Comprehensive Guide to Grants and the Best Sources Available
Tumblr media
Grants are financial awards provided by governments, foundations, and corporations to individuals, organizations, or businesses to support specific projects or initiatives. They are typically non-repayable, making them an attractive funding option for those meeting eligibility criteria.
What Are Grants?
A grant is a sum of money awarded for a specific purpose, such as funding research, launching a business, or supporting community programs. Unlike loans, grants do not require repayment as long as recipients comply with the terms and conditions set by the grantor.
Common Types of Grants:
Government Grants: Offered by federal, state, and local governments for public services, infrastructure, and research.
Foundation Grants: Provided by private foundations supporting charitable causes, education, and the arts.
Corporate Grants: Funded by businesses to align with corporate social responsibility goals.
Academic and Research Grants: Offered to universities and researchers for scientific, medical, and social research.
Small Business and Startup Grants: Available to entrepreneurs and small businesses to stimulate economic growth.
How Grants Work
Application Submission: Applicants submit proposals detailing project goals, budget, and timelines.
Proposal Evaluation: Applications are reviewed based on eligibility, relevance, and feasibility.
Award Notification: Selected applicants receive funding and sign agreements outlining reporting requirements.
Project Implementation: Recipients use the funds according to the approved budget and submit regular updates.
Final Reporting and Compliance Check: Funders evaluate project outcomes and compliance with grant terms.
Best Sources for Finding Grants
1. Government Grant Portals
Grants.gov: The official U.S. government grants database, offering thousands of funding opportunities from federal agencies.

3. Corporate Grants

Walmart Foundation: Provides grants for sustainability and community development programs.
Microsoft Philanthropies: Funds tech and education-related initiatives.
4. Business and Startup Grants
Small Business Administration (SBA): U.S. federal agency offering grants and loans for small businesses.
Hello Alice: Connects entrepreneurs with business grants and funding opportunities.
Nav Small Business Grant: Provides grants to small businesses with a growth-oriented business plan.
5. Academic and Research Grants
National Science Foundation (NSF): Funds scientific and academic research projects.
National Institutes of Health (NIH): Provides grants for medical research and public health projects.
Fulbright Program: Academic exchange and research funding for international scholars.
6. International and Global Grants
UNESCO: Funds education, science, and cultural initiatives globally.
GlobalGiving: Connects nonprofits with global funding opportunities.
World Bank Grants: Supports global development projects addressing poverty and economic growth.
Tips for Successful Grant Applications
Research Thoroughly: Use multiple databases and subscribe to newsletters for grant updates.
Match the Grant to Your Goals: Ensure your project aligns with the funder’s mission and eligibility criteria.
Prepare a Strong Proposal: Include a clear statement of need, goals, budget, and evaluation methods.
Follow Application Guidelines: Adhere to submission instructions, deadlines, and required formats.
Be Persistent: Rejections are common; learn from feedback and improve future applications.
Conclusion: Grants are valuable financial resources that can fund various projects, from scientific research to community development and business ventures. By leveraging reputable grant sources and submitting compelling proposals, applicants can secure funding and bring their ideas to life. Regularly check grant databases like Grants.gov, Candid, and others listed above to stay informed about new funding opportunities.

Unfortunately for y'all this a new ship I love
(for pointing a couples of things out, this is Steven, but his personality is the one from the TV show moon knight bc I like it better than comics' Steven, and his skin should've been a little bit darker but I'm still a noob with colours and I tried out this new palette that didn't quite match)

It needs to be said that Darius Bowman is actually a much better protagonist than Alan Grant and is arguably the best protagonist of the whole franchise.

I am applying for a grant with a deadline 11:59 PM of Anywhere on Earth time.
This is the first time I am hearing about such a time. So I had to look it up. Apparently, Anywhere on Earth time (AoE) is used only for deadlines, and it denotes the moment when the given time/date passes everywhere on our planet.
I learn something new every day!

