This is more a journey through movies I've loved because I have no idea what my ten favourite movies actually are 🙈 Some of these haven't been revisited in a MINUTE.

this is gonna be very off the top of my head and in not a huge amount of order and some of these are cheats ANYWAY

five by five/sanctuary - faith and angel friendship I love youuuu. cheating with this one a lil because I'm putting two episodes together but they do tell one complete story. I just think the character drama in this two parter is some of the show's strongest - I know a lot of people don't like how buffy is written in these episodes but honestly I think it really works. I love how legitimately angry and upfront she gets to be at faith and I think that confrontation they have on the rooftop near the end is such a great scene for their relationship! the fact that the resolution is faith turning herself into the american prison system is a bit cringe innit but doesn't take away too much from a really strong set of episodes

to shanshu in la - not the strongest plotwise but I mostly just love it for the angel investigations dynamics and character moments. cordy buying arts and crafts supplies for angel <3 "we're family" <3

birthday - rewatched this one very recently and it's still just Excellent. i mean it certainly stirs up some Feelings in me with the hindsight of season 4, by which I mostly mean I spent a lot of it making "GET AWAY FROM HER YOU ABOMINABLE FREAK I KNOW YOUR PLAN" noises whenever skip was onscreen, but all that aside it's just a really fun and inventive it's a wonderful life spin! a real high point of the show after which it's. kind of all downhill? like not to imply there's no good episodes after but yeah. i keep telling people i've convinced to watch ats that they can just stop watching after this one and they keep not listening to me. i got fie to watch it the other day and her response was "I just can't wait to see where they take this demon cordelia thing" so um. rip to her.

are you now or have you ever been - listen i'm not beating the middle aged dad taste in media allegations I love things about the cold war. and also I love things about memory and the past and how our pasts and presents bleed into each other. so this one is kind of just pure isabelbait on every level. also a great showcase for the new team dynamic with gunn well and truly in the mix, even if the main cast sans angel aren't actually in it all that much

darla - honestly there's so many episodes of the darla arc that could deserve a place on this list, but I just love the flashbacks in this one and again I think the character drama with her and angel in the present is some of the strongest. also on a purely meta level i just think it's very fun and cool how this is a stealth crossover with fool for love lol

reunion - just very cunty really. love darla and drusilla love angel going off the rails love the dramatic ending note of him firing cordy wes and gunn. no notes

disharmony - one of the best episodes for comedy easily (harmony is just. such a joy to watch always) but also has a surprisingly strong emotional core methinks. truly i will never forget the time i was watching it with mj and when cordy told angel they weren't friends anymore i leapt up and paced around the room and kicked my glass of water over and spilled water on my laptop and very luckily didn't break it. though also now that i say that I feel like that wasn't THAT long before the S key stopped working so . hm.

the pylea arc - another cheat sawrryyyyy! but again the last three episodes of season 2 are basically one long story so I don't feel too bad about it. anyway again the comedy is just fantastic there's SO many memorable beats from lorne's family to groo's introduction to fred's introduction to lorne fighting with the power of sun to angel's "can we all appreciate how not on fire I am!" AND CORDY BEING MADE PRINCESS OF PYLEA OFC!!! it's just so infectiously fun and watchable and also it's just very heartwarming watching the gang band together to get cordy out of pylea

fredless - a really great showcase for how good mere smith is at writing the character dynamics lol. the opening with cordy and wes imitating buffy and angel and angel getting annoyed and going for ice cream with fred and not inviting anyone else.... it's so funny. it's so so good. this one also gets points for being one of like. 2 good fred episodes maybe. i love how in denial she is and how affected she is by her experience in pylea and how this episode points to her just having. A lot of Problems that then never really come up again unforch. but on its own merits it's fabulous

LITA Ep. 5 Rewatch Thoughts Part 1

(edit bc I started writing this post like 6 months ago - hi! I'm gonna finish going through the rest of the phayurain episodes of LITA finally! I've lost all sense of shame so these posts are just gonna be love letters to Eul, hope that's ok) Hi hi hi! I find it absolutely hilarious that the notes on the final part of my episode 4 rewatch post (which contains my best screenshots of That Scene) has like triple the notes of the rest of the parts. I love the thirsty LITA fam <3 I think I kept it mostly clean for the first 3 episodes but LITA brainrot is real and from here on out I'm putting down all my deranged thoughts into words so enjoy

Onwards to episode 5!! Ok so y'all should know by this point that BossNoeul sang the opening right? I added it on spotify and have listened to it on repeat so much over the last week that I could probs (badly, bc my singing voice leaves much to be desired but I can and will belt it at the top of my lungs) karaoke it now. If y'all haven't heard the full version check it out bc they rap a few bars and Noeul has this line "shake your bo- shake your bo- shake your body" that makes me lose it every time

The recap sees us revisiting some rather adorable moments from the previous episode including PhayuRain in the rain and tub. Imagine if they stuck the leg kiss in the recap >.<

We open to sunlight pouring in through the curtained windows on the morning after. I kind of wish the last episode had ended with this scene bc it would have been a soft transition after the intimacy PhayuRain shared rather than the abrupt cut to credits. But I digress.

Phayu's hair looks glorious out and I wish we'd gotten to see it like this more. In fact I think we should've seen Rain push his hands through it and grip it during episode 6's NC scene. Also the definition of that bicep? Sir pls.

I ADORE how sweet Phayu is towards Rain all the time, and this is yet another example. I love it when characters look fondly at their lover (I finally get to use that word for them!!), cover them with a blanket, and then give them a forehead kiss before sliding out of bed. SO FOND

I just think it's really attractive when people do this. Rain was really missing out by snoozing.

