Yeah I getcha. I was once like you. Pure and naive. Great news. I AM STILL PURE AND NAIVE, GAME DEV IS FUN! But where to start?

To start, here are a couple of entry level softwares you can use! source: I just made a game called In Stars and Time and people are asking me how to start making vidy gaems. Now, without further ado:

Bitsy: Little topdown games! ✨Pros: It's free! It's simple! It's (somewhat) intuitive! It has great documentation! It can be used even if you have LITERALLY no programming experience! You can make everything in it, from text to sprites to code! Those games sure are small! ✨Cons: Those games sure are small. This is to make THE simplest game. Barely any animation for your sprites, can barely fit a line of text in there. But honestly, the restrictions are refreshing! Some games to look at: honestly I haven't played that many bitsy games because i am a fake gamer. The picture above is from Under A Star Called Sun though and that looks so pretty

RPGMaker: To make RPGs! LIKE ME!!!!! NOTE: I recommend getting the latest version if you can, but all have their pros and cons. You can get a better idea by looking at this post. ✨Pros: Literally everything you need to make an RPG. Has a tutorial inside the software itself that will teach you the basics. Pretty simple to understand, even if you have no coding experience! Also I made a post helping you out with RPGMaker right here! ✨Cons: Some stuff can be hard to figure out. Also, the latest version is expensive. Get it on sale! Some games to look at: Yume Nikki, Hylics, In Stars and Time (hehe. I made it)

engine.lol: collage worlds! it is relatively new so I don't know much about it, but it seems fascinating. picture is from Garden! NOTE: There's a bunch of smaller engines to find out there. Just yesterday I found out there's an Idle Game Maker made by the Cookie Clicker creator. Isn't life wonderful?

ENGINES I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT AND THEY SEEM HARD BUT ALSO GIVE IT A TRY I GUESS!!!! :

Unity and Unreal: I don't know anything about those! That looks hard to learn! But indie devs use them! It seems expensive! Follow your dreams though! Don't ask me how!

GameMaker: Wuh I just don't know anything about it either! I just know it's now free if your game is non-commercial (aka, you're not selling it), and Undertale was made on it! It seems good! You probably need some coding experience though!!!

Godot: Man I know even less about this one. Heard good things though!

BUNCHA RANDOM ADVICE!!!!

-Make something small first! Try making simple: a character is in a room, and exits the room. The character can look around, decide to take an item with them, can leave, and maybe the door is locked and you have to find the key. Figuring out how to code something like that, whether it is as a fully text-based game or as an RPGMaker map, should be a good start to figure out how your software of choice works!

-After that, if you have an idea, try first to make the simplest version of that idea. For my timeloop RPG, my simplest version was two rooms: first room you can walk in, second room with the King, where a cutscene automatically plays and the battle starts, you immediately die, and loop back to the first room, with the text from this point on reflecting this change. I think I also added a loop counter. This helped me figure out the most important thing: Can This Game Be Made? After that, the rest is just fun stuff. So if you want to make a dating sim, try and figure out how to add choices, and how to have affection points go up and down depending on your choices! If you want to make a platformer, figure out how to make your character move and jump and how to create a simple level! If you just want to make a kinetic visual novel with no choices, figure out how to add text, and how to add portraits! You'll be surprised at how powerful you'll feel after having figured even those simple things out.

-If you have a programming problem or just get confused, never underestimate the power of asking Google! You most likely won't be the only person asking this question, and you will learn some useful tips! If you are powerful enough, you can even… Ask people??? On forums??? Not me though.

-Yeah I know you probably want to make Your Big Idea RIGHT NOW but please. Make a smaller prototype first. You need to get that experience. Trust me.

-If you are not a womanthing of many skills like me, you might realize you need help. Maybe you need an artist, or a programmer. So! Game jams on itch.io are a great way to get to work and meet other game devs that have different strengths! Or ask around! Maybe your artist friend secretly always wanted to draw for a game. Ask! Collaborate! Have fun!!!

"dunk tank" behind the scenes

part 1: inspiration

ever since we first got teased of the possibility of killing painter, i have been sitting back and watching in amusement at the fanbase’s reaction to this information.

