excited to be using linux on my big screen computer~~
a cool thing I've noticed is that linux I think takes up significantly less space than windows ever did. and I'm just running the cinnamon desktop~~!!
out of the 256 gb of space on the initial OS drive, I've got 217 gb left. windows I forgot how much it left me with tho...
Linux mint is nice so far~~ especially the second hard drive being password protected to mount; rather than being accessible to anyone using the computer.
installed vlc as a media player and now idk what other applications I'd need.
or if I even have enough space currently to try to get steam games working. as the terabyte hard drive is cluttered with anime and music I've saved. and where all of my data is stored separate from the os.
one thing I lost tho that I had forgotten about was my progress in cookie clicker, as I was playing through that, and i don't remember when my last backup was or how much I've lost. By the time I realized I hadn't backed it up, the install was already in progress and it was far too late.
I like cinnamon so far~~ the keyboard shortcuts to reveal all the different desktops,, even found zoom features that are really useful. I thought you had to pinch or push your fingers apart while pushing the hotkey toggle like you do on iphones to zoom in on pictures and stuff, but no. just slide your fingers from the top of the touchpad to the bottom to zoom in, and reverse to go back to small.
I never used zoom on windows; much to my detriment, lol. bad vision is bad. I'm saying it again even tho it might not be relevant here, I'm legally blind. left eye bad vision, right eye none whatsoever. I never liked on board zoom on windows and i'm not sure why... this is nice.
I'm still excited cause I've always wanted to run linux on my big screened gaming pc, but it would never boot. come to find out I was installing grub in the wrong place... needed it on dev/sda1 instead of dev/sda itself. I guess because 1 is the first part of the disk?
hopefully much less spywarey than windows~~ and more secure. I've always assumed that linux/unix/bsd were more secure than windows in general.
funny enough when I first found these types of operating systems as a teenager a long time ago, I jumped into the deep end and immediately tried FreeBSD first. then backed off and stuck with fedora, opensuse for a bit, then to the more user friendly stuff like ubuntu, and linux mint. then many years later I stopped liking what whomever makes ubuntu was doing, and switched to mint, but they still used ubuntu's base, so now I use debian based stuff.
there's my entire fore into linux from being a teenager to now, lol. also very fanboyish high school report on how linux/unix was better than windows. before I even started using linux proper. ahhhh the cringe.
sucks a bunch of corporate stuff doesn't work with linux; cause I'm always seeing like the eye doctors operating systems being windows, and I'm always like "why don't you use linux?" the reason is they want their technology and stuff to work. like it won't on linux?
positive experience and a positive rant~~~ still going to tag it as rant anyway tho~~
#personal#thoughts#thinking#linux#linux mint#debian#linux mint debian#linux mint debian edition#linux mint debian edition 6#good os#better than windows 10 so far#a good rant#rant#rant post#positive#positivity#a positive rant#a positive experience#now I don't need to worry about the stupid windows 10 end of support message#came here from windows 10#windows 10#couldn't run windows 11 anyway cause I didn't want to make a microsoft account#zoom#screen zoom#low vision#legally blind#visually impaired#and so linux gets another user~~#happy to be in linux land

