Research 2/3
Next in the research I looked at was Huang Yong Ping, Chinses French artist and teo of his works I looked at in particular for my projeect were the Ressort

and the Serpent d'Ocean

Both are absolutely massive constructs of a massive skeleton of a snake,
For my project 'Movement' I want to depict the slither of a dancing snake and Huang's work also gives me ideas of the construction and materials to use. Especially in the behind the scenes of Ressort, showing the assembly of the snake.

Reviews (summaries) of a few of the drama adaptations for [Legend of the Condor Heroes]/ 「射鵰英雄傳」 from the last three decades:
*Drama posters are from oldest to latest (from left to right, top to bottom)
1983 version (starring Barbara Yung and Felix Wong):
Too young to remember and never rewatched. A feted classic from Hong Kong TVB’s heyday. The only thing I will unequivocally say I love about this version is the iconic theme songs, which are the only musical tracks I can easily recall and identify when it comes to the numerous adaptations.
1994 version (starring Athena Chu and Julian Cheung):
First love. Good performances. Beautiful and ultra-cute JingRong. Favourite balance of visuals for JingRong. Solid production (HK TVB). Newish classic. Faithful to the main storylines. The version which made me fall for Guo Jing and the saga. Sometimes, however, first love only goes so far.
2003 version (starring Zhou Xun and Li Ya Peng):
Gritty. Jiang Hu. Sweeping epic. Mature vibes. Tragic and heartbreak-tinged. Faithful to the main storylines. Brilliant JingRong. Elegantly cultured Huang Rong. Earnestly chivalrous Guo Jing. Love both the portrayals of Guo Jing and Huang Rong (despite the many criticisms received). Loved the veteran gravitas of many of the supporting casts. Performances were fabulous. My only gripe is with Yang Kang (and his actor, Zhou Jie, whose performance I was not especially partial to, but he did okay though). The best Mongolian segment(s) out of all adaptations. Favourite drama adaptation (to date). The main and ending theme songs are fantastic, and the opening track has quite an epic saga feel.
(Some audience disliked ZX’s portrayal, and criticisms abound about her using her own voice during the show - which is a bit husky - but I had absolutely no issues with it. I thought the criticisms weirdly petty, actually. As someone who does not find dubs at all nice, I appreciated her using her own voice/dub for the series. LYP also received his fair share of criticisms for his portrayal. Personally, I enjoyed both tremendously).
2008 version (starring Ariel Lin and Hu Ge):
An adaptation I skipped as neither mains appealed to me, and Liu Shi Shi as Mu Nian Ci was not enough of a draw to make me trudge through an adaption I read was not particularly faithful to the novels. Visuals and vibes wise, I just could not see Hu Ge as Guo Jing - which is simply a personal preference - but I do not doubt that his performance/portrayal would have been fine. That goes for the rest of the cast and their performances.
2017 version (starring Li Yi Tong and Yang Xu Wen):
Pretty. Vibrant aesthetics. Wuxia vibes. Relatively youthful. Commendable production. Sweet, lovey-dovey and affectionate JingRong. Cutie - and handsome - Guo Jing. Excellent Huang Rong. Faithful to the main storylines. Highly enjoyable. Main instrumental track a clever nolstagic callback to the classic Hong Kong songs/themes. Good production. Superb performances overall.
(I found this version’s GJ a bit too prettily handsome, which is lovely but also felt a bit not-GJ. Still enjoyed his portrayal a lot though).
2024 version (starring Bao Shang En and Ci Sha):
Strong Wuxia vibes. Solid aesthetics and production. Youthful. Squee-worthy JingRong. Adorably devious Huang Rong. Favourite Guo Jing and JingRong (to date). Wonderful performances all around. Faithful to the main storylines. Some distinct emotional beats.
Especially noteworthy was the beautifully shot and conveyed scenes from near the end during GJ’s mental and spiritual struggles with his grief and martial abilities. Superbly done and went to the heart of the novel’s themes.
Flaws included pacing and issues with storylines length. Uneven focus. Lack of epic-ness.
(Ci Sha is not really my cup-of-tea visuals wise but he looked and felt like what Guo Jing *should* be and his performance was compelling and layered. His portrayal embodied the 靖 of 郭靖, and I think that meant something significant. He truly came into his own by the last third when the confidence and composure GJ cultivated throughout the series made his nuanced portrayal fangirl-scream worthy. *fainting away* Love his steady, gentle and devoted GJ to bits. The focus and complexity they afforded Yang Kang in this version made him a much more complex and conflicted antagonist, which was fascinating. This Wanyan Hong Lie inspired major feelings for a character I already found especially interesting and tragi-complex since the 2003 adaptation. The soft-spot I have for him is too real).

