Honestly frustrating as a nonbinary person to have someone try to correct me about my own gender. I’ll refer to myself as a girlie girl or a grown ass man and every time someone feels the need to jump in and say “but you’re not a girl!!” or “but you’re not a man!!” Or someone will call me girl as slang and immediately apologize. I try really hard not to yuck on yum or like, judge, but I just don't understand the appeal of people writing or reading stories that are like... just suffering and that's it. Like, it's just misery. There's no payoff, there's no catharsis, it's just misery and more misery and I just -

Normally it doesn't bug me, but of course an annoyingly large proportion of people writing fics for one of my favorite characters insist on writing these kinds of stories and like - why? I'm not asking for happy fluff endings here, but like - just misery after misery? What's the fucking point?

I get that darkfic speaks to some people, I do, and I do like dark stories (of certain flavors), but I just - I like the darkness to be worth something, to have meant something, the suffering to be more than suffering for it's own sake, and some people just...

I don't fucking get it. And like, the authors aren't bad people for this particular choices of writing, not at all, but - ffs, wtf?

The specific genre is romance/action/weird. The fact one of the characters will die badly if he's not constantly with his soulmate due to a curse is like. Important and problem causer but not what the story is about.

How much do you need to know about why the curse is and how it works to just vibe with the story basically.