… and taking rigorous notes

there are people who are convinced that they’re never going to kill him. there are people who cannot WAIT to bash in his screen. and, there are the people who would like to spare him, but care more about getting the badge and aren’t afraid to admit it.

killing painter has become one of the most divisive topics in the fandom. case & point, this poll in the community server from back in April about which choice people would make, split almost exactly down the middle with “kill painter” winning by a mere 1%

if you take in the amount of people on the server who didn’t know this poll existed (myself included) as well as the people who play the game without being in the server, my guess is that the actual ratio of people who’d kill vs. spare painter is likely higher.

but keep in mind: the poll question is “would you kill or spare painter,” not “do you like painter or hate him.”

nearly half of the people who voted chose to spare painter, and the people who voted to kill him INCLUDES the people who are just doing it for the badge.

ok my point is that overall the fandom likes the guy despite how crazy we are about his death.

that got me thinking of the themes of Undertale, even more so now with the new Deltarune chapters out. the completionist instinct we have in Pressure is similar to what we have in Undertale, but that game fleshes it out more by giving it a name: Determination.

the difference is, Undertale doesn’t have badges for making specific choices. we only make these choices because we have to see what happens when we do.

in pressure, this is also true, except here our motivations are mainly driven by those empty badge slots waiting to be filled. doing these things for the experience, but also the reward

and it’s not hard for us to do annoying or harmful things to the characters to get the badges, because at the end of the day they’re fictional. yes, we love them, but all they can really do is whatever has been implemented in the game.

that got me wondering how these guys would react to knowingly being on the receiving end of our crazed antics. understandably, not very well. 

i had the idea of painter overhearing the players talking about the update, and that’s how the script for dunk tank started!

man, idk if i can describe the Undertale dream I had last night... but i'm going to try, and it's a long one:

It started out as me playing an entirely different (fictional) game, but next thing i knew a glitch sent my character out-of-bounds or something like that. I tried to reset, but instead of going back to that game, it flicked through alternate Undertale timelines every time a reset was attempted. I don't remember what most of these were like, aside from largely being role swap AUs--one featured a confident Alphys who had seemingly put her soul in a robot body, and was happy to see me/my character because we could potentially help her research this weird timeline stuff she'd noticed...

how many times you could go back was limited, so eventually things got stuck in a timeline that was quite different from the normal game--and then i/my character left normal game space entirely and entered what seemed like the storage area for like... an appliance store? Idk, there were fridges and furniture and other junk scattered around--yes, very backrooms, i know. But my POV character wasn't the only one down there.

They found dozens of other monsters that had fallen out of the assorted timelines and ended up in this strange space. Most were random NPCs, but several were versions of the main Undertale cast. I recall two Mettatons who were dating each other, and an Undyne who filled Toriel's role in her original world. Sans was there too, seated on a couch, but... I tried to say hi to him, and got no reply. It seemed the whole experience had essentially broken him, and the only thing he cared about was making sure the Papyrus next to him hadn't Fallen Down--even though it was swap!Papyrus, and not his original brother.

In fact, there were seemingly no other Papyruses at all (though i don't remember there being any Asgores or Toriels either, ahah.). But as the group of lost monsters started moving to try and find a way out or get some answers, another monster appeared: Gaster. Though, he looked like he was wearing a paper-mache mask--it had that lumpy, papery texture, but no eyes or mouth... And apparently, all these disappearances were his doing. But he promised he had his reasons, and if we followed him we'd find out who he was and why he was doing this. So of course the crowd rushed to follow him down a corridor that got progressively more... unfinished looking, like the garbage area where Spamton lurks, with blocks of missing pixels. It looked unsafe, but i was excited to see what all this was leading to. i just had to follow him around the corner...!

And then I woke up.

Yep. Trolled by my own brain. this isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened to me either--I've had several dreams where i was going to learn some incredible secret, only to wake up moments before the reveal. So, now you can share my disappointment too, but I guess I didn't clairvoyantly reveal spoilers for Deltarune XD

I played Undertale recently. My favorite character is Chara. No, I didn't kill anybody. I am going to go on about them, now.

Spoilers for Undertale, all the routes. "It came out nearly a decade ago!" Yeah and I first played it last week and was happily surprised by the sheer amount of things I hadn't been spoiled on, so. Have a courtesy warning! Also courtesy warning: Too many fucking words. I'm sorry.

As a preface: Undertale really genuinely touched me. I bring this up as a preface because I think it's important to why it is exactly I feel how I feel, and that is important to how I perceived Chara.

