I actually enjoy normal human [ie not urban/low fantasy] contemporary or slice of life. But strangely I am not feeling that right now.

Demographics

If there are five ROs at the LEAST two need to be characters of color [I usually say three but I am desperate]

But it goes up by one, it isn't a ratio. Meaning. Ten ros doesnt mean only four are characters of color, but rather if there are six ros now three of them are characters of color. Seven, four of them. And so on.

I'd prefer if there were nb ros [any pronouns of their choice] on the roster, but if not at the VERY LEAST there should be an option for MC to be nb

Polyam [... obviously not a must or I would get nothing, but it is a preference].

No demo needed, but if there is none I would prefer a blog that posts author updates regularly, please.

1. What first impression do they typically make? Are they likeable from the get go, or take time to grow on people?

russo absolutely has go grow on people usually lmao. he tends to give the impression that he doesn't want to be where he is at that moment before he opens his mouth, and when he does it's a 50/50 shot of whether he'll try and be polite or just try and get to the point. he's not Mean, necessarily, just not the most tactful

16. Do they easily rely on others to help them out, or prefer doing everything themselves?

he's so, so bad at asking for help. it does not occur to him to do this at all. he is good at delegating tasks if he's part of a team, but if it would be helpful to, say, have somebody stir a pot of sauce while he's working on cooking something else, it Does Not occur to him to ask someone to keep an eye on that pot for him

17. What is their biggest struggle that no one around them is able to understand or believe?

he has an incredibly specific struggle brewing in his head rn, and that's how different the rest of the world seems to be compared to his crow training. his new companions are all so different from anyone he's ever met, and sometimes it feels like he understands them and other times he does not understand them at all. in the middle of this world-shattering chaos, the hardest part of being the unofficial-official leader of this ragtag team of misfits isn't trying to get them to agree on things, it's trying to understand how and why these people can do all of the things they need to do while also feeling their emotions and expressing their personal wants. he doesn't know how to do that himself, and the prospect of trying is terrifying

30. What are their most healthy and most unhealthy coping mechanisms?

unhealthiest is by far his habit of avoiding and pushing aside his emotions lmao. healthiest... honestly, i think the fact that he's getting better at not isolating when he's upset. he's discovered, very much by accident, that it can feel good to just sit with other people in the room, even when he isn't actually talking about what's overwhelming him or anything like that

60. If they were to commit a crime, what kind of crime would it most likely be?

organized crime lmao. he's very much an assassin, so the top most likely crime would be related to killing. possession of drugs or other illegal substances is also likely by virtue of his ties to the crows

May/Coulson and Klaus/Hayley for the meme?

May and Coulson. Coulson and May. I -- . Wow. I haven’t thought hard about them in a long time. But I still have the feelings for them. I really wanted them to be a thing once. I loved May and Andrew. (I even May/Andrew/Coulson, May/Fury/Coulson). But I felt May should get the dude. Honestly, I shipped it more because I wanted May to have a happy ending and Phil just heart eyes at her breathing (even though sometimes he’s a SHIT. And I remember moments where I was displeased). But when I learned of their backstory? They are so entrenched in each other yet have come so far AND YET still have so far to go. And you don’t get to see that in an older couple. You don’t get to see that in a couple period.

It kind of makes that slow burn worth it. So, yeah, I still enjoy them and hope those two kids end up together -- even if I’m not AS invested.

Klaus and Hayley. I’m going to use the words ENTRENCHED AGAIN. Am I just lacking a thesaurus or do I have a type?

Both.

I don’t think at their end - not that I watched it - I could ship Klaus and Hayley. But people who think they didn’t love each other (or more importantly because this fandom was up his ass -- Klaus didn’t love her), are full of caca. These two mirrored each other so deliberately. Hayley’s words during their fight in front of Hope, still gets me. The desire to better parents -- a better family -- than what they had. They understood each other, for better and for worse. 

