Watching G1 Transformers "BOT"

One last time/relax, have a drink with me...

Here we go. The Final episode of the OG cast of G1. The last normal ep before Everybody Dies. Here we go.

We open with Bruticus running around and apparently Megsy's brainwashing didn't do that much to change their personalities.

Things are back to normal between Megs and Screamer. Which is Screamer points out the dumb flaws, Megs ignores, etc.

Swindle is...trying to sell their spare parts? Geez. Anyway this ep is really weird so far. I can barely follow what's going on.

Oh no. Three whole annoying humans. And they're assholes. Please don't be in this episode much.

Finally there's the autobots! This is like their last episode you'd think they'd be doing more.

Three humans find Brawl's brain. Oh no. Our awful species screwing things up for cybertron, again.

Swindle sure isn't having a good day here. Anyway one of the bots quips 'this is so degrading' Yeah your last hurrah could've been a bit grander.

I think I'll head canon Revenge of Bruticus as the true Season 2 finale, this feels more like a filler ep that got aired out of order.

Yay Bruticus is repaired finally maybe something cool will happen now. And it does, Meg and Co are gonna fire on the bots! That feels like a season finale thing.

Weirdly Bruticus gets his ass kicked really easily though? Last episode he was kicking Megsy's ass and now one of the autobots takes him down.

Someone actually called Starscream Screamer! I don't think I've ever heard that. Not sure which autobot it was.

The cons sure are getting their asses kicked in this episode. Also the girl is the only one of the human trio who's even remotely useful or tolerable, as per usual.

Did Bruticus just fire at Screamer!? Or rather the humans are. Holy shit it got Soundwave too! STOP HITTING MY FAVORITES YOU ANNOYING HUMAN A-HOLES.

HOLY SHIT DID THOSE DIPSHITS PUT A GAG ON HER AND NOBODY DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT!? The autobots are sociopaths damn. Even Megs didn't gag Astoria when he caught her.

Anyway well, pretty lame way to say goodbye to the OG cast. At least they could've gone out with dignity.

But oh man. We're at the movie. What a wild ride with the OG cast. Guess tomorrow I get to see all my faves die. I'm not ready.

Shame wouldn't have a continuity because TFOne Starscream has a quite good reason why he would want to usurp Megatron power, like imagine you are the trained military leader with multiple years in activity just for a person with 0 military skills becomes the leader of your army?

I bet Shockwave would love it because Megatron has no knowledge of what he is approving at all and don't want to ask to not appear dumb lol

Would be fun to see both Optimus and Megatron learning how to do their jobs properly, like imagine Megatron didn't think of using air support because he is a miner and Starscream just

Even though I doubt they would even think of doing something like that and would make both OP and Megatron tactical geniuses.

Also for OP would be fun if he just makes shit up and somehow it works and everyone, even himself, is impressed when it works out.

Elita is just losing her mind trying to make sense in OP logic, while Bee excell on being a soldier but he still needs a lot of guidance to do his work properly.

What I'm saying is that TFOne war would be a comedy of errors where Starscream is the only one that understands how absurd everything is and after some time just accepts he is somehow being punished by Primus himself.

One thing that I absolutely love about TFOne's writing is that it manages to avoid a lot of the heavier criticism I've seen regarding MegOp's hero/villain dynamic over the years (trust me, the mid-2010s TF discourse was crazy)

*Spoilers Below*

First of all, the narrative benefits so much from the main 4 cast members all being a part of the same exploited mining class. So many takes on MegOp have Orion being of a higher status (an archivist, a cop, etc) while Megatron is much lower down on the social latter (a miner, a gladiator, often in the context of being a slave).

I've seen many people be put off by this, because it feels as if Megs is being villianized for being rightfully angry at the system that deeply harmed and exploited him, while Orion/Optimus is praised for taking a more pacifistic stance despite him not suffering as much from or in some ways even benefiting from the system he claims to oppose. I don't find their dynamic to be as simple as that, and I do find these takes to be a bit reductive, but I do very much see where they are coming from.