The state of Rain's neck and chest sends me into hysterical giggles every time. Phayu you did not have to go that hard with the marking bestie (let's be honest though, looking at the state of Phayu's neck post episode 6 they both have marking kinks) - everyone's gonna know Rain's officially yours soon enough. Also throwback to how like two months ago (or something like that idk the exact timeline) Rain was like hmph I never want anything to do with P' Phayu ever again. I didn't hear any complaining from you last night hmm??? Also I love how confident Rain was in his abilities to seduce Phayu, so true of him

OK WAIT I think I finally get the whole yellow-blue thing. It literally is just that yellow is Rain's representative color and Phayu's is navy blue. So by making Rain put on Phayu's navy blue shirt for the "morning after" they're just reiterating that Rain belongs to Phayu now. Mystery solved :)

Obligatory shot bc he's worked hard for these gains and I think he deserves some appreciation ft. Rain who's making the same face as all of us. I think they spent like 30 whole seconds on Phayu's shoulders and that's so valid of them

Ok, and we're back to Rain in a yellow t-shirt looking very feverish. He's holding his teal green phone (case) up though which is a combo of yellow and blue, isn't it? I'm sorry my color theory is lacking. His eyebrows look really nice here and I don't know why I noticed. I hope he has a good nap! But oops he misses calls from Phayu...

This episode's title is "the Calm Before the Storm" which implies it's gonna be a mostly tooth-rotting fluff episode and that drama is on the way next week. I'm already smiling so wide my cheeks hurt so the title is apt.

Phayu (dressed in navy blue!) is here to make sure his precious Rain is ok and Mama is already planning the wedding in her head.

The first three or four times I watched this, I was paying too much attention to their faces and probably missed a lot so let's break it down a bit. Phayu comes in, Rain's surprised and sits up, and Phayu sits down next to Rain on the bed but facing away. Phayu is slightly upset that Rain went away without saying anything and he was worried that since Rain was sick that him driving home alone was dangerous. The second Phayu sits down this way, Rain reaches out to grab his arm but Phayu pulls away. Compared to couples in other dramas, PhayuRain depend on touch a lot to communicate so obv the situation is quite serious plus Phayu is not immediately making eye contact with Rain.

The next couple of shots are just back and forth where Phayu asks why Rain left and Rain tells him what happened and apologies for worrying him. He looks v v soft and fluffy here

Gonna take a second to appreciate the background music bc it sounds so serious and doom-y right now but they're literally about to clear it all up so it was unnecessary to go that hard. Sound artist I love you

Throughout this conversation, Phayu starts far away (which for PhayuRain means there's like 1.5 meters of distance between their faces instead of 0.15 meters) but he moves closer and tilts his body more in Rain's direction as Rain gives each justification. He also lets Rain grab his arm. It's very subtle but I like the acting choices here.

Phayu, Rain is sick. Can you pls stop staring at his lips bff give him some rest (spoiler alert I counted like 5 lip-looks in the next 10 seconds, Phayu didn't hear me)

OK this hug. Exquisite. The gap has been bridged, all parties are happy again, and they both absolutely sink into each other.

Boss' little shoulder rub here is so soft and gives us more PhayuRain believability. We can see how worried he was and how relieved he is now that Rain is safely in his arms again.

Rain's cheek-smushed nod agreeing to never disappear from Phayu's side ever again is everything to me.

I don't actually think this was what I was supposed to get out of this but there's something about the symmetry of this hug and them being in the shape of a triangle and how technically their first encounter as a couple involved Phayu's triangle tool etc. etc. etc. Also headpat alert!

More subtle and soft gestures from Phayu. Rain is down bad.

Except this is not that kind of punishment and I can't believe Phayu really brought along a rectal suppository. To his credit though, I believe they're supposed to be more immediately effective than oral medicines because they absorb more directly into the body so he just wants Rain to be healthy faster. Although I wish Phayu would've not proceeded to yank Rain's pants off without permission, it's fiction and I hope if Rain had shown signs of major discomfort he would've listened. I do have to wonder if Mama put on headphones though bc Rain was really loud with his protests. I also think this must've been funny to film bc if you look closely before it cuts to Rain's mom, Rain looks like he's holding back laughter.

This sequence was actually so adorable and funny. I love purrito!Rain and Phayu is looking way too smug. Mama Rain walked out of there trying to name all the yellow and blue flowers she could for the wedding centerpieces.

3. Is there a fandom/ship you’d love to write for but haven’t?

Honestly, if I’d started writing earlier I think I maybe would’ve written for cophine? Maybe one day I will, if I do a rewatch. Orphan Black was the first show that like, made me feel safe? So maybe that, if I had more time on my hands. I briefly considered writing some agathario but I have to finish the show first lmfao 😂

Anyway, I think I’m very firmly a saffi writer for now (forever? idk). I’ve loved Seven basically my whole life, and I think Raffi is the best thing to happen to her and trek as a whole in a long ass time, and I’m very obsessed with them. Also the saffi discord is what/who ultimately made me feel comfortable and confident to write fic, so I’m very emotionally attached all around.

9. Which fic did you feel the most fulfilled/healed writing?

whatever a sun will always sing was probably the most fulfilling thing to write and post. That one hit me like a truck while watching voy and doing homework in uni, and i hammered it out in one day (wild for me). Like, the fact that Icheb and Seven bonded over star charts, and he told her to try star gazing, AND THEN NML HAPPENS?! And then the Stargazer in alpha canon? Statistically Significant Reoccurrence Of Stars methinks. Raffi is Seven’s Sun, her orbit revolves around Raffi, etc etc.