And that understanding led to both respect as well as the ability to know how to really hurt each other. Yet at the end, they were Mikaelsons. I really love how genuinely (both for better and for worse) Hayley became a part of that. Not because of Elijah. Not just because of Hope. But because of a dynamic built. I think they would have been interesting as an official couple, I don’t know how they would have lasted. But I would have LOVED to see them centuries down the road as contented (”contented”) exes. Their vibe was such a good vibe to me. Even when I detested them both -- which, could be often. The show AND the fandom undersold it.

With that said you asked me to play and not to bitch so…

First up:

Sloane and Lily: I can’t choose between them and I REFUSE TO LET YOU TEAR ME UP LIKE THIS GRAPECASE! But yeah, I choose both of them.  Sloane is like NASA smart, lowkey-but-actually-highkey badass, beyond adorable and you just want to take care of her.  Plus Sloane’s mama is everything.  She will help us choose a sperm donor for our baby, I would get cute stories about Sloane…it’s all good.  

Lily is also prime bae material.  She is one of the most attractive female LIs in the game.  She is a vampire now so she can fuck shit up now with her super strength.  Lily could strap up for you every now and then.  (Love Sloane but I know she won’t.  It’s cool.)  Plus her libido will keep lesbian bed death far away from us.

Having the both of them be wifeys is like the best of the best.  They are both cool with poly so they do not mind sharing you.  They are both gamers so the video game nights would be epic.  Sloane would make Lily and I act right and Lily will get Sloane and me out of the house.  When I eventually have a baby, that child will have 3 black mamas, can you say #winning? Lily can handle late night feedings once the baby is weaned so I can sleep because she is nocturnal.  

Hana: I would say that Hana deserves so much better and she does, but I also feel like this argument is used to negate her sexuality and her agency over her choice of romantic partners so I will try not to do that.  The other reason why Hana isn’t ranked higher is her parents are INSANE.  They run their family like a destructive cult.  And I do not want to go to jail for attempting to stab her mama.

Leah: I would rank her so much higher but her selling point is also her downfall, Andi.  She is too much like me and there can only be one me in my house.  It’s a safety precaution.  Also, her ex is insane.  

Kamilah: She has been on earth for two millennia. Dos.  That is two millennia of not wanting to deal with my ratchet fuckshit.  She is not going to want to listen to Jade and XD recap Love After Lockup with me.  So bottom of the list.

basically tl;dr i think they made some incredibly sloppy writing choices without considering the implications of them, and those implications turned james into a self-centered, shortsighted, man with a need to punch things to prove to himself that he’s capable of doing all the things that kara danvers does with an inferiority complex masquerading as righteousness and heroism.  i very much don’t think that was the intent of his whole s2 storyline at all, but that’s still what they wound up doing.

Nathaniel didn't like to consider himself an impulsive man --- for the fact of the matter, he's spent the entirety of his lives cultivating the exact opposite image.

His fingers flexed into a fist after he placed his hand against the doorframe, the strength of his focus was so ensnared by the sight before him that it didn't register to him that his fingernails were eating into the meat of his palm.

It was on her neck. Nate squeezed fingers even tighter together as ... something, some feeling ... some sensation .... caught in his throat. Here at the entrance of the Warehouse's kitchen, after a long and tense day at the Agency, he found boundaries of his patience being tested ...

By the large streak that had managed to find itself on the back of Kendis' neck.

His body remained rigid, stiff as the feeling lodged inside of him, as he attempted to keep himself from just grabbing them into him. He knew ... thought made him stiffen even more, but he knew that it wasn't just his touch that Kendis shied away from. Yet the thought he made them uncomfortable for some reason made him want to push further, instead of falling back. He felt as if he didn't ... he didn't crowd her than she would slip away from fingers that they didn't dare let reach them.

That was unlike him. She made him so unlike himself at times, that he hated it. He hated it so much, he thought; and the corners of his lips flowed into a smile and the frustration he'd been feeling melted away. He couldn't help but picture all the possible reasons for the flour at the back of their neck.

