fic here if you haven't read it!

first thing i want to say is: this fic is heavily inspired by Samsara / 輪迴 by ForgivenMemes. if you're an mdzs fan and can handle the content warnings, go check it out.

some Actual Time Loop (rather than time travel) concepts that didn't get written: zam's last week of the server, from bedrock box to the wormhole. vitalasy on two birds/deliverance day.

however i did a lot of thinking about, like, who or what is causing the time loop? why? how can they break out? and eventually came to an answer: they're the ones causing the time loop, because they just keep trying and trying to make this work, long after it has become obvious that it can't work, because they love each other. so i wrote this instead. i could have given it a happier ending where vitalasy eventually breaks the time loop by Letting Go and Moving On to Season Five but this is thematically speaking ... the story we already got in s4? in canon, at the finale, vitalasy is able to let go of zam and move on to s5. so i wanted to make him a bit worse. also im obsessed with [cycles you cannot break and are trapped in forever].

it had to be vitalasy or zam because subz, after like two loops, would Simply Not Invite Zam. tbh. and out of vitalasy and zam, one of them already has Miscellaneous Glitch Powers, so.

relatedly: you don't get to see much of this in the fic but spoke (a) does not know what, exactly, vitalasy is doing to the server (b) does know that he's doing something. spoke would NOT be happy about the time travel. he worked so hard on the apocalypse!!!! it's the END of season four not the "okay now time to go back a few months". come on vitalasy where's the narrative catharsis

another fun fact from planning: if it had been a time loop proper and not time travel as controlled by vitalasy, they would've suspected spoke as behind it, but it absolutely would not have been spoke. spoke does not care enough about eclipse poly drama to put you in a time loop about it sorry guys

vitalasy paces a lot in this fic. that's a pretty common stressed/trapped animal thing. you see foxes do it a lot, in fur farms or pseudo-sanctuaries or generally abusive living conditions.

he also spins! that's just a vitalasy trait. watch any vod with vitalasy in it from a non-vitalasy pov and note how much he spins. it's a good trait. i wish i had included more of him spinning but i couldn't find a ton of good spots for it so he only spins once.

you know the thing life series fans say. "[character] never left [location]." none of eclipse federation ever left eclipse federation. now you may say, zam did very much leave eclipse federation, it was kind of a big deal that zam left eclipse federation? which is true! however. in the life series sense, none of them left eclipse federation, in that none of them are at all over it.

i think a lot about post-betrayal s4 eclipse federation. they're still hanging onto it. they hang onto it after and despite zam's betrayal, long after it's clear that it can't exist again like it did before. they keep trying and trying and trying even as it only becomes more and more apparent that the trying doesn't help. because they love each other. and that's what this fic is about.

sparrow called this out in the comments but. the multiple meanings of 'zam made their bed'. zam made their bed (physically, he placed it and designed it.) zam made their bed (physically, he made the covers nicer.) zam made their bed (he made this relationship what it was, you can't get rid of him without getting rid of that.) zam made their bed (now lie in it.)

i like the note of vitalasy putting his hearts in a chest for them at the end. he doesn't even know if subz and zam will keep existing in this timeline! and he didn't label it 'for subz'. zam is planning on betraying him that day and he still left the hearts for him, too. man!

also it's in glowing dyed ink to be a little reminiscent of All The Sign Rooms. my beta kelardry added that detail :3

here's a secret: i can, actually, imagine possibilities that went differently and ended up happier for eclipse. (most of them are "vitalasy replays subz's suicide enough that he successfully finds a way to get subz to agree to stay alive".) however, at that point, the fic would become canon divergence rather than time loop, so instead i made subz's suicide more of a fixed point. sorry vitalasy!

These are 3 indie games I’m devastated I don’t see more stuff about them…

Cosmic star heroine is a relatively short chrono trigger spiritual successor that I had an absolute blast with. Combat was fun, there are almost a dozen playable characters by the game’s end and they use new mechanics that weren’t present in chrono trigger like style + hyper attacks, also instead of mp you have limited use of skills and need to defend to regain points, it makes more sense in practice. The game is so charming and there’s hilarious moments that poke fun at scifi tropes and memes and programming jokes. And the world is super cool, I don’t remember too much of the overarching plot but I liked the characters a lot. As far as chrono trigger-esque games go, it’s not as good as sea of stars, but it’s definitely better than I am setsuna or lost sphear. I wish more ppl played it!

Slime-san is a puzzle platformer that starts out simple but gets pretty fucking bonkers. You’re a cute little slime who can dash and jump and cling to walls, and as you complete stages new obstacles are added and it really ramps up the difficulty. Theres a lot of content and free dlc and you can change the color scheme and whatnot, it’s a really cute faux-retro aesthetic. Theres even boss fights which can be so brutal! It’s definitely challenging and I never completed the new game + thing but I should go back to it sometime because it’s a lot of fun. But it’s also hard.