sharing this China news network article about Guo Jing and the recent LOCH trailer.
this is particularly helpful for me as someone who has zero experience with anything LOCH related 🫶🏼
"Stupid child" Guo Jing "killed" most smart people in seconds
A trailer that "exploded" countless martial arts fans.
On the 23rd, the only martial arts movie "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great Hero" in the Spring Festival file, led by China Film Co., Ltd., co-produced by China News Network, directed by Tsui Hark, and starring Xiao Zhan and Zhuang Dafei, released the latest trailer, which quickly appeared on the hot search, and the turbulent martial arts world has a more tangible embodiment. Some viewers sighed "dreaming back to the golden age of martial arts" and began to look forward to this version of Guo Jing's style.
"The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great Hero" is adapted from the novel of the famous writer Jin Yong. In Jin Yong's martial arts world, Guo Jing is a key figure in the "Condor Trilogy", who is kind by nature, decent, affectionate, diligent and patriotic, and almost has the most exemplary chivalrous spirit in Jin Yong's pen.
Before becoming a hero, he had a very strong circle of friends, Hong Qigong and other masters taught him martial arts, the smart and witty Huang Rong was his strongest assistant, and later defended Xiangyang City, and there were also a group of people who were willing to follow him.
So, the question is, why is Guo Jing, who seems to be wooden, so likable?
01
The counterattack of the "silly child".
If you ask someone what their impression of Guo Jing is, the answer is likely to be "stupid child".
Guo Jing had bad luck in the early days. Guo Xiaotian and Li Ping originally lived a good life in Niujia Village, but they were framed and their families were ruined. Guo Jing lost his father, followed his mother to earn a living in the desert, and also learned Mongolian.
He's a bit of a goofy-headed, and he's slow to learn to speak. After the Seven Monsters of Jiangnan and Qiu Chuji made an appointment for a martial arts competition, they found Guo Jing and patiently taught him martial arts, but Guo Jing just didn't open his mind, and he didn't make much progress in practice.
In terms of adaptability, Guo Jing is not outstanding. He saved the "Sharpshooter" Jebe, and was forced to ask about Jebe's whereabouts by the pursuers. At this time, children who are smart often reply "I don't know", but Guo Jing's answer is "I don't say".
All kinds of actions made him look a little unsmart. But the core of this so-called "stupidity" is rare honesty. "Jin Yong fan" Liushen Lei Lei is more willing to use "sincere and loyal" to describe Guo Jing.
With honesty and kindness, he won the favor of Ma Yu of Quanzhen Sect, and his martial arts made progress, laying the foundation for the growth of "force value" in the future. After meeting Huang Rong, he always treated each other with sincerity, and also exchanged Huang Rong's sincerity.
As Guo Jing grows up, this kind of loyalty and sincerity becomes more and more powerful.
By chance, he and Huang Rong met the leader of the beggar gang, Hong Qigong, the beggar gang. Hong Qigong liked the food made by Huang Rong very much, and appreciated the simplicity of Guo Jing's nature, so he taught Guo Jing the eighteen palms of dragon descending.
Later, Guo Jing guarded Xiangyang City and had a dialogue with Kublai Khan, the commander of the Mongolian army. That's because Guo Jing never speaks carefully, he will say whatever he thinks in his heart, but it goes straight to the hearts of the people.
In fact, many classic literary works like to write about "silly children", such as Pierre in "War and Peace", etc., and Guo Jing is also one of them. Their sincerity helps them grow, and it is also like a mirror, reflecting the flies and dogs in the world.
02
Chivalrous spirit
"Chivalry" is the core soul of Jin Yong's novels, and many of Guo Jing's practices are the concrete embodiment of the chivalrous spirit.
For example, he admired Jebel's bravery, and in the face of coercion and temptation, he would rather die than betray Jebel. After the crisis was resolved, Zhebei gave him gold, but he didn't want it, but he just remembered his mother's teaching, "You must help the guest, not ask for the guest's things." ”
Due to the friendship of their parents, Guo Jing and Yang Kang were born as sworn brothers. After he met Yang Kang, he always took care of Yang Kang, hoping that he could change his evil and return to the right; After Yang Kang's death, he treated his son Yang Guo as his own and cultivated him as carefully as possible.
After breaking with Tuo Lei and others, Guo Jing did his best to protect Xiangyang City, and finally became a great hero praised by everyone in the martial arts.
The great man of chivalry is for the country and the people. For the selfish Yang Kang Ouyang Ke, these eight words are probably just a slogan, at most shouting two sentences to seek some benefits for themselves; But for Guo Jing, this is a promise that is heavier than Mount Tai, and he has been paying for it all his life.
Diligent, upright, responsible, patriotic...... Guo Jing is enough to afford the word "chivalry", and his huge personality charm has infected many people around him.
Of course, some people may say that without the assistance of the resourceful Huang Rong, Guo Jing would not have achieved so much. Indeed, Guo Jing's quality ceiling is very high, and whether or not this ceiling can be activated requires acquired factors. Huang Rong is an activating factor.
Then again, why is Guo Jing's personal quality ceiling high? The reason is that he has an ability: to gain the trust of others.
Dealing with the world requires a certain amount of emotional intelligence, but high emotional intelligence is not about being delicate and ruddering, but about making others trust you unconditionally. Guo Jing has similar excellent qualities. And the core of this quality is sincerity.
How you treat others, others will treat you, sincerity is always nirvana. When he didn't know Hong Qigong's identity, Guo Jing was still very friendly to him. Hong Qigong was also willing to teach him martial arts after learning about Guo Jing's personality.
Guo Jing followed the master little by little, and at the end of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", the "force value" was greatly improved, and he had the ability to go head-to-head with the master Qiu Qianren. Later, even if he made a move with the East and the West, he could support hundreds of moves to be undefeated.
There may be many opportunities in a person's life, but whether they can grasp it depends on whether they have the ability in the end.
03
Feelings of family and country
Counting carefully, as a big IP, the "Condor Trilogy" has had multiple film and television versions. These film and television dramas may have adapted the original work, but the direction of the story has basically not changed, Guo Jing has always been the hero who has the world in mind.
This role is actually not easy to play. Guo Jing should belong to the type of "wise and foolish", which looks a little wooden, but in fact he is not a person who fights or grabs, is very principled, practical and steady, and all kinds of subtle states are difficult to grasp.
In the past few decades, actors such as Huang Rihua, Zhang Zhilin, Hu Ge, and Yang Xuwen have all played Guo Jing, each with its own merits. The film and television version that is more recognized by the audience is the 83 version of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes", with a Douban score of 9.2 points.
Guo Jing in the 95 version of "The Condor Heroes" is also good, he is a middle-aged person, honest and simple, but he is very capable of fighting. Liushen Lei Lei remembers a scene, that is, Guo Jing beat Huo Du violently in Chongyang Palace, which looked very enjoyable.
Time passed, and people's enthusiasm for "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" did not dissipate. This can be seen from the popularity of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great Hero" after it was announced, and in the messages that frantically swiped the screen, thousands of words were combined into one word, "expectation".
Liushen Lei Lei once commented on "The Legend of the Condor Heroes": Writing plot characters is ever-changing; Writing about the feelings of the family and the country makes people's blood boil. This book is a sign that Jin Yong has become a master. The upright and kind Guo Jing is the person who has family and country feelings.
Some people once said that Jin Yong's heroes are "superheroes" in the Chinese context. Guo Jing, who is endowed with a deep traditional Chinese concept and loyalty and filial piety, affects his growth and reminds him to become a responsible person.
There is no martial arts in life, but there may be various choices and tests. Just like Guo Jing, keep your heart pure, don't ask for everything to go well, but seek to be worthy of your heart.

