Jack and his roommate Cas weren't on great terms. Jack had moved in a few months ago, finding Cas through a listing on craigslist-- only the listing didnt mention that Cas was a complete bigot. The daily berating was getting annoying, and Jack wanted to move out but the lease wouldnt be over for a few more months.

As he was doomscrolling tiktok he got an ad for some sort of new social media app called Facets that seemed targeted at gay people.

howdy all! some big announcements!!!

first, im nearing the end of my master's program, studying rhetoric and writing, games, and educational psychology. im about halfway done with my thesis, and figured it was time to make an announcement …

my thesis, entitled "designing ​spiritkeep​: therapeutically applied RPGs as a discourse community" is … about what it says on the tin :) in it, I look at the practice of TA-RPGs, which are TTRPGs run for the express purpose of inducing therapeutic growth. TA-RPGs are usually run by a clinician, like a therapist or counselor, or a certified therapeutic game master. my thesis is looking at the needs of therapeutic game masters as a community and asking … what do they need from TTRPGs that isn't currently available?

the thesis takes concepts from rhetoric, linguistics, game studies, literature studies, psychology, and more to ask the question … what would a TTRPG specifically designed for therapeutic use look like? i examine concepts like bleed, close to home characters, dramatic rehearsal, performative speech acts, fixed vs growth mindsets, information processing theory, and more. i also look at criteria set forth by current TA-RPG practitioners for what makes a good TA-RPG, and examine five current games against those criteria. then, i put together the research into a foundation for spiritkeep, a dedicated TA-RPG

spiritkeep is designed around the goal of helping teens and adults heal from complex trauma

that said, its perfectly suitable for a homegame as well, as long as everyone is on the same page and approaches it with the mindset of collaborative growth. all in all, it's still going to be a fun game and a good TTRPG!!

in spiritkeep, you play as a smalltown taskforce with the shared goal of restoring your currently struggling community to a thriving state. you go out on missions like finding resources, diplomacy with neighboring cities, researching ecological problems, and more, while you slowly make your town a better place to live. spiritkeep includes collaborative worldbuilding, a large assortment of playbook options like the Wayfarer, the Knight, the Ghost, or the Shepherd (all designed to hit where it hurts, at least a little!), and a brand new system inspired by PBtA, FitD, BOB, WoD, and more. while the game is designed around grappling with identity and learning how to grow, it can also get a bit tactical and crunchy!! the new dice mechanic makes you think on your feet with every roll

this announcement is also to say that i am beginning the initial crowdfunding of the game through itch. right now, im trying to raise funds to pay the fee to my school to make my thesis open access, meaning anyone can read it. then, remaining funds will go towards things like resources, consultants, art for the kickstarter, and everything else i need to get this project off the ground. ideally, ill be able to team with a publisher to cover the logistics of business while i can focus on the game itself. once the game is finished, there will still be plenty of playtesting, consulting, and other work to do. but!!! this post marks my first steps towards what has been my dream for years now

//i know i literally just posted about what might be the next soul-sucking series for me but this idea is tossing me in a wok and cracking an egg over me like im day-old rice. oh and my ten million exams ig. you can kind of think of this as like a preview into the dynamic for the series.

The best part about the mid-year months is definitely when stores go on their end of season sale and you can walk in and pick up a bra for less than the price of a paperback book, a steal in this horrid economy.

Of course, this only works under the assumption that you find your size, which is why you always pray to anyone willing to listen to your selfish prayer to always find your size no matter the cost.

Safe to say, you return with the spoils of your conquest. Triumph is too light a word to describe what is blooming in your chest, this must be what cheetahs feel like when they actually get a kill.

"You're looking excited, did something good happen?" Your boyfriend's hums amusedly from his seat, his eyes sweeping over your form to glance at the shopping bag hanging off your shoulder and the large cup of tea in your other hand.

With a prideful look, you set down your cup on the counter before approaching him. Giddily, your delight is barely disguised by a lilting giggle, "5-dollar sale for selected bras and underwear."

"Aaand I just so happen to find my size~."

Digging through the bag to retrieve what you've bought, you present them to him with a wide smile pulling at your lips.

Phainon only tilts his head, dumbly noting, "They look nice."

"Do you wanna see them on me?" You wait for him to respond.

The answer he gives you isn't verbal, rather it seems like he's dumbstruck at the idea. A rosiness tinges the tips of his ears, and perhaps due to his natural features, the blush that spreads around his cheeks is extra noticeable, his whole face almost engulfed in shy flush.

You tilt your head too, mimicking him. Only then does he seem to catch on, incoherently sputtering out this and that before settling on simply nodding his head, the enthusiasm of which also seems to cast an excited sheen in his eyes.

But when he looks at you like that, it's pretty hard to not let it affect you.

In a swift move, you remove your shirt and unclasp the bra you were wearing to slip on the first bralette, your boyfriend's scandalised gasp peeping out the first moment a bit of waist came to display.