Summer / Spring "news from beyond"
This is a cross-post of my latest article from my neocities blog, Queer of Swords, which you can find here. Find out all about how I've been doing, all the games & zines I've released since February, and what I'm currently working on under the cut!
(Tumblr messes with the formatting so I do recommend clicking and reading it on the blog.)
Hello everyone!
And thank you Tootkin for giving me the title of this blog post when I asked them, "how do I say 'this is all I've been up to since last time' in one English word?" :p
I've been meaning to blog, to journal, to answer my letters-- but I haven't taken any time to sit down at all in the last few months. Part of it was simply not having the time, running around putting out fires due to our relentless lack of funds. I also... did... so. much. stuff.
In no particular order:
I started making zines!
I made a zine on HOW TO BREW A NICE CUP OF TEA for the "How To Run A Jam" in early April. I am very proud of it. I think it's very informational. I'm working on a second issue on growing your own herbs for herbal tea!
I made a COMMISSION ZINE for Tootkin's art in late April. I am incredibly proud of it. I think it slaps. I think it looks really cool. Absolute magazine spread behaviour right here. I love it so much.
I CAN'T FUCKING TAKE THIS ANYMORE, a sleep-deprived, angry zine for the Insomnia Jam in early May. I think it's a very earnest and poignant piece and I'm very happy with it, even though it feels a little illegal to be so sincere and use swear words in the title.
I released three pieces of micro-fiction for the Neo Twiny Jam 2025 in June. Each is written in a different engine, and each is under the jam's limit of 500 words.
A QUIET EVENING is a cute, domestic piece inspired by my life with Tootkin. I enjoyed playing around with the Dendry engine, which I would LOVE if it didn't miss, like, two features I really need and don't know how to code. This one only took like three hours, don't we love when it goes like that!
A FEW STEPS (UP THE HILL) is an atmospheric, immersive piece inspired by my daily walks in nature. I made it in a day or so with Ink, which was fun except the editor crashes when maximized, which makes it useless for me. It took longer because I struggled to remain under the limit, ahah.
VERY RESTRAINED SUMMER FUN is a tired, dehydrated piece straight up inspired by trying to survive the heatwave. Made with Twine, which is probably the IF engine I will stick with for now.
I sank countless hours banging my head against RPG Maker MV after noticing it was gathering dust in my Steam library. I learnt so much about this experience, one of which being I probably won't be making RPGs or any sort of games with RPG Maker MV. Hopefully I can recreate my "vision" for this little game test later.
When I was too tired to work on anything specific but couldn't just stay still, I also spent some time trying to learn lua, playing around with Solarus or Defold. I really want to like Solarus, but there's no binary of the last version for Linux, I failed to compile the sourcecode myself and even using stupid workarounds (using the Windows binaries through Steam) I never got any answer to my issues on their git. Bleh.
I worked so hard and tried so, so hard to get four Godot narrative games off the ground. Those projects aren't abandoned, per se, and they all feature the same sort of mechanics, so once I will be able to finish one it will help the others tremendously. But they're all stuck because I can't seem to make any of the Dialogue or State Machine part to work yet, and it's so overwhelming and depressing to even think about. I feel so stuck. I don't know what to do, and for now I'm very happy working on other things.
MICE LIFE is too ambitious, too big, and means too much to me. It's a "A farming life sim where rodents and other little creatures live in harmony with the land and each other, focused on anti-capitalist, community-building practices." I want all the things from farming games, and things like befriending NPCs allow you to ask for their help on your farm. I want an overarching plot, I want so many things with those mice. I got so overwhelmed trying to write the GDD back in February and decided to scope down, which gave us...
DANDELION'S TEA, a cottage life sim with dating elements which took over most of my March. Garden and forage your way through NPC's narrative arcs, brew potions, blend tea, and do not decorate your house because that sounds way above my skill levels. This was a cute attempt at "scoping down" while exploring ideas I hold dear, but eventually it proved too overwhelming.
LITTLE LADS' CHEER-UP SQUAD was my and Tootkin's project for Ludum Dare Jam 57 in early April. It's a very simple game, using very cute store-bought assets. Your friend is having a bad day, so you work with other NPCs to cheer them up by talking to people and fetching a few items. I thought doing the LDJ would be a good idea, a way to get out of this "start projects but get overwhelmed after three weeks" rut. I also thought the scope was small enough, but we really struggled with the dialogue manager. We tried several Godot plugins, and we simply couldn't get any to work properly before I started panicking about...
HADES INTO SPRING, a walking simulator of sorts, a very personal piece on change, transition, and depression that I really, really, really wanted to submit to Game Poem Magazine. The submission window for the first issue closed on June 15, and in the month and a half leading up to that I tried SO HARD to get it done. I knew what I wanted to say, but I would sit down and the writing would not happen, at all. Tootkin wasn't available to help me with the code, and everything was just too much. There was too much pressure-- to try and make it into a magazine, a regret from my fiction-writing days; to tell a story that matters so much too much. I couldn't do it. Eventually, two weeks or so before the deadline, I realized I didn't want to. It mattered so much to me-- ten years ago. I was struggling so much to make it happen because I was clinging to the dreams, hopes and regrets of someone I wasn't anymore. I stopped trying so hard, moved onto other things, and let the deadline gently pass me by. I still want to tell this story, but I think I need to tell it on my own terms, at my own pace, and for no other aim than to tell it.
LOUSTIC'S GARDEN is a puzzle game with farming elements which I am currently developing with Tootkin's help in PICO-8. Eventually, something had to give, and it seems that LOUSTIC's tiny scope, the limitations of the PICO-8 fantasy console and Tootkin's obsession with puzzles as well as background in programming... are all aligning like the stars and allowing slow but steady progress on the game. I have been posting weekly Screenshot Saturdays over on my brand-new sideblog for all things games and zines related. This is what I would consider my "current WIP".
AN APRIL'S WALK is a piece of interactive fiction which takes the reader on a long Spring afternoon walk in the countryside. It's literally A FEW STEPS, but much longer, without the constraint of the Jam, and with the explicit goal of self-indulgently recreating some of my favorite places. Progress is a bit slower than I'd like, but that's due to being too tired to write these days.
I was also starting my transition. Blood tests and doctor's visits and almost immediate lifestyle changes, some more expected than others. (I. am. so. horny. All day, every day. Doesn't my body know I have stories to write and games to make?! I do not have the time!)
I also made a lot of social media posts & graphics to help Tootkin promote their work, since their commissions are our only source of income at the moment. I am very happy with the ones I did for their LiberaPay as well.
And we made a lot of progress regarding "making this house a home". We moved in in a rush three years ago and it's been so rough. The house belongs to my parents, who live on the same land, and our relationship is painful and bittersweet at best.
There's a part of me that simply cannot live here, even though I utterly adore the land, the dale, the forest, the little streams, the hill. Saying good-bye to this place would free me and tear me apart; either way, we cannot afford to move, and so we've been working at making ourselves more comfortable. It's a slow process, but it's a process. We'll get there.
Anyway! The main message of this post is supposed to be how I've been doing so much but I'm actually not okay. I'm not okay at all! I can't afford anything, at all, ever, that's not strictly necessary. I'm terrified of not being able to afford to eat. I feel stuck in my life, even though I'm transitioning and learning and creating every day.
I don't know what I need, I'm too scared to want anything. I can't sit down to journal or answer my friends' letters because if I do, there is just SO MUCH emotioning and feeling happening, and I don't have the time or the tools for any of that.
I do not want to live my life in grief and in anger and in pain anymore-- I think I have spent too many years brain-fogg'd, kept in place by anxiety, mindlessly browsing Reddit or Tumblr, zoning out in front of social media. I have spent too many hours tearfully talking about the trauma on Zoom or on therapist's couches. I am so, so done crying and processing and all that shit... and I still have so many fires to put out, so many crisis (every interaction with my parents is a crisis), and like, I think that's fine.
I think I'm not in an introspective time in my life, and maybe that's allowed. I don't need to be healing all the time. I want to do things, now! The urge to create, the need to exert my agency on something, anything has been so strong and life-sustaining. So, for now, I am rolling with that.
I feel like I should wrap up this blog post with some sort of conclusion, but nothing comes to mind. Thank you for reading! See you next time!

Update from the last week or so:
School is going somewhat well; I was falling behind in some of my classes for whatever reason but I've managed to catch up and stay on top of things, which I found is very difficult for me sometimes. I struggle to stay motivated to work on homework and put the necessary time in for studying, but it is important to remember discipline >>> motivation. I've found that once I start working on a project for a few minutes without distraction, it pushes me into the working mindset and it is easier to stay focused on that task.

