THEY ARE THRIFT STORE PUNKS AND THEY'RE PERFECT AND I LOVE THEM and it would be love at first sight if I met either of them in person.

I really wanted to draw something for @grindel-works​ for her birthday which was… a while ago… (does time even matter anymore? let’s just say it does not) and when I was trying to think of things she liked, I came up with RenRuki being shy nerfball fashion disasters, so here you go. I hope you like it! Please imagine, if you will, Renji lovingly Sharpie-ing those Zabi-stripes onto his kicks.

Also, I want to note that I employed actual proportions in this drawings, a thing I have never tried before. They are both scaled to their respective heights, and I made Renji 8 heads tall, because he’s tall, and Rukia is 7 heads high, because she’s a smol. I think it turned out pretty good!

I've been catching up on reading the reworked version of "The Nightmare Begins" by @the—calamity on ao3 (linked below) and wouldn't you know it, I'm once again obsessed with drawing Lucrecia. She's a feminist icon and I won't be elaborating. The quotes in the piece are taken from chapters 10 and 12 of “The Nightmare Begins”.

"Twice" - Little Dragon

A couple months ago Calamity and I had a thought provoking chat on the complexities and responsibilities of the self regarding trauma, the expectations of womanhood and the costs of motherhood, and the ethics of enduring versus damaging and how those behaviors tie into gender in various layered ways. I've greatly simplified these concepts here but if these are themes that interest you, then I ten thousand fold recommend the series @the—calamity has written on ao3 titled “The Monsters Within” (linked below). These ideas are all innate to Calamity's works and are explored and unraveled with horrific wonder that is at once disturbing, healing, and heart wrenchingly human.

As for the drawing well… here we have Lucrecia, a complicated woman both precise and messy in her approach to life. I love her character and especially love her characterization in Calamity’s works. So this is another one for you friend!

Here's the sketch of the Lucy drawing I just posted as well as an alternate color version with no background details. I actually really like the flatter, more stripped down color version Seems more retro or something. The sketch also has a haunted, desperate energy about it; I imagine Vincent scribbling living studies of Lucrecia, such as this one, into a small notepad whenever able, catching her unawares while in contemplation. @the—calamity what do you think? Plausible? ;)

And I didn’t mean to make Lucy’s shirt blue like her DoC counterpart but she does just look so beautiful in blue so oh well.

I'm relatively new to digital art so in my process video you'll see me messing around with quite a lot of stuff hahaha. It's been fun learning though.

What do you think about Ruka x Zero potentially?? I've been giving it a lot of thought..Things would have had to play out differently in the original series for this to work, seeing as how limited their interaction was. But I personally love Ruka's character and could see her meeting Zero's needs better than Yuuki longterm. Idk tho. I need to daydream about it more before I attempt a story/fanfic. What do you think about the logistics of this?

While I think Ruka is the type of woman who would make a perfect wife for any man in the series, I honestly don’t think Zero would do much for her. Zero’s too moody and passive–his archetype is very similar to Kain, who I don’t think is a good fit for her. Her character probably needs a pushy younger guy (not an Aidou-type), someone who’s a charmer and a rebel who can make her laugh and remove a bit of that strict strait-jacket she wears as a protective cloak around herself. 

But if you want to write Ruka and Zero as a pairing, I’d say go for it. ;) She certainly would be a maternal and nurturing presence that would be very good for him, and perhaps in your writing you’ll find some aspects of his personality that help her relax too. =)

I had started this drawing last year and had taken a long break from it due to life and grief and other things (kind of forgetting about it tbh...). But I'm so happy I found it and finally finished it up. I had a lot of fun playing with layers of color and material. I used pen, sharpie, water colors, colored pencils, and some white acrylic paint for highlights. I would really like to explore this style of my artwork more and am looking forward to doing just that. 😌 I made prints of this piece to gift to some close friends and family but may invest in more for public purchase when the stars align right. 💫

Finally finished Jinx. Gosh I love her so much. 💙💣💥 I tried to give her a dynamic background to stand in which was lots of fun. Had some troubles getting her blue braids to pop but I got there eventually (or at least improved them trust me). Anyone have any Jinx-y songs to recommend? Trying to make a playlist. I recommend "Melancholy" by Rezz.