"You've literally been inside me," Your voice is muffled by your shirt, yet it's clear he can hear you well and fine.

Once more, as if a Victorian man seeing a little bit of knee for the first time in his life, he murmurs behind his hand, "I know! That doesn't mean I was expecting you to strip right in front of me."

Just that pulls a bark of laughter from you, and as you finally adjust the band around your chest, you make an experimental twirl, trying to catch every detail through the full-sized mirror by the two of you.

"I saw this and thought it looked pretty comfortable you know? And I have so many shirts that are too low cut so at least now I have something lower to wear beneath them."

The patterns on the lace really does look nice against your skin, you made a good choice to pick this colour.

"That looks..." He chokes out, "...good."

Whipping back to face him, you once more find your boyfriend peeking through the gaps of his fingers, covering his eyes and mouth as if whatever you're showing him is truly so violating.

"Do I look that ugly?"

"No! No, no, no. Of course not, you're—"

His sputtering is only interrupted when he looks up to your horrible suppression of your amusement, your features scrunched together in vain attempt. In the face of your clear humour, those eyes that you've grown so weak to, grow glassy as that aggrieved glint shines within them.

Your bottom lip catches between your teeth, a fluttering feeling enveloping your chest. All you can do is ruffle up his hair, messing with that cute little cowlick of his before you step outside his reach.

"Wait here, I think you'll like this one," Humming, you glide to your closet to look for something, eyes scanning a certain pile of folded up fabric as your hands reach for silky white frills and mesh stockings. When you find it, you disappear into the bathroom to put everything on.

If you'll be honest, you bought a pair of suspenders long before you even got with him and it was more of a practical reason than aesthetic. Your love for thigh-high socks was only decremented by the fact that they kept slipping down and, in your desperation (and your stinginess), you ended up buying a white pair with frills at the waist. You're certain it was a part of some bridal set, but you'll never know.

It was weird wearing it at first, almost felt like you were doing something illegal, but it did its job really well. You walked for hours in these things and your socks didn't budge an inch. Naturally, it became a part of your usual wear.

And now with your new additions, you suppose they can finally fulfill what they were made to do.

As you buckle the waistband of the suspenders behind your back, you tentatively open the door to approach Phainon, who was now sitting a little straighter than before.

The weight of his gaze lays on your neck, along the curve of your clavicle and the cut of the bra. He goes further down, to your waist decorated with soft frills, gaze trailing to the waistband of the matching panties whose waistband dig into the plush of your hips, and to your thighs hugged by semi-opaque stockings.

Each step forward almost feels like you're walking further into a trap of your own design, but you can't find it within yourself to escape.

"Does it look good?"

"Yeah," Breathlessly, he reaches out but just before his hands can rest on your skin, he stops, as if unsure where to put them. Yet, the awe in his eyes, the way he looks up at you, when you return that ardent gaze through the mirror, you find nothing but yourself reflected within them. You look away, like staring into the bright daylight for too long, and in your inattention, he places his hands on your hips. "Yeah, it is."

" 'd you like it?" Through your own sudden shyness, your voice hums low and cautious.

And now that you manage peeks of yourself in the mirror, you're not quite sure whether it was a good idea to put so much effort into this. "I thought it looked a little too bridal but oh-!"

Pulled firmly onto his lap, you find yourself securely straddled atop of him, to bask in the full attention of your reverential partner. You never noticed it but, when you're so close like this, you can see how blown out his irises are, how that sky blue are mere rings compared to the gold of his regard.

His voice is soft, the sound coming not from his throat but elsewhere, "I do. I really do."

"You look so pretty with this lace and—" His touch dances along your skin, and beneath air-conditioning and his warm fingers, he coaxes a shaky exhale from your lips. Still, he continues his admiring, lays fleeting touches along the seams of elastic and your sensitive nerves. "—white suits you perfectly."

As if shedding his previous modesty, he leans forwards to press his face into your chest, looking up at you once more with that innocent look. In this context, with his actions, its less than innocent, it's more than clear he likes it.

"Honestly, you could be wearing a potato sack, and I'd still think you would be the most beautiful person I've ever seen."

A smile, one that you only briefly fight against, tug at the corners of your lips. "Don't say that. Burlap's too rough."

"I should come with you next time," His breath is warm, fanning over your lace-veiled skin as he sighs, almost melancholic in dramatics.

"And let mr mustard yellow and purple decide?"

"Heeey, it's not that bad. You look great in yellow."

Your amusement comes out in a humming breath, crinkling your eyes before placing a hand atop of his wandering one.

"If you can find something in yellow, and it actually looks half decent," "I'll wear it for you," You muse, trying to recall any stores that actually offer anything of your criteria.

He holds you a little tighter. "Is that a challenge?"

"That depends on you and any designer with more than three braincells."

You pat his hand, shift your weight to get yourself up. "Come on, I need to change out of this."