I am definitely one of those people who's very frustrated with the way pacifism is hailed as the one true path of morality, and the inherent implication that taking any sort of revenge on the people who abused/exploited you makes you just as bad as them. Also, Marvel's particular brand of demonizing any form of radical political action, despite the system clearly being broken and corrupt, but being completely unwilling to offer any other alternatives to meaningfully change things for the better.

When looking at what I described above its pretty easy to see how a lot of versions of MegOp's hero/villain dynamic unfortunately fits into that trope. Bringing it back to TFOne, you can see how Op and Meg coming from the same political/social status subverts this. The existence of Elita and Bee only further illustrates that out of the 4 people of the mining class who were all deceived, exploited, and literally mutilated in the same way it is only D-16 that completely loses himself to his rage, even to the point where he loses compassion for his own companions and disregarding the safety of the other miners (when he decides to "tears everything down" and Elita exclaims he's going to "kill everyone").

What I think I love most about the characterization in TFOne is that Orion is the radical one. Not only that, but he is praised by Elita and by extension the narrative for it. He is constantly challenging authority, and is the first to have the suspicion that their society is structured in an unjust way.

Meanwhile D-16, to be frank, is kind of a bootlicker. He fully believed in the system and that Sentinal Prime, as someone with power, had the right to decided "what was best" for those who are weaker/lesser (I wish I had the specific quote from D-16 to support this, but the movie's still in theaters). It illustrate that D-16 already held certain fascistic ideals, and that he and Orion already have fundamentally opposing moral/political values, it simply hasn't been of any consequence yet. It shows that their eventual falling out was inevitable, even if they had decided to rebuild Cybertron together.

It should also be noted that D-16's feelings of anger and betrayal do not necessarily have anything to do with the unjust system itself, but that said unjust system was predicated on a lie. Hence his fixation on deception in the post-credits scene and him naming his faction the Decepticons. Meanwhile, when Orion learns the truth he's just sort of like "yeah, I always kinda knew something was up" because again, he understood on some level that their system was predicated on injustice.

Even D-16's obsession with Megatronus Prime, while initially an endearing aspect of his character, is also an indicator of the questionably large amount of value he puts on one's strength. It foreshadows the "might makes right" ideology that the decepticons follow, and is a key part of their ideological characterization across continuities.

Instead of the narrative we often see in Transformers media were Optimus is idolized by the narrative for being more moderate and Megatron is villiainized for being radical (or so people often claim), it is instead Optimus who is rewarded and praised by the narrative for being radical, and Megatron who is villainized and punished by the narrative for holding potentially fascistic values.

I do agree with some criticism I've seen that the whole thing with killing Sentinel and D-16's final turn into villainy felt a bit rushed and more than a little cliche, but I also understand it both had a limited runtime and that it is ultimately a family film meant to be accessible to children. More importantly though, I think the movie set the groundwork early on that, no matter how this final act played out, D-16 was always going to turn to darkness, and Orion would not have been able to stop him.

Its perfectly tragic, the way all MegOp should be, while also feeling really well thought out from a thematic standpoint. I love it.

I know you mentioned on your OP+Megs+Ratchet ask adding in one or both of the scouts, but I can't help but imagine the sheer unparalleled comedy(ish) of the Autobots watching their entire high command (aka OP, Ratchet and Ultra Magnus, of all mecha) go gaga over some poor human. I think the other Autobots would be taking the human out for a spin if only so they can get a breather from everything. (I think Wheeljack would do it more/most often specifically because he knows it'll piss Ultra Magnus off.)

I also have the idea of Ultra Magnus almost being a stop gap for the other two's behavior for one reason or another (at least until he finds out that Megs is gunning for the human too).

To be honest, obsessed!Ultra Magnus would be the most exhausting to be around — and above all, the most tedious — of the entire Autobot Trinity, due to his pedantry and ironclad adherence to rules that weigh heavily on you as well. He’s intense, always keeping a vigilant optic on you, monitoring your every move to ensure you don’t accidentally hurt yourself. After all, the native life forms of this planet are especially fragile and must be protected 24/7, right? So, Ultra Magnus approaches Optimus for permission to take you under his care. To protect you from the Decepticons, of course. It’s not because his little fascination with you is slowly evolving into something deeper — a bond compelling him to stay close to you.