He found himself stepping forward, easing away from the doorway, and giving into the temptation and desire to jerk her close to him. He really wanted to. He knew he could just ask for the touch that he badly needed but Kendis being Kendis there were worse things they could say aside for 'no'. And 'no' was already devastating in it's own right.

Before he could give into the temptation, she turned partly as if she sensed him. The corner of her eye flickered toward him before she turned back toward the counter, set something down, and turned back fully toward him.

Their eyes trailed from his not-at-all artfully tousled hair and took in the wrinkles on his shirt that he hoped he had smoothed away effectively as well as the scuff on the shoes that had been polished when he'd left earlier in the day.

"Whoa. Farah wasn't kidding. You look like --"

"Please," He sighed, tired for various reasons, "don't finish that."

She scoffed but despite that a smirk tilted her lips crookedly before she teased, "Hey. I coulda hit you right off with what Morgan said. But sure." They shrugged. "Since you had such a donkey's crackhole of a day," Nathaniel resisted the urge to wince as they continued on, "I suppose I should cheer you up. An' play nice. Whadda you want? I think the dogpark's still -"

"A hug." The words slipped out before he could stop himself.

He wasn't sure if he hoped that she hadn't or that she had heard his words.

Given her sudden stillness -- a stillness that was an absence of movement that almost rival a vampire's -- it really didn't matt what he hoped. What he wanted.

It felt as if minutes crawled by and he found himself agitated again for another moment in this extremely long day -- agitated in a way he'd never really been since he was a boy .... Perhaps the was the correct term was antsy.

Perhaps that was the feeling that kept itself stuck inside of him, under his skin. Kendis often had a way of making him feel antsy.

His typically quick tongue, adept at smoothing things over felt rigid in his mouth.

And she just kept staring at him. She truly did make him feel so unlike himself.

"Sure."

The word was stated so simply, without any argument Nate would have thought it was his imagination - he likely would have missed it if he hadn't been a vampire - until she opened their arms for him to step into.

"I -"

"This has a time limit so you better hop to it."

It was his turn to stare. Then blink. Then slowly his lips curved into another smile as he caught the impatient wiggling of their fingers.

He felt as if he were slipping free from the weight of the day ... and something extra as he fell into their welcoming arms. He felt almost delirious. He felt so very light as he took the opportunity to in turn wrap his arms around them.

"You know," he started, "for someone who dislikes hugs you are quite --"

"Your luck. You're pushing it."

"I wouldn't the man you -- you cared for if I didn't." Clearly he'd become a man possessed.

Kendis let out a loud snort near his ear and pressed a soft kiss at his temple; so, of course, Nate took the opportunity to place one at the corner of her lips. They rolled their eyes.

@grinningjackal asked me about what scents my detectives would be as candles. i got really extra with it before i realized they actually meant actual candle scents and not some romance novel drivel. so! i decided to research, as i know nothing about candles scents.

in the end of this i now know next to nothing about fragrances. but i hope this will be interesting. i found it kind of fun. Since I tend to get long, I decided to break this down and give each character their own post. And unlike the engagement ring 'series' I will finish this one in a week. Hopefully. Maybe in a couple of days! [Also, this will have 0 sources attached bc I forgot to save some but I do have a few if you want them!!]

Andy

Erkan was a struggle because there are so many scents I felt could exhibit different parts of him, but from what I gather they don't seem to go together. I wanted to show Andy the introvert, Andy the loyal dog, Andy the vengeance seeker, but also Andy who is loyal and loves to garden and will make you spaghetti if you show up at his house in the middle in the night because being a loyal dog means loving that much. I wanted something to display he is driven, observant, distant, but also selectively warm. Ugh. Greens [grass] don't seem to blend with florals [lily] much? But apparently Jasmine goes with everything? It was giving me a headache. In the end I settled on four for him [when I initially was going to do 2-3]. I don't know if it would smell good, but

Tobacco, Musk, Ozone, and Jasmine.