And okay, this one was pretty highly rated when it came out but I never see ppl talking about it even though I know it’s relatively popular at least at the time of release, but I cannot recommend axiom verge enough. It’s the best metroidvania I’ve played that wasn’t a Metroid or Castlevania game (sorry hollow knight). Youre a physicist with amnesia on an alien world trying to get home and you kind of get thrown into this plot by these beings called the Rusalki… I won’t say much more than that but the lore is fucking delicious and is explored more in its not-quite-as-good-but-still-recommended sequel. Everything about the game is awesome, and it was all primarily done by one guy, Thomas Happ, and he uses the profits to help make more games and care for his son’s medical bills. But for the game itself, it’s sooo atmospheric, it leans hard on the Metroid influences, the bosses are sick, the challenge feels just right. There’s a ton of weapons you can find so you have a really robust selection to fit whatever play style you prefer, and to also help solve puzzles. Theres also abilities that help you move to new areas, but instead of your standard double jump type deal it’s things like sending out a drone to get into small spaces or being able to glitch through walls. It’s fucking great. I still think about the plot regularly and what’s next for this universe ooo…. The plot twist is so good ALSO my url is the name of one of the characters, he states that athetos is from a Greek word meaning “one who is rejected, or whose thoughts shouldn’t be entertained”. I can’t verify any of that though as I know zero Greek.

Also these aren’t underrated I’d say but I also really recommend tunic (Zelda inspired action adventure), sea of stars (as mentioned earlier), the messenger (ninja gaiden-esque action platformer that becomes a metroidvania), into the breach (roguelite(like? Only a single character Carries over between runs)), baba is you (the smartest a puzzle game ever), and shovel knight (he’s a knight with a shovel yay)

guess who made a bad decision and stayed up finishing the game last night

alright so first things first ive made some discoveries (although im sure im not the first one to make these discoveries, it's just fun finding shit out on your own)

okay so, if you have a golden egg and you give it to your partner during the item management screen - when you're in game, the egg becomes an infinite golden egg. when you eat it, it "disappears" and then your character goes back to holding whatever item they had last, but if you go back to the hotkey with the egg (or go back to your inventory) it's still there. which is wild. but if you give the egg to your partner, it stops it and it goes back to being just one egg.

idk the parameters of this. it worked on online co-op, idk how it works with an ai partner. im guessing this has to be a glitch because it goes back to being just one egg whenever you give it away, but who knows maybe capcom is just wildin. also im sure there's more info about this out there and that people already know i just feel like that one guy who thought he discovered america

also - the person who joined my game and then immediately left, and then i took their golden egg from my ai sheva (because sheva keeps their inventory) and then i went to my inventory and it was 90-somethings eggs; my theory is that MAYBE that was an "infinite egg" in their inventory and when i took it from ai sheva, the game just clocked it to the max or whatever and that's why it was in the nineties. idk though, i remember it being like 93 or something which seems too specific of a number for what im thinking happened. but idk. i want more golden eggs. ive sold so damn many of them to upgrade my weapons I NEED MORE.

SO i recently (like maybe a week ago) was replaying this game on the xbox 360. idk if versions have to do anything with this, but it was the standard version, not the golden whatever. the mkono fight lasted i swear maybe ten minutes. it was so damn easy in comparison to the forty minutes to an hour it took on my first playthrough (which was couch co op on 360). the same thing with the first reaper encounter. the same thing with all the reapers actually. also the number of reapers was different. the room with the shooting and stuff (yeah i know super specific) usually has three reapers, and then you have to turn on the power and then turn on the platform and kill the guys and get your partner across the platform and then those guys have rocket launchers and its such a slay. when i was playing here there were only two, so im thinking maybe re5 has a little difficulty measure where its like "oh youre struggling? maybe i can fix that" but idk. also.

having the first reaper encounter occur RIGHT BEFORE THE MKONO BOSS FIGHT is actual bullshit. capcom. what the fuck. this isnt a problem on a new game plus whatever but it is a fucking problem when im replaying the game on pc and i dont have any previous saves. god that is so lame. to use ALL my shit on the reaper. and then to have nothing for the boss fight. look, twenty minutes for a boss fight is a fucking stretch - so when it takes forty minutes to an hour for any of this bullshit - it HURTS me. dont do this to be capcom. not in my resi game. pleaasseeeee.

we used a rocket launcher on mkono because that was bullshit.

also - love the "explaining how the rocket launcher works on boss fights to someone who is relatively new to resident evil." sibling already had a rocket launcher i let them pick up from the marshlands so it was their job. and i was like "the MOMENT you see them, shoot." and they were like "nah but lets widdle them down a bit first" and i was like "NO LISTEN. THE MOMENT THE BOSS FIGHT STARTS. AIM AND SHOOT." and so they listened (luckily) and boom the immediate "boss dying" cutscene right after the "boss fight beginning" cutscene was very funny.

okay so for the final chapter, i played the entire thing online with a stranger who i think also relatively maybe didnt know what they were doing which is so fun actually because theres this like "fuck it we ball" energy that i love. and also - THE LEVELS OF COMMUNICATION HAPPENING WITHOUT EVEN ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO SPEAK TO EACH OTHER IS INSANE scientists should study this. figuring out how to work the first wesker encounter of chapter six? PERSEVERING THROUGH THE EXCELLA FIGHT EVEN THO WE DIED LIKE FOUR TIMES?! THE FINAL BOSS FIGHT WITH WESKER BEING THE BULLSHIT THAT IT IS (not as bad as 360, NEVER AS BAD as 360). that person is an absolute king/queen/nonbinary ruler of some sort. and i LOVE the comradery that was so fun.

my chief complaints about the final wesker fight and the jill fight: when you do the same thing and it goes on for a really long time (and it's just the same repetitive strategy) it makes me think "oh shit did the game glitch" and i dont think it should do that, that's just me. there's a charm to it and all, the game is fucking old and we love that, but damn after the fifth attempt to get the thingy off jill's chest, it really should've just worked. capcom don't make me think my strategy is wrong by edging me with success, only to be like "jk lol" because then that makes me not do that strategy anymore OR it makes me think the game glitched (which, unfortunately, is likely and therefore a believable explanation). like, shit, i've played the damn game before and ive already done the boss fight with jill and i knew the strat was right and i was STILL second guessing myself because damn that shit took a long time.

