In my Role Swap AU where Glimmer was raised in the Horde (The Dark Princess), she can summon wings of smoke using dark magic.

as much as i hate horde prime i gotta admire how he showed up and humbled the fuck out of everyone. like SO many characters had an Oh Fuck moment where they realised there was so much more to everything than whatever feelings they had about the war on etheria. like he's the fucked up reason why catra and adora managed to rekindle their bond. and why glimmer was able to see she was wrong and apologise to the best friend squad. and the catalyst for glimmer and catra's friendship. and why hordak was able to realise he cared more about the genuine love he had from one person on etheria than anything else he'd ever achieved there. in conclusion I LOVE SEASON 5 YOU CAN PRY IT FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS.

I saw a post here on Tumblr once that went something like "in a world where god, Jesus, and the apostles are all men, that has to do something psychologically to women" and it made me think: The Netflix version of the show "She-Ra Princess of Power" is a show that is HEAVILY women centric. We know maybe three guys in power, King Micah (who, after his return from Beast Island, wasn't *really* in power), the head sorcerer in Mystacor, Hordak/Horde Prime. (please do correct me if I am wrong) The show, albeit about princesses, has the princesses have actual roles. Even the ones that are "weak" or perceived to be weaker than the others (read: Perfuma), are extremely powerful.
The two men whom we consistently meet in the show other than Hordak, Bow and Seahawk, are not the "macho man" in most shows. Seahawk sings an entire shanty as to how lonely he is and how he just wants to be friends with Mermista, and Bow cries and even hugs frequently all the other characters in the show. Both talk about their emotions and work through them in /relatively/ healthy ways (the Dragon's Daughters 1-3 will be sorely missed). My point being, is that the women in the show are shown as strong, beautiful, muscular, fierce, sad, frustrated, loving, traumatized, hurt, laughing, and more. They all have different body shapes/ types of bodies. There are three openly gay couples: Bow's dads, Spinerella and Netossa, and Catra and Adora. Incredible! In a kids show (and adults too lets be real) there are three openly gay couples. No one treats them any different. Bow is one of 13 kids of George and Lance. No one bats an eye. In fact, according to She-Ra Wiki page (https://she-raandtheprincessesofpower.fandom.com/wiki/LGBTQIAP%2B), so many characters are queer. Besides the ones listed above: - Scorpia and Perfuma are romantically involved - Bow is Bisexual - Glimmer is Bisexual - Mermista is Bisexual - Seahawk is Bisexual (dated Falcon) - Falcon is Gay - Lonnie is Poly and Bisexual (dating Rogelio and Kyle) - by extension Rogelio and Kyle are queer - Entrapta is bi - Jewelstar is trans - Peekablue is gender non-conforming - Double Trouble is nonbinary and there is MORE In the show, as there are a ton of non humans, almost any time we meet someone, she/her pronouns are used (see episodes when Best Friend Squad are in the crimson waste). Can't you see how amazing this is? A show where there are no one-dimensional characters, women are constantly having intelligent conversation with one another, women are leaders, women working together, openly queer characters, and a beautiful plot line where there's magic???? When the princesses work together, they turn into the colors of the rainbow and their powers are enhanced. Little girls are getting to see themselves as normal. Women aren't treated as secondary citizens. Hell, almost every Bright Moon guard we see is female. How would the world be different if shows like this were the norm? Where women are able to be magical, and they aren't dressed to show off their bodies? Where women's armor actually protects them? Where they grunt and are sweating after they fight? Where womens' love wins? Why can't this be normal? (Happy Pride!)

c//a stans when adora wants to be a hero to help and protect glimmer: wtf this is so toxic! glimmer is making adora work too hard and she doesn't even appreciate it. adora owes glimmer nothing!
c//a stans when adora is forced to sacrifice her own happiness or safety for catra's sake: i see nothing wrong here

After years of trying to write this into a fic, I decided to just be unconventional and do it like this for the Summer SPOPtacular prompt: Roasting Marshmallows
Bow's marshmallow is perfectly toasted because he patiently rotated it for a nice even browning
Catra's is on fire on purpose because she loves the instant gratification and contrast of char and sweet
Adora's is on fire accidentally because she tried to prove that she could make a perfectly toasted one much faster and efficiently than Bow could and tragedy ensued
Glimmer's marshmallow no longer resembles a marshmallow or even food because she tried to use magic out of impatient competitive spite and it went horribly wrong
Then I got bored of drawing hands but here are some more as supplied by the local children of my acquaintance...
Mermista is roasting de-hydrated cereal marshmallows she has re-hydrated just to flex
Sea Hawk is at the hospital because he set his marshmallow on fire and then ate it that way
Entrapta is just eating handfuls of mini marshmallows and encouraging the others to experiment so she can note the results (see: Sea Hawk)
Hordak isn't interested in eating marshmallows, but is taking particular joy in finding optimal sticks for the others to use
Perfuma is using the fire to make everyone a soothing pot of althaea officinalis (Marshmallow) Root Tea because she doesn't approve of the corn syrup in artificial marshmallows
Scorpia is happily scarfing down the homemade, corn syrup free marshmallows Perfuma made that are suspiciously pre-burnt (but she doesn't mind)
Forsta tried freezing her marshmallows and nearly cracked a tooth when she bit into one
Lonnie keeps trying to get the perfect roast and getting impatient and just eating them raw
Kyle's marshmallow ended up in the coals
Rogelio's marshmallow is a hot dog
Huntara's marshmallow is a horrifying giant bug thing she killed that has Micah salivating with envy
Wrong Hordak is roasting Peeps (no one knows where he even got them from)