I picked Tobacco, for obvious reasons. He's a smoker, lol. I picked Jasmine because in most lives Andy is a florist. And I felt ozone and musk had a certain je ne se quois that fit him. There were other scents that have certain vibes - like Tonka is a sweetish-nutty wood smell that a sort of charming, intriguing vibe ... apparently - but I liked that in the end, I managed to pick scents that I feel are in relation to Andy. [Though I REALLY wish I could bully Rum and/or Coffee into this but that felt too much].

Tobacco: Apparently does NOT smell like cigarette smoke [I don't know if I'm relieved or disappointed by this]. It seems to be categorized as a 'dry wood', but I've seen it placed under leathery/distinctive and regular wood smell. It is stated, in various sites, as sweet. And I've even seen it called a 'comforting' scent --this checks off that selective warmth aspect. It is also described as a scent that is 'masculine', invoking bravado, sexiness, mysteriousness, etc. I chose it for Andy because the fragrance seems to bring to mind a kind of edgy [roflmao!] vibe, ambition, yet quiet strength. Definitely the type of scent that you want flowing in your room if you want to give off 'wears expensive suits 24/7'. Like, dang that bih successful!

Jasmine: Jasmine seems to have it's own musky undertone but another reason it is delightful is because it has a bright vibe that - from what I read - definitely made me think of something akin to fresh cut grass ... something heady but delicate at the same time. Like a fragile, lonely man. I'm just kidding. Haha. Like a murderer who ears white suits. I've seen Jasmine associated with an alluring, gracious vibe. I picked it for Andy because it was connected to the words of decisiveness, sophistication, and empatheticness.

Ozone: I picked it because it has an 'atmospheric', kind of icy smell.. Andy is distant, introverted. That's as deep as I went with that one lol.

Musk: I considered going with white musk, because from what I gather is when it loses it's floral scent it just sorta smells fresh and clean. And I felt that would be a good mix with the ozone and jasmine --- however, though I liked the idea of one scent transforming to something else [maybe showing a true face?~] and Andy is clean in his attire, and he certainly presents himself as someone worth knowing [to have lingering around~ as it were], I decided to go the earthier way. Plus musk and tobacco seem to blend well and give off that smokiness~ I'd probably go with a more woody flavor of musk, something still fresh but more straightforward? IDK. I stopped looking into it ANYWAY, musk also evoke thoughts of warmth [lol], intensity yet reliable, someone enigmatic. Like tobacco it also gives that Boss vibe~

So, I feel an Andy candle is definitely the type of candle you would light on while studying for some intense test, get your head in the game while also not revving up your anxiety -- or maybe in the office of a CEO wert lmao.

I'm going to straight up and say the only oc of mine worse than Andy for F would be Kai. I cannot concept how it would or could happen. Farah is so MUCH in Kai's opinion: too loud, too bright, too childish and impatient, too refusing to get the sign to back off [in his opinion]. And I think Farah would be less endeared with Kai's NINETEEN PERCENT of people skills at the start of book 3 [and I think it gets worse].

I don't recall what Sera said F's stats are but I bet the way Kai leans heavily blue, Farah leans heavily red.

like look at this!:

farah would be the opposite! and it would just ... wertyujtres lmao. THOUGH I think the only MAYBE way it COULD happen would be because - funnily enough - because Mason. I could see Mason telling Kai to like ... chill. Kai isnt cruel but he is dismissive and at times too blunt; he prefers being straight-forward. If there options for him to shut down F in the story, he would take each and every one 34ertyrew /sobs. I think it would be a combination of Mason and ... I believe it was @/sewellheart who made a great point of the difference between Tina and F. Farah DOES know how to chill and can do her work, and is quite good at what she does. I think a combination of a few cases and the fact that his bff is basically her family ... might help.