Help Plz: I Want Smiler's Glowing Eyes Back
Okay, I've mentioned this in the tags of a couple of other posts regarding my Sims and what I've been doing in the game lately, but I think it's about time I gave the problem it's own post in the hopes that maybe someone will be able to help me. Now, you may have noticed that I haven't been posting Sims 4 stuff regularly anymore, and the reason for that is because my Chill Valicer Save unfortunately fell victim to an "infinite loading screen" issue and thus I can't actually play that version of my OT3 anymore. :( I have now come up with an idea for a new save file -- featuring me starting the trio as teens living in a house together in Copperdale, and taking them through high school, college, and becoming gainfully employed as adults (I'll do a separate post about this later in more detail) -- but I have one small issue that's keeping me from wanting to dive fully into getting the file set up and running:
Smiler's iconic glowing yellow eyes aren't glowing anymore.
Let me explain what I mean by this: when I first designed Smiler in Sims 4, I made them a vampire because I wanted them to get the "emotion control aura" power vampires get high up in their skill tree (it felt appropriate for them). This also gave me access to the special occult eyes available to vampires, and naturally I grabbed the bright yellow glowing ones as perfect for them. Those eyes became a key part of their look for me (as per my post on How To Write Smiler Alton, even if I did also give them a "natural" eye color for Smilers who logically COULDN'T have glowing yellow eyes), and even after I decided that any future Smilers in any future saves I made should be spellcasters instead of vampires to get access to alchemy (a key Smiler skill, as per the above linked post), I wanted to keep the eyes. Now, fortunately, I've discovered through CAS experiments that spellcasters get access to the same occult eyes that vampires do, so all I have to do is switch their occult status and they'll be allowed to keep their eye color!
Unfortunately, I have also discovered that, for unknown reasons, those bright yellow eyes just don't glow anymore. Let me show you what I mean:
Tumblr media
Here's a headshot of my original-flavor vampire Smiler in CAS, sporting their iconic yellow eyes. Please note the shadow that rims their eyes, which is the visual sign that they're glowing.
Tumblr media
Here's a headshot of a Smiler who, thanks to me experimenting with ways to cure their vampirism without losing the yellow eyes in one of my "building" saves, ended up with green eyes because doing it normal in-game way (aka, via vampirism cure drink) did remove the yellow ones, and I decided I might as well set their "natural" eye color if that was the case. Please note the lack of a shadow around their eyes, since the natural green ones obviously do NOT glow.
Tumblr media
And HERE is a headshot of a Smiler I was playing around with in CAS a few months ago, trying to get a proper headshot of their "Valicer In The Dark" look, who I turned back into a vampire to make sure they had the right eye color...only to discover the eyes weren't glowing anymore. See the lack of shadow around their eyes? No glow!
I want to stress that this lack of glow is happening WITHOUT mods and CC too -- I've been doing a lot of vanilla building (mainly on the Polyheart OT3 House), and whenever I venture into CAS, I keep getting confronted with these non-glowing yellow eyes on Smiler. It's also not just the yellow eyes -- I looked through some of the others that are supposed to glow, and they're not glowing either! And while it's not HORRIBLE, because at least Smiler has their yellow eyes, the lack of glow keeps throwing me off! They just don't look QUITE right to me without the shadows from the glow. :( And I don't know WHY the eyes suddenly stopped glowing, or how to fix it. So my questions to all of you are:
One: What's the issue with the sudden lack of glow in Vampire eyes, and how do I fix it? Trying to search for an answer has left me high and dry -- I keep finding mods for REMOVING the glow from vampire eye colors, which, congrats folks, you apparently don't need a mod for that anymore!
Two: Failing that, does anyone have any recommendations for good glowing yellow custom content eyes? Because I'm more than willing to use CC to fix the problem, but I haven't been able to find a pair of glowing yellow eyes I like yet. They have to be the same color as the Vampires eyes -- I'm looking for that same bright electric yellow -- and I want them to look mostly like normal eyes with a white sclera (eyeball) and regular pupil.
Thanks for listening to me ramble -- any help is appreciated, trust me!

i know it's been said before but it's still startling every time i get the reminder that apparently a lot of young people think "gay panic" is "getting flustered by having a gay crush on someone" instead of. y'know. a legal defense for a homophobic hate crime