(snippet from my first comp sci lab this year ^^)
In computer science news:
I have joined two (2) computer and technology related clubs this year!
Linux Users Group : a club dedicated to the learning of everything Linux based. Terminal work to Ricing !
Unmanned Arial Systems Club (UAS) : a club dedicated to drone projects, testing and competing. The main goal of the club is to compete with other drones in professional competitions to land parcels onto specific targets. There are many different moving parts to the club in terms of what one can work on; hardware, software and flying the drone itself! I really am enjoying this club even after two meetings, it is very interactive and I feel very welcomed and encouraged here ! :3
One thing that is difficult about being a women in a tech field with tech interests is that very often I am the only girl at these functions. Luckily there are many people who are welcoming to new members and ideas in these organizations, but it is still a challenge to fit in as a women sometimes.
One final note; a personal project! I've been ricing my Ubuntu desktop with Conky which has been a great learning experience and a challenge. I am so happy with the knowledge I have gained from this project, even though I am not fully done. If anyone has any tips or ideas for ricing with Conky on Ubuntu, please let me know!
Study hard and know that you are loved ! <3

Aquapark Tycoon Teaser Showcases Fun Gameplay

Aquapark Tycoon trailer showcases the waterpark simulation game where you create a paradise via Linux and Windows PC. Thanks to the nonstop creativity from the team at Boxelware, the fun just keeps getting better. And it's all due to make its way onto Steam. Alright, listen up, gamers — if you’ve ever dreamed of building the wildest, splashiest, most over-the-top water park ever, then Aquapark Tycoon trailer is about to make your summer. The indie devs at Boxelware just dropped a brand-new gameplay trailer, and it’s packed with wild rides, epic fails, and more water than your graphics card can handle. So, what’s this game all about? Think RollerCoaster Tycoon, but with slides, saunas, and a whole lot more water. Your job? Build the ultimate water park paradise. From massive spiral slides that twist into the sky, to chill wellness pools where guests can soak away their worries — this game lets you design it all. Let’s break it down:
Slide Building Madness
This is where your creativity goes wild. The Aquapark Tycoon trailer shows how you can design slides that make your guests scream (in a good way). Want a death-defying vertical drop? Do it. Prefer a lazy loop with gentle curves? Go for it. Just make sure your visitors actually land in the water — trust me, watching them fly off the edge and faceplant isn’t great for ratings... but it is hilarious.
Pools, Pools, and More Pools
Your pools are also the heart of the park. Build giant wave pools for the thrill-seekers, or peaceful hot springs for the chill crowd. You control everything — due to shape, depth, water temp, even the vibes. Want neon lights and party music? Done. Prefer zen gardens and soft waterfalls? Also done.
The Sauna Side Quest
When guests aren’t zooming down slides, they might want to relax. In the trailer, you can see, that’s where saunas come into Aquapark Tycoon. You can customize the heat, scents, and style, and even run fancy aroma infusions to impress wellness fans. Think of it as the classy part of your park — where robes replace swimsuits.
Play with Friends
Yup, there’s co-op! So you can team up with your squad to build the most unique waterpark ever. Divide tasks, share builds, or flex your creativity on the Steam Workshop. It’s like Minecraft meets water world.
Aquapark Tycoon Gameplay Trailer

Keep Guests Happy
Every visitor has their own taste. While some want action, others want peace. You’ve gotta read their vibes and tweak your park accordingly. The kid wants slides, grandma wants a hot tub, and that dude over there? He’s just here for the pool bar.
Full-on Park Management
As you can see in the Aquapark Tycoon trailer, you’re the boss. Due to handle indoor vs. outdoor layouts, hire lifeguards, run seasonal events, and plan for weather shifts. In summer, keep things cool. In winter, saunas take the spotlight. So you’re always adjusting to keep guests smiling.
Scenarios to Test Your Skills
You’ll face different challenges in each level. Some are chill, some are chaotic. Can you handle a sudden heatwave or keep your park running when winter hits hard? Time to find out. Aquapark Tycoon was first revealed at Caggtus in Leipzig, and Boxelware just came back this year with a new trailer that’s full of summer vibes and also pure chaos. No release date yet, but the devs are still adding cool new stuff, so stay tuned. Want to stay in the loop? Hit up the official website or wishlist it on Steam.

Mad Max (2015) - ★★★½
I’ve been looking for signs of an alternative ending for Mad Max since last night when I finished it in vain. Maybe happy Hollywood ending spoiled me, I couldn’t just let it end like this. But maybe it’s supposed to end like this, as other pointed out in Reddit and elsewhere; maybe that’s the point. Mad Max is a tragic story of the end of the world, and a man ending with it. To that extent, the game is brilliant.
The game 🎮 is played as Max from a third-person view angle, on foot or in his car. As the game progresses, you advance and upgrade mostly the car but also Max himself, with major upgrades locked until you finish certain missions. I played all of those, main story ones and side ones, and enjoyed them all. The mechanics of the game are responsive and polished for the most part (some of the racing missions force you to use a different vehicle, and those drive like a wet sack of potatoes shot out of a tar-loaded circus cannon); combos land with crunchy satisfaction, car chases end with dramatic explosions with the help of Chumbucket… Chumbucket! Let me rave a bit about the best character in the game, which made the whole story for me.
Chumbucket is a mechanic (“black finger”) hunchback you’re introduced to early in the game, and he’s with you to the end. The voice acting by Jason Spisak is the best in the game, hands down. In my opinion, Chumbucket also has the best backstory too. He gives you tips and direction in the game, acting both as a guide and as an extension of some of the most popular car weapons in the game, like the Harpoon and the Thundersticks.
The game has plenty of those backstory moments, which makes it an excellent supplement to the world in the Mad Max movies, and being able to drive wherever you want and learn more about different sites is an excellent bonus if you love the movies. Max will comment about the different relics you find in the world, and you’ll get more bits and pieces about “The Fall.” Everything from the “big nothing” to the storms, from shipwrecks to enemy camps, oozes with Mad Max style. There were times I stepped out of the car, climbed on a hill somewhere, and admired the view. It’s one of those games you can sink into.
If you like the Mad Max movies, and you have a taste for action post apocalyptic games, you won’t be disappointed. This 2015 title is available on most gaming platforms including macOS and Linux costs less than half of a full AAA game.

