This was back in february and almost all of them arrived on time for Valentine's Day which was a very funny timing. I love sending physical mail so much and all the more when it allows me to haunt my friends with their favorite characters addressing them/their OCs directly...

I changed the handwriting for each character, trying to adapt it to the kind of person that they were (I didn't go fishing for canon examples of it, just made some up myself hgbgh), wrote using pens, pencils, fountain pens or printing depending on what I felt fit each of them best, and also varied the kind of medium they used: actual proper letter paper, or printer paper with graphic elements on them, or crappy notebook paper... And it was all so fun to do ;v;

I suck at graphic design and in this case? It at least felt very befitting for Springfield Elementary. Look at this catastrophically gaudy thing, printed on crappy cheap paper, and tell me that's not on-brand.

I genuinely made it the traditional way, on a plastic cel on which I drew the lineart on one side, and painted the colors with gouache on the other... It came out much better than I hoped it would and I'm so happy about it :] ♥

I'm in North Carolina. My hometown and my current city didn't get it very bad, just some power outages and downed trees and some flooding nearby. But I grew up going to and loving the places that got it bad.

Like I've said before, I think it's a collective trauma for the whole state to some extent. I've seen electronic billboards in my area saying things like enduraNCe and Overcome Together with the state bird off to the side and NCStrong and things like that. Of course at every event we have donations are being taken, and many local businesses are donating a percentage of their profits or taking weekly donations of food and other items. Also lots of people from other parts of the state are going there to volunteer or as active duty NC National Guard or professional emergency responders or linemen, etc.

What I can tell you from reading online communities of people in the thick of it is that Katrina survivors were there giving out advice and hugs and empathy and understanding. I also saw Helene survivors giving tips and empathy to people in Florida when Milton was on the way.

I agree it's mostly people far removed from either and who just perform online for strangers who get in these arguments.

I know one thing Katrina survivors told people in the Asheville Reddit was to tape up your refrigerator with the most high grade tape you could and get it out of your house and DO NOT open it.

Oh dear, I do have a lot of thoughts. (Real quick though, I should put a disclaimer that I know a lot more about Michael than Helen, so even though I adore them both this might be a little skewed toward the former.)

The thing I really like about Michael is how much it sucks at its job. It’s supposed to be the throat of lies and manipulation, but part of it is Michael Shelley of all people, aka the worst guy for the role. And we can see that in how it acts. It harbors feelings of sympathy toward archival assistants instead of trapping them in its hallways forever. It desires to be understood, even though the act of such goes against its nature and would tear it apart. Despite what it claims, it is at least somewhat a “who”.

To be honest, I’m kind of sad they killed it off, even though without its death we wouldn’t have Helen (who contrasts it by being the perfect person for the role). I think that’s why I like the “Michael lives but it’s not human or the distortion anymore” AUs. In my mind, it feels plausible that when the “what” part of Michael moved vessels, the “who” part was left behind, still there but fundamentally changed. How would it feel to live life completely devoid of the confines of physics, only to be trapped back in a pathetic, sweaty mortal body and forced to hang out with the people you despise? (Because let’s face it, they are not letting it outside unsupervised.) There’s so much comedy and angst potential. (And then after the eyepocalypse, Helen can be your next target.)

It’s kinda random, but I have a very vivid image in my mind of post-101 Michael, still very much like 6’5, whining about being short to Jon and Martin. “Michael you could be a professional basketball player.” “It doesn’t count if I can’t stretch myself as tall as a house :{”

the thing is that if jonathan sims and sydney sargent met, i do not think they'd get along. it'd be like epic rap battles autism vs. adhd. sydney would take one good look at jon and go "this man has zero sense of whimsy and fun i want him dead" and jon would take one good look at sydney and go "this man is dead. who did this. is he an avatar. i am scared get me out of this fucked up summer camp"
