  photo  of  him .  it  went  viral ,  not  because  he  had  been  presumed  dead ,  but  because  despite  his  injuries ,  despite  his  worsened  physical  and  mental  state ,  he  looked  attractive  in  the  candid  photo  and  the  internet  went  wild . 

since  his  reappearance ,  he  has  been  involved  in  talk  shows ,  podcasts &  radio  shows .  he  has  yet  to  see  a  therapist ,  despite  the  horrors  he  now  continues  to  relive  nightly .

Aisha had been near the bar, ordering a green beer, purely out of curiosity, and because she had a fear of missing out. It seemed like one of the highlights of the night she had to try. As she glanced from the bartender to the person who approached the bar, she gave a bright smile. "Why, hello stranger," she smiled, waving him over to where she stood. "Want to have a drink with me? Figured I'd get into the theme of the night and order a green beer if you want one as well."

"Exactly! And it's not quite unheard of. But I'd tell you, I would never complain if we had one. Singing Abba is a great stress reliever, it's science." She rambled on, then feigned a gasp at his comment about Mariah. "Not bad. Are you trying to offend me? And by definition, the Queen of Christmas?" she gave a dramatized shake of her head, as if she were questioning his life choices, then giggled softly. She was known to dramatize, especially when it came to things she was passionate about, and music had been one of those things. She gave a slight grin. "See, you won't be so bad at it after all!" she teased, looking over in his direction. "With both of us being so confident, I'm sure we'll win at karaoke," taking a sip of her drink, she added. "Not that it's a competition, obviously." though, in her head, she'd be the clear winner.

Shrugging, he grinned. He loved how they were close, and he wouldn't change a thing. Having two best friends that were so different meant JD would never get bored, lonely, or never have anyone to talk to. And that's the way he liked it. "Oh man, imagine if you guys get one. That'd be insane, I've never heard of a club having karaoke but there's always a first time for everything right?" He said and wiggled his eyebrows a bit before taking a sip of his drink. "Yeah, she's not bad," he teased, Mariah wasn't his cup of tea but he agreed that no one could match her energy or voice. Shrugging, he didn't really know what song they'd sing, but as long as Aisha took the reigns and made sure there was a voice deep enough for him to sing along with, he was fine. "Sure, that could work," he nodded and then at her mention of confidence, he sat up straighter on the bar stool. "at least I have confidence. Singing ability? No. Confidence, yes."

Travelling Through History

Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home

We started our seventh day at the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument. After becoming the NAACP field secretary in 1955, Medgar and Myrlie moved into this home in Jackson, MS. They lived here with their three children and the home hosted many civil rights leaders until his assassination at this location in 1963.

Some interesting notes about the home itself is that the Evers built this house knowing the kind of work they would be doing. You can note from the photo that there is no front door in order to have more covered entrances. The refrigerator in the kitchen was placed just beside the back door so it could be used as a blockade. Additionally, the children's mattresses were on the floor so if any projectiles came through the window, they could crawl to the bathtub to safety.

Our next stop was the Vicksburg National Military Park. We ended up speedrunning this one a bit as poor Archie was extremely allergic to the grass here. 😅

We did get to check out the Illinois Memorial, which is one of the more prominent and recognizable memorials in the park. Additionally, we got to see one of the Civil War ironclad boats up close—I mentioned these boats in earlier posts as they were used in several pivotal battles by the Union.

Poverty Point World Heritage Site, a large mound at Poverty Point

We took a slight detour out of Mississippi and into Louisiana to check out the Poverty Point National Monument, which is also a designated World Heritage Site.

Despite it's name, Poverty Point was a very sophisticated and thriving city some 3,000 years ago. The primary mound, pictured above, is over 72 ft. tall and about the same length across. Artifacts were recovered from this site that suggests the people here traded with others all up and down the Mississippi riverway, creating a huge trade network.

From Poverty Point, we drove a bit through Arkansas and then ended our day back in Mississippi. Only two days left of this trip!

You absolutely got this.” She patted his shoulder and left him up front making sure he was in good hands. Almost thirty minutes later, she returned and refilled the display case. She boxed a few orders and gave some cake pops to some kids. Time had moved and before she knew, she instructed her team to start the cleaning checklist. She handed a tip over to the delivery driver that dropped off a big bag of rossi’s. Flipping the sign, she watched as the last few of her employees clocked out and headed home. Slipping off her apron and taking JD’s, she tossed them in the hamper for tomorrow’s problem. Naomi had boxed up some extra cookies for him and handed him the box while she took the still hot bag of take out she had stored in the oven. “Thank you for your help.