There's no way to answer this question without speaking speculatively on the psychology and interior motivations of people who aren't me, so disclaimer for that, but that being said, I think it's a combination of:
systemd was pretty buggy in the early days. I think this was mostly unavoidable rather than a symptom of bad design or implementation, since it's trying to solve a genuinely very difficult problem, but I think people formed an opinion about it early, integrated that opinion into their identity, and have a hard time changing it.
Like any complex solution to a complex problem, systemd has tradeoffs, but the tradeoffs are pretty asymmetrical: the benefits accrue mostly to distro maintainers and people running Linux on fleets of servers, while the costs mostly land on people tinkering with Linux on their PCs. This is a good tradeoff overall, (because, let's be real, Linux is a server OS first and foremost and PC usage by tinkerers rather than "I just want it to work" users is a rounding error), but this leads to an asymmetry in commentary: the first two groups are happy with systemd but don't feel the need to make a lot of noise about it; the third group is mostly the kind of people who will go on forums and vent about what frustrates them.
On a superficial analysis, systemd appears to badly violate "the Unix way" of "each tool does one thing and does it will". I think this analysis is flawed for a number of reasons— I could go into in a separate post but this is getting long enough already— but IMO a lot of Unix users have absorbed it more as a religious mantra than either a factual description of history or a pragmatic engineering guideline. And since it's a religious conviction, systemd is not merely bad engineering but heresy, hence all the vitriol.
what is it about systemd and seemingly Lennart Poettering specifically that makes people talk like that. You'd think he killed their parents in front of them.

This week we’re looking at another new track in the recent RPG update: “Nocturne for the Wooded Witch” - a dark, foreboding track that one can unlock upon challenging the fabled Witch of the Woods.
In truth, when it comes to the might of magic found in the realms of hume and fae, there are few who can compare to the duplicitous matron herself. And even in a fairy tale land, tragedy can be ever found alongside whimsy in equal measure.
Download Mushroom Musume for free today. Available for PC / Mac / Linux and Android.

I didn’t want to reblog another long post, so I’ll just say my own thing here.
Gatekeeping fandom is good, ackshully.
Especially since we have a certain pattern of person, call them, “SJWs” if you want, that deliberately creep into a fandom with their values and shamelessly, deliberately, use it as a platform. They CONSCIOUSLY do this. They DELIBERATELY do this.
And then they have the audacity to see false positives and imagine dog whistles everywhere of things outside THEIR orthodoxy in the fandom being -isms, or -gnies. Accusing the people already there of being “out of date” and “toxic”, when it’s neither toxic nor uninclusive- it just isn’t rearranging itself to accommodate Intersectional Feminism or giving Intersectional Feminists voluntary control over everything from how something works to how it’s defined.
That to them is tantamount to being Nazis. And that’s kind of how you can tell they’re the same sort of daft, disingenuous fucks that wrap up socialist or ancom shit in supposed social progress. And if they could they’re reshape EVERYTHING to match their sensibilities, because their sensibilities are, “our way or you die.”
If you spend enough time peeking through academic papers and colleges you even learn there’s a thing many of them do. Which is, “Queering,” characters on purpose, to make them unpalatable or untouchable to cis/het people. That’s culturally like raising a flag on something to annex it and landgrab it.
And if you say, “hands off, this character isn’t gay?” They pivot and declare you’re just a homophobe whom is afraid of change, tell other people that and then talk in the broad bruckstroke about, “society is really so homophobic/afraid of new ideas. :c”
These people don’t even want to be part of that fandom for the sake of being in the fandom. They just want it because they want the fandom to perpetuate their values and parrot their beliefs and spread it to everybody else that wants to participate in that fandom. Do you like this popular thing? Okay, you can have popular thing, but only if you hug this Courtney Love doll and buy it and pet it and love it as part of the package deal!
And as part and parcel of the demanding to not just define the fundamentals and parameters of a fandom, they also demand to reinterpret the history of said fandom based on how out of orthodoxy to their values they find it to their own beliefs. So, was the hobby primarily done by white men in the past? Then naturally they’ll automatically paint it with a broad brush and say, “this hobby was very unwelcoming to non-whites and women in the past because of icky homophobic and misogynistic men!” Regardless of how many authors were beloved by the fandom that were female, regardless of how many women were equal fandom members before- they weren’t the Intersectional Feminist types of fans, so clearly they were “closer to the Daughters of the Confederacy than real people,” right? That’s how that works, apparently.
So yes. We had a taste of this in the 90s, but the feminists/radfems at the time weren’t trying to infiltrate the fandom and take it over to be about feminism. They were shaming boys and other girls for liking the big booby comic book girls as sexist and objectification and trying to get comic fans to abandon comics in order to pressure the companies economically into changing.
“These comics are written and drawn by MEN! MAAAAALE GAAAAAAAAAZE!!! Sexualized girls are only okay when WOMEN are drawing them and writing them for the authenticity!” And there were not many women that either liked comic books or wanted to BE in them, so they’d maintain that impossible standard to try and coerce the boys to FIND women for the sake of having a woman on staff, just to assauge their, “icky boys aren’t allowed to do this without me declaring it wrong” qualm.
And true to form for Progressives, give an inch and within a short period of time they just want more, and declare what was offered before was just to mollify or patronize them. “Oh so women can tidy up and do the low work. Why no female CEOs in the company yet? Why not Editor in Chief?”
But the way the Intersectionals do it is new. Rather than just stay outside the fandom because “yuck it offends my sensibilities, it shouldn’t exist,” they try and appropriate the fandom and then contribute rules and policies for it.
We saw this in the years leading up to Gamergate. The Subverters infiltrated video game journos, got incestuous and buddy-buddy with both Triple A industry people and independent game creators and traded favors, financial, sexual and other, for good reviews. Folks like Anita Sarkesian trying to make a name for themselves by already being insiders and getting plugged by the conspirators to LOOK like she was anything more than a plant for that cause, using other peoples video game playing footage in her critique videos, styling herself a holistic “girl gamer” and waxing poetic about “those awful neckbearded dudebros questioning my gamer cred! Tch!”
And so that romantic boogyman became a thing that they perpetuated. “The gatekeeping, woman hating, manbaby Gamer.” Where they then added in racism and male chauvinism and traditionalism and transphobia because you know you can’t just leave it at “misogynist.” Not, “in this society.”
Gamers protesting and demanding that game journalist magazines state their relationships to the creators for full disclosure got them retaliating asymmetrically, though. The FBI investigated all those, “threatening and trolling social media messages” that supposedly got Zoe Quinn and Sarkesian to leave their houses, “for fear of an attack,” and they got nothing. A few of them were caught doxxing themselves on purpose on 4chan. Quinn herself being part of the SomethingAwful’s Crash Override forums, where they’d do shit like this to troll and harass people for fun. They KNOW how to false flag and make it look like a bunch of angry dudebros did it.
Statistically the number of harassing egg names was far lower than the messages either girl received that was NOT harassment or threats, merely replies they didn’t agree with or didn’t appreciate. And yet they still ran around screaming about “all those misogynistic dudebro gamers” that were “harassing and doxing them.” And that boogyman became the party line. That Gaming and Gamers were full of toxic, misogynistic, racist manbabies SOooOoOooOO intimidated by, “women finally in what they feel are THEIR spaces,” that they’d try to run them out.
That’s how they interpreted it and that’s how the history books they write will repeat it.
They try and make a great big public show about “entering this toxic space” to flip it and civilize it, but what they’re really trying to do is officially own it. As a fandom, as a space and as a culture. And that entails being able to say what goes, what’s acceptable and what’s not, and set the tone and culture for that space. Meaning, to be able to gatekeep the product.
Rather than just decry the product, they decide they’re just going to mutate the product by slow assimilation, until the product doesn’t even resemble the original product anymore. They do this shit with comic books, videogames, and now they’re working on doing it to beloeved novels and their fandoms. It’s like forcibly marrying them to terrible people, so you can never have a fandom WITHOUT those people in your space trying to insist their interpretations of things are original canon, ever again.
And the sickest part is, these people DO NOT stop at fiction. That’s why this shit is called Cultural Marxism. Because it’s not much different from the way communists and socialist guerillas act and operate when it comes to land, resources and industry. They take over public spaces and forums and use a combination of instittional corruption, terrorism and violence and vandalism in order to destroy or silence competition.
They’ve even infiltrated the Linux community and taken over most of that, via Linus Torvalds’ daughter. You can’t have ANYTHING around these people, because they just sit and wait and conspire to come in and make even a simple community mural to revolve around whatever social issue and specifically their philosophy’s take on it being THE only valid take on it that everybody else must now interact with, good or bad, but they can’t ignore it anymore.
This is, also, partially why they hate it when fandoms are gatekept by singularly powerful individuals. Like say, authors of their own works. They don’t like singular owners of enterprise and property, because it prevents the mob from taking them and then dictating TO the creator, “this is the PEOPLES property now. WE decide, as the most powerful clique, what is true and real with it and what isn’t.”
Because like what happened with Frank Oz of Jim Henson Studios. An activist gay writer declared that Bert and Ernie’s relationship was “canon gay,” because he wrote them as canon gay lovers. There was a great big information cascade as all these affiliated journo companies published articles about how “happy they were to see Sesame Street and the Children’s Television Workshop as representing LGBT people in public!”
Frank Oz spoke up, set the record straight, “These characters were made by me and a friend and were meant to depict a platonic male-male relationship. They aren’t gay but I’m glad you could identify with them.”
That poor old man caught so much shit. They called him a homophobe, said he was, “stealing Bert and Ernie from them,” that he should just shut up and “let people have this.”
No. Fucking no. These people are fucking conspirators, believe wholly in dominating and taking shit over by moving their people into a thing until they have the warm bodies and the institutional authority to crowd out oppositional voices, then have the audacity to SCREEEAAAAAAM bloody murder about the dangers of anybody else organizing to contest them because, “The Nazis are gathering to attack us poor innocent minorities!!” Counting on the ignorance and unsuspecting nature of people to not know such a thing is fake or the totality of the situation.
That’s why they’ll keep this shit on the downlow and call anybody that accuses them of doing shit like this a liar or a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist. Demanding evidence, in bad faith, knowing there’s little to no way to PROVE any of this UNTIL they’ve done it, and then declaring you to be invalid since you can’t prove the conspiracy.
Because if you can’t prove it with evidence, they’ll simply say you’re a Nazi trying to smear “good people.”

