Goddamnit I already made a post about it and I don't like to hate on m*levens too much but istg, it's a show!! The characters aren't real, it's not about what would realistically happen. The goal of the show is to create an engaging plot and a good narrative. "I just can't see Mike leaving El for Will after all they've been through" but would that be an interesting story? Poor gay boy gets rejected by the love of his life? He thinks he can't find love because he's gay, and what, he's proven right?

That's not even mentioning how much of what people say about Byler is just feeding into heteronormativity and homophobia. People just assume Mike is straight, despite him having never affirmed that. That's the definition of heteronormativity.

What pisses me off the most is that bitches will act like mike being queercoded is something new - like we haven't been saying this from like 2018... I've genuinely seen people say "you just want another queer character" as if we're throwing pins at a board and just seeing who we can 'frame as gay'. People been clocking mike like tf?? I honestly assumed mike was going to be confirmed first, seeing as will's queer-coding is so completely obvious that i didn't think it needed to be said first. I Low-key hate the st fandom. It's crazy how the show is about being "different" or a "freak" and 90% of the fandom are literally the people that make fun of those people in rl.

obviously mike was the most feral about it but i love that lucas and dustin were immediately like, no i don't care what's involved, we ARE getting will back. if it requires going against the government we're still doing this. it doesn't matter how dangerous it is. mike is the one who calls lucas and starts talking about wanting to save will, but it doesn't take a ton of prompting for lucas to agree, and then obviously dustin does too.

like yes in season two there's the clear separation of will from other characters and the emphasis is put on mike as far as closeness to will, but lucas was literally telling off a girl who had the power to throw him with her mind because he was so furious she wasn't helping them save will and was angry with mike when he felt like mike wasn't taking it seriously enough too. like. lucas sinclair would go to bat for his friends in any circumstance, he's so protective. they all love will so much it's so sweet.

lucas getting so enthusiastic talking about how excited will's going to be about the heathkit that he swears in front of mr.clarke in season one. lucas going out of his way to try to apologize to will in season three. dustin calling out for will in s1 and reminding him of the comic he won from him (through cheating) and the fact they even did that cute little race. lucas telling max not to bring up the zombie boy thing around will because he thinks it's hard for him to hear about even though he's still trying to impress max.

will sticking around the longest and being the sweetest talking to dustin in s3 when he's trying to contact suzie. dustin commenting how he wishes will were there in season four. dustin running up to hug will (and el) in season four! lucas hugging will (and mike) in season four! all of them hugging and celebrating after will wins them the dnd campaign at the end of s1!!

and in the dustin experiment?? dustin writing letters to will praising him, will offering him emotional guidance and being generally just super sweet and supportive. will being the only one of the party members who's interested in/supportive of both lucas's new desire to play basketball and dustin's science fair project!! the party all getting so excited when will picks up the phone (none more than mike but like, obviously. they all want to talk to him so badly.)

like you expect it from his family, and hopper has his own baggage, but these are literally just twelve year old boys armed with slingshots and walkie talkies and they're like. no. i will fight anyone that has to be fought if it means will's safe, and that's very sweet. these boys would do anything for each other and it's just very wholesome.

(also proof that stranger things does have a bunch of male friendship, even with the gay male character, so people who cry "cant men be friends" are reaaaachiiinngggg)

This is LITERALLY Jonathan looking through the mirror and seeing himself through Mike and Will. They were actually crazy for this.

They said that the scene at the pizza place where Jonathan comforts Will was added last minute. The point of making Jonathan aware of byler wasn’t to get someone to comfort Will.

The real point was to make the viewer look at byler and see jancy. Because Jonathan is hearing Will say “she commissioned it” and hearing himself say “he asked me to take you home”. He’s been in this situation. He knows that Will is hurting because he remembers the hurt he experienced himself.

Jonathan was looking through a mirror. Not glancing or turning behind him. He looked through a MIRROR.