Instead, Phainon drags you back down onto his lap, back to straddling him, to feeling the most physical evidence of his 'liking' throb against you.

"I think..." Bringing a hand to cup your face, he takes advantage of your momentary shock to bridge the minute gap between you two. "...you should keep it on for a little bit, at least until we're done."

Gentle, you feel his breath against your lips before anything else. And as he presses further into the kiss, coaxes a pathetic noise from your throat, your head swims from just this simple act.

If something as simple as this could get him so riled up, you only wonder how he'll react when he sees the other sets you have.

HAPPY BIRTHIVERSARY part 2 - Crop Tops & Punk Skirts

FUN FACT: The Sims 2 (2004) was released 3 days before the date upon which I was released from my mother's womb, therefore making me younger than The Sims 2 by 3 days as of September 14th 2024, but objectively older by 6 years as of September 17th 2024. As of this post, it is now my birthday. I can feel the hands of time slowly pulling me into the earth. Let's celebrate!

Today's Very Special Birthiversary post includes a set of stylish, vaguely Scene-inspired clothes for ladies: 24 recolors of the Urban Primitive skirt, separated from the Maxis outfit by Skell, and 5 Goth themed patterned recolors and 5 bright solid recolors of the 4t2 Bow Crop Top by MDPthatsme, with black tank top undershirts attached using textures by DeeDee. The clothes are for AF and TF, with Standalone and Repositoried options for TF, and they come with all morphs.

All meshes are included and special characters that would make the game load slower (specifically hyphens) have been removed from the filenames. Since the skirt is from the ever popular Maxis Match Repository Project, you probably have the mesh for the skirt lying around in your Downloads somewhere, so make sure you don't have duplicates.

For the skirts, there are two versions with tights - one of which is a mashup of fishnets by Io (colored red and black) and the Maxis black and white stockings, and the other is the Maxis shorts+fishnets texture because I liked it - and one version with bare legs, which can be used with @themeasureofasim's stockings accessory boxes. (actually only a handful work, see under the cut)

The crop tops and the skirts are 'meant' to be paired together but, being separates, you can mix and match with any other top or bottom you want.

I wanted to recreate this outfit using only textures, because I know nothing about meshing and Milkshape scares me. As you can probably tell, I got a little carried away from the original goal.

I mashed a bunch of patterns, textures, and colors together on top of the crop top and skirt in an effort to learn 'advanced' recoloring of clothes in GIMP, as the most I've ever done before was just recoloring using pre-made PSDs. it was a bit of a disorganized disaster and there was quite a bit of blood, sweat, and tears. But the end results look... mostly nice, I think.

The arm warmers and fishnet gloves shown in the preview are a pair of accessories created by katsurinssims that I used to try to 'complete' the look, and are not included in this download.

Edit: im very sorry, I only tested a handful of the accessory stockings on the bare legs skirts, because I was very tired and there are A Lot of them, and assumed they would all work. But after a bit more testing, some of them have small gaps or poke through the boots, and the ones that are supposed to go over the crotch area end up looking like over the knee socks. Other than that, most of the knee high socks and tights work, but only on AF. I don't consider this a huge problem though, because a good amount of the tights work and the ones with gaps are barely noticeable.

There's a shoe swap that makes all of the boxes work with these skirts and I'll make another versIon of them with that mesh later.

Okay in reality this is a bit more hurt/comfort than just straight up angst, i just think its way funnier to call it that. Anyway, Calo gave me a little preview of this beautiful artwork before it got posted, and it gave me instant brainrot bc secret life perpetually does insane cocomelon shit to my head whenever i think abt it. I think i have 2 fics centered around it already and by gods with this one im gunning for a third.

The basic idea is just playing off of the dialogue already in the art, BUT!!! One of my favorite things in the world is when characters in disguise reveal things about themselves that they never would if they werent wearing some sort of mask. When Calo told me that Scar knew who Grian was but was pretending not to, i saw the world's best opportunity to do a little character prodding❤️🥰

85% of this fic is in script format, since i didnt want to lose the dialogue as it came to me-- but i do plan to write things out properly and post it, once i get the brain blast for it (so if youve been wondering why i havent reblogged it yet..... YEAH THATS WHY SKDNWKDJSK)

I dont wanna give too much away, but heres one of my favorite exchanges ive written in the dialogue:

[Silence as they pick their way over to TRADER SCAR’S] GRIAN: [abruptly] Do you like it here? SCAR: Sor— repeat that? GRIAN: Do you like it here. [Looking steadily at TRADER SCAR’S] You seem… happy. SCAR: … Well, there’s a word for it. [Slowly, testing the waters] I like building. I like the canvas, I suppose. [Carefully] What about you? GRIAN: [startled] Me? SCAR: Yes, you! I mean, surely you’ve got better things to do than hang about here, right? [A playful nudge] Any canvases of your own? GRIAN: … No. Nothing like that. SCAR: [blink blonk] You aren’t a winner? GRIAN: A what? SCAR: Why, a winner, of course! That’s what this place is for, isn’t it? For— [faltering] for winners? GRIAN: You call this a win? SCAR: It’s certainly not a loss.