(also i got the heart of africa achievement thingy - it's no biggy just you know, success and all that. love beating the shit out of wesker and then him being like "u suck. ur actually so weak, you know that?" and it's like - homie you said seven minutes and it's been five and you're tapping out come on. i love this though. definitely not a complaint)

also my mods officially just stopped working at some point. i deleted and redownloaded the leon one to see if i could fix it, reverified game files and all that, and i still got stuck with buff shaggy most of the time and jensen ackles some of the time. sheva was in her cute bsaa outfit tho so it was fine. at the end though, neither worked, but the color filter mod thingy that removes the green worked - so that's all i can wish for honestly. that green filter is nasty af and idk who at capcom allowed that

for background: ttt and a decent chunk of other characters only fit into my (human oc) stories via a character named jeanie who can see ghosts. i know. marry sue but i am free<3

ok!! so, ttt is a ghost and hes the second oldest ghost in the story (time on earth wise). my story is set in the way future of (maybe) this world, and ttt is introduced around the time that theres a giant nuclear war and subsequent fallout. while he was alive he was a doomsday prepper which was (for the time) rightfully so. he spends about 5 years living down in a bunker eating a shit ton of shelf stable doomsday prepper stuff. as you can imagine living alone in a concrete hole for years didnt treat him very well mentally, but thats besides the point for now. it will all be erased once he becomes a ghost (and replaced with more trauma). at any rate, he ends up running out of food/water earlier than planned and has to wander out into the wasteland to try to find supplies. he doesnt last too long out there (havent decided on a time but probably a little less than a year). he gets stabbed in the remains of a walmart over a can of beans. and ends up dying.

ttt becomes a ghost! in this universe when people become ghosts its usually for a reason (think unfinished business, need to atone, or have some grander purpose type stuff) but for whatever reason t just got fucked over and wasnt actually supposed to become a ghost. his ghost-ness coincides with a time period where a lot of fucked up things are happening with the deities that are in charge of the solar system and at the time the deities that controlled things like death + fate were MIA. so all in all ttt becoming a ghost was genuinely just a glitch in the system type thing.

because of this ttt is. interesting as a ghost. unlike all other ghosts he doesnt really have an appearance. instead hes just vaguely brown/gray humanoid (ignore the ttt sign on him for now, thats not part of his appearance and i'll get to that later). additionally, t cant remember a single thing about his time as a human nor what his name is, hence the name ttt. i know what his human name is but thats secret information not in the story. most importantly to t's story is that he cant be seen by 99.9% of other ghosts.

the reason behind this fact has to do with the weird mechanics of being a ghost. it kind of works like channels or levels on a tv. when you become a ghost youre randomly given a handfull of 'channels' you can access and this ties into certain powers that ghosts can have. for example: being able to touch a ouija board or mess with radio-frequencies would require you to have access to those two channels- not all ghosts can do so. almost everything runs on channels, even just simple things like 'have an appearance' and 'being seen by others' and 'see others'. theres also an insane number of duplicate channels, so for example one ghost could have quite a large number of 'being seen by others' channels which allows them to be seen by a large number of ghosts that share those channels. conversely, (in ttts case) he only has a few 'being seen by others' channels and quite a few 'see others' so basically he can see other ghosts, but they cant see or interact with him. sorry that was longwinded but i love my ghost mechanics. theres more to the mechanics via a ranking tier system but for the sake of brevity i WILL NOT BE GETTIN INTO THAT.

at any rate. because of weird ghost mechanics and because t was fucked up and wasnt supposed to be a ghost, he cant be seen by almost anybody, but he can still see them. as you can imagine this is horrible. ttt spends centuries wandering through the post-nuked world as a ghost trying to find other ghosts to interact with. as the centuries go on he just slowly loses hope more and more and bitterly resigns himself to the fact that he'll never be able to interact with people in the way that he wants. (small sidenote: despite ttt not having baseline/low level channels like being seen, he does have some fairly high level channels that let him interact with the physical world (think like typical poltergeist stuff like throwing small objects ect). this ofc is not a very good substitute for being able to interact with people).

so anyway, ttt spends centuries being functionally alone again. kinda meant to mirror his time in the bunker. resigning to not being able to mess with anything, ttt just tends to pass the time people watching and trying to entertain himself other ways. one day hes people watching and happens upon a literal murder (theres more to this bc its someone elses story but i wont get too detailed bc its edgy emo). this ofc isnt the first time t's seen something like this and (being a touch bitter abt his unable-to-interact-with-anybody situation), t basically just watches and once the murdered guy's ghost drags himself outta the river t just starts roasting the new ghost for being stupid and getting murdered, thinking he cant be seen or heard.

unfortunately this is the first ghost that can actually see and hear ttt.

the new ghost (whos name is perry) is basically just like. (status: doesnt know hes dead or whats happening) HUH?? WH?? WHO ARE YOU?? ttt proceeds to freak the fuck out bc HOLY SHIT THE FIRST PERSON WHO CAN SEE AND HEAR ME?!? WHAT?!? hes completely elated and brain short circuiting at the same time, so hes falling over his words and trying to explain things and say sorry for being a dick to him (thats the least thing perrys worried about). amongst the confusion perry somehow gets it into his head that ttt is his guardian angel because hes some like shapeless entity that appeared after perry (apparently??) died (perry voice: wh huh what do you mean i got shot???).