And it having such an impact honestly surprised me; Undertale seemed cute and fun but silly and something I had felt… prepared for? Like, inadvertently, from hearing about it and its characters for so long. And for some parts early on, I was, at least in part. I liked Sans and Papyrus from the start, but in the way that I liked a gimmick, and it took time for the enjoyment to get more and more… not genuine, it already was, but I can't find the word I'm looking for. I guess it struck me with less artificiality? It started actually getting to me. This was happening throughout the whole length of things, like, I really genuinely liked Toriel basically from the start, but the farther in I got the more it was happening. Actually, looking back, the intro cinematic really hit for me in a way that should have clued me in that this game was going to get me.

Because I really connected with Chara as the character I was playing as, to an extent that honestly really surprised me? It felt emotionally resonant. Admittedly, naming Chara the way that I did probably did a fair amount of lifting there; I used a nickname of mine that isn't used that often. I think that hit more than it would have if I had used one of my first names, since it was distant enough to easily have differentiation while also close enough to feel so immediately personal. Chara is someone where most things with them are up to interpretation, but I just had a specific interpretation readily and naturally come to me.

Of course, I knew the Chara and Frisk distinction beforehand, and that informed my interpretation pretty heavily; but I hadn't really heard much of anything about Chara other than the Genocide Route stuff, prior. I mostly saw them treated as like some pure evil nasty may-as-well-have-been-demon. I hadn't been reading like narraChara theories or anything (amazing name, 10/10 whoever coined it). I just landed there naturally. When Undertale was giving the early hints that Chara had actually come before the human you played as, like in the garbage dump, it only amplified those feelings.

My read was that I as the player I was, largely, controlling Frisk's actions, but seeing Chara's thoughts. Every time I saw or heard memories, they were Chara's. But I don't think Chara was in control of the body or anything. I think Chara was there tagging along as an observer, at first not sure what exactly was happening or understanding why; but linked to Frisk's SOUL and so having Frisk's feelings resonate through them. So, they decided to help. They not only lent their lingering Determination but also just tried to help Frisk stay determined in the normal sense. But that was what they were doing: Not acting, but watching Frisk's actions and feeling their feelings.

And in my playthrough, Frisk was a dogged pacifist who was very reluctant to even slightly hurt anyone and very willing to put themselves into terrible danger because of that. And I think seeing that, feeling the feelings behind it resonating with them, made Chara a better person. A profoundly better person. Just in itself, the way it would anyone, but… Here's an example of the best of humanity, that same humanity they despised. Here's someone willing to refuse violence even if it puts them at risk of dying, even actually dying once before they discovered they could LOAD even after death, if they remained determined. Someone who again and again and again takes attacks and doesn't fight back unless it's absolutely necessary, who sees a whole people that have time and time again just tried to callously kill them and keeps choosing to help them. To trust them, and reach out to them, again and again and again, and who each time is proven right. Even when there's nothing to reach out to but dead human children whose SOULs had been absorbed for power by an entity whose power was represented in their SAVE by the highest numbers expressible there.

I think seeing all of that really challenged Chara's worldview in general and view of humanity in particular. I think they understood that they had been wrong, and done wrong.

And then Frisk goes back one more time to set things right and save everyone. Chara is there experiencing what Frisk is feeling as they go through that lab, as they learn about Determination... when they find those videotapes and learn about how Chara died intentionally, hoping to wreak violence on humanity and then break the Barrier. And Chara learns that Flowey was their adoptive brother, all along. Sees with what must be horror what has become of sweet little Asriel, knowing that this only happened because of then. Understanding what Asriel chose in the end, why he chose it, and now seeing what trying to make up for that 'mistake' had done to him. And Chara sees Frisk try so hard to save him, even after everything he's done, just because he's another person. And Chara does everything they can to help Frisk, together mustering enough Determination to deny death itself, as many times as needed, until Frisk does it. Reaches out to Asriel and helps him to get over what happened enough to stop fighting, to start to heal, to give up on godhood... To use a moment of unity to bring down the Barrier without needing to hurt anyone else.

And Chara watched their brother realize that Frisk isn't them, and that that is good. That Frisk is a better person, and one whom Asriel wishes he could have had in his life before, as he admits to himself that Chara wasn't a good person. And Chara lets go. They let Frisk and everyone else go to their happy ending, while they stay behind.