Weekend links, June 1, 2025
My posts
First things first: I LOVE Pride month on Tumblr, but those posts won't be reflected in the Weekend Links until next time.
Reminder that Silent Hill 2 commentary #5 is up; I managed to record #6 this past week in two days rather than, you know, a MONTH. I'm very tired from... everything this past week, but we are moving at a better pace with the writeup this time, certainly. I know these are long, so I'm going to be cutting more clips along the way if you want to dip in here and there. Here's my eternal struggle getting Maria into the secret garage.
(I accidentally sideblogged on main yesterday and had to delete that post, mostly because I didn't want something so close to the big game spoiler out there for the unsuspecting. It's not a state secret, though. It's a wobbly commentary outtake about why I want you to like James for as long as you can, and I wish that at the time I'd thought to phrase it as "James is experiencing Silent Hill as the best version of himself to pay for the worst version of himself.")
Ian's Wednesday stream (I just got to Brookhaven Hospital and he just left it) is here. I'm in the chat--we talk back and forth a good bit, actually--and I was jealous because this is one of my favorite areas to fight play.
If you're on Bluesky, I'm trying to spend more time over there, although I refuse to speak of "skeets" (can't y'all at least call them skytes or something?).
In terms of needing to play any other game ever, I'd bought Dragon Age: Inquisition on deep discount, and I am currently deciding on character name(s). I am advised to play as an elf first for romance options.
(I was browsing Steam for free to play and <$5 and... they sure have some games there, huh? I didn't even know you could show that.)
Reblogs of interest
Mozilla is shutting Pocket down, because we cannot have nice things ever. I'm currently trying out Raindrop and Instapaper as replacements.
"Are you 🫵 pissed off about the Lilo and Stitch monstrosity remake? Do you want to know how you can actually make a difference in supporting the people and ecosystems of Hawaii?"
"The climate crisis is ongoing. And, also, a bird is building a nest in the eaves outside my window. Come spring, there will be new birth. In shaky hands, I hold these two truths together."
Another beautiful post: "the thing is that childhood doesn’t just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21."
This post about Magneto and Elon Musk is basically just an argument in the notes as to whether Cybertrucks even contain metal.
Beneficent chain posts: "Reblog the Money Tubbs and you’ll find money!"
"please dear god everyone look at this przewalski’s horse" (it is extremely shaped)