they speedrun getting to know each other bc ttts just railroading the conversation bc hes so excited and perrys still on like “my name… its perry right..?” brain . perry sticks with t for a while (still assuming hes his guardian or smth) but it literally only takes like half a night for perry to realize like . ok maybe im wrong . (ttt hotwires a car and drives the two of them around before crashing it [another pastime] and thats when perry kinda decides like . no i dont think this guy is an angel.) (during the carride perry also keeps phasing thru the seat + out of the car bc he cant do ghost stuff yet) (also ttts able to hotwire + drive the car bc touching irl stuff to an extent is one of his aforementioned powers).

oh also, the name ttt came from perry and t's first interaction. perry asked what t's name was and t (who didnt know his name) just made something up on the spot and ttt it was.

after that the two of them just end up constantly being together (bc perry really hasnt met anyone else yet so he doesnt exactly like, know theres others out there . and t is ofc not leaving perrys side). it is very evident that ttt is basically attached at perrys hip and VERY afraid to lose him. i mean, perrys the first person who hes been able to talk to for literal centuries and now that ttt has that lifeline hes clutching to it for dear life.

the more they get to know each other t opens up and lets perry know that like . yea youre the first person thats been able to see me and ive KIIIINDA been alone and unable to interact with anyone for a few thousand years . no big deal or anything (<-guy whos brain was becoming mush from lack of interaction). perry starts to understand just everything t must have been through + why he acts so.. like that. he assures t that theres no way he would leave t behind.

i dont have very much for what the two of them did between their meeting and the current timeline in the story, but basically the two of them fuck around for 400 years or so. sometime during that time perry finds a super old (prewar) magazine ad for fiji and the two of them decide they wanna go. so now their thing is perry constantly is trying to teleport (one of his powers) them to fiji but he cant bc fiji doesnt exist anymore and he keeps (unknowingly) teleporting them to the remnants of old fiji water bottles. theyre on like a mission to find fiji.

eventually, one of such teleporting incidents lead them to meeting the character jeanie by chance, who, by the power of I Say So (and a whole nother plot i wont get into), can see ghosts. perry and t end up staying with jeanie as well as a couple of other ghosts that hang with jeanie (their names ade hummingbird and ekr). the five of them become very found family. the rest of their story becomes the group getting wrapped up in/uncovering weird deity politics and subsequently trying to change jeanie and his friend pattersons fate and keep them from dying.

oh yeah, and the ttt thing on ttt's head is a floating apparition of a stickynote that perry controls so the other two ghosts can tell where ttt is.

Wait so I'm new around these here parts wtf is the frontier mod and please tell me all there is to hate about it im Curious 👀

the frontier mod is a dlc-sized fanmade mod for new vegas that was in development for (i believe) seven years. i didn’t hear anything about it until its release, maybe a week ago, and i didn’t care much for it anyway. but people started playing it and noticing just how bad it was. sloppy writing, subpar voice acting (although mods are rarely top-tier where that’s concerned) and tons of glitches, just to name just a few issues. then, people started finding other fucked up stuff, like the lizard people/deathclaw sex, the companion that is implied to have fucked her dog, and the companion who, in addition to dropping a thinly veiled foot fetish line, is able to be enslaved by the courier.

in addition to all the shit actually in the mod, the dev team is pretty sketchy as well. someone i know (who was trying to get their art removed from the mod) had a very roundabout conversation with a pr person who was being very caged about revealing America’s (the enslavable companion) age, since it was dubious whether or not she was actually of age. i believe she is, but again, they weren’t too clear.

i have yet to see anyone actually finish the mod. they either quit halfway through because it’s boring/bad, or they encounter a game breaking glitch that softlocks them or something. even mittensquad, notorious for completing challenges even when he fails, threw in the towel.

finally, the icing on the cake, the mod is now gone everywhere. one of the artists, zutheskunk, was recently outed as a pedophile and got the mod completely removed from every platform that i know of. i was actually thinking of playing it, just to see how bad it was, but it looks like i missed my chance.

my Thoughts about mcc14, because this is my blog and the official year of no cringe (in that i will no longer regard my interests as cringe and enjoy them wholeheartedly and post about them if i want)

overall !! it was a really fun event, i was watching blue bats punz pov and they popped off so it was a really good watch for me, the updates to the games were sick as hell and i cannot wait to see these get more refined as we go along plus see what they have in store for bingo and sands of time

putting everything else below the cut for the sake of all the mutuals i have on here that have never interacted with a mcyt in their life! 

so. will preface this by saying i’ve watched every mcc live starting with mcc9 and am . just very very into this tournament, i’ll probably do a little analysis post next mcc because i just find it all very fun !! and tumblr is like a void i can scream into and sometimes it screams back so it’s the perfect place to let myself ramble. that being said, here’s my thoughts on this mcc from the blue bats punz pov, with vague knowledge of what happened in a few other povs

build mart: so sue me, i’m a build mart fan. the new map build is INCREDIBLE and i love the choice of elytras rather than the scuffed boats!! the new addition of the golden build is really fun too! not something that could necessarily be changed but build mart is definitely a killer for teams that don’t have good comms and coordination, and having it as a first game can really shake some teams and cause a drop in morale that could affect the rest of their performance in the event. overall, though? im loyal to build mart and i think it only got better with the updates