Theres lots of little implications that arent explicitly on-script rn that i want to write in properly later, but the atmosphere around this conversation makes me WILD whenever i think abt it💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 pov the guy you love openly admits he does not see what happened in 3rd life as a win despite literally being here with the other winners. Pov the guy you love holds a grief so tight heay as well be pressurizing it into a diamond around his heart. IDK IT JUST DOES CRAZY SHIT TO ME WHEN GRIAN ROUNDABOUT ADMITS TO HIS GUILT AND HOW 3RD LIFE BROKE HIM!!!! GET FOREVER CHANGED BOY!!!! really weird to think that, when i started this fic, i had no real idea where to take it, and thought the end was kind of derivative; i pushed really hard to make it feel earned and like a natural conclusion. everyones kind words have made me feel much better about it so, thank you for that :')

this was the first multi-chapter thing i have ever posted in my many years writing fic, reader insert or otherwise, and im really glad this is the fandom i debuted such a 'long form' fic in because i have gotten nothing but support and it means the world!!!!! ily!!!!! i wouldn't have dedicated so much time and effort into refining this thing without everyones comments and asks and such. im very proud of what i put out

(there are admittedly some things i wish i wouldve done differently but it wouldnt be the same story then, so...) (happy to answer any questions on that front if people are curious also!)

the 'yayyy they kissed' is a nice little pin if that is where the audience wants it to end, but it is not lost on me that ford has a true plethora of trust issues down to his core and that isnt going away because someone admitted to enjoying his presence. that stuff takes time and even if i can handwave ford and reader having months of communique behind them, whatever theyve got going on now is new territory and that starts from square one.

ALL this being said, the original idea for "Evidence in the Epistolary" was maybe 3 paragraphs of backstory in ANOTHER fic i was working on back in feb. so now.... i will simply return to that fic to explore what comes next. it'll take a much different shape than originally intended but is meant to explore ford and the reader learning to trust and be patient with one another, in terms of being intimate or otherwise. the plan is to make it nsfw -- we'll see how far i get in this idea since, despite my ao3 track record, i dont write smut often and think its one of my weaker skills. so this will be a fun way to train those muscles! hopefully! maybe?

(there may also be a third fic somewhere in the works but dont worry about that)

it'll be a little bit of time until the next fic is ready to start posting, mostly cause its still majorly unplanned vis-a-vis plot (its currently all vibes), but ill be steadily chipping away at it! in the meantime, i may try to write short things to stay up-to-date in the fandom and continue to get to talk to people about this old man <3 awkward old man enjoyers unite

Canto 8 thoughts

Oooooh what a beautiful canto... the relatively happy ending was refreshing, compared to the other bittersweet endings. Haven't read Dream of the Red Chamber so whatever Xue Baochai and Jia Yuanchun are planning scares and intrigues me. We may go to another district cause of Baochai causing trouble, but next canto is Ryoshu's so I doubt that.

Aaaah the xianren, the xianren... It was a very nice reveal, their designs are gross and I love them(designs) very much. I wonder how the half-robot one felt during canto 3. Also Jia Mu being the palaquin for the parasite being a metaphor for how shes just a host for the elder's desires. Also also Jia Mu told Xichun (during the ritual) how she was also scared when she was her age, which gives me just a little sympathy for that awful grandma.

Xichun's presence in this canto was very much appreciated. Learning that she doesn't even have a birthday and the way newborns have to be hidden was sad. Hong Lu sharing his birthday with her would be super sweet, however knowing that the elders were always watching takes away a bit of joy from that. It's nice that choose not to do anything I suppose. Ishmael getting the Xichun id is pretty darn obvious, Yi Sang as Wei was a bit unexpected but welcomed (hopefully new 00 id? We haven't had one since the Check-up event, but having Yi Sang get the last two 00 ids would be a bit rude I suppose).

Kong Qiu is also a nice surprise, a character that seemed to be set up as a hateful character seeking vengance actually turned out to be our ally and an overall fair guy. What Hong Lu needed was for his brother to beat the shit outta him. I also reaaaaaally liked Zigong, very pretty lady. May be drawing her... WILL be drawing her. Unfortunatly Zilu Faust's uptie story provided seemingly no hint on who may recieve the Zigong id but confrimed that Hong Lu will be getting the Kong Qiu id. I suppose it makes most sense for Outis to get the Zigong id, which would be Outis's second dark-haired lady with red streaks id. Personally I'm not complaning.