The Vintage Gamer, Vol. 0, Issue #1
(Apologies for the lateness of the post, irl stuff happened)
Welcome to the first issue! For the time being, we will keep this issue into three categories: news, anniversaries and birthdays of famous figures of the industry
So here’s the News
2021 is going to be seeing the releases of some new games from classic franchises, such as Digimon Survive for PS4 and PS5 (last release from the franchise was back in 1999), Dragonborn for Gameboy (an RPG inspired by Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy and Dragon Warriors), and a new untitled Sonic the Hedgehog game (reports say it is teased by SEGA themselves). There have also been talks of a new Pokemon game coming out next year with old classics attached.
The classic Golden Axe franchise will be received a new game for the series as SEGA celebrates it 60th anniversary and has allowed fans to play the game for free when it was released on October 18th.
The SG-1000, the newest Mini Console SEGA has been teasing for quite some time, has gotten some information surrounding this new console such as the release date being sometime in 2021 for both and and how it will be an updated version of the original console, this time with WiFi connectivity and HD resolution. Around that same time is when the Dreamcast Mini is supposed to be making its debut, however more information will need to come forward.
Let’s Celebrate some Anniversaries!
For this month, we dedicate these games:
Grim Fandango celebrates its 22nd anniversary today! First released in 1998 by LucasArts (Yup, that LucasArts), it is an adventure game focusing on the story of Manuel "Manny" Calavera as he navigates through the world of the Land of the Dead. Critically and commerically acclaimed, this masterpiece recently saw a remastered version and is now available for Microsoft Windows, Linux, OS X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. As of October 2020, an Xbox One version is said to be released.
Virtua Racing (SEGA), although initially released in Japan of August, 1992, the game went on to be released worldwide in October of that same year. This iconic piece of gaming history was responsible for bringing 3D polygonal graphics to the forefront of gaming, especially in the world of arcade, and is hailed as one of the most influential games ever created.
Sonic and Knuckles, regarded as one of the best in the long-running franchise (pun fully intended), was released in 1994 for the Sega Genesis. This and Sonic 3 were originally meant to be the same, single game, but hardware limitations caused the single game to be split into two, creating the now-famous lock-on technology that the games became famous for.
How about some Birthdays?
Happy Birthday Toby Fox!
October 11, 1991-
Video game developer and composer
Best known for Undertale, Deltarune, Pokemon Sword/Shield, and Hiveswap
Happy Birthday Tetsuya Nomura!
October 8, 1970-
Video game artist, designer, and director (mainly employed at Square Enix)
Best known for Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Chrono Trigger
That concludes this month’s issue of The Vintage Gamer! Hope you learned something new ^^

