The Power of Shared Negative Experiences
How Collective Grievances Can Sour Memories and Harm Communities Negative experiences, whether personal or communal, have a profound impact on our emotional well-being. The process of sharing these experiences can be therapeutic, but when it evolves into a collective movement driven by negativity, it can lead to unintended consequences. Specifically, when one individual’s negative experience…

i mean I guess I get it I didn't care about this stuff till I interned under a brilliant polymer scientist with a genuinely infectious passion for the work but like it's all so interesting to me now. silk is soft because of a protein coating its strands that will break down under heat, stress and tension, so hand wash it.. polyacrylic is usually very durable and mimics the properties of wool well but the higher end of washing machine temperatures can start to edge up on its transition temperatures so wash it warm-at-most. polyester is tough and tumble but it's also hydrophobic (thank you benzene ring!) (it's also thus lipophilic meaning oils and bacteria can get "sucked into it") so use an enzyme wash to get out the "trapped smells" and actually clean it.. wool usually comes with a layer of oils from its growth that makes it partially hydrophobic while also being hydrophilic on the inside, making it possible that it will trap bacteria like polyester, use an enzyme wash but be careful it doesn't have cellulase if cotton thread was also used in the product
#so much of this stems from like stuff you learn week 1 when working with polymers#long carbon chains = hydrophobic. add polar groups = hydrophilic.#methylation increases rigidity and reduces porosity

An interesting discovery was that these Inuit had implements made of iron, which, they said, came from a mountain about twentyfive miles from Ross's ships. A sample taken home proved to be of meteoric origin. Nearly eighty years later, the American explorer Robert Peary found the "mountain," which was in fact three meteorites, the largest of which weighed nearly forty tons. He took them back to the United States, justifying this theft of legendary relics on the grounds that the Inuit could now get iron from traders, and the meteorites were later sold to the American Museum of Natural History.
Man, c'mon.
#damn#polar pioneers#i love that they had Space Rock tools#thats so cool#i wonder if having that ore was of great benefit#and how long had the meteorites been there?#thousands of years?#millions maybe?#the circumstances of this group of people living in that area#and finding those meteorites is so neat

making a mental note if I ever make it up to Dundee to scope out possible places on Discovery to put a square set for the lancers. I have, in my life, been On Boats and they're not generally known for large areas of open decking. maybe the wardroom table folded away? this is going to be my niche and specific bugbear I think
I'm in general very interested in dancing in single-gender spaces, especially all-male spaces - even in modern social dance circles, there's this assumption that the ideal partnership is m/f, and of course women won't mind dancing together if the numbers don't work out but it's Too Much for men to do the same if that's how the numbers go (obviously this has changed over time, but even in ~2018 when I first started dancing with my current group, people would kindly offer to break up their f/f partnership so I (male(ish)-presenting) wouldn't 'have to' dance with a man), so there's an element of petty vindication in pointing at historical dancing and going 'well it didn't seem to bother them in 1903'. Especially when, as here, the fact of dancing in m/m pairs isn't even remarked upon, just 'we had a song or two, then a set of lancers and then more songs' (p.266).
#it's not that all my interests must converge#it's just that when there's overlap in the venn diagram I get very. shall we say. focused.#(anyway if anyone has more information on where you can fit eight dancers on discovery hmu)#(I did find a vid of a scottish group doing it which gives me hope of persuading my lot to do it at some point#but alas it does remain Very Long and Not Very Interesting from a dancer's perspective)#(even if you do get to do a frankly ridiculous amount of birling which *is* very fun)#polar exploration#kind of#for blog-tidying purposes at least#lol @ myself for putting a page number in but no book title. of course I will not remember what I was reading in even a week's time#but it's Wilson's Discovery diary

Polarization of the Carbonyl Group
-- Carbonyl group:
-- The oxygen has two lone pairs
-- The oxygen is more electronegative than the carbon
-- The polarization arrow will show electrons being pulled toward the oxygen
-- The carbon is partially positive
-- Partially positive = δ+
-- The oxygen is partially negative
-- Partially negative = δ-
-- These symbols go by the arrow
-- The polarization makes the boiling points of aldehydes and ketones higher than hydrocarbons
-- The larger the carbonyl group, the less soluble it is in water
-- If it has more than six carbons, it is insoluble

Read Fang the Hunter after catching up on idw Sonic and like
Wooo!! Return of Fang, his pursedog jester boytoy, and said boytoy's big buddy!