Lei Heng... Lei Heng... As a person who likes Ryoshu his existence confuses me. At the same obviously I strongly dislike him but at the same time he gave us info about Ryoshu... But I don't understand why she isn't one of the sinners with a metal plate, sure, Ryoshu is an alternate reading of Yoshihide but those are still two different names. Unless Ryoshu gets revealed to be part of Yoshihide's full name, she's still going by a name that isn't her real name, so why no metal plate? Oh well I guess I'll wait some months to see what's up.

One thing Im confused about is Baoyu's jade eye... there's that one cg showing what seems to be someone inserting the jade into baby Baoyu with tweezers, yet Baoyu's mother says that he was born that way... ah maybe I missed a line somewhere. Or his mother was just lying so Baoyu can be treated specially without anyone getting suspicious. Most likely that.

And just like with all the songs that come out of this game, I'm currently obsessed with Tian Tian. When Hero came out I appreciated them waiting around a week to post the full version cause spoilers but now with the Tian Tian preview I feel like Im getting edged.

Now this had me thinking... Would Willowpelt die in the same way as canon (although to another creature im assuming since bb!badgers aren't as dangerous as they are in canon)? If she's getting kept around longer, maybe Cricketclaw is the one who sacrifices herself instead? That sounds like a fitting way for her to go, considering she couldn't protect her own siblings?

I feel like I should add a TM to anything that I'm working on in my drafts that has significant progress and is blog-plot-relevant, that will explain something exactly like this LMAO

Willowpelt's brush with death is staying, and is actually a bit plot relevant in Firestar's Quietus! I have a very specific scene which is actually totally written out-- actually fuck it, I'll just post it here

Context and narrative purpose of this scene:

Firestar is informed of a boar on the territory, and gathers a little scouting patrol to try and figure out what sort of hog it is.

VERY IMPORTANT SEGWAY. Because of how Willowpelt gets bitten here and Firestar loses a life saving Sorrelpaw, they all end up in the Cleric's den where Ferncloud is telling a story both to practice her new job as upcoming Educator and to comfort everyone.

The fact Willowpelt is not dead is how I get Littlecloud away from Runningnose and Firestar

Runningnose has a hunch, in this moment, that goody two-shoes little Firestar might be the perfect person to help Brokenstar, and teases the visions and revelations he's about to have

Establishes that boars are the new Big Bad Beastie of BB

Presents Sorrelpaw's epilepsy and demonstrates how it is a danger to her safety

(this is a lot of buildup but this is actually pretty short lmao)

So anyway before I let you go on to the readmore and a preview of Firestar's Quietus, no one takes Willowpelt's death here, and Willow is going to hang on for longer. I wanted to make sure I have a good amount of cats to kill off in the carnage of the White Hart's destruction.

Wherever Cricketclaw dies, it will be for a purpose. Either to show how bloody the TNP conflicts are, or in a greencough epidemic because I'm trying to make sure those aren't just "Kill a bunch of randos offscreen" disease anymore.

WILLOWPELT'S BOAR

The patrol is Sandstorm and Sorrelpaw, Willowpelt, Longtail and Sootpaw, and himself. It's just supposed to be for scouting, hence why the apprentices are coming along.

Unfortunately the hog has other plans, lunging out of a bush and going for Sootpaw

Willowpelt jumps in the way and gets bitten instead

Sorrelpaw acts quick, slashing its sensitive nose, drawing its attention and bolting as fast as she can

RIGHT as she crosses the Thunderpath, her body goes limp and she falls to the ground

She is having an absence seizure, and fallen flat on the road

The hog is hot on her heels, bowling after her, when a monster screeches to a halt out of nowhere

The hog is frozen in the headlights, Firestar bursts into action to pull Sorrelpaw out of the road

(i hear your heart beat to the beat of the drums) BUMP BUMP

The boar and Firestar have been hit by, have been struck by, an automobile

When he sees StarClan, they're about to greet him with love. But their faces turn to shock and fear, the scenery becoming sinister and trees falling down.

A fifth oak tree is crashing down towards them. Firestar stares at it, dumbstruck.

Just before it strikes him, his eyes snap open

Firestar resurrects with a burst of energy, dragging Sorrelpaw off the road and into the safety of a fern on the ShadowClan side

The humans are coming out of the car to examine the boar they struck, but Firestar doesn't have time to consider that or his vision.

Littlecloud's head pokes out of the foliage and he springs into action, checking them both for injury. Breathless, Firestar points behind him and rasps, "Willowpelt!"

Littlecloud nods and bolts across the road.

Runningnose saunters out from a different angle-- one where he would have been able to see the road. Everything that happened.

His gaze is unsettling as ever, pausing, eyeing the leader up and down.

He starts tending to Sorrelpaw, then mumbles,

"Brave of you."

"It's what any leader would have done."

"No. It's what you always do."

Firestar doesn't know how to respond to that, but he's glad Runningnose isn't staring at him anymore.

But continues, "You will learn terrible things in the days to come, Firestar, and StarClan will not answer the questions that find you. If you seek the truth, meet me by the mothermouth on the night after the next gathering."