And Optimus agrees because he trusts Magnus and knows you’re in good hands, as he constantly worries about you himself.

The problem is that Magnus’s company is suffocating. Want to leave the base to get some fresh air, have a smoke, or just take a moment for yourself? The SIC of the Autobots is always a step behind, firmly reminding you that you can’t leave the hangar without Optimus’s permission. Don’t make him resort to bringing you back by force.

You can’t even hide in the base, find a quiet corner, and do your own thing, because one of them is always watching. Most often, it’s Ultra Magnus, who immediately gives you a lecture about staying within their line of sight—so you don’t accidentally get stepped on. It’s just an excuse, of course; Magnus simply has a stick so far up his aft that he can’t just admit he loves your company and feels strangely anxious and lost when you’re not around.

His microscopic knowledge of humans will also cause you countless headaches. All it takes is a sneeze, and Ultra Magnus is already dragging you to Ratchet, convinced you’re dying. And Ratchet takes your health matters very seriously, so you end up spending several minutes in the medbay, undergoing a thorough checkup. All the while, you are subjected to the medic’s grumbling about taking better care of yourself, under the intense gaze of the SIC of the Autobots, who’s tracking your every move and patiently waiting for the verdict.

The worst, however, is when you find yourself with the entire Holy Trinity in the base. None of them will ask you outright, “How was your day?” but everyone is dying to listen. This leads to a scenario where the Autobot elite huddles around you, hearts practically glowing in their optics, as you talk about workplace gossip or your current hobbies. The rest of the world ceases to exist for them. If the team wants their competent high command back, they have no choice but to pry them away from you.

Enter Wheeljack, who will occasionally whisk you away for private flying sessions in his ship, giving you a much-needed break. I think Arcee would take you for a ride a few times as well, unable to bear the sight of her superiors practically drooling over you. The long and detailed scolding they’ll receive from Magnus upon your return is another matter…

The SIC of the Autobots will immediately scoop you up into his servos before you can take another step and carry you straight back to Ratchet and Optimus, who can never get enough of your presence.

I like the idea of Bee and Rod being adoptive brothers because of a big decision Optimus made earlier. He was at the top of his career, then took a hiatus due to an injury, and suddenly dropped the news that he was expanding his family, casually. It’s kind of a mystery, really, since he’s not even married… is he?

I love the realization I had they are having now about how their pasts are actually connected because of Op!

Meanwhile Op is probably just at home, trying to catch up with everything…

The ponies are escalating. What started as a fun re-designing exercise, has now turned into a full blown AU.

So have a small comic, a family tree and some doodles and designs. As well as a few notes at the end with some explanations and small bits of lore.

Extra Notes:

I always liked the theory, that in TFA the protoform of Sari came from the Decepticons or more specifically Megatron.

I also find it incredibly hilarious how in Season 1, Megs keeps trying to build himself a new body, but just causes more sentient bots to be created, making him essentially a dad.

So I made both Soundwave and Sari his kids, although he only raised Soundwave (extremely reluctantly) and left Sari at a random door in a neutral town with her adoptive father Professor Sumdac.

I already have a few plot points focused around Megatron's family, mainly how his own raising impacted him as a father.

The idea of the 'cons giving up their kids is a reappearing theme. Since the Autobots and Decepticons are at war, a lot of 'cons leave their young in neutral towns, so they are not impacted by the war.

The Autobots are the complete opposites. They heavily rely on their community to help raise their young. Especially siblings help each other out.

As an example, Ultra Magnus and Alpha Trion were both single-fathers when raising OP, SP and RP, so they worked together. When one of them had a shift or had to go to the frontlines, the other took care of the kids. They also lived in the same house for convenience. This meant that cousins like OP and SP grew up seeing each other more as brothers.

The younger ponies also tend to early on become part of the war. In hard times, they would be considered the last line of defense and would be taking care of the younger fillies.

Some of the earlier, more saver missions young ponies get to do are reconnaissance/scouting missions, where small teams are sent out to look for new resources, allies and places to set up base.