And then Asriel and Chara have one last moment, in the game. Chara comes back and Asriel, even once again lacking a SOUL, cares enough about everyone else to ask Chara to let them be happy, to not tear them away from everything. But Asriel doesn't trust Chara, and so asks that if they are going to rip them out of their happy ending… do it to him too. Don't make him sit through everything repeating. Don't make him become deadened all over again by seeing everything play out over and over and over again in countless variations. And then he imagines that this exchange has happened again and again and again and Chara must be tired of hearing it. Because that is what Chara would do, isn't it?

But Chara doesn't say anything. Maybe they can't, maybe they just choose not to. Instead, they let their brother say goodbye to them. And then they choose to let go. Chara couldn't be the one to save Asriel; it had to be Frisk. Once Frisk has... What waits for them and their brother… I don't know. But I hope they can be happy. I hope they got their closure. And, maybe vainly, I hope they can find some way to have each other again, but healthily this time. But that's for them, not for me. Maybe one or both choose to let go entirely and fade away, return to the death that had once taken them. All I've got is hopes for the future of these people that aren't even real.

Immersion is a powerful thing, huh?

So, about the Genocide Route. There's a lot of characterization for Chara there, and some for Asriel too. I know people tend to read the Genocide Route as Chara taking Frisk over and unleashing their preexisting violent impulses, but I really don't think that's right. I don't think that route shows what Chara was like before much at all. I think the Genocide Route is what happens when Chara finds themselves brought back from the pall of death, given some sort of second chance, and all they can do in it is watch Frisk murder everyone they encounter. When they see their mother get murdered in cold blood, and can feel how little Frisk cared about her while doing it. When all they can feel when it happens is that sick sense of pleasure at an accomplishment. When they're forced to find some kind of meaning in that, some reason for why they were brought back and made to be complicit in this, some purpose to this existence.

And they find it. They find it in their idea of numerical invincibility, and they cling to it. And they are abraded down until all that's left of them is their worst impulses stripped of context, magnified, and then redefined under the light of this 'purpose'… and that sick sense of accomplishment. More and more, Chara wears down to this thing that only cares about power and violence, and more and more Chara loses their sense of distinction from Frisk, sees these actions as their own; or maybe they become more and more able to exert control of the actions as they redefine themselves to be better at wielding power. Either way, Chara murders their father. Chara murders their brother. Then Chara destroys humanity, not even out of hatred, but simply for the sake of power. They destroy all the monsters they missed, too. Only power matters; the gaining of it, and also the exercise of it for its own sake. The only thing they don't destroy is Frisk, their reliable partner, the one who showed them their purpose. The one they are perversely grateful to, but will betray the moment it suits them, now that they have the power to do so.

I've heard a lot about how this is criticism of RPG players, and I can see that but more and more I don't think that the purpose of this is to moralize, or at least that that's not the only purpose. Because this shows Chara become their worst self, this epitome of power in a husk of a person. Someone who wasn't a great person from the start falls to horrific depths. And then they can't climb back out. You can't help them out. Chara defines themselves as Numbers Go Up because after all this trauma from the first moment that their plan went awry and Asriel held back their powers, and they both died a second time… All they have refuge in is that belief in invincibility. Chara believes you can escape suffering if you become the strongest thing in the world. And so Chara does just that. And it's all they can hold onto, because it's the only thing holding them together.

But really they're just another lost soul who you no longer have the power to save or comfort or bring positive emotions to, someone tricking themselves into thinking they're an unfeeling demon beyond sentimentality just to feel like they have some control, so they can delight in exercising power over others without guilt or regret.

Frisk can give them their SOUL and Chara doesn't change, doesn't really feel anything more, no matter what Frisk shows them. Because they've closed their heart to those feelings. You can't take this back. You can't save them. They're the only person you can't save. Sometimes, when you hurt people you make them worse and you can't be the one to help them after that. And you can't cheat. Whatever you do… Chara remembers it. You can't just take it back, can't do it over. You can only look on in horror at what Chara has become and accept or deny your fault in it.

In the Pacifist Route… I think Chara feels something like that when learning that Flowey was Asriel all along, and knowing it was their fault.