Sorrelpaw is leaning up now, her eyes dazed and confused, as if she's trying to figure out what happened.

“You won’t tell anyone?”

��That ain’t nobody’s business but ours, baby”, he strokes your cheek with his thumb, looks you up and down for a moment, “It’s just between you and me”. 

You slink down onto his lap, your legs resting on either side of his thick thighs, and his hand finds your waist again. Time is running out and you know you have to leave soon, as soon as possible really, but you need him somehow and you can’t pull yourself away. 

“Isn’t it wrong?” you ask, knowing the answer, 

He shrugs, doesn’t look even a bit bothered, and you know that after the last twenty years, being the side piece for a woman like you can’t be considered anything other than very, very right. 

You stay quiet for a little while too, feeling the warmth of his touch, slowly winding your hips to find him already hard again in his jeans. 

“Can I come back? On Friday?”, you wrap one of his curls around your finger, pull it taut for a second before letting go, and watch it spring back into place, “Jay has patrol again, so-”

“Whenever you want, sweetheart” he murmurs, and kisses you carefully, “I’ll write down my work schedule, door’s always open for ya”

since animation is literally your major, is there any details from the Sonic X Shadow generations clip we saw today that you might want to talk about?

OK SO major spoilers under the cut for the preview of the Sonic x Shadow gen prolouge

i was WAY too busy fangirling to give a proper analysis BUT when it does come out fully i might just do one, also please take note im still in my second year of studying to be an animator so these are purely my opinion. for now i can point out a few things that i genuinely want to talk about.

first thing that stood out to me was that 2D-3D style of animation, definitely something i dont think we've seen be done for the franchise before (correct me if im wrong) and it reminds me so much of RWBY in a way. There were some bits that, to me, looked choppy BUT THEN AGAIN those were the parts that needed to be choppy for emphasis reasons, specifically it was at the start where Shadow is having some sort of break down. its obvious from how choppy his movements are in comparison to the smoothness of the rest of the preview that shadow was genuinely shaking. with that 2D-3D style that choppyness looks janky as fuck but its so perfect for conveying how uptight and bottled up shadow's emotions are. its so hard to try and capture what im saying but trust me its there!!

second thing i wanna point out are the camera angles. they shift so much to serve the dramatization of the scenes and its so ✨JUICY✨like i shit you not, i cant stop staring at the different camera angles and going "oooohhh ahhhhh" and trying to rationalize the reasoning for those angles because HOLY SHIT they're so good and they actually do serve a really good cinematic purpose!! its easy for people to get lost in the changing of perspectives and camera angles but this? oh this does it so good that it actually drives the plot FORWARD instead of it seeming like separate scenes mashed together.

third thing I'll point out is the scene color shifts. when doing something cinematic, ambiance is key. so when the scene shifted from this soft and comforting blue hues

to this eerie red so suddenly with our only warning being a slight shaking of the screen??

that made it such a surprise that it gets the viewer on alert!! a good thing!!!

now i can go on and on about the different colors for each scene but let me just touch up on this one scene in specific:

it quickly goes from hopeful gold/good light to ominous black/no light, very contrasting, which can mean oh so many things... most notably; maria's hope vs shadow's resolve.

fourth thing ill touch up on are the frames where shadow runs. specifically the one where he runs out of frame from maria.

we get almost 1 frame of a model and then...

these frames here? chefs kiss, perfect. showing us just how fast shadow really is, so fast that we the light from his airshoes doesnt catch up until a fraction of a second later!!! even the glow in the doorway changes to reflect that short millisecond split.

fifth thing ill point out and its a small little thing thats making me absolutely rabid:

he fucking glows.

and yeah, sure, you can argue that its bounce light, its most probably is bounce light since its under harsh light conditions BUT if that was the case the glow wouldnt be this vibrant of a shade and it would give an aura and not specifically on his markings. just a little thing i noticed that i will get to screaming about when i post this.

last thing i wanna touch up on is the sound effects. they were just so very crunchy and pared up with the animation style?? oh it was delicious!! i have some issues with the lip sync but then again they were trying to go for an anime/western cartoon hybrid style here so its bound to be off on the lip sync.

anyway, thanks for listening to my silly ramblings, its nothing too impressive just a fangirl fangirling. now if you'll excuse me, ill go scream to the eclipse nation about glowing hedgehog.

I'm so close... Im so fucking close.... All that's left is Belos raising Jasper's staff, and I suspect that will be a lot easier than it looks once I actually start on it... And the actual reaching into the dirt and digging shot. I'm afraid of that one. I am unsurprised I have left it for last.

And then... Cleanup time. Ive got some things to retime, some colours to adjust... But it shouldn't take TOO long, probably a day or two max and it's MUCH less labour intensive than actual animating.

I also have a promo going up tomorrow!! I'm committing baby. It's a short I'm posting on YouTube with a little synth piano jabberwocky cover snippet and a few choice pieces of animation, and then 10/14/24 on a black screen. Wham. Bam. Intrigue. Excitement. It's coming! What is it! It's something!