Farah: You don't like me, do you? Kai: Nope. But I feel it would be a stretch to get there. Not IMPOSSIBLE [but nothing is impossible especially if i have a will is hall find a way! to do it icly too] But arguably a headache .... tho negl. I do think it could be cute. But I'm a sucker for cold/sunshine, grumpy/sunshine, stoic/sunshine and Kai is all three erew ROFLMAO.

And then from there it would go.

Goodness. Just thinking about those two wiped me out.

I put Kotsam and forgetting it's been a while since I played it lol. Like some dynamics are super clear and others ...

I think they could have fun. Kendis and Cyrus started on dislike, to wariness and respect, to being obsessed with each other ... no i joke. sorta. Leon for all his ego is infinitely chiller than the twins. I think Kendis and Leon would be catty but in a teasing, bratty kind of way -- they both like to have fun and they both are into fashion. I could see them being shopping buddies. The thing is Leon would have not to play games -- I remember what peaked Kendis' interest in Cyrus wa shim being like 'yo, dont get mixed up in cressy and leon's nonsense'. [wont go into the WHY, bc this aint about them. goodness! @ me lol.] And Kendis doesnt have patience for machinations; they dislike politics and double-speak and teen kendis is worst lol. Leon can also get pouty. So, if he can withstand them being like 'yo'.

I think they could maybe work. What Leon desires is someone on his side and Kendis is so that type and Kendis would want someone who sees them, who would choose her ... and I feel Leon can be that. If I remember his big romantic declaration correctly lol.

I can actually see them sorta like Astrid and Leon but .... less lol. And without the animosity. I could see them like fighting for the last dessert or something and squabbling and then even as theyre doing so theyre making room for the other.

Alana and Orion.

Orion would probably be the best person Alana has ever dated in her life. I think it could work just because Alana is VERY romantic and is a piner. lol. So, she could set for the long hall. He might prick at her heart with his seeming indifference but she has dealt through worst!! I think they would be so gross. LOL. I mean it's weird for me to think about, maybe i'd feel less so if I actually played it. And something tells me they would have foolish moments of misunderstandings made worse bc of the show ... but if they got past that? They would be so gross. Alana is very much DC's 'Cater 2 You' and Orion likes to dote. Just vomit. But in a way you cant fully be MAD about it bc its just lovely to see how into each other they are. Plus he would respect how diligent she is.

Kendis: Hmm. Respect the most? I don't know. I guess Tina and/or Verda? Because they know how hard Kendis works and how dogged they are once her mind is on a task. Tina also has the benefit of knowing Kendis for several years and Verda has that science connection. And he also knows the secret. Though he didn't appreciate it at first, I think it helped heighten his respect [and worry] for Kendis.

Val: Felix [and Adam if you take out the romance aspect, lol]. F is team detective no matter what [mostly]. And Felix is Val's best friend. He has seen their highs and lows the way no one else really has, I feel though Val is very close to Tina there is still a layer of jokes between them ... I think Felix thanks to his powers and perceptiveness sees through the core of Val in a way no one else can or tries to. I think Felix really admires that Val is sticking to it despite their initial distaste and distrust, and their continued wariness for the supernatural. I think Adam does too.

I feel both see past the stubbornness and laid-backness to someone who really cares. And honestly, I feel Felix also appreciates Val's 'playful in inappropriate moments' vibe.

Honorable mention for both Val and Kendis: Douglas Friedman lol

Hm. I guess. My first thoughts were the Verdas and Captain Sung. So, I'll go with the Verdas. I do think Kendis has a lot of respect for Elidor.

Kendis: Everyone loves Kendis. lol. Probably the Mayor.

Val: The Mayor. Maybe Nate. He's trying though. The two are making improvements -- Val and Nate. Not Nate and the Mayor

Which canon character does your OC not respect at all? Why?

Val: Bobby. ROFL. Bobby. Even more than Rebecca. It is BOBBY.