It's easy to blame what Asriel became on the lack of his SOUL. But I really believe that's not what it was. Maybe that does dull feelings, but you don't need a SOUL to love, to care. We see that, with Asriel-as-Flowey asking Chara to leave the others to their happy ending. We can see it in how Chara, at their worst, gets a SOUL and gets no better. How Chara, with a SOUL, does not understand the sentimentality still held by the player who has already given up theirs. Flowey didn't become a monster because of the lack of his SOUL. He was a traumatized little kid who couldn't get his life back, couldn't get his sibling back, but had the power to evade consequences and abused it to try and cope until it further wore down his ability to care. So he retreated to seeing things as less than real to cope with it all, resorted to cruelty and vindictiveness just to feel something.

Where Asriel as Flowey makes a performative show of his petty cruelty and vindictiveness, Chara dresses it up with dispassion and a veneer of objective judgement. But, deep down? They're the same. If you don't let yourself feel anything you can't be hurt.

The Genocide Route isn't some creepypasta about a demon taking over an innocent. Nothing so convenient as that. Because the point is that you choose to do it. You do it, and you choose it every step of the way, and only at the very very end does it become too late to turn back. So it fits it better, I think, if it's not about Chara corrupting Frisk... But about you corrupting Chara. Whether that you is Frisk, or you the player, you make someone who was a bad person to start with so much worse.

Asriel was pressured and manipulated by Chara and became a worse person for it, and then retreated to the toxic ideology of "kill or be killed" to cope with that and further trauma, as well as denying his own emotionality in an attempt to make himself invincible. And in the Genocide Route, Chara does the exact same fucking thing. A different toxic ideology, that the only thing that matters is acquiring power, a different mask to deny their emotions which is impassive rather than irreverent, but so similar. Beat for beat. Even down to the fact that Asriel still idolized the person who hurt him, considered them special, the only person worth caring about: Chara wants you to come with them to conquer and destroy new worlds, considers you the perfect partner, doesn't kill you even when you try to resist them, even keeps remaking the world for you when you ask despite already getting your SOUL the first time. You showed them the truth of their existence, after all, even without meaning to. Just as Chara showed Asriel that this world is kill or be killed, even without meaning to.

So… Knowing that all of this could happen…

It adds a lot, I think, to the Pacifist Ending. To Chara getting better, growing as a person and helping everyone, learning they were wrong about the world and humanity, and letting power go. Letting Frisk go. Letting everyone go. Hearing out Asriel's grievances with what they did and accepting them. Just being happy that Asriel could be saved along with everyone else, before the end, despite the negative impact they had had on him and how coming back as a flower no one recognized as him fucked him up even worse.

I just like those two poor siblings, and can't help but be sympathetic to somebody young making a nasty plan with good intentions but without a real appreciation for what they were doing. I am so glad that such a tragic and awful thing got better the way it did, amidst everyone else getting their happy ending. And I think Chara just gets me so much because they become so much better than they were to begin with, and because I felt I was there with them. Immersion is a powerful thing. But maybe even more than that... It's that Frisk doesn't save Chara. Frisk can't save Chara. Frisk can just give Chara the chance they needed to save themselves.

starting my full replay of deltarune and I just finished replaying the first chapter and I kinda want to blab thoughts on what the specifics of the player's control might be as far as we know

some spoilers for chapter 3 and 4? (i probably missed stuff in those chapters to help with this discussion tho. so. take that for what you will) (mainly showing screenshots from ch 1)

I'm wondering if it's divided on who controls what

So like:

Player: While our soul is possessing Frisk, we obviously control all of their movements and what they interact with. We choose between options when a question is presented to us.

Kris: They get back control when they remove us, but they are weaker/have less stamina, and maybe have other effects. I'm guessing that since we've seen them walk both slow and fast without the player that walking slow (like in ch 1 and 2) that preserves more energy. And seeing that if we spend too long trying to get to Dess's guitar in Chapter 4, they actually can get so tired from trying to wack us that they have to take a long breather.

Outside of when they've removed us tho, it's less clear? So, they can control how they SAY things after we choose an option yeah? They can still manage to control how they come off like, they won't let us make them say "Of Course Not" they'll change it to "Of Course." Instead of serious "I'll join" to Berdly, it's incredulous iirc.

Aside from that I think they have a bit more control after we interact with something since I remember times in the game where once we initiate, they are able to move and talk to a certain amount. Like, we make the choice "It's okay not to smile" they then hug Ralsei. They step in to protect Susie (in a cutscene i believe?) in chapter 1. In general I think once there is a cutscene they regain more control.

I think where it's a bit less clear is Who narrates the text you get when you interact with something and Who gives the dialogue options. I think it's a situation where BOTH the player and Kris have influence here.