Or maybe with will to choose? That was my first murderboard hc where I was like, “this needs to happen and someone needs to do it and I guess that’s me.” I still deeply love the idea of Seven taking Raffi’s last name, and the implications of that tangible connection between them. I could talk about that forever. Maybe I’ll write more with that.

They’re both pretty early works for me (and having read it again I could make “With Will To Choose” a little more cohesive now), but I was/am really proud of those. They came pretty quickly and made me really feel like I’d done something cool with original ideas (as much as fanfic based on a show can be original, anyway).

that dear perfection (which she owes without that title) is probably the one that healed me — that and I'd Give Up Forever To Touch You. Because season three and the social media shitstorm the showrunner went on really put me through the wringer (though somehow I never caught a block — it’s my greatest fandom shame /j), at a time that many things in my life were doing the same. So writing those was a good detox and catharsis for me. Biiiig taking a hammer and fixing the canon energy. And since I’ve always really identified with Seven, taking time to give her the respect and the time with her gf (I remain a breakup denier) that she deserved (& that the show should have given her) made me feel a little better, too.

17. If you have any multi-chapters, what is your favourite chapter?

Oh god 😂

So I guess tell all the truth (but tell it slant) is the truest multi-chapter I have, and it haunts me daily that I haven’t finished it (fwiw, chapter 7 is supposed to be basically another sex scene and some domestic fluff. very short — and yet it remains incomplete, lmao). But I think I’m gonna go with the behemoth that is number 4, the 20k chapter. Absolute beast of a thing. Rare example of lighting striking in that I was extremely motivated AND I had time/energy/inspiration.

19. What are some of your favourite fic’s you’ve gifted to someone else?

Probably can’t keep my hands to myself, because it’s ridiculous and fun but takes itself a little seriously and I think has a little of everything — including good Seven characterization. I sometimes do my best work under threat of a deadline!

Plus, Raffi calling Seven “sweet girl” always gets me (and you too, lol).

i clocked off, showered, skincare, all that jazz. my skin has been THROWING A FIT let me tell you ! i have a symbiotic twin (pimple) growing right by my nose and i’ve been EXTRA diligent with my skincare (especially after work) and my skin is really not happy with me! it’s painfully dry in certain spots and then horribly greasy in others it is so. Ugh.

but also my co workers seem to not hate me! i forgot to eat before going in and my blood sugar seemed to take a little dip, so my co worker ran to the convenience store down the street to get me one of their caesar salads 😭 i paid him back and stuff i just feel guilty that he feel like he had to do that ? i don’t knoooowwwwuuuuuhhhh

RWTC 3

And now we're back for more after finishing V2! What why did it take me so long to do this? Well I was rewatching with a friend (methinks I mentioned that before) but for various lfie reasons we couldn't really meet up properly for a while so. Also, just a reminder: My friend is absolutely fucking loving RWBY so u know. It's not like I'm watching it with a hater. Yeah. ANYWAYS.

Last we left off: Grimm invaded like 2 blocks of a city! A warship showed up to kill like 2 grimm! A team of seniors stole protagonism for a minute or two and Glynda proved she's the most broken person in this universe by fixing the issue effortlessly! Team RWBY decided they'd go to sleep after a hard day, not knowing the worst was about to come. What will the future await us? Nobody will die, surely!

Ep 1: Why thanks Ruby, that IS the point we find ourselves at at this moment! The audience appreciates you for your reminder! Well that's definitely not a PNG of Tai. Clearly Ruby just brought a carbon cutout of him with her. Oh boi. Yeah, listen, I'll cut some slack to the fights this season because Monty had just passed away at this point. They're trying their best, and the fight choreography isn't awful. It's just… There's a certain energy missing. Monty was so… particular in how he did things. I'm not gonna say it's impossible to replicate him, but the very team that worked with him took years to even come close to matching his skill. Ruby, no time to flirt on the battlefield. Why is Roman working for Cinder, anyways? Is she paying him? He doesn't feel like the type that'd work for the love of it, or for Salem, you know? I don't hate the idea of a strange pairing and honestly Weiss and Yang are the strongest members of RWBY at the current time I think. Still, we haven't seem them doing many team things, so to the audience it feels weird. Is Blake only ever used for cat-related jokes? The laser, then the dog, now this with the fish. Oh hey look finally some Nora/Ren info. I don't like the Opening for the season, btw. V1 opening is a banger and iconic, V2 is catchy and well animated. I think V3's is kind of on the nose and I don't vibe with the song either.

On the Bees: They kinda do the combo attack again.

Ep 2: Jaune my guy we just saw the sniper guy blow up a rock I don't know how smart it is to hide behind another rock. THEY'RE GIVING EXPOSITION ON NORA'S SEMBLANCE? I DIDN'T REMEMBER THAT'S HOW WE FOUND OUT. WHAT THE FUCK. SO SEMBLANCES ARE IN NO WAY A SECRET. I was right to be weirded out by the supposed secrecy of Pyrrha's semblance! Anyways I know I said I'd cut them some slack but I'm not overlooking them just… not animating Nora's hit. I get it's a comedy thing and the action lasted a few minutes but… It feels kinda weird. The show's time was already tight and badly paced but team SNNN could have used some more scenes so that we could give a shit. Anyways they did not deserve that win. Oh right I forgot to mention Qrow's here. How nice. EVERYBODY TAKE COVER. SHOULD YOU MENTION THAT BLAKE BLUSHES AT SUN YOU WILL BE KILLED ON SIGHT. THIS HAS NO NARRATIVE IMPLICATIONS EVER! CLEARLY IT'S NOTHING. NO MEANING. THEY TOOK THE TIME TO ANIMATE IT FOR NO REASON.