tgttosawaf: i love how pedantically long that acronym is <3 i think some of the changes really threw players into the deep end, that one round where they had to break the wool in the targets to get through especially, and terra swoop force Definitely threw some players that are otherwise cracked for a loop, especially if they were unfamiliar with the map, but this one was also super fun to watch!! definitely a good game for the first half of the event

sky battle: at long last, sky battle returns <3 as a shameless inniter sky battle is one of my favourite games simply because i Know tommy will always pop off, but it’s also such a fun twist on classic minigames like sky wars and a faster version of skyblockle done super well! i like the new map layout a ton as well, the little towers in the middle ring plus the structure of the innermost ring made for some really interesting plays all around. this game’s another one that can go south really fast if your team comms aren’t great, but definitely more forgiving than build battle, and a hell of a lot more adrenaline-inducing!! in terms of the updates i think this one was probably one of the best, tied with build mart.

survival games: survival games was CRAZY i do think this is one where you need to get good rng with your loot pickups as well as have good team coordination but it’s definitely a really fun pvp game!! only thing i will say is it can be a bit bland next to the rest of the crazy games in mcc but it’s definitely a classic and depending on how its played (cough red rabbits cough) can definitely turn things wayyyy around for a team!! very high stakes in a fun way

hole in the wall: god :sob: the glitch. ohhhh hbomb you and your glitchy ways. this glitch was definitely a new one compared to the usual “spam-space-bar-and-pray” glitch that our dearest tommyinnit has taken advantage of before, but i honestly can’t really blame him too much for using it? it did give aqua an advantage but it’s only slightly different from falsesymmetry using the spam-space glitch to win a few rounds of hitw in a more recent mcc (would have to double check which one, but i do remember hbomb taking note of this when he was reviewing mcc vods the day after). hole in the wall has been a glitchy bastard for as long as it’s been in mcc and it was truly hilarious to see hbomb clip through walls, so - all in all i think if the glitch could be fixed that’d be great but it was still a fun watch! also, pete zahutt is CRACKED.

ace race: whoo boy. ace race. honest opinion? i think the map is REALLY cool and has a lot of potential, but there was a lot of confusion and bugs that need to be fixed for next time - the fact that the players could reset back to a previous checkpoint, the general confusion over where to go which cld mean they need to add more directional arrows. overall i’m really really excited to see how people will perform on this map when they’re more familiar with it and some of the kinks have been worked out on the developer end. i do think scott had a Huge advantage here and it was really prominent due to the fact that this was a new map for everyone aside from him, albeit him seeing a much earlier version that wasn’t the same as the version that existed in the event, and it would definitely be wise of noxcrew and the developing team in the future to be more aware of how much involvement scott has in the gameplay side of testing. the general confusion and checkpoint resetting also did Not help anyone and i do think a few teams really lost out this event because of the issues with ace race, but this map has a ton of potential and im really excited to see what they do with it in the future.

battle box: oooo battle box !! this one didn’t really leave too big of an impression on me but the new map was definitely interesting!! the fact that the way to get to the middle was a bit unclear was ,, definitely interesting to watch :sob: but you can’t go wrong with battle box to be honest. solid team pvp game!

parkour tag: PARKOUR TAG!!! having this as the final game was so fun :] the map they had this time was complicated which definitely comes with its pros and cons: pros being that it creates potential for a lot of really interesting routes and unique usage of the area and environment, and cons being that it can feel really cluttered and overwhelming especially when its your first time playing. overall i liked the fact that it was busier but i think striking a better balance between full and barren could really elevate parkour tag from a good game to a great game

dodgebolt: blue bats </3 they had a fantastic run in the games and had an awful dodgebolt and sometimes that’s how it shakes down !! i always always love the unpredictability to the final winner that dodgebolt gives - the first place team pointswise isnt guaranteed a win, reverse sweeps have happened multiple times in the past, and dodgebolt is always nail-bitingly exciting to watch!

misc thoughts: i do think aqua had an advantage but from the sounds of things scott and noxcrew will be taking genuine criticism into account for next time and have learned from this event, i DONT think that removing parkour warrior was unfair because it wasn’t an event that noxcrew could ever successfully balance by making it hard enough to not have the same guy dominating every event and creating a gap, especially when played later, that no other players had HOPE of reducing and i think parkour tag was a really really fun alternative to it especially since runner and hunter play to diff strengths of the team members and it has a bit more strategy to it plus team comms than parkour warrior did, and i think build mart is a good game and i WILL die on this hill

Thinking about it, it kinda sucks just how little new horizons has.

Like... I love the game to pieces and maybe this is just bc im in a shitty mood (which i am) but like... god this is gonna be long and ranty and I'm sorry in advance that mobile tumblr doesnt have the read more feature

For starters, holidays are all scheduled on the company's terms, meaning in 7+ years or so there will be no more in-game holidays because by then they'll probably be thinking about/getting ready to release the next installment of the series on whatever console is out at the time and they won't want to update new horizons anymore. And adding onto this, you need the internet to download the updates. What happens to the players who don't have internet?? Can they just never experience the holidays like bunny day and toy day and turkey day? That takes a HUGE part of the fun of the series out right off the bat. Sometimes making everything rely on the internet is a bad idea. Idk if anyone can like tell me if having no internet means you can't take part in the holidays, but like... god if that's true thats really sad.