Nightwatchers: A New Challenge for Viceroys

Nightwatchers DLC brings fresh, thrilling content to Against the Storm, the roguelite city builder game storming onto Steam Deck and Linux via Windows PC. Thanks to the creative minds at Eremite Games, who keep finding bold new ways to challenge players. Due to release on Steam and GOG. Get ready, Viceroys – the storm is far from over. Just when you thought Against the Storm couldn’t get any more intense, Nightwatchers, the second major DLC for the critically acclaimed roguelite city builder, is swooping in on July 31, 2025. And yes, it’s coming to Linux and Steam Deck, via Proton. This isn’t just another content release. This is a reckoning. Meet the Bats – your newest denizens in the wild fight for survival. They’re not here to make friends. These winged hardliners are tough, no-nonsense, and they hate weakness. Their signature ability, Manorial Court, literally kicks out a settler from another species to “motivate” the rest. Brutal? Absolutely. But it works. They even gain resolve when others leave – talk about cold-blooded. Or cold-winged? These volatile creatures shine in the most punishing places – and good thing, too, because Nightwatchers introduces two new biomes that crank the survival dial way up. First up: Rocky Ravine. It’s bleak, it’s barren, and you won’t see a single tree – just metal, stone, and merchants who’d sell their own kin for a quick Amber. Welcome to the Black Market mechanic – your under-the-table lifeline. Here, you’ll gamble with shady deals, fluctuating prices, and items the Scorched Queen doesn’t need to know about. High risk, high reward. Just the way we like it.

youtube
Then there’s the Bamboo Flats, where fertile land is a distant memory. But not all hope is lost – say hello to the Fluffbeak, a massive feathered creature that can turn this soggy wasteland into a booming settlement… if you treat it right. Keep it fed, hydrated, and warm, and it’ll reward you with life-giving fertilizer. Mistreat it? Well, let’s just say things could get messy in . This biome adds a whole new layer of resource management, with heart-pounding decisions on every rainy day. Nightwatchers keeps going from there. So, that’s just the beginning. Nightwatchers also brings new orders, world events, rewards, and yes – fresh music to keep your ears as happy as your settlers (or terrified Bats). Oh, and Update 1.8 drops the same day for free, adding a new Smoldering City upgrade, a brand-new way to fulfill service needs, a legendary cornerstone, and even more extras. So mark your calendars: July 31, 2025. Whether you're building on Linux and Steam Deck, via Windows PC. Against the Storm – Nightwatchers is coming for you via Steam and GOG UMU Launcher and/or Lutris. If you haven’t jumped in yet, the base game’s still going strong at $29.99 USD / £24.99 / €29.99 / ¥3,980 – a steal for one of the most addictive strategy experiences out there.

