find chilchucks interaction w zon kinda interesting. Like that he tried to quietly reason w marcille abt why the orcs feel the way they do and zon tells him to shut up. Like probs partially bc he comes of as a kid to other races despite being a person thats managed to wrestle a robust community out of some of the most exploited ppl on the island. But also hes an adventurer right… like hes aligned himself w the group of ppl who routinely kills orcs even if he personally disagrees and can even empathize w them. Like ofc zon would tell him to shut the hell up. Its an interesting dynamic… chilchucks union is adventurer lockpicks. Like even if none of them directly fight, their union is embedded in the apparatus that routinely kills orcs. Much to think about….

Also he has a real interesting dynamic w laios and marcille where he kinda tries to point em to stuff like izutsumi probs came from a rough background like as a person talking to ppl whove experienced much more privilege than him and who he knows is kinda oblivious to it. But its also interesting that when he tries to speak on behalf of others hes sometimes wrong —izutsumi got manners and proprietary beaten into her. When she says no one raised her I dont think shes wrong. But I think its part of it is when u try to reach out to others u often will be wrong abt stuff n I do think dungeon meshi is about being able to connect n sit at the same table regardless (which i think is naive but u know! Fair enuff)

Edit: but incredibly important nuance chilchuck formed that union to protect other half foots from adventurers. Thats the interesting tension going on

also i think this has been figured out at this point but the whole "i miss queerbaiting" convo is like... the part of queerbaiting that ruled was because the show was usually putting forward two dudes, those two dudes got to have character arcs and motivations and writing behind both of them. they could both be interesting individually. because neither of them were shunted into 'disposable romantic interest' for each other.

but if a gay couple on tv is now supposed to be there, writers can fall for the m/f trap of 'only one of these characters needs to be fleshed out, the other is just here to explicitly be the love interest and maybe die later' except now they can both be dudes. it's not that queerbaiting was inherently better it's that unfortunately people have always been bad at understanding what makes fictional romance compelling, which is 'who the fuck are these people in the first place and why should i care'

A trick of reality

This is a little "What if" of Alex, if you want to know I will explain this here

Context:

If you pay attention to the details, the ribbon has a rock green/red, that's Calem (OC that I may present better in another post) Calem and his anomaly make the power of creating things based on existing materials. Weapons, body modifications, and most importantly, reality manipulation, Alex and Calem as a duo in a fight, Alex as a tank and Calem as a support make a great combo

The "what if":

Alex has Calem in her hands, she finally learned how to take full advantage of his skills, and she will not let that pass. Calem is not able to materialize if someone else uses the stone, so hes trapped there while Alex is using it perpetually. That's how she ended up transforming herself into a reality bender.