On the Bees: The sun's looking kind of black right now innit?

Ep 3: Winter introduction! She's kind of a bitch ngl. I've been in the military, and no, not everyone in there acts like that. Does the Qrow/Winter thing ever… do anything? Like, they establish this thing and then… nothing? Like I can get it from Qrow's perspective, he's pissed at Atlas, but this feels more like a thing with Winter than anything else. That being said, it is such a shame that the first time we see these highly anticipated characters fight is after Monty's passing. I know this is the third time I spoke about it after saying I woudln't BUT IT IS A SHAME WHAT CAN I DO. Why thanks, Qrow! That IS the situation you find yourselves at at this moment! The audience apprecaites you for the info! You can tell Ruby learned from him. That being said, man, I really forgot Ironwood has always been kind of sleasy. Nice.

On the bees: Blake and Yang aint even show up this time around.

Ep 4: Fight scene happens. Nothing too important other than establishing Emerald's semblance I think? Why thank you Winter, that IS how your family semblance works! The audience appreciates the info. Maybe you did have a thing with Qrow at some point! So, why is the Schnees' semblance hereditary? If it's a manifestation of the soul, that has some… weird implications imo. I normally try not to think thaaat hard about it but, like, seriously. Does it imply some aspect of their soul is intrinsically so powerful that it overpowers the nascent ability of a newborn? I don't think we've seen Weiss's brother use his semblance but he's supposed to have the same, right? Well look at that Qrow gets to be very heterosexual here. Qrow: "They don't give medals for 'almost'" Ruby: "They do and they're called Silver!" OOOOOOF that's actually good foreshadowing holy shit. I like this Qrow scene. He really lays it on thick. I think I'd like the Weiss/Winter stuff more if it didn't feel so expository tbh.

On the bees: Blake did not show up this episode.

Ep 5: Penny too OP pls nerf. Anyways why wasn't Cardin here. Nuts and Dolts my beloved. Oh setting up that she's magnetic. Would say it's smart but we've seen Pyrrha manipulate aluminum cans so her power does not actually rely on magnetism and is most likely just metalbending. Anyways bluecap girl. She's important, surely! I'm sure we'll see a lot more of her :) Freezerburn fight! Against these dudes that show up once again in v7 I think. I did not remember the boobs joke. Don't know how to feel about it. Though I guess Yang is technically an adult. Think the animators played Jet Set Radio to get into the mood for this fight? What- What? Why did trumpet guy not finish Weiss off? Is he stupid? I know we need RWBY to win but what the actual fuck? That was… really anticlimatic. The rest of the fight was fun, but it kinda felt like it ended not because of Yang's skill but because of Neon's(?) stupidity. See, I think the Maiden Stuff is a bit of a retcon. Cuz in V2 they actually went to great lengths to show how Cinder could do her fire stuff… only to have it be maiden magic thing in V3.

On the bees: The short conversations Yang and Weiss had here gives more fuel to Freezerburn than Bumbleby has gotten yet. Insane.

Ep 6: What do you mean it's been months since I saw last chapter? Nonsense Now that I notice, isn't it HILARIOUS that team SNNN has the two randos nobody even remembers at their front in the OP? lmaooooo Ah yes the completely not out of left field maidens stuff we all know for a fact this was planned from the beginning and not introduced here in a strange attempt to make this story larger than it really needed to be. Despite the shit I give the random appearance of this, I don't immediately hate it. The fact that later on the powers aren't seasonal in the slightest is a big fucking annoyance (Why have them distinguished by seasons if there is no distinction between them) but this avatar-esque sort of powerful baton-pass is, at least, interesting. The fact it ends up being just a literal 'find the mcguffin power to get the mcguffin artifacts' is something I'll maybe tackle later. Ah, yes, Aura technomagical mumbo-jumbo. If only we actually understood how the fuck it actually works. Subtlest transition in the show. Hey, the choreography here is pretty neat! It could be a bit faster and the projectile tornado is not the best choice but we do get the return of the Dempsey Roll! Ok, before I go on a rant regarding the illusion here, I'll wait until it's properly explained, because I may be remembering how it went down incorrectly.

Ep 7: Starting with the moment these characters meet is not necessarily bad, it kind of explains why they're with Cinder, but once again I think these scenes are hurt by pacing. I don't mind the Adam scene, I just find it hard to believe he'd ever accept to talk to humans at all at first. Like, I reckon Cinder would've been attacked on sight. And of course the idea that these guys would let a Maiden just go on alone without any vigilance for a while at any point is absolute nonsense. Maaaaaaan last episode I praised the fight but this was b a d jesus. Anyways see what I mean about the maiden powers? Them just being "yeah it's magic whatever" feels kinda underwhelming ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS CHICK'S BEATEN SO STUPIDLY. Anyways Mercury and Emerald dodge lightning here. Just… they just do it. I'm sure there'd be a powerscaler somewhere that would go through the trouble of actually thinking hard on that but let's not go down that route. (note: I asked a powerscaler friend and apparently all RWBY characters scale to FTL I am going to unalive meself) Anyways really girl? All that power and you get beaten by, basically, three grenades? And hte aftermath of the fight… they don't actually explain exactly what happened, but I assume Emerald created the illusion for Yang? How real do her illusions feel? Anyways I was gonna say something more but I forgor, maybe it'll come back to me. Anyways Mercury's VA has actually gotten quite better since his introduction. Cinder… not so much yet.