They recently took out the hybrid flower and big fish islands, which makes no sense whatsoever why they would do that to a game that has so little, but ok?? It's not like that feature was hindering the gameplay any

There's a lot of furniture but Not a Lot of Furniture, you get me? They took out EVERY set except the classic set (renamed "antique") that you can buy for an insanely high price, and the log and wooden block sets that you can craft, but other that that it's all unrelated items that aren't part of any set, aside from the cute set and diner and throwback sets which as far as I can remember are the only other sets you can buy in the game. No alpine, no ranch, no minimalist, no princess or gracie, no modern or sleek, none of that. And 90% of all the buy-only furniture in the game is just the color variants. You can't even customize them! And it's hard as fuck to find the color variants you want, much less for completing a furniture set

And speaking of which, your starting villagers don't get their default house interiors. Your first three + your two starters from the tutorial days have the same generic layouts. You NEVER see what their houses are supposed to look like, and even if you give them the wallpaper and flooring they're supposed to have (if you figure that out online somewhere), their house doesn't change (I tested this with Sherb and was kinda disappointed).

And stuff is so EXPENSIVE. I know it adds a challenge but my final loan was NEVER 1 mil+ bells in New Leaf. And you can't even expand the extra first floor rooms you get. I'm literally getting less for WAY more. The biggest rooms you get are the basement and upstairs rooms. The first floor rooms aside from the main room really don't have a lot of space and with the different furniture they DO offer, I don't have a lot of room to put things in. But it's not like I can even afford it anyway -- just a freaking air conditioner was 63,000 bells. In New Leaf it was 2500. That's a MASSIVE jump. And the kitchen items are so freaking expensive, as well.

And speaking of houses, for someone who was literally in the real estate industry in the last game, tom nook adds very few house exterior options. And the even more shitty thing is that a lot of the colors straight up don't match. They couldn't even add a plain white roof.

God and the fucking DIY recipes. I know I've said this before on my other tumblr but the RNG for this game is the worst I've ever fucking seen. There is no reason why, two months into the game, I can be given a recipe for a simple DIY bench, which EVERYONE LEARNS IN THE TUTORIAL. Who the fuck am I giving it to?! No one, because literally every player knows it already, and you can't gift diy recipes to villagers! And I keep getting repeats of recipes. My villagers give me fruit DIYs all the time, it's so rare for me to get any new ones. And two days in a row I've gotten the recipe for the deer head mount thing from the same villager. New recipes should 100% take the priority before repeats. This game is slow paced, sure, but that's just frustrating. It doesn't make me excited to learn more recipes, it makes me feel like I'm never gonna learn any new ones because I'll get the same fruit DIYs for a week straight.

And speaking of which, you can't put trees, bushes, or flowers in your storage, which to me makes literally no sense. I can fit a giant ass fountain in my storage but I can't put a flower plant? Really? And speaking of storage, for a game that added 300 whole slots for mail instead of the usual 10, I will never understand why they decided to halve the amount of items a player can order a day from the nook shopping, AND make it so that it takes a whole day to get there instead of making deliveries at 9 am and 5 pm like in New Leaf.

And the fact that they made it so hard to get non native fruit and flowers and shit??? Like they at LEAST added Lief so flowers aren't as much of an issue anymore, but you actually have to travel to other people's islands just to get all the fruits?? I know you have to do the same thing in New Leaf but the reason why this is an issue for me is because you have to pay for online access, meaning most of those nook miles for planting all the fruits are locked behind a paywall unless your villagers can gift them to you. And your mom, when you first start the game, has a chance of giving you the one fruit that's on the non-native fruit mystery island, meaning you'll only get ONE new fruit and not two separate ones (for example, my sis got pears from mom but her non native fruit islands have cherries i believe. I got pears from mom and my fruit islands also have pears. Doesnt help that that's the one fruit i hate lmao). They also took OUT a bunch of fruits, like mangoes, durians, lemons, bananas, lychees, persimmons...

And the fact that your nook miles rewards are ISLAND LOCKED. That is the WORST SHIT. Not everyone has the ability to play with others, bc no internet or no money for the subscription every month. Not everyone WANTS to play with others bc maybe they get social anxiety (like me, which is why i havent asked for things that are impossible for me to get even though i want them for my island or house), or maybe they simply just don't want to. But the fact that each island has their own color variants of the same goddamn rewards that CANNOT BE CHANGED makes me so upset. I do not want nor should I have to rely on others to get the items I want because my game doesn't have my preferred color variations. And it's not like I'm far enough in the game to have anything worth trading for said items, nor do I have the bells.

And Isabelle does next to fucking nothing and I'm really irked about how they made her character in this game. Yeah she's cute, but that's ALL she is. She became more ditzy than anything else. She doesn't let you know about visitors in the town or the plaza or if a bridge or incline was built bc of a completed donation goal. Like really useful info to know would be if Flick or CJ is in town or who is selling stuff in the plaza. Flavor text is nice but if that's all you say 24/7 it loses its charm. In New Leaf she was helpful and hardworking and super focused and on top of things. Idk why they changed that aspect of her. I know her role in New Horizons isn't as big as it was in New Leaf, but still.

And then there's glitches that STILL haven't been patched (as far as I know anyway), like the game-breaking villager corruption glitch (which you'd think nintendo would have made a priority but they're too busy removing other features it seems) or the house exterior glitch.

