Pearl’s Thursday stream (2/27) where Doc calls her over to admire his newest contraption was really cute. How he compliments her and lays it on a little thick: “up and coming in the redstone world” as all the other redstoners are equally proud. Walking through how the machine works, knowing full well one of the ways Pearl learns is remembering an offhand mention of a mechanic/device. Especially since Doc is on the high end of complicated redstoning (game breaking / glitch tech) so introducing Pearl both to his ideas and to his audience is really awesome. How fun for them both!

But how did you choose who would be androids and who wouldn't?

for me when it comes to AU's based on something it's always hard to choose. So I'm just curious haha

OOH no this is a really good question honestly! I kind of just looked at majors 'pairs' (usually, but not always, based around ships or popular duos) of hermits (specifically from s8, since that's when the au started) and picked the one that i personally thought would be more fun to undergo a characterization process where part of that journey would be coming into one's emotions and stuff... like, for example, for ethubs it seemed more fun to have etho break out of his programming and grow into his awkward silly stoic self, and it seemed more fun to have bdubs be the stubborn human of the two--it just seemed like the most enjoyable way to engage with their dynamic for the au. I kind of just followed that line of thinking for all of the pairs, if that makes sense!

In hindsight, I did realize that looking at hermitcraft in groups of two or three and then picking one from each grouping to be an android for the au made it so that basically half of the server would be androids, meaning over the course of two seasons the cast of hermitcraft essentially doubled, and I'm not sure if I would change things were I to start over, but it certainly makes things interesting in a way that I didn't really anticipate!

I've also gotten a couple of asks over the years wondering if me choosing all of the red stone-adjacent hermits to be androids was on purpose, and honestly, no! It's just kind of a weird coincidence that it happened that way. I kinda just went with vibes and did what i thought would be most fun, most fitting, or most interesting for any plot or dynamic ideas I wanted to run with :]

A favorite Tangoism of mine is when he comes across some Ridiculous Doc Nonsense (the hourglass, the flood, etc) while streaming and just rolls his eyes, calls it “compensating” and moves on without further comment

Ough. This started as a couple of warmups and I ended up falling in love with tiny drawings on big canvas. Also for mini context, the Tanguish stretching is like if you could balance fully on the tip of ur toes with no bending whatsoever. So he’s. Not as tall as Helsknight. Also it was inspired by my first time picking up a cat yesterday and she was pure fluid, like her toes did not leave the floor it was insane.

yippie!!! theorycrafting on who i think mapicc meant when he said there was one person he could trust ^-^ using a tierlist to simplify it in 5 main categories & 3 subcategories

the five main categories :

trust AND has hearts (empty)

is exactly what it says on the tin. they're people who i think mapicc would trust not to betray him by going behind his back and who have enough hearts to be useful in pvp against people like flame, mane, or clown. and as u can see,,, this category is empty LOL idt theres anyone he trusts outside of his teammates who has who has the hearts not to quickdrop @_@

no trust but has hearts (rek, hannah, pentar, ecorridor, squiddo, and subz)

is people who have the hearts to theoretically keep up w the 20 heart beasts, but are people mapicc doesnt trust not to use or betray him to varying degrees. (for example, i would not put his distrust in squiddo into the same category as his distrust in team pe OR his lack of trust w hannah)

trust but has no hearts (ro, bacon, and planet)

is people i think mapicc would be confident wouldnt betray him, BUT they lack the hearts (...and pvp skill...) to go into fights w him. like realistically, if he pulled up into a fight w them they'd just be feeding hearts nd loot to players who are already 20 heart beasts LMFAO

no trust AND no hearts (4c, woogie, jumper, leo, spep, terrain, wemmbu, and poafa)

is people he wouldn't trust to not betray him AND who would be deadweight in a fight because theyre too low on hearts to do anything but die.

not even considered (ash, cube, mid, jaron, redd, and vortex)

is people who i just . dont think would ever cross his mind to consider allying w im ngl LMFAO like im sorry but they just dont login— and even if they did, he probably wouldnt trust them.

the three subcategories :

teammates (minute, jepexx, spoke, chief, and zam)

mapicc's teammates!! people he'd trust w both his life AND the mace if they played the server (or had the hearts to go into a fight ToT)

flamefrags (flame)

flame is in his own category between teammate and enemies because his relationship w mapicc is complicated. theyve been...allies? teammates? for 3 ish months now and have surprisingly remained loyal to one another despite having no real reason Not to betray. flame is teamed w mane and has made it clear how deeply loyal he is to him, but today he wasnt seen directly helping mane & clown hunt mapey, and he even advised mapicc not to fight clown after asking if they were still cool. so like. its very on the fence, whether they still have trust or not LOL

enemies (clown, mane, sb, pangi, and derap)

people who confirmed want to kill mapicc OR who mapicc himself wants to kill. clown and mane are actively hunting him down and sb is threatening to decimate mawn so, yeah LMFAO. also mapicc made it clear today that although hes civil w derap, he still considers him an enemy.

so!!!! with all of those properly explained— that begs the question, who do i think mapicc WILL go to so he isn't completely alone? and i actually do have someone in mind. BUT!!!! its one person who like kinda comes in a package deal.......

and that person is................

bacon !!! YIPPIE !!!!!!! the reason i think that its bacon of all people that he'll fall back on is bc he has the ex teammate bias for him, bacon actually Plays The Server, he has no reason to betray mapicc, and working w bacon comes working w hannah. working w bacon and hannah makes sense bc although he doesnt have trust in hannah YET, her loyalty to bacon means she is Much less likely to betray mapicc for any reason. hannah herself is high enough on hearts and good enough at pvp to make any uneven fights against mane and clown more survivable at the very least for her and mapicc.

the only other real options mapicc has i think would be like, team pe who i think is wayyyyy too closesly allied w the bfb nd clown for mapicc to trust. derap, who mapicc does Nawt respect or fw enough to trust him not to betray or just Die in fights bc hes lowk a 20 heart qd. and ro, who like, as much as he may trust her she just doesnt play the server nd shes on like 4? 5? hearts so she would just die if he involved her in this— and although she Would walk into a fight knowing she's prob gonna die, it isnt all that helpful if she just dies and dies and dies for him.
