Before Jason makes his debut as Red Hood, he goes apartment hunting.

And the thing about Gotham is, all of the apartments that would make for good safe houses, are safe houses. The Bat’s safe houses. If Jason wants to set up shop, he’s got to get creative. This means being willing to look the other way about some things. Namely, living with other people.

Jason gets a roommate.

Sure, he’d found a couple of spots that fit some of the criteria he used for making safe houses, but not all apartments were equal. And having a semi-functioning civilian cover was useful. Sometimes.

All this to say that Jason responded to a craigslist post of some guy looking for a roommate. The post was written well enough, decent grammar and a fair enough price. Unlike some of the places he’d “toured.”

He has to trudge up a few flights of stairs to get to the place, because roof access is always high on the priority list, and knocks on the door. He waits a few minutes, hears someone check the peephole, and then the sound of at least five separate locks being undone.

With the door finally open, he gets a good look at the guy’s face. Too good of a look, actually.

Because the man who opens it is Dick Grayson.

why do you hate arcane...

its a spineless, centrist show that cares more about the aesthetics of various YA dystopia revolution, good vs evil (but both sides are actually the problem!) tropes to the point that it spent its entire budget on animated music videos hoping that the audience wouldnt recognize that it is, 1,000%, 10,000%, propaganda. i cannot fault its existence for it was based on LoL for the purpose of getting people to thirstpost about the characters in LoL, but storywise it is shallower than spit on the ground and i wouldnt trust it within 6 feet of a character arc

one could argue the first three episodes were quite good and set up the dynamic between vi and powder in such a way that you could trace their respective breaking points and their fallout, however. i am a hater and i refuse to stoop so low as to meet this show at face level. before s2 came out i still thought it was pretty pictures covering up a lot of feeble, half-formed statements about the dangers of technology or drugs or scary people or whatever. if you wanted to make a good show out of arcanes bones you would have better luck making ocs.

Tommy buys the champagne in a moment of uncharacteristic optimism. Maybe, he thinks. They could. They might.

One night with Evan is enough to bring everything he’s been missing up again in clear, vivid color. And it was fun, definitely, so—

Can’t they keep having fun? Evan hasn’t called, but Tommy didn’t expect him to. And. Knowing. With more certainty now. What they’re both getting into. They could keep having some of that fun, that spark, that the night before had proven once again they have in abundance.

So Tommy buys the champagne. It’s celebratory—he doesn’t think about what it means beyond that. He doesn’t think about what he’s going to have to do to make it work with Evan this time. Because it was such a coincidence, running into each other at the bar and then going home together. Having a night of tipsy, wild, giggly sex that been just as free and easy as any night while they were together. And that’s what Tommy wants. Something that feels easy.

He makes breakfast, a lavish spread that he can later kissing the remnants of from Evan’s mouth. And hell, he can do better this time. He can try harder, take care of him better, maybe even open up a little more, too. The hardest part is going to be asking for a second chance, and if he can do that, well.

Tommy already bought the champagne.

And then Evan wakes up. And it is easy, and Evan’s never looked more beautiful, and when Tommy tells him that it can change things, asks what he’s doing Saturday, Evan gives him the most devastating post-dick eye flutter Tommy’s ever seen in his whole miserable, goddamn life.

So of course that’s when he fucks it up.

Evan says he doesn’t have to have feelings for people he sleeps with, and if nothing else Tommy knows he’s a good lay. He takes care of his partners. It’s what he’s there for. So there aren’t feelings. That’s fine. He projected how miserable he’s been and that wasn’t fair to Evan. It was why he’d left in the first place, anyway. So he could find someone better and Tommy wouldn’t drag him down.

It is funny, though, he thinks as he leaves for a shift he definitely doesn’t have. He was right. Evan did break his heart a little.

Maybe, with so much still unpacked, he hasn’t had a housewarming party yet. Evan can find something worth celebrating without him.

Of course it's fucking THESEUS

okay. i havent shut up about the greek myth aspects of Simon's story and i wont stop now. At first it was a statue of Persephone in the garden, with it's head replaced to be Betty, giving the implication that Betty is the Persephone to Simon's Hades, and it was Simon's status as an antiquarian. and now we've gotten Simon being a huge nerd and bringing up Theseus completely unprompted (so real)

a bit of context in case you need it, Theseus was one of those greek "legendary Heroes" (Achilles, Heracles, etc.), and previously King of Athens, but had managed to dodge most bad things that happen to Greek heroes. he was just stupid and i guess they took pity on him.

The Ship of Theseus or "Theseus' Paradox", which I'd imagine all of tumblr knows by now, but if you don't, is the question on whether if a ship, specifically Theseus', is still the same ship after having all of its parts replaced exactly. To me this makes for such an obvious connection to Simon. Simon's story factors around identity, first and foremost. (yknow. "I Remember You" and all that?) The concept of not knowing what you are fundamentally was originally Ice King's thing, as his previous life as Simon was essentially history. But now that's being brought to Simon. and Simon has the lucidity to process what that means for him.

Loop stumbles out of the timeloop tired confused hurt

They look back, expecting to see someone but no one is there. You're back home, why would there be two of you on your timeline?

They look forward. The loop continues, their wish was done, they helped themselves out in a very literal sense- but they still have another wish unfulfilled. Somehow that hurts more.

Loop focuses on the here and now and all they see is a familiar ceiling, somehow they forgot it, upon experiencing so long basking in the sun.