On the bees: Nothing. literally fucking nothing for 7 episodes in a row I am going insane. Don't even let me count season 2 on the streak.

Ep 8: Honestly, Ironwood having a point aside, Yang got off easy. As far as everyone knows, she potentially maimed a downed student for no reason. Getting disqualified is like, a slap on the wrist by comparison. WAIT. STOP EVERYTHING. FUCKING FINALLY. ONE (1) ACTUALLY GOOD BUMBLEBEE MOMENT!!!!!!!!! UNHEARD OF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can see where Blake is coming from, Yang's reaction is pretty telling. Hell, Blake comparing Yang to Adam is a romantically charged parallel. (also some freezerburn fuel with Weiss refusing to even consider Yang was in the wrong but we'll skip that) The scene with team JNPR is aight. Pyrrha is thoughtful about the maiden stuff, Nora and Ren are comedic, it's all fine. Oh right I just remembered what I was going to say before: NONE OF THIS ACTUALLY HOLDS UP TO SCRUTINY BECAUSE YOU LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE PEOPLE HAVE SUPERPOWERS. YANG MESSING UP LIKE THAT COULD BE EASILY EXPLAINED BY A SEMBLANCE. ESPECIALLY QROW WHO WAS THERE FOR THE EMBER ATTACK AND KNOWS SHIT'S ABOUT TO GO DOWN AND THAT HIS NIECE WOULD NEVER DO THAT. I'll proceed to ignore the part of my brain that knows this moving forward. Honestly, the scene between Jaune/Pyrrha here may be one of the best written in the show. They allow it to breathe, the conversation feels real, the music's great, the atmosphere is heavy. I've had my grievances with the pairing, and I still do, but this scene does manage to sell me on the heartbreak that comes later. See, this is what I mean? Bunnygirl gives one (1) hint of the semblance thing to Ruby and she figures it out. How can super experienced teachers and shit not even consider it? "Didn't you say you were going to ignore-" shut up. As much as I really like the buildup to the final scene here, I have one teeny tiny little problem with Mercury stopping Ruby. Come on now, say it with me: YOU. HAVE. SUPER. SPEED. MERCURY SHOULD NO BE ABLE TO STOP YOU. YOU CAN LITERALLY JUST GO RIGHT THROUGH AND HE CAN'T CATCH UP.

On the Bees: WOOOOOOO CELEBRATION TIME WE GOT IT DUDES AND GALS EVERYONE CHEER. Is it enough to make me believe they're already in love and that they're on-route for a romantic development? No, not really, but fucking hell this is the first time this rewatch I've been like "yeah I can actually ship that."

Ep 9: Ozpin: sees what's about to go down Also Ozpin: Does fuckall about it RUBY DON'T FUCKING STAND AROUND YOU HAVE SUPER SPEED THIS GUY IS CLEARLY SUS JUST GO "Mercury caught her-" YEAH BUT SHE GAVE HIM TIME TO GET READY, FFS. Anyways at LEAST she tried ffs. The fight here is ok-ish. Lots of fast and fancy moves that are sometimes hard to parse, but not necessarily in the same fashion as Monty's style. Enjoyable nonetheless. Never quite understood why Pyrrha didn't stop using her semblance after deflecting the blades? Or did she really give them that much momentum? Anyways, it's a fine scene. I'd say it's less impactful knowing Penny comes back to life (and then they kill her again) but I enjoyed Penny's 2nd run so much more so I'm happy for it. The fallout of the whole th- WAIT A GODDAMN MOMENT THE EPISODE IS CALLED PVP BECAUSE IT'S PYRRHA VS PENNY I'M GOING TO FUCKING KILL MYSELF anyways as I was saying the fallout of the whole scene is, in my opinion, a bit subdued? Until the actual fallout kicks off but I think there should have been a riot from like, second 5. And we don't even get to see how Ruby got past Mercury actually, do we? Jesus fuck. Cinder's speech is kind of… overdone? Like, you could probably cut it to half the length and have it be more impactful. Also this is a perfect example of the fact that nobody in RWBY should actually be alive. Like, in a worldbuilding sense, even with Ozpin and Maidens helping out, no society should be able to get to the level of any of the big cities. I can't believe they left Roman in a cage for half a volume and then he'll die having done basically nothing. What a fucking waste man he's so much fun.

On the Bees: Nothing. Will we have anything else before the big moment at the end? We better fucking do because otherwise it's nothing for 2 more volumes lmao

Ep10: Once again I am proven right in my assessment that everyone should get their aura unlocked, because then this shitshow would be a lot more survivable. Anyways monochrome here standing still amidst a stampede of Grimm is kind of… a wasted chance? They should've been fighting while talking. Aight the scene of the lockers raining down on the nevermore is quite good. So I understand the civilians, but aren't all of the people in uniforms hunters? Even if they're in training, I reckon there should be a lot more fighting. Blake: "they're shooting at us! Lie on the ground without cover, that'll make them miss us for some reason!" And it works. Using the locker to fly is pretty smart! And we've seen Jaune being thrown in one before so it's not unbelievable- Wait actually why don't students do that more often. BLAKE, WEISS, NEVER SPLIT THE FUCKING PARTY. "My darling." Clearly nothing ever happened between Adam and Blake. OZPIN GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GO HELP YOU LAZY FUCK DON'T JUST STARE OUT THE DAMN WINDOW I love the dragon grimm, but if you know me, you know I just love dragons in general.