Obviously those who know me personally know what it is. And anyone who really engages with my stuff even if they don't know me might have read my ao3 or followed me here or something and they've seen it and know it's coming. But the vast majority of people who are going to see it tomorrow will have NO Idea What The Fuck Is That. Fingers crossed it gets at least a LITTLE hype

I've got two other promos edited and scheduled. They use the same audio. Id like to do something with a bit of voicework, a line or two, just over some animation preview. but if I can't get anything Im satisfied with together I'll just post those and it will be fine

raysand/sandray theories + analysis

(because im insane)

This is a little post where I'll be focusing on what's to come for raysand mostly based on the trailer (original trailer too) and what we already know from the episodes that have aired already. I'll be using pictures so the text doesn't feel too eavy.

Also want to mention I didn't think about all of this myself, it's mostly a compilation of me and my friend throwing ideas and thoughts at one another and I decided to make a post on this now because me and her predicted something that happened on yesterdays episode...

Before I begin, considering it's based on our thoughts, ideas and what we know of the trailer (which is often edited in a way where sometimes certain dialogue doesn't end up being the same one we see on the episodes) please take everything with a grain of salt. If you want to share your opinions, feel free to do so my inbox is open!

Let's begin!

Although this is mostly a theories focused posted, I do want to first talk a little bit about how Ray & Sand's relationship is at the moment.

We all know things are going to escalate more but for now both Ray and Sand consider each other as friends. I've mentioned this in another post before (that has recently been deleted because it wasn't very well written) but one of Sand's best qualities and what makes him, in my eyes, the best character in this series, is that out of everyone else he's KIND.

First episode we have him meeting Ray for the first time and the only reason he got mean was because Ray was being an asshole first. Yet, after all of that, he still understood Ray was drunk and he gave him a ride to his own home, let him puke on his toilet, gave him a place to sleep on... All of this to a complete stranger by the way! You can't with certainty tell me everyone would do something like this. In return, Ray acted like an asshole once again which lead him to being kicked out of Sand's place (later on I'll talk about why I think Ray reacted that way), and eventually Ray did end up apologising which I think was something Sand didn't expect.

Another thing that made it more easy for Sand to forgive Ray was when Ray said "Thanks for saving my life." which was a very honest thing to say and Sand realised that, he kind of got a little bit of an insight of what Ray truly is like. I often see people commenting about Ray being dramatic by saying that when he was not. He meant what he said and frankly Sand DID save his life. Had Sand left him alone, Ray would've driven while drunk which could've very well ended in an accident.

Fast forward, Ray keeps seeking him out (another thing that will come into play later on), hires him to be his drinking buddy, convinces him to leave a girl Sand was trying to take home to drive to drive him instead, they have a talk, seem to be on the same page, hook up and everything is fine. For now.

This is the first fight they have in the trailer. I think, at this point, they have already started to hang out more and being more close together, so Sand is starting to expect more from Ray, specially the way Ray acts around him, always being flirty, always saying certain things ("I care about your feelings. That's why I'm here." previews are always a bit deceitful so maybe Ray isn't even saying this to him but we move), always going after him, always wanting Sand to spend time with him, but at the same time saying they can never be more than what they already are, which will most likely give Sand a lot of mixed feelings.

Just like we saw on yesterday's episode, Ray will most likely keep leaving Sand for Mew, which I don't really mind considering that Ray is a girls girl and he will always put his friends above himself, but at a certain point I get why Sand would get upset considering they are friends too and it's just very horrible being the one left behind specially when you keep get mixed messages from this guy you're starting to like. He'll probably realise there's something between Mew and Ray too.

In this fight scene, Ray is probably once again leaving Sand for Mew which is why Sand says "Focus on me for once will you?". In return Ray says this:

"What are we to each other?" is a very key sentence in their relationship. The way I see it Ray will too start questioning their relationship, thinking "What are we?" because they'll both be floating around each other but no one will ever say anything. I'll get a little bit more into Ray's personality later on but Ray might be just as confused as Sand, he probably never had a relationship quite like what they both have and it's scary. At the same time, he could also just be saying that to be mean (I'm not trying to paint him as a villain, I love him and this all ties in with what I'll be saying later about his personality."

The second fight scene we see in the trailer. I don't know if any of you remember but in the original trailer there's a scene where they're both in the car and Sand says "I don't want to be in anyone's choices." (there's also a scene where Ray gets arrested but we won't talk about that), which could mean Sand doesn't want to be a choice, someone in a "competition" with someone else, but the one Ray would want to be with no matter what.

This scene we're seeing is most likely the equivalent of that scene in the old trailer. I think at this time in their relationship Sand has already confessed that he wants more from Ray, that he doesn't want to keep being a "choice" and that he wants them to be in a relationship which leads to them having a fight, and eventually to Ray saying this.