Visual Novel Review - National Park Girls - Episode 2: Happy Trails
After seven months, we finally have the second part of Studio Coattails’ episodic slice of life visual novel, National Park Girls: Episode 2 - Happy Trails. The game continues from where the first episode left off, following cynical park ranger Eve as she lives out her exiled with her new roommates, three magical and adorable girls that are embodiments of different American national parks. As this is the second episode in the game, a lot is the same as the first. The art is fantastic, the full English voice acting is nearly perfect, and it is all funny and cute as a button doing stand-up. If you want to learn more about the game, check out my review of Episode 1. Now to examine what Episode 2 has to offer.
Happy Trails starts with a stylized flashback of the incident that landed Eve on probation. This strong opening is one of the best scenes in the visual novel. The jagged black and white artwork, redesigned UI, and jarring sound effects are as disturbing as they are incredible. Not only is the direction excellent, but the story nicely feeds into Eve’s arc in the episode.
From this fantastic opening scene, we jump into the daily life of the cabin. Eve is grouchy, Yosemite is stuck in her research, and Zion is cute but otherwise uninteresting (I desperately hope that she gets more screen time and development in Episode 3). The plucky Yellowstone is bouncing around preparing breakfast and doing the housework. Throughout the morning, the women begin to bicker, causing Yellowstone storms off in a huff. While Eve is out working, she finds the volcano-headed girl, and the two take a quick magical excursion to Yellowstone National Park. There they hike around, talk, help some inexperienced campers, and solve each other’s emotional issues, thus wrapping the episode’s plot up nicely.
There are a lot of positive aspects to the story of this episode. Eve goes through some quality character development, realizing that she is often too harsh and unforgiving of others. The humor in the story is top quality, dare I say, “Dope AF” (a reference that every Twitter post, Steam review, and forum post about this game will include). It also contains some excellent environmentalism commentary about the ways humans treat nature and neglect to consider the long term impact of our actions. The dialogue is exceptionally well written, and the relationship between Eve and Yellowstone was believable, entertaining, and realistic. Lastly, props for the scene where Eve says she is not into stories, gossip, or boys (I know this is not a romance, but my Yuri radar is stuck in the “On and Desperate” position).
The central conflict and reason for Yellowstone’s tantrum is that she feels overlooks. Despite all she does to keep the “household” running, nobody every thanks her or offers to help. I take no issue with this storyline, but the execution is flawed. To establish this plot, Yosemite is made significantly meaner than she was in Episode 1. She was always harsh, sarcastic, and exasperated, but here she is downright cruel to Yellowstone, and that is not hippy skippy! Also, despite Yellowstone being the center of the story, she undergoes very little development. Instead, it is the others who grow as people… national parks… and become kinder and more appreciative. Again, this is not inherently a problem, but it could have been done better. If Yosemite and Zion were featured a bit more, their evolution would feel more natural and satisfying as a payoff.
While Yellowstone’s arc is my main qualm with Episode 2: Happy Trails, I did encounter some smaller issues. A few of these were technical, such as the wrong voice line playing, or the absence of audio altogether. Additional, during the first half of the game, Yosemite sounds ever so slightly muffled. Fortunately, Rachael Messer’s performance is so good I feel ashamed for even pointing it out. There is also one awkward scene early on where Yellowstone fears that forgetting to make coffee will result in abuse, but she quickly returns to her usual peppy self. However, these instances are noticeable and detract from the overall experience.
It feels like I railed against the game a while there, but I really did enjoy it. There is a lot to love here. The English voicing is phenomenal, Jill Harris once again steals the show as Yellowstone and has plenty of screen time to show off her talent. Satchely’s CG artwork is beautiful and clean, they are easily some of the best offerings in visual novels. I would buy this game for the images alone. Studio Coattails even improved many aspects of the game I criticized in my review of Episode 1. For example, the sprite animation, while still fluid and dynamic, is toned down and used with greater impact. Lastly, the backgrounds are a vast improvement. Yellowstone Park is nearly as beautiful as the real thing, and it clashes way less with the sprites. Thanks to the backgrounds, the already phenomenal artwork is lifted to the next level.
National Park Girls Episode 2: Happy Trails will easily please players with its plethora of adorable characters, funny dialogue, and astounding artwork. While it does take a few missteps with the story, it is still enjoyable, and I know that it can get even better in future episodes. I eagerly await Episode 3 and pray we will not have to wait too long for it.
Ratings: Story – 5 Characters – 6 Art – 9 Voice – 9 Music – 6 LGBTQ – 1 Lewdness – 0 Final – 6
The visual novel is available on Steam for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Thinkpad Yoga 2021, Buying Guidance
It's a banner year for Thinkpad Yoga devices, with a lot of keen changes. The Thinkpad products I've been wanting to see for years, are starting to appear.
As always, my buying advise includes the following:
Lurk the Lenovo website for coupons, and sales. They run all the time, but there is often a day or two where a sale, and a coupon, overlap.
Upgrade the Warranty. I've had to make a dozen warranty calls to Lenovo, for myself, and other folks, and having an upgraded warranty on a Thinkpad makes a big difference. The warranty service is always good in my experience, but it can be amazing for a little more.
This year, get the RAM you want, installed at the time of purchase. The new Intel SoC for a lot of products has a the RAM soldered, and can't be upgraded later.
Lenovo has really embraced Linux compatibility of late. You almost don't even need to check with Thinkpads anymore, they are going to be compatible, fit, and ready to go. Many can be ordered to ship with Linux already on board.
Let’s dig in!
X1 Yoga Gen 6 (14" Intel)
The highlights here are a 16:10 aspect ratio for the display, rechargeable Lenovo Integrated Pen, on board in a silo, Intel Iris Xe Graphics (finally, you guys, finally), and up to 32 GB of RAM (also, finally!). 11th Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 Processors, 1145G7, 1135G7, 1165G7, 1185G7, are top performers in realm of UltraBook ULV options. Depending on your region, there will be 4G / 5G LTE WANN options. Also, there is a 57Wh battery that supports rapid charge with a 65W Adapter.
Those display options though:
14" UHD+ 4K (3840 x 2400) IPS, anti-reflection, anti-smudge, touchscreen with Dolby Vision™, HDR400, 500 nits, 90% DCI P3 Color Gamut, TÜV Rheinland-certified for reduced blue light emissions
14" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) IPS, anti-glare, touchscreen with Privacy Guard, 500 nits
14" FHD+ (1920 x 1200) IPS, anti-glare, touchscreen, 400 nits, TÜV Rheinland-certified for reduced blue light emissions
Those options are according to the website, where the PSREF lists four options, one with 100% DCI P3 Color Gamu, and 1500:1 Contrast Ratio. I'll try to get some clarity on that. All have 100% sRGB Anti-Glare, or Anti-Reflective glass treatments, and so forth. I have a Lenovo Yoga product with a UHD 4K Display, and one with a Low-Power FHD display. For working with home, I like the Low-Power because I can make it dim in a dark room. The 500 nit HDR displays can't be turned down enough to be comfortable for my eyes. Awesome in a bright office, or outdoor environment, not great for working from your couch.
Aluminum chassis, top and bottom, AND Lenovo seems to be getting aluminum anodizing and milling down to a fine science. Normally, aluminum products, made by anyone, are kinda sloppy with seams and fit being a little off. The last few recent Lenovo devices with aluminum chassis have been really good. Good enough to not set off my OCD.
As I write this, there is no build your own option for this model, because they just released it recently.
L13 Yoga Gen 2 (Intel)
If you owned an S1 Yoga (the first Thinkpad Yoga), way back in 2013, and loved it, you'll really like the L13 Yoga Gen 1, or Gen 2. They have the same case color, feel, pen-silo placement, and so forth. The Gen 2 does have an option for Integrated Intel Iris X Graphics, with the 11th Gen G7 SoC. A Thunderbolt 4 port has been added to the Gen 2, and it has a MicroSD card reader, which I really appreciate having. Keyboard on these feels deep and nice, even compared to more expensive Thinkpad Yoga products.
The display option, battery life, and so forth are very last year, but I've seen the Gen 1 as cheap as 700 USD, at retailers.
This is the Thinkpad Yoga if you want to get one just for travel, for a young person, carrying around at college, and similar. My S1 Yoga from 2013 has been loaned out many times, case paint rubbed down to the metal at the corners, and it still runs. The L13 Yoga has the same design language, and in some markets I believe they are actually called S2 Yoga Gen 5 and 6.
X13 Yoga Gen 2 (13" Intel)
Announced back on February 23rd, this 2-in-1 laptop has a lot of people very excited. It kinda has all the things.
Up to 11th Gen Intel (hopefully the nicer G7 SoC, as opposed to the lower powered one, but we'll see), with Integrated Intel Iris X Graphics. Premium graphics option, check.
Up to 32 GB LPDDR4 (4266MHz) RAM. More than 16GB RAM option, check.
52.8 Whr Battery, with rapid charge. Something more than a mid 40 Whr battery, check.
Integrated rechargeable pen stylus. Check.
13.3" 16:10 WQXGA or WUXGA sisplay options, Check. (This is incredible news, btw).
Thunderbolt 4 x2 Ports, check.
LTE WANN option, check.
Lighter than 3lb, at 2.65 lb, check.
POWER ON MoC TOUCH FINGER PRINT READER! (Applause, Check)
Black Carbon Fiber Hybrid color / chassis treatment, check
This is the Thinkpad Yoga I have been dreaming about since 2015. I can't think of a single thing I would add or take away from it. It might be perfect.
Press Release says it'll be around in April, starting at 1379 USD. Believe I will be lurking the Lenovo Website for sales and double coupons the latter part of the year. The rest of the Press Release is here.
X1 Titanium Yoga (13.5" Intel) Gen 1
There's a lot to talk about here, but the main reason to get one of these is the 3:2 Aspect Ratio display option.
The 13.5" QHD (2256 x 1504) IPS, anti-reflective, anti-smudge, touchscreen with Dolby Vision, 450 nits has 1200:1 contrast ratio (better than average), with 72% NTSC Color Gamut (average).
But, it's a 3:2 aspect ratio, 2-in-1 Thinkpad Yoga. That said, I haven't held one in my hands, or used one. The general warning with some of the Thinkpad Yoga products for 2021, the keyboard isn't as deep or nice as usual. With how thin and light they are getting Thinkpads, that isn't a surprise. I suspect that this model might have that issue. If you're all right with a shallower feeling keyboard, and just gotta have a 3:2 aspect ratio 2-in-1, maybe pull the trigger on this one.
X1 Nano Gen 1 (13" Nano)
This isn't a Thinkpad Yoga, but because of the Thinkvision M14t portable pen display, I feel like the Nano needs to get talked about a little bit. The non-touch screen, WiFi only model, is 1.99 lbs. The M14t portable pen display is about a 1.5 lb. With a Nano and a an M14t display, one could have a dual-display option, all Think branded, for about the same weight as an X1 Yoga Gen 6. Also, the Thinkpad Nano has a really nice 2K (I love 2k) 16:10 aspect ratio, low power, 100% sRGB color gamut, display.
Having a portal rig that light, with a dual-display set up would be amazing. I could have my basis pics and reference work on the Nano's display, while I was drawing or writing on the M14t. If you're a digital artist that works with two display, one above the other, this could be a silver bullet for working mobile. There is a touch-screen model for the Nano, but I don't recommend getting that to work with a pen display.
Windows 10 really struggles to parse more than one touch screen, or pen display, connected. Getting your pen stylus buttons to work is tough. If the X1 Nano + M14t Setup sounds awesome, get the non-touch display option. It's lighter, and your pen stylus settings should just work on the portable display without fiddling. The M14t display monitor is a really good buy, just in general, because it is one of those products that doesn't come around too often.
Finding an M14t monitor could be tricky. It is often sold out, so some hunting and lurking online may be required.
Non-Yoga Thinkpads
The standout models here are basically anything with an AMD chipset (yay, options!), and the the Thinkpad T15g.
I've recommended a few AMD models since they've been a regular offering in different Thinkpad lines. All good news, people are happy, and I'm much relieved the recommendations worked out. I figured they would, but like most folks that live in Thinkpad Land, we're a little nervous about big changes.
What I'm not nervous about is the Thinkpad T15g.
It's a desktop replacement option that isn't in the X1 line (and limited in configuration options), or in the P Series (expensive, NVIDIA Quadro standard). It has processor options that range from the Core i5-10400H up to a Xeon W-10885M. It's listed as being compatible with all the Linux, Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise, Ubuntu, and so forth.
Graphics Options are NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or 2080 SUPER Max-Q.
It can have up to 128 GB of RAM, DDR4 or ECC for models with a Xeon Processor.
Up to two M.2 2280 SSD drives, with 2 TB each.
There's standard FHD display options, a UHD option, and an OLED UHD option with a 100,000:1 Contrast Ratio, 100% DCI-P3 Color Gamut. With that particular option, a pen stylus will work on it.
The Thinkpad T15g is big (6 lb), and ugly (standard Thinkpad Black chassis finish), but you could work, and game on it with pretty equal ability. It's a Thinkpad ... but for gaming, too?