On one these missions, Optimus's team ends up in the neutral town Sari is living in, known as Detroit. From there our story kicks off as Sari decides to set out together with Team Prime. This gets back to Megatron, who sends out his own team to track them down, determined to make sure Sari does not end up an Autobot.

• Gasping as an arm curls around you and you’re pulled back into your mass displaced Seeker, you didn’t even hear him sneak up on you. Heart racing, you try to figure out how he can be so damn silent when he wants to be and you feel him press his face against the back of your neck, venting to stir your hair. “Bad day?” You ask, reaching up an arm and he clears his vents aggressively, pressing his cheek against your palm.

• Bad is an understatement. Normally, he can talk about it, vent to you. But this? Running into Megatron unexpectedly has left him shaken. Because underneath the attitude and bravado, he’s still afraid and he hates it. “I need you,” he growls. Needs a distraction, to take that jittery edge off.

• Know that tone. He ran into Megatron again. “I’m right here,” you whisper, turning in his arms and pulling his head down. Going up on tiptoe to kiss him as his hands impatiently start stripping you. Know he’s going to take out that frustration and anger on you, that he might get a little rough with you. And that he’ll feel guilty afterward even though you never complain. “I’m not going anywhere.” Heart aching for what he’s been through. He’s only shared bits and pieces, but it’s enough to know that he’d suffered at Megatron’s hands.

• Why do you have to wear so many layers of coverings? Stripping you, he spins you and bends you over the human sized berth he’d made for you before he’d started demanding you sleep with him where he can hear you, feel you and know you’re safe. Palm sliding down your spine, he cups you. Spears a servo inside you, stroking impatiently as you grow slick for him. And then freeing his spike to stretch you in a slow, deliberate drive of his hips. “This is mine,” he snarls, hips pumping as his servos curl against your hips.

• Moaning, your fingers fist in your blankets. Hearing his aggressive rumbling growls, feeling the heat of him against your back as his wings flare. And if you’re his, then he’s definitely yours. Broken and awful as he can be, you need him like he needs you. You’re not even sure you can fix him or that you should try, those ragged edges as much a part of him as his spark. Spike driving deep as his hips snap against you, he’s almost too rough. Urgently rutting against you, ruthlessly driving you to that peak and you’re aware that you’re mindlessly begging for it.

• Moving against you, his mouth and denta skim the back of your shoulder. Feels you tighten on him, trembling as you come apart and he bites with a groan, denta gripping your shoulder as he keeps thrusting. Riding it out as long as he can before he’s overloading, filling you as you slump under him and he follows you down mindful of his weight. Feeling your heart racing as he keeps rocking lazily against you just to make you fist his spike before dragging his glossa against the marks his denta left on your soft skin. “Want to talk about it?” You ask, voice shaky and soft and he presses his helm against the back of your shoulder. Not yet. Doesn’t want that mech’s name to taint this, because this is his and no one will take it or you from him.

Megatron and Starscream only want eachother because they are the rebound after losing their exes.

Starscream has Orions colors and Megatron has skyfires size.

Now for a rarepair.

Skyfire and optimus.

Optimus has starscreams colors and skyfire has Megatrons size.

Except both skyfire and OP make it work, instead of just wanting eachother due to the reminder fo what they lost, they grow to see the other as is, to learn to let go and see each other in ways no other has seen.

They have much in common and know how mush it hurts to lose the one you love.

But for Megatron and Starscream its the opposite.

Megatron only sees Star as Orion and Starscream only sees Megs as skyfire, that’s why they argue and fight so much.

Because they aren’t acting like the one they lost should.

It’s in fleeting moments when star acts like Orion and it gives Megatron a reason to keep him around and stay with him. But the moment Starscream acts like himself, it breaks the facade and reminds him of who and what he lost.

It’s the exact same for Starscream. He can’t let skyfire go and Megatron can’t let Orion go.

They are angry at eachother not for who they are but who they are not.

If they knew how to move on, they could learn to love the other for who and what they are.

Skyfire is everything Starscream could’ve been.

Optimus is everything Megatron should’ve been.

Optimus and skyfire healed.

Megatron and Starscream didnt.