How I think She-ra characters would swear/how they feel about swearing!
(feel free to let me know your opinions on these, whether you disagree or agree)
Adora
I feel like growing up in the horde as a sort of "teachers pet", she would see swearing as disrespectful, even after leaving the Horde I think she would subconsciously hold on to this habit
In later seasons she would let loose a couple swears during really emotional moments, but never in anger
Catra
Definitely swears a lot, most often casually
would swear when she's frustrated or joking but less often when she's genuinely angry or just being sincere in general
Glimmer
in earlier seasons every single sentence has a cuss word in it
As queen I dont think she would swear that often, probably as a way of trying to more like her mother, but definitely swears A LOT when she's angry
Bow
I feel like in his own head he swears a lot, but less often out loud
As the show goes on he would definitely let lose quite a few when he's emotional and one or two just for comedic effect, as a treat
Perfuma
She does not like swearing but sometimes her emotions boil over and she does swear, immediately feels bad if it's directed at a person. This girl needs a soundproof rage room
Mermista
Swears regularly, just about as much as any other person, not much else to say.
Similar to Catra I don't think she would swear when she's being genuine
Seahawk
Only really uses minor ones like "hell" and "damn", maybe an occasional "WHATTHEFUCK". I do not think he has ever said any others, he thinks he's a sexy poet and swearing would contradict this image
Frosta
Knows only the ones she's heard from the rest of the rebellion say, uses them EXCESSIVELY
She thinks they're funny and takes great joy in calling Horde robots and soldiers very colorful names
Scorpia
Not very often, and usually either to exaggerate or for comedic purposes (I do not know how to describe it but think her calling Tung Lashor a "weird ass name")
Entrapta
I do not think she would swear often at all, not because she thinks it's impolite, but because she doesn't usually feel the need to use them.
Swiftwind
Swears casually and usually when it is not socially acceptable in the slightest.
Swiftwind flying around and saying "FUCK YEAH"
Angella
Views swearing as impolite, although doesn't comment much on other people swearing aside from Glimmer
I wouldn't say she would argue with her or ground her, more like a quick "language 😡"
Shadow Weaver
Would not swear ever, it would ruin her (according to her) regal, intelligent image
Hordak
Doesn't swear, understands at least that it's an Etherian thing and takes other people swearing in his presence as a sign of disrespect
Horde Prime
Doesn't really know what swearing implies, only really sees it as another primitive custom of the planets he's conquered. Like if somone swore at him he would be more insulted by the tone rather than the choice of words
Double Trouble
Definitely only really used as an emphasizer or to make whatever they're saying more dramatic
Micah
At first he did not like and was frankly appalled by Adora, Bow, and more often (almost entirely) Swift Wind's swearing while on Beast Island because like who are these people to say such words around my lil baby girl. Couple things clicked into place when he found out everything
Only swears himself when he's REALLY angry *cough* Shadow Weaver *cough*
Castaspella
Not much to say other than she's similar to her brother, only really swears when she's angry *cough* *cough* Shadow Weaver *cough*
Lonnie
Sorry Lonnie fans I don't have much to say here
Probably more often than Mermista but less often than Catra
Kyle
I think it would be funny if whenever he swore everyone would be like "wowww Kyle, swearing??? Cussing??? Do you know how disrespectful that is??? You're so crude" even though basically everyone else swears, including in front of him
Rogelio
Ask me how I'm supposed to know this
(He swears just as often as Lonnie, they are one in the same in this aspect)

In She-ra there was a similar way of touching someone's face and here I find it even more interesting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was mainly Shadow Weaver's thing: she did it when she manipulated her kids, was controlling them and kinda even grooming (especially when it came to Adora and Glimmer). Even the first time when SW touched Arora's face was when she realized how strong Adora is and when she found out she can use her. It's hard to say what she meant by it when she did to Mikah, may it was even a genuine love? Or may be to show him she's stronger now and has control over magic he never had, consider that she was jealous of him for being more powerful than her. There are could be many interpretations actually.
But it was very important when it came to Catra. Every time SW touched Catra it was either manipulating, or "putting her in her place". The only time she did it with love was in the perfect universe. Makes you feel truly sorry for Catra.
Tumblr media
I can say for sure that Catra took this thing from Shadow Weaver, because she also loved doing it to Adora. Firstly when she was showing her "who's in control now", and then when she kissed her. Adora imagined Catra touching her like this was even before Catra did it to kiss her and before it happened Adora also did this to Catra. And when saving Catra which paralleled Catra missing Adora. So we have a reason to think that Adora took it from SW as well. A family tradition Ig.
Tumblr media
Other times when it was done by someone outside of this lil family it was used by Horde Prime when he showed Hordak love by it and then shower him he is in control. Similar to the way SW and Catra did it. And then we see Hordak doing it to little Adora, which somehow could represent the way he wanted it to be done with love by Horde Prime to him. HP have also done it to Catra and Glimmer, showing he has control over them, huh.
Double Trouble did it to Catra twice. Firstly when they were making fun of her and then they made Catra do this while pretending to be Adora. Which could also show Catra's false control to Adora she desires to get.
Tumblr media
And the only time when it was done as a genuine act of love not by an abuser was done by Angell, a good mother, to people she loved and cared about. That was actually sweet

i thought this would be more effective in video format, so...
because i've never seen anyone bring it up before, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS?!
it's not the first time we've seen either form of she-ra (although it was still very early on), but it is her grand entrance in both cases.
also, while we're here:
