Unshaven, with a few more pounds on him...but it's definitely him.

The last time she saw him, he was sitting at the defence table, and she was boxed into the witness stand, a frightened little bird secure in a makeshift cage. Whatever he had done to the sixteen other women before he found her - his masterpiece - he was set to do to her and make it last days, weeks, months even.

But he was cocky. He edged himself. He wanted Amara so afraid of him, that the fear would soak into her bones and leave her paralysed by the time he unbuckled his belt. Fuck-puppet, is what he told her she'd be.

That arrogance meant days went by and he didn't lay a hand on her. Her family were dead and rotting in the kitchen one floor below, a single bullet to the head for each of them, execution-style. Amara was the only one left. Aegon took her face in his hand and cooed to her like a dove.

I'll be your Daddy now. Your Momma too if you behave. You are going to behave, aren't you?

She still had some fight then. She hurled it in his face in the form of saliva. He rewarded her with a slap so brutal, she bit her tongue and the wound festered for days before they rescued her and took her to be treated.

He kept her drunk, and when the alcohol didn't work well enough, he'd use drugs. Otherwise, she'd scream endlessly as her mind cycled through the murder of her family, over and over until she was hoarse. He wanted to talk to her. The alcohol calmed her down to a slur, and besides, that was how she got her nickname. Starlight. In a dazed state, as he leaned forward to look down the front of her top ("pink lacy bra...you're a little whore, aintcha?"), she'd giggled and said his hair looked like threads of starlight.

Even then, half out of her mind, she saw his eyes gleam with greed. She saw the horrors that were waiting. He stroked her cheek and whispered, "God...you smell good...shampoo and baby powder...pretty...little...girl..." and she knew he was going to do things to her that she couldn't fathom in her wildest nightmares. But she was so drugged out, it didn't matter.

When they took her from him, they said his pants were down and his cock was in her mouth. She doesn't remember that part. They said he'd thrown a tantrum when they pulled them apart, more upset that he wasn't going to have her and not that he was going to jail for a long, long time.

They said they'd never release him. No chance of parole. Life sentence.

So how the fuck is he on her phone screen, grinning as if he never left?

Finarfin Fades.

No one expects it, no one’s faded in Valinor since Miriel. The War of Wrath is won and he comes back, waving off the courtiers, well wishers, and congratulators with his usual grace, and walks into the palace of Tirion. To rooms abandoned since their owners left so long ago. Winding deeper and deeper his feet take him to what was once Finwë’s favourite garden.

He’s so tired.

He’s fulfilled his promise to Fëanaro and Nolofinwë, to avenge them. To make the agony of their final moments - agony Finarfin felt, falling to the floor screaming as fire and darkness consumed his spirit - count for something. Now Morgoth is finally gone, but he’s not the only one.

His brothers, larger than life, larger than death, are gone. With them his sons. Niece. Nephews. Grandchildren. His daughter is never to return. He Saw little Nelyo’s death in his dreams and is sure hopes for the child’s own sake that Makalaurë will be close behind.

Little remains. Even less on these golden shores.

So Finarfin sits on a bench long overgrown with vines and weeds, and watches the sun filter through the thicket, wishing the ghosts he sees in his father’s garden would flesh out.

He sits. He waits.

And by the time anyone finds him, it’s too late.

…at least he’s smiling again.

I’m still seething about Matt recognizing Heather’s portrait, so I’m now headcanoning that (terrible writers’ decision) as perception bias.

Matt was (subconsciously?) scared Muse would go after someone he knows/cares about.

Matt feels (😩) a portrait with curly hair.

Matt knows Heather has curly hair, tricks himself into deciding what he feels of the drawn face is Heather even though he has no way to know, rushes out to save her.

In another universe where every Matt villain doesn’t conveniently go to his therapist girlfriend, that portrait is NOT of Heather and Matt rushes to save the wrong person because HE’S BLIND.

Hey is there any way to do a sympathetic or even good-aligned Orange Lantern? We’ve had sympathetic/good red lanterns, yellow lanterns, star sapphires…I feel like orange is next, but how can avarice/greed be good? Maybe a character with a god complex is so bad it wraps back around from being a flaw to a virtue—like, maybe they’re so greedy that they think of the entire universe as being part of their possession, so anything that threatens the universe is something they would fight against. Like the same kind of vibe as a dragon that thinks of an entire village as their hoard, so they protect the village. Or maybe their greed manifests itself as greed for knowledge or greed for worship or greed for friends/allies (as, perhaps, types of “power”), so even if they’re not like fully heroic necessarily, they can still be complex and complicated and can play off of the other Lantern Corps in interesting ways.