Now, I can finally get into Ray's personality and the reason why he acts defensively in both of these scenes with Sand. Ray is scared. I do think Ray has a crush in Mew but I don't think it has ever been more than a crush, Ray just hasn't let it go because it's safe and easy. He likes Mew, Mew doesn't like him back and that's it, he doesn't have to worry about complicated feelings. But then Sand comes along and he is unbelievable KIND and he treats Ray like a normal person, he's honest, he doesn't push back and even apologise for being nosy about Ray's mother, he worries about him when he's drunk, he talks back and he's FUN to be around, he never wanted anything from Ray even after taking him home when he was drunk, he refused to accept money from them hooking up, he gave up one of his nights to sing at Yo's bar just so he could sing at Ray's party...

I mean, since episode 1 we've been getting a look into Ray's self worth. He thinks he's worthless and a burden, probably because he's an alcoholic, and I'm sorry to say but his friends don't really help him when it comes to that. He doesn't want to keep burdening his friends with this so he turns towards Sand, hires him as his drinking buddy, to just listen to music with, have fun and relax, he even says "I just don't want to be alone." and even later on Sand sayshe can be his friend without having to hire him he even says "If you're my friend, you have to look after me in every way." and Sand does just that!

Ray is confused and he probably has never had someone to be this way towards him in his life, someone that wants to help him (with his alcoholism as well I'm fairly sure), someone that cares this much about him, but most importantly, confused as to why he's feeling this way thinking "Don't I like Mew? Why do I feel this way towards Sand?", so of course he's scared about what he's feeling and he's scared of being vulnerable and ending up being hurt, so he pushes Sand away by being mean. It's all too much for him.

What's worse is that Sand has been the only one setting up rules like the not sleeping with each other more than once, saying he'd never date someone like Ray and other less significant situations but Ray always convinces him to break those same rules (wonder why that is...) which Sand is at fault too like, my guy you need to be confident and just say no. Sand most likely set those same rules precisely because of an old relationship that started this way and ended up horribly so he's trying to not commit that same mistake again. This time I think Sand will fight back instead of just letting go like his old relationship, probably because he can tell Ray feels the same way as him.

Then we have this scene, It's a bit ambiguous because it's impossible to know exactly in what part of the timeline of this relationship this fits in but I personally like to think it's after all the fights Ray finally takes some time to think and get his feelings in order and realise what exactly Sand means to him and this is the scene where Ray goes and finds Sand to apologise and I guess 'confess'. It also fits really well with the last scene I'll talk about which is the bathtub scene.

In this scene we can clearly see Ray breaking down crying in a bathtub while Mew is hugging him from behind (in the old trailer Mew had clothes on so this doesn't really make me think much). Personally, this is probably a scene where Ray feels horrible for hurting Sand and might also be the moment he realises how he truly feels for him which of course has him feeling like this. Gut wrenching heartbreak. My friend thinks it might be a time where Sand has decided to stop talking to him, refusing to see him which could also make everything worse.

To end all of this I think it's very important to note that by no means do I think either of them are in love already but no one can deny they're clearly attracted to each other and that they have a connection, but most importantly they ARE friends and they consider themselves as such no matter what, they would do a lot of things for each other, Ray even as far as defending Sand's band to Top (it's Top we're talking about whom he hates, but nevertheless) so that's something to keep in mind.

they announced some more vas while i was gone! I'm mostly going to judge these by other roles ive heard of these vas, but also the previews they posted on their pr twitter

i dont remember if i gave my reaction on sugita as sakamoto on this blog.... but im alright with it. my only gripe really is that it isnt makoto furukawa it'll probably make him seem older than he actually is (especially coupled w the gray hair) but sugita is a great va so i trust him on giving a good performance regardless of if i think it fits or not

for shin i was really set on tasuku hatanaka, but im suprised that nobunaga never crossed my mind (for any of the characters, really). im actually happy about this one, because its fairly close to what i imagined. tasuku and nobunaga both have this sort of scratchy quality to their voices that i really wanted shin to have :) nobunaga is just a tad bit deeper than i imagined, but im alright with it

and for heisuke we've got SUZUKI RYOUTA COMING IN WITH THE STEEL CHAIR honestly. a very unexpected pick. I've recently come to notice this guy a bit more... but i cannot for the life of me ever recognise his voice, so i have no idea what to expect of this role. i definitely didnt imagine heisuke this deep, but judging by his other roles he can pull off the more goofy parts of his character

and the last one i had a specific va for... lu! i imagined her being voiced by yuuki aoi- wait sorry i gotta say this. ppl in the comments for her announcement are making jokes like "wow so cool theyre adding anime original charas" 💀 BECAUSE SHE BARELY GETS TO DO ANYTHING. IM GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THIS. ITS JAPANESE FANS SAYING THIS BTW. anyways. i like this voice for her. maybe a bit too soft spoken though, i wanted her to be a little more weird.