Last year may not have gone down as one of the best years we had, if anything, comparing it to a dumpster fire wouldn’t be too far off .
In a year where so many things went wrong, video games were pretty much one of the very few Highlights that stood out in 2020.

Erik Used To Mess With My Music
In the beginning, I had gone through 3 cell phones. Not because they were broken. They worked fine. The phone services were shit. Had to break an at&t contract, tried sprint and then landed on metro pcs. So because of this I firmly believe HE DID mess with my phones.
On the first phone, even though it happened a lot, I thought it was broken or something. It was when it happened on the SECOND phone a lot that I started to think Erik was sending me messages on my phone. It always happened just as a new song was playing, somewhere in the middle or a minute before it finished.
Like for instance:
I'm listening to my emo/depressed playlist, he changed it to a happy song way outside of that playlist. One of them was Goodmorning by GroupLove.
We were talking about some perverted stuff to be funny before I got in the shower. A song cut into a pervy one while my ex walked into the bathroom to get something. I laughed so hard.
I was working on my computer (kind of like how he worked on cars), adding a secondary OS and cleaning out the dust in my tower. I ran into an issue in BIOS and I didn't know what to do. So Erik told me to clear everything out, call it a loss of data and just start over and partition correctly. After I freaked out of course. Then The Man by The Killers. I had partitioned the wrong drive and forgot a major step in installing the Linux OS distribution. At the time Rick was just a friend and tried to help me too by choosing an OS suitable for someone who works with graphics.
Generally if he wanted to convey a message to me, he would change my music.
I miss those days. Back then, my telepathy was 0. Now these days he will just break out into song in my head or tell me to play a specific song. We jam on our guitars together. He would even help me remember lines if I can think of it. Or he would try to help me with the song titles in a game of charades lmao 🤣. Honestly I really liked when he changed music on my phones. To me it was more meaningful and it brightened my day.
😘💕 Have a wonderful day my loves!