On the Bees: Great episode for Monochrome actually.

Ep11: Did Neo just flirt with Ruby? Like, come on. I've seen people insist Adam and Blake had nothing going on but all of these "my love" don't seem quite one-sided. Blake doesn't refute them. So, Velvet's ability is really fucking cool, and building a weapon that can take advantage of that is also really cool. If you know me, you know 'copying abilities' is pretty much my 2nd favorite superpower (behind superspeed), so I tend to use it a lot in TTRPG campaigns and such. Hell, I have a RWBY OC with the ability to copy semblances (One at a time, doesn't come with inherent understanding, it's quite underpowered as far as copy abilites go). So yeah, believe me when I say I think this is pretty cool. On the other hand, we have almost no investment in these characters, and I think it woudl've been cooler if her box mechanically transformed into these weapons rather than projecting them. It would also bypass the whole "one use only" deal. And Weiss finally using the knight feels quite nice. Well, only an arm. Don't remember when she summons the whole thing. End of V4, methinks? "It's not what I have to gain, it's what I can't afford to lose". Roman having the rawest fucking lines again and he's about to die this is so fucking sad man. Anyways does it really feel like Roman would work for these people just cuz he's scared? Idk he seems more like the kind to try to get profit off the end of the world. Let's be honests: Roman's death was a clear case of "we can justifiably bring him back if we want to". Just have the destruction of the ship kill the grim that ate him, while at the same time the body protected him from the explosion. Which they should have done because he's by far the most charismatic antagonist the show has had up to this point. For being the first time Qrow uses his scythe, it's quite confusing. He could have 100% done that with the sword. Ok, second big Bees moment! Lemme talk about it in the bees segment. JAUNE, YOU HAD ONE JOB. SEE? WE HAVEN'T SEEN YANG TAKE DAMAGE, HOW HAS SHE ACTIVATED HER SEMBLANCE? Jesus fucking christ have some consistency guys please. Yellow blood? Really guys? I mean I get she's yellow but that's kind of taking me out of it lmao. No Ozpin you don't get to be badass you were sitting around doing jackshit for too long, this is 100% your fault. Anyways, episode full of stuff. First real Salem foreshadowing.

On the Bees: Adam says "I'll destroy everything you love" and yang shows up. Is this shippy? Sure, I can give you that. Was it made with /that/ intent? Allow me to be quite clear: I doubt so. Thematically, it's just supposedly the person closest to Blake, her direct partner. Again, in 3 seasons so far, the show has done absolutely nothing to make me believe they give a shit about representation. Plenty of explicit hetshit going on, but not a single queer person making a clear appearance. So yeah, allow me to cast my doubts.

12: woo magic fight Oh these teachers are alive. Don't remember seeing htem in future volumes so I thought they dead. HANDHOLDING WHITE ROSE CONFIRMED NO MATTER HOW HARD THE WRITERS TRY NOT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. "WE WILL FIND THEM" GAYASS See, Pyrrha was actually going to survive, the problem is that she inadvertedly set off the final Death Flag, 'kiss before an important moment', which usually isn't lethal on its own but can be when you already have more of them. SMH. The fight is badass. Maybe the gears move could have used a bit more, uh, actual using, rather than the usual "pile everything on top of her" thing. But yeah it's pretty good. And of course, Pyrrha's death. It's quite painful, really. Not too shocking but a good scene overall. Do I believe the show could have been more interesting should they have kept her alive? Yes, probably. Silver eyes! The one piece of foreshadowing I can actually believe. For once, someone infodumping the current situation makes sense. Infodumping about silver eyes which won't actually become relevant again for another 3 seasons. Sisterly reunion is alright. All this infodumping is a bit much imo, would rather have some other scene in the middle. Wow Weiss you and Ruby both have PNG dads, you have so much in common. Anyways yeah salem another actual piece of foreshadowing well done. She looked much cooler in this engine too.

On the Bees: Blake runs away from how guilty she feels towards the whole Yang thing, and Yang is clearly hurt. It's a good basis for some angst and yearning that they ABSOLUTELY squander in vol6.

Anyways yeah that's the season! Honeslty having split it down hte middle I don't feel like I can quite make a judgement on whether I enjoyed it more or less than previous ones, but it is overall better written. too bad we're now going into 2 of hte worst volumes of the show if memory serves me right.

Oh, and surprisingly enough, methinks Pyrrha finally passed the bechdel test. Third time's the charm, eh?

Now, for short things:

WoR "Aura": I've never been a fan of the aura/semblance thing. Aura and semblances are fine but this show just isn't very interested in actually exploring what a world with these abilities would feel like. They do a fine job of establishing dust-tech, but nothing regarding semblances? As stated during I think my V1 notes: You should be doing everything to unlock Auras and find useful semblances amidst the population. What if someone has a semblance that just lets them create food or water? or stuff like that. There are no rules attached to semblances other than "manifestation of the soul."

WoR "Vytal Festival Tournament": Oh, wait, were these meant to be seen before V3? or during V2? Whoops. Once again I am forced to ask about the viability of war in Remnant. Its logistics. With Grimm… it just doesn't feel plausible. Anyways this short seems mostly here just to explain Amity colloseum. Which like, fine, it can exist.

WoR "Huntsmen": Why was hunting only a profession after the war thing? Didn't people need to protect themselves from Grimm before? Surely there were already people doing that by then. Wait, what do you mean "now defunct mantle"? I mean it's not the best place to live but it was hardly dead.

WoR "CCTS": One tower going down meaning all towers go down is, in all honesty, incredibly fucking poor design. I get it goes with the themes but you can't tell me they figured out the tech without also figuring out how to isolate towers so that htem falling wouldn't collapse the others. Other than that, it's just a lengthy explanation for "we invented the internet."

WoR "Four Maidens": Nice animation and all, but this could have easily been a world of remnant for s1—except this story didn't exist back then, of course. Neither did the maidens. Other than that, it's quite the boring fairy tale, aint gonna lie. Not much going on, the show's version of it was better simply because it let you imagine what the actual story was. ANWYAYS SEE WHAT I MEAN? THIS THING IMPLIES THE MAIDENS HAD ELEMENTAL POWERS UNIQUE TO THEM. Ugh still angry about that. Way to make maidens indistinguishable from each other.

There's the 4 kingdom WoRs but I'm gonna be honest with you fam, dunno if I actually care to watch them. If I do I'll include them in the v4 notes.

it’s frustrating when people (mainly GA—and, surprise! homophobes!) act like byler is in the same vein as background ships that hardly even interact with each other—i.e fanonical ones with a loose basis in the actual show...

if you think byler is just some far-fetched fan theory you might wanna rewatch the show. i mean, it’s been several years since the first three seasons, a refresher could be good to remind you that mike and will’s relationship is sewn into the very fabric of the show. there’s always been special, very deliberate emphasis on the two of them in comparison to any other platonic pair in the show. there’s always been romantic framing, tropes, subtext, and parallels with them.

st*ddie and r*nance, for example, aren’t as deeply based in the show. they have real chemistry, understand each other and are very cute—i don’t mean that in a belittling or sarcastic way, they’d both make good couples and i’m a casual shipper /gen. the difference between ships like them and byler is that the show literally would not function the same without mike and will’s unique dynamic, and not going through with making them canon would be a huge storytelling failure and (yeah i’m gonna use the word) queerbait.

people treating byler like some made up impossibility isn’t just a way to demean us, specifically, though. the root of it is (unsurprisingly) homophobia. their rhetoric isn’t really about it being unrealistic, even if that’s what they’ll claim—it’s about us believing two well-established, likable, and not especially stereotypical MALE characters in a super popular tv show could actually get together. because as you know, all queer people look/act the same, never have comphet, and never get happy endings, etc etc /s.

(and it’s funny, because a lot of them are willing to accept that will’s in love with mike but only under the condition that will gets his heart broken. reeks of homophobia, methinks)

this is probably hypocritical considering this post but, to bylers: don’t let them succeed in demeaning you. please don’t let them make you doubt yourself. st*ddie and r*nance shippers too: their stories may not be as fully-fledged (partly because they’re more minor characters than the main party) but everything you see is intentional. you’re not making up the chemistry and dynamic you see, even the actors and actresses agree with you.

in conclusion (kinda), people think we’re seeing things that aren’t there because they can’t fathom a queer tv couple developing with the same tropes as tons of straight tv couples do: slowburn, several seasons in, love triangle, childhood friends to lovers, etc. the only queer couples they’ve ever seen in media are with characters that are established as queer from the get-go, and usually get with their s/o’s pretty early on. (also, there’s the large amount of people who cry that mike can’t love will back bc he has a girlfriend and is therefore straight—as if comphet and bisexuality don’t exist)

i don’t wanna be that guy but... it really does just come down to the fact if one of them were female, nobody would deny byler’s existence and that it’s endgame. it’s so stupid, but that’s actually what it comes down to. when you look past it all, the main anti-byler argument is “umm actually they’re both boys so :P”

Sorry I’m getting to this so late!

I’ll admit I haven’t studied into the characters as much as some others have, so my possible wisdom may barely scratch the surface

I shall try my best!

(This is a long post. Sorry about that hdjsksk)

Theories

The only plot theory I have mainly surrounds Minato, our MC. (That feels like a Captain Obvious statement but what I mean is that I don’t know how the whole cast will play in jdksksk)

First off, from the trailer and from the character description, we know that Minato had some kind of incident involving water polo, and given that he was shown in a hospital bed, whatever happened was pretty serious.

In the shot in the trailer, he’s blocked by who I assume are his family and friends/old teammates, so we don’t get to see if he’s sporting some visible injury. But whatever it was, he swore to never play water polo again.

But in the next few shots, we see him with his past team, and he’s ripped as hell. Then the next scene shows him standing in front of a mirror, and it seems like he lost a lot of muscle definition.

I have two theories as to what may have happened (and watch both be wrong lmaooo)

1. He broke a bone and needed surgery to fix it, so that’s why we see him waking up in a hospital. (Because most people don’t go to the hospital for broken bones, you know? Unless it was life threatening or impossible to fix without surgery. This is why I have a second theory, but I’ll get there). As a result of his injury, he had to quit the sport. He vowed to never play it again, so I assume this particular incident haunts him.

2. This one may be WAY off and I have a penchant for bringing in angst, so be ready for that. My second theory is that maybe he nearly drowned while playing the sport in his past. Woah Dramatic I Know but it was my first thought since he’s shown in the hospital. Countering the other theory, most people don’t go to the hospital for a broken bone—and I don’t think your whole family and close friends would be there when you come to.

I think whatever it was possibly put him in a coma, whether it’s some serious injury or losing consciousness underwater. Either of those is enough to make someone reluctant to play the sport again, and avoiding it for a long time will surely cause one to lose muscle mass.