Because simultaneously we have moments where the choices are aware we have (most likely) played undertale with first Sans interaction, and we make kris act like they haven't seen a card they've WROTE in before. But there are also moments that HAD to have been influenced by Kris since they give us insight into what WE can't see, what WE couldn't have known before.

Namely times when we are in Noelle's house in chapter 4 and Kris hints at previous times in their childhood that we wouldn't have been privy to otherwise.They may or may not have climbed one of the smaller tree decorations. The bigger tree by the piano in the kitchen is described to look very climbable. Like, that might be it or there may be more since a lot of times it IS other characters that give us that context, but I'm kinda thinking outloud.

tho maybe the Sans example could be waved away through like. Y'know when someone acts like they know you and you don't want to be rude because what if you just forgot who they are so you go along with it?

With the moss it's like. First time it's a choice that I think is influenced by the flavor text from Kris's emotions

Then in future chapters it isn't a choice it is just what happens after you interact with it

I also remember that in chapter 1 if you go into Toriel's room you can choose to smell the markers or not, and after that in future chapters you don't have a choice. Once you interact with it Kris decides to smell them without your input.

Also we know Kris is a weird kid and some interacting moments don't give us the choice not to be weird lol like. KRis influence

For the Sanses, the skeleton's niece/nephew gives them a drawing of their family. Everyone is very detailed and recognizable. ... Except them. They're like a potato with two eyes. Reaction?

Undertale Sans - He can't stop laughing. He expected something like that, but that's even funnier now that he's holding it in his hands. The kid is confused and a bit offended their uncle finds their drawing so amusing, but that just sends Sans off his chair because their face is hilarious. He guesses he deserves that though. He's a couch potato. He's far from offended and he's even framing it in his living room like it's the most expensive painting ever.

Underswap Sans - He GASPS. He was excited to receive a gift from his niece/nephew but now he is just so offended. You didn't even draw some blue on him. Make an effort? How did you manage to draw Asgore with his beard and everything, and not him? And why is he a potato and not Alphys?! That's not fair! Alphys deserves to be a potato too! She's the same height he is! Honey can't stop screaming in laughter as Blue argues with the confused 3-years old who doesn't understand what's wrong???

Underfell Sans - He forces a smile as Edge is giving him a death stare behind the kid. Ah... Yes... Very good drawing... Very... Artsy and stuff. Very colorful. That's totally him and not an ugly potato with two eyes. How did you picture him so well? He's exaggerating all of his praises, eyes in eyes with Edge. He's so going to keep the drawing... Except he has too. As the kid leaves, all happy, Edge tells him that if he finds the drawing in the trash when they leave, he's dead. Great.

Horrortale Sans - He's not sure what he's looking at honestly, but his niece/nephew seems very happy about this so he plays along. He's certainly not going to hurt their feeling and he's just happy they draw something for him. Actually, he's even a little emotional about that. That's like their first drawing and it makes him both happy and sad for some reason.

Swapfell Sans - ... What's that? You call that a drawing? Nox takes a deep breath. Rus begs him not to, but that's too late. Nox starts to criticize the drawing, and everything in the drawing, and shows the kid ways to improve their work by drawing over their drawing. The kid bursts into tears after two minutes and runs into Rus' arms, heartbroken. Then the brothers start arguing again. What? Do you want that kid to live in a world of lies? Thank Toriel there's at least someone to show them the truth in this family!

Fellswap Gold Sans - "COFFEE, WITH ALL RESPECTS, IS THIS REALLY YOUR CHILD? YOU'RE AN ARTIST, RIGHT? YOU SHOULD HAVE A DNA TEST. I THINK YOUR GENE BROKE IN THE PROCESS OR SOMETHING. MAYBE YOUR S/O FOUND THEM IN THE DUMP AND DIDN'T TELL YOU." S/O growls angrily, then lunges at him to strangle him. Wine is offended. He's just telling the truth though! That drawing is bad!

Got caught up to Deltarune. Here are my scattered thoughts on it. Oh yeah, also, if you can’t handle the concept of a male Kris respectfully, just block me now and save us both the headache, please and thank you. 🫶🏻

P.S. In case it wasn’t clear, I am not interested in arguing over Kris’ gender in any capacity and anyone trying to start a debate with me will be blocked. I just want to enjoy funni modern retro game.