And it's bad enough that your game saves to your fucking system a la Fantasy Life. But even WORSE, no one can have separate islands on one console. It's not enough to own two copies of New Horizons. Each player has to own one copy of the game and a whole new Switch just so they can play on their own islands. Parents can't usually afford that (aka $360 for each kid give or take) so for a game marketed towards kids, I don't know why they thought that was a smart move (well, I DO know, and that's because money, but still). And to top it all off, cloud saves are not supported normally. If you lose your game or your switch and aren't subscribed to nintendo online, well, it looks like all your progress is gone! And there's nothing you can do about it. And they directly claimed that they did this just so people can't manipulate the game because it's supposed to be played in real time. But people can still fucking time travel by setting the system's clock! They achieved nothing except to make the players frustrated!!! If you make a game you need to accept that the player is going to play how THEY want to. You shouldn't try to make everyone conform to the way YOU want them to play. That just makes you a controlling asshole and the game loses a lot of its fun.

This game was 60 bucks and they took so long to make it and we ended up with less than we got in New Leaf. The main thing they gave us was a shit ton more clothing items (which I really like). Like I said, I love this game to pieces and it's actually one of my favorite games right now. There's so much I love about it -- I certainly don't hate it or anything. But this game has SO MANY flaws, a lot of which are needless. And I think the kid in me just misses the days where you can pay for a game and get the whole game right away. No updates in tiny batches, no content locked behind paywalls, no day one patches, no reliance on internet connection and multiplayer... mainstream companies have all gone really downhill with that shit and it just disappoints me to no end. But because Nintendo is kid-oriented, I think that's where it hurts the most. It was supposed to be accessible, family friendly fun like back during the days of the Wii and the DS. But companies get so wrapped up in competing with each other and trying to make the most money that they forget about all that. I dunno. It just sucks.

If you read all this, god damn I'm surprised XD I got super ranty and I apologize. But I'm in a sad mood and I after learning about features they've taken out I just had to get all this off my chest. It's been weighing on me since the game released, especially since for months prior this game was all I could think about and I was really looking forward to it. It just let me down in a lot of ways, I guess.

5-3-21 PlayStation woes, and triggers.

This day started heavy minded. I had got in a slight riff, the day prior with my beloved Dani. A riff that required time for me to sat back and analyze. “Don’t sabotage this Larry” the voice in my head says. “Address it with her, calmly and concisely, she’s worth it” says the same voice (which sounds like ME by the way). She called, we talked ALL day and concluded some things that I will keep to myself. Nonetheless, we ain’t going anywhere from each other...choosing Love was the ultimate conclusion.

So anyway, my PlayStation had been on the fritz for about a week now. Let me explain...YES I’m 45, YES I still game!! My infamous question to youngins when they jone on me about being an old gamer is “Well...youngster...exactly when do you plan to STOP gaming?” That question is never answered. Gaming is important to me...it’s a release...it’s solace...it’s a part of my routine...it keeps me away from the evil my mind can brew up when it’s idle (it’s rarely ever idle). Right now I’m only rocking one game for real for real...Grand Theft Auto 5. I was an avid Call of Duty player, DC Universe player...and I was introduced to GTA 5. Now I played GTA San Andreas to death...so im familiar with the brand, but I got discouraged when I first tried 5 online...I got murked immejidly. Five months later (7 years ago) I gave 5 a shot again, figured out the system, and I’ve been playing since. I’m level 1010 or higher right now, and I’m legit...meaning I didn’t cheat to get to where I’m at...well as of late, my son showed me a couple “legal” glitches and I got a couple modded cars that I couldn’t pass up. Look I don’t watch TV, I watch movies at night, that usually end up watching me AND I got all my extras on the PlayStation...Netflix, Disney, HBO Max, YouTube. That gaming system is a part of my relaxation and escapism ( to be 100). For it to be down right now...sucks. Sure I’m a man that doesn’t encompass boredom often, I have TONS of hobbies and interest. But this one hurt. So at this point I’ve trouble shot the shit out of the PlayStation...to no avail.

4:00 p.m.-Frustration #1 - I’m reduced to calling GameStop just to see if they can aide me. “Hello this is (such and such) from GameStop, how can we help you” says such n such. “Yeah, my PlayStation stopped working, I’m getting this (blank blank) error message, now I’ve watched some YouTube videos on how to fix the problem, and I’ve followed them to a T, purchased a 32gb flash drive, went to PlayStation.com, formatted the drive, renamed it, download the reinstall package, pasted it to the flash drive, put the drive into my PlayStation...boop...same error message” I so eloquently said. “Is it starting in Safe mode” says he. Now I should’ve known there, that it made no sense to have them look at my PlayStation. Nonetheless they told me to bring it in, I rushed my errands to hurry up and get home, grabbed my PS4, and scurried on down to GameStop which is about 5 mins away whilst driving recklessly and fast. I sat outside to smoke a jack...just to calm down before I went in. I really hoped (see that’s why hoping in something may be bullshit) that they had an answer. I noticed a white lady and her mentally special son walking in GameStop. So I decided to cut that break short and get in there...HOPING there wasn’t a crowd. It was a crowd. The fat GameStop guy was there too...you know the one that looks at me as if I don’t know what I’m doing, the one that thinks I’m not a nerd like him. It’s my turn in line, I let the person behind me go ahead of me, because it wasn’t the fat guy on the phone whom I talked to. I waited for the other guy. After several attempts to hook my ps4 up to their tv, “Hmmm...looks like it’s not working” says he, “Ummm...it works, for sure” says me. The ps4 comes on, the error message comes up, I said “See”...the fat guy chimes in “Well you have to get a flash drive...”, I cut him off “ Yes I know” I ran down the process again. “Well you’re better off going to (said store) they are better at fixing broken ps4’s. “Hmmm...ok...will do, but this ps4 isn’t broken, it’s not a hardware problem, it’s a software issue (I love my play on words/verbiage), does that place deal with software issues?” “Oh, umm, yeah, they do.” “Ok gentlemen, thank you for your help”...yeah the help they didn’t have. I could’ve ran my errands I’m peace...and went on home. Although at the end of this nuance, I handled it well...it still didn’t negate that I was supremely frustrated.