Also ajsjsjsn I'm this close to retitling this mini series "How to Lose One's Bitches: A Cautionary Tale as to Why Team Hooligan Isn’t a Modern Era Team"

Bean using pet names on Fang?#Bean being like “the only reason we stick with you is because it's fun. you need us. get us a good job or we're gone'#All in all I suppose I kind of expected Bean to have more power in this group partnership than he seems (given how he acted in Archie Sonic#and how he got when Nack wouldn't give him attention)#But I guess it didn't fully hit me until Bean made it clear that he and Bark are the forever duo that only take Fang as their third as long#as Fang gives them attention and excitement#And 'big buddy'?#The big buddy effect is now the spiritual twin of the little buddy effect. Largely the same as the little buddy effect except the 'buddy' in#question is clearly the protector and the muscle

Leaping from perhaps the hottest continent to the coldest, with the prompt “POLAR”. I have a soft spot for polar bears, so I knew they’d be the focus. Plus I was determined to include those beautiful ice caves.

Cho Chang Headcanons
Was in a polyamorous relationship with her friend group of "giggling girlfriends"
Bisexual and ambiamorous
Has a very "coquette" style
Knows how to play the piano
Not much of a flirt, will try to win your heart in different ways
Stayed very close friends with Marietta and the rest of her friend group even after Hogwarts
Cho's favorite flower was the peony
Her favorite season was summer
Cho's favorite animal was the polar bear and it makes her sad that their population is declining
Her hair is naturally very soft to the touch
Had a pet spider named Webs once
Her favorite color was teal
Cho was incredibly skilled in all sorts of spells, and she exceeded in Charms class
Was very independent, not meek and dependent at all
#cho chang#harry potter#star's headcanons#i don't understand why she's so hated#:/#get behind me cho chang#quickly cho#i'll protect you#jkr thought that her calling cho's friend group cho's “giggling girlfriends” wouldn't trigger something like this#lol everytime her friend group was kissing each other and doing other romantic stuff everyone thought it was platonic#she literally cries over the polar bears#cho would rock the coquette style tho#i fucking hate that jkr makes cho so meek and dependent#it makes me want to throw something at a wall

Its so wild to me that a lot of people don't know much about animals. It's interesting, too. Especially because of course everyone thinks they know a lot more about stuff than they do. (The curve. I forget what its called. You know, the curve.)
Like I remember a while ago seeing a video that wasnt good, it was a cougar or something in someone's house just hanging out. And people in the notes were like:
Actually 🤓☝️ this is fine! The op said they rescued it. It's not like they just bought one. It's fine this grizzly bear is eating French fries in someone's living room.
Like... honey nooo. No. A good wildlife rescuers does not keep bears or lions or whatever in their house casually roaming around. Even if by chance they DID take that animal from a worse situation, it's still not rescued yet. There's so much there to get into.
That sort of thing peeves me a little more than general unawareness. Cause its like, they were concerned, but then blindly listened to what they heard the op had said. You need to critically think when you see videos like that.
So that annoys me more than those people who don't know anything at all about animals going "aww look at this cute video of a fox and a cat playing together"
#okay but there was ONE funny video#dogs playing with a polar bear and the story was that the polar bear kept following the dogs afterwards#people going 'aww unexpected friendship between a giant predator and a little doggy!! the bear is following cause he wants to see his friend#s and play with them again“#like. okay no THAT one is just so bizzare its fucking funny.#the best friend group of 5 adult lionesses and a small weak gazelle#its okay :3 that hawk is carrying that rabbit away to play together!