I think that Mr. Tenna might be a slave of Mike like Spamton was, and Mike is definitely lurking in the shadows and I feel like Ralsei confirmed at the beginning that Mike is a Darkner (and possibly also Endogomy from Undertale judging by the shape). We got more lore about the creepy smile in Queen's basement last chapter too.

I had a feeling the Dark Worlds were similar to the Cognitive Realm in Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere. I have a theory that Ralsei is the Dark World version of Asriel. That, or Asriel has died and Ralsei represents something he dearly loved. The Darkners keep talking about Asriel as if in the past tense, which is bizarre.

I love the metaphor for the player puppeting Kris with them playing video games on Mr. Tenna's game show.

I also love how Ralsei’s bullshit martyr complex was deconstructed by Susie. She’s such a badass. I wonder if her parents are dead - she seems old enough to live by herself and she seems to see Kris’ mom as kind of a mother figure.

thinking about playing deltarune as a stand alone. alternative reality verse where toby fox decided to just jump straight into making his dream game ig. minor thing to consider, but when would the player be clued into ralsei having a startling resemblance to asriel? I suppose it could be guessed from his face reveal at the end of chapter 1, and the player (funnily enough, like susie) going "....y'know, he kinda looks like Kris' mom."

that might've made some theories, but that's about the only thing I can think of from CH1. and then the only indicators to the player that ralsei and asriel are kinda alike come only when noelle rolls up in CH2, with her "he kinda looks like...." and then straight up does not acknowledge him for the rest of the chapter lol. but then in CH4 we got her saying "a boy who kinda looks like kris' brother... but not?" and susie mistaking a photo on the fridge to be a photoshopped edit of ralsei only to be vigorously told by kris all the differences between the two. which at this point theorists would probably be like ?????

i dunno. i guess it fascinates me just how we know what asriel (probably) looks like even if we've literally never ever seen him in deltarune. the stuff we hear from the other town's people shapes the type of person he seems to be, sure, but the undertale audience already knows the general gist of his personality. what he talks like. who he kinda is, even if we've only seen the version of him when he's like 12. it's like we've already been given the end puzzle of a mystery, while the rest of it still needs to be pieced together. how differently would the depictions of asriel vary if we hadn't seen him already? i mean, look at dess and all of her variations. the fanbase seems to sortaaaa have the same idea for her after a while, but there still is great variety across the board.

i'm partial to the theory that ralsei is the dreamed up idealized version of kris that they created to fit within their family, and i do feel like in standalone deltarune the audience would draw a somewhat similar conclusion. looking at just what the characters state, it is both notable that ralsei looks like asriel and notable that he is distinctly not actually a direct look-a-like. this is all to say toby fox lemme see asriel i need to shake him like a bug he's the looming figure over kris' past let me see himmmmm i wanna see how kris interacts with him please please pleaseeeeeeee

yeah it's definitely interesting! i do think him looking like a dreemurr + the red horns thing at the end of ch1 would have probably clued people in to the kris fursona thing, and as for the Asriel resemblance there's the anagram thing for people to solve and put together. then again, would dialogue early on mention Asriel less...?

i do think it's fun seeing everyone's very different takes on how that 12 year old turns out. like, I feel like we have a firm start point, but there's lots of routes to follow

Guess who started play Omori? ☔

Today I managed to download a mobile version of Omori with translation in my native language and I'm quite happy to have played at least a little so far. (I'll continue later) I took a screenshot to show my current save while I'm posting this, It's been a while since I saw Omori content years ago and never played it, I'm trying it out and it's been great! I made this silly drawing trying to imitate the style of the game, obviously I used Yuma, because I'm thinking of naming Sunny as "Yuma", What do you guys think? I think it's a little fair, since in Undertale i put Chara's name as "Makoto". Unfortunately I had to uninstall Undertale because some controls were no longer working and I also needed space, I've played it before, so I was satisfied. I'll focus on Omori. What game should I try to play next? Yume Nikki? I saw that there should be a mobile version too.

Ok, I'll probably name Sunny as "Yuma", (Normally I would put my name or my Ocs name on the protagonist), I don't know if I'll show screenshots of the game with the characters using the name, I could do it on Twitter/X, but...problems with there. Haha...you wouldn't be interested in that. The drawing didn't turn out very well, maybe I'll do another one later, I don't even know if I'll be able to finish the game.