Had to slip Val in there because it was so obvious lmao. Val just dislikes everything Bobby stands on on principal. Val might be too awkward and maybe even too and too uncomfortable for the humanistic aspect of being a detective. They would pawn that off if they could. But they find the way Bobby uses people is heinous. They genuinely think he's a lowlife. And would debate spitting if he was on fire ... I mean they'd help but grumble the whole time lol.

Kendis: Must it be a CHARACTER? If not, the Agency. If so, probably Murphy. I don't know. Kendis as a whole doesn't have a lot of respect for a lot of people. It isn't personal. I think it is just their approach to it.

I think for Kendis respect has to be given as much as it has to be earned, I feel that is because respect is so easily abused but also because it is way to hook themselves into someone and vice versa, and that is like giving that person a certain power over them. Not to say Kendis doesn't have respect for people -- in a general sense. But Respect ... I guess is different. I don't want to say deferentialness ... because it is Kendis but I suppose ... more open to giving exceptions beyond the general basic respect.

Homie. I thought you like Felix!

Andy does not like Felix. And Felix tries -- in my mind. Because parts of Andy reminds him of Nate and Adam. I think .... though this would have to be two ways: Felix coming MUCH earlier and he meets a younger Andy. But an early 20s Andy would probs be why Felix his complex, because I don't see them becoming friends with Andy the way he was at that age. He was more brash and more outwardly Andy. The best Andy would be Teen Andy, so Felix would have to come earlier AND younger. The other POSSIBLE option is book 4, that talk about Felix's mom. They could bond about legacy, responsibilities, and loving their mom. I feel that conversation did serve to ... lessen Andy's dislke of Felix's personality. I think bc he got to see a different side? I'm sure he saw shadows .... when he bothered to look, but it wasn't enough to draw him in. It would be so snail paced. But it would be friends to lovers. I feel the vibe ... actually it makes me think of @/delucadarling fanfic. That Farah teasing Adam and Adam pretending to be unaffected but will tear at anyone that made Farah so much as sniffle? Yeah. But Felix would have to be determined to go through despite knowing how much it would hurt. I think Andy, if he wasnt the detective would skip town in hopes Felix would move on because he really would hate being one of those who hurt him. BUT he also treats Felix as an adult, because he is. As protective as this Andy would be, he would be clear -- he'd be constantly telling felix he is NOT a good person. A mess really.

Ori and Orion.

Goodness. I think it would heavily press on Ori's insecurities because Ori is a goof and Orion is very serious and expects so somuch. And he would always feel like he's fucking up. But Ori would take things seriously, and Orion would appreciate that. I think Orion would have a softer approach for Ori as they got to know each other and find him funny - despite himself. He'd also let Ori know he wasnt a fuck up. 'Mr. Zhou doe snot know how to react -- awkward crab walk out the room' moment. Alternatively, I think Ori would be good for Orion. Get him to just be SILLY and have FUN. I think they would balance each other and be just the person to defend the other against those who have hurt them/be there for the other in the aftermath of that.

It would have nicks and bumps and bruises along the way but it might well be worth it. It certainly wouldn't be ANDY AND FELIX.

Kendis and Halsin.

It could work actually. But it would be a rough start. Mostly because Kendis' pride roflmao. Fun fact, neither of my druids like Halsin. I don't remember why entirely -- but I do know Kendis COULD mellow out with time. Probably because of the shadowlands arc, his regrets, how he is about thaniel, his trauma. His anger. The thing is earlier, I recall Halsin says something snippy ... or in a sorta dismissve/condescending tone and Kendis bristles -- bc first of all how dare you, second of all that legit wasnt how they ment it!

I would love to say it would just be a matter of Halsin not saying the wrong thing or I guess Kendis not scratching up against snarky Halsin but .... how long could either of them avoid that? I don't know if it would last though .... Kendis finds him too moralistic -- and that kicks up a few other problems lol.

38. Fido? And it would be a cat. I don't even know. We had birds but I don't think we named them. Maybe that's why they died -- indignity. Well, that and other reasons. But if I had a cat ... Basil? The Great Cat Detective.