Maybe he developed some kind of fear of water? Though if this is the case, it probably gets resolved pretty early into the season, but I have a feeling whatever this incident is will haunt us again when we get towards the final episodes. Bakuten style.

Now, I have another thing to bring up.

Kawakubo Chinu, the one girl in the trailer, knows about Minato’s past.

Either she was there when it happened or she heard about it/learned about it from one of the other characters, possibly Eitarou since he also knows about Minato’s past.

I assume she’s their age, and even though she’s famous she probably stays with the team a lot. Perhaps she’ll help them train, or she’ll help Minato overcome his past incident.

Favorite Characters

From the brief descriptions we had, I think I’ll have three possible favorite characters.

One is the one kid who admires Minato—Eitarou. See this kid looked so bright and happy and Babey. He’s gonna be like Futaba I just know it. *gently holds*

Another possible favorite will be that one who’s super withdrawn from others, I think his name was Yoshiharu. Idk I just tend to gravitate towards these characters. Kin material methinks /hj

And, the character who will be my all time favorite for the rest of time — drum roll please — Kameyoshi!!!! How could I not. Our beloved tortoise deserves the world. I’ve only had Kameyoshi for a day and a half but if anything happens to him I’ll kill everyone in this room and then myself

Shipping

Shipping is scary to talk about before a show starts but I do have a couple guesses as to who I and many others will probably ship

The first guess is Minato and Eitarou, since Eitarou admires Minato. (Reminds me of Misato and Futaba, and it’s a dynamic I love and can personally relate to hdksks)

Another ship I can see happening is Minato and Jou, since it seems like Minato, Jou, and Eitarou will be the main trio. Jou (and Eitarou) convinces Minato to join the sport again so I can see where people (and possibly myself) will be like !!!! SHIP !!! (Valid, by the way)

(And who needs love triangles when there’s an easy answer? Can’t decide between those two? No problem! All three are in love Thanks For Coming To My Ted Talk) /lh

We also have the one (1) girl character, so I desperately hope she won’t be there just to be ogled at by the boys yknow? Anyway, there will probably be a ship or two people might like her to be in, but since we don’t have a description on her other than that she knows Minato’s past and is famous, imma hold off on possibly guessing who she’ll be shipped with. (Me. She’ll be shipped with me. Kawakubo Chinu I ask for your hand in marriage)

That’s really all I can guess so far! Again I haven’t studied the characters much, but I did rewatch the trailer a bunch of times lmaoo.

The trailer doesn’t give much, or anything really, in the way of rival teams, so I’m not sure how that plays into to the plot or even Minato’s past.

Interesting handwave of everything here regarding Peggy and Sousa by just...not addressing it. The implication here is that long distance and work got between them which honestly makes some sense. I did long distance for a while...like 4000 miles long distance and it was rouuggghhhh (mostly because of the time differential) but by that time we had been dating for 3 years so we were pretty committed...anyway I’m just saying that leaving the Steve goes back in time-ness out of this it’s still possible that in this timeline it just didn’t work out. 

Don’t @ me I like Peggy/Sousa too I just found it interesting

Sousa is definitely turning on the charm, but he’s only at like a 5/10 on the Flirty Sousa scale

You know, Sousa takes it all pretty well, but honestly they did make a big decision for him. I mean I’m sure he didn’t want to die, but not only did he not die, they just took him forward in time too. It’s no wonder he has some negative feelings in the next episode.

And then there’s Freddie and the Chronicoms who are boring

But that would be an awesome band name

First of all, this episode rates a 100000/10 on the Stylish scale because it was so moody and amazing. This episode also gets a 10/10 on the Mack & Sousa Brotp scale because legit Mack was like I like this dude we’re keeping him (and Daisy was trying not to cheer). Also Elena gets a 500/10 on the Big Brain scale because she was definitely big braining here.

Also the Thespian of Shield Award goes to Robo Phil Coulson for absolutely eating that death scene to pieces.

The song for this episode is “Cry Me a River” sung by Julie London because it’s super moody and minimal and definitely fits right in this ep. Also this is another song I used to sing and play on the piano with Granny.

ill be honest i wasnt paying that much attention bcs i was looking for my charger (my battery has been at 2% for like 15 minutes now) im gonna rewatch that later but um some thoughts:

i wasnt expecting tessla to come out that soon and that quickly too, although they kinda did the scene justice with how terrifying it was what the hell she's LABELED ALIVE. SHE'S A DYING PLANT. the severed arm. eye. others.

the geranium flashback was too quick methinks although thats understandable given the duration. it still killed me tho to see rollo die and turn into flowers (tbh i also did not expect for the geranium to be in stampede at all because it had not come up even once before. again with the duration, it makes sense)

since julai is most likely a lost cause now (as well as vash) it'd be interesting how it all plays out from here. definitely wont get the classic trimax eriks, and season 2 (ig we all agree thats happening) wld probably focus on vash's memory - that or he'll somehow restore everything in the next episode. idk how much eps is left (safe to assume prob 1 or 2) but well. anything could happen

honestly cant say im not disappointed with the lack of body horror and angelic themes (my friend commented its a shame they chose Avatar-esque design because vash's wings from trimax were swag ww)

THE BLACK HOLE ON VASH'S ARM WAS JUST KINDA FLOATING THERE. AT LEAST GIVE CURRENT VASH A TEEEEENY TINY BIT OF BODY HORROR :(

like. alright vines and giant flower lady BUT no way on earth that kind of thing wont have an impact on vash physically (aside from the withering (?) part)

although yeah ig knives was being considerate. he did want to save his brother after all