The new Garbage album has dropped; I think my initial favorite song may be "Love to Give."
In moments of madness I am tempted to play Elden Ring for Ranni, and then I see whatever THIS is. (If you had specifically played as Melina, I would have been back to tempted.) Also, Elden Ring is so fucking hard that even ELDEN RING thinks it's too fucking hard.

Warriors Orochi Substitute Officers
When playing a battle as a character that is an ally in the battle, a generic officer will take their place. Substitute officer allocations were all over the place in Warriors Orochi Z, but in Warriors Orochi 3, efforts were made to standardise them. Such a shame Koei Tecmo got lazy and scrapped that system in Warriors Orochi 4.
Anyway, here is a list of substitute officers in Warriors Orochi 3, combined with my substitute officer picks for the hypothetical Warriors Orochi: The Recollective (hereafter shortened to WOX) and a hypothetical Warriors Orochi 4 that I will cover in its retrospective.

https://www.saint-brevin.fr/saint-brevin-en-images/
The seasnake is done in 2012 by the artist HUANG YONG PING on the mouth of the LOIRE river for « the Travel of Nantes » initiatic run on the modern art through the town and the Loire sides , each year revisited !!!!!
A webcam , recently installed, allows to see worlwide the artistic work on the website of Saint-Brevin les Pins (see upper) 365/365days H24 .

Szkielet bestii nad brzegiem Loary
Szkielet wielkiego węża wyłania się z rzeki Loary we Francji. Ukończony w 2012 r. Serpent d’océan to gigantyczny aluminiowy szkielet węża morskiego autorstwa artysty Huang Yong Ping położony nad brzegiem Loary, gdzie wpada do Zatoki Biskajskiej na obrzeżach Nantes we Francji.