He’s sex-repulsed and aromantic. (Though I think he WOULD use sex as a weapon if he knew itd give him some kind of significant gain of power over someone, but personal relationships are absolutely off the table and disgust him. He often mocks them).

He’s touch starved to the point where he physically cannot stand it unless he is the one controlling it. (Which is part of why he’s such a ravenous little shit on less composed days)

Touch is a major component of his manipulation. He’ll recondition his puppets so that certain gestures (petting hair, massages, hugs, anything that would otherwise be considered kind/affectionate) are only associated with him and his control, so that even when his puppets escape, they still cannot receive the affection they crave and that their friends/families want to give them without thinking of him. (I headcanon this for both bunker!au AND canon Anti bc he knows how nasty the community can be, he’s especially broken bunker!Isa with this. Also I??? L O V E THE WAY YOU WRITE THIS ONE???)

Everything about him is Bad Touch Bad Touch Stranger Danger™️. (He is one hell of an expert into fooling you that this isnt true but nothing about him is more true than this.)

His main targets are the egos and he covets having all of them under his control. He’ll do anything he can to make them obey.  (He can be kinda petty about this just because he loves to spite them when they arent yet under his control, but once they are he is BRUTAL with them).

The community is still important to him because he’s aware they are the source of his power, yet he’s reached a point where he can remain stable (as seen in Quit the Game to Win) due to the steady amount of attention he receives at all times, so they don’t matter as much as they used to anymore. (Im personally not convinced he Doesnt Glitch Anymore but I mean,,,, there WAS that scene in Chase so maybe he just uses glitching as a fear/intimidation tactic now).

He’ll still take the community as puppets; however, he is much less forgiving of their disobedience than he used to be due to sheer numbers. He won’t hesitate to weed out the ones who are disobedient, and will often use them as examples for the rest as to what happens when he no longer sees a use for them. (just…YES YES YES YES YES, you are COMPLETELY expendable to him and only his most obedient puppets are MAYBE “immune” to being immediately thrown away and replaced)

He will still glitch out if he’s in a sheer rage, but for the most part, he’s stable and has an actual body, rather than possessing one of the egos or Jack. (The angrier he gets, the more unstable he is and the scarier it is for you because if he grows intangible you are FUCKED. However he WILL possess egos or Jack to fuck with the other egos/Jack if he isnt the one possessed because he thrives off this being one of their worst fears. But he doesnt need their bodies for executing his plans).

His actual powers are string manipulation, electrical manipulation, shapeshifting, possession, and mind control (to an extent).

His strings are often both physical and mental- a physical representation allows him to start to break down a puppet’s spirit and give them a reminder that they are helpless without him (or they were once/are still too weak to resist him), while the mental strings allow him to actually control them through conditioned responses, manipulation/brainwashing, and even mind control and possession. (Once a puppet, always a puppet. ;) Even when the strings are “dropped” he can easily pick them back up with just a few words)

He’ll manipulate people using whatever tactics work best against them based on their personalities. Those who are attracted to power get a taste of it when under his control; those who are disobedient get put through a harsh mix of isolation, torture, and brainwashing; and those who are thirsty get manipulated by touch and false comfort/promises. (This one’s worded just so perfectly, just,,, MMMMMMM)

He doesn’t have an echo chamber BUT he DOES have a pocket universe void type thing that he hid Henrik in during his disappearance. Nobody knows how to get in or out, the SHRED of possibility you can escape is determined in that moment and is not guaranteed to work for everyone or every time you are thrown in here by him.

Each of the egos has something he wants to use them for. We share his purposes for Jackie, Marvin, Chase and Henrik. (Your idea for his need for JJ is heckin Big Brain though :O)

He’s spent the last two years or so studying each ego with fervor. We might have different things he’s studied and some similar ones. He ALSO studies their families to use as leverage/blackmail towards them.

After seeing how the community mocked him after Kill JSE, he decided to switch tactics. He cooled his temper and now presents himself as a cunning, manipulative being that plans for everything and knows exactly what he’s doing. But if manage to draw out his simmering rage, he won’t hesitate to make you suffer. (Sometimes he owns his rage and cruelty proudly, other times he sees way more manipulative gain in being more stable, especially towards thirstier puppets.)

His electrical manipulation allows him to tune into cameras and other electronics the way he would during a partial possession. He can reconfigure settings, watch his puppets through the cameras, track their locations, etc. He can even manipulate tens of thousands of people with a simple little glitch. (He also has tons of monitors and such of his own located all throughout locations he frequents).

His mind control works through eye contact, but with his electrical manipulation, it can work through a screen. (His strings also assist in mind control).

Disobedience. Is. Death. ;) (However highly useful long-time puppets and egos are exempt from this and instead condemned to extensive torture and isolation. Why throw away your most reliable tools if you know you can fix a bug theyre having? ;D)

the riley hair doesn’t have a clip so I am going to assume you mean the Peyton hair since it was released in the same month. It wouldn’t really be possible to do Peyton without the clip since it has a part of the hair going up into the clip.
