You shouted in excitement! Yes! This was happening!

In the exam room, they took their time questioning you and asking if you've followed all the rules you were given and checked your diet charts. Everything was in tip top shape and at this point you were trying not to visibly bounce out of your seat.

Finally, after giving you some directions and taking your personal belongings, You were sent into the room.

The simulation slid into place as you entered what looked like a palace. Not quite a castle but built to do just the same. It felt like you were in one of those places where you'd see a high noble in an anime stay.

A chime sounded, causing you to jump slightly. .“How is the atmosphere?” One of the developers asked you.

You looked around admiring the color choices. Everything dipped or tipped in gold. Some royal purples and blues.

“It's amazing.” You reply back. Letting your fingers brush on the tables and art pieces.

“Good. You may continue in.”

You followed the directions that were given to you to navigate the place soon entering a center courtyard that held many treasures. Some shiny and others worth more than the thing you already saw around this place.

In the middle was a huge bed dressed in the finest of silks and looked so inviting. Resting peacefully in the middle was a young man befitting such a large bed. His features were beautiful. Warm skin and long, straight dark hair.

Slight disappointment filled your gut. You expected him to be shifted into his form already. He was still good to look at though as he continued to rest quietly….that was until you stumbled on something as you were admiring some of his treasures he had tucked away.

“Who dare tries to steal from me?” His deep voice sounded. Filling the room. It was as if he was right in your ear.

There is an anime and while its an okay adaptation I rec the manga since you really miss out on the WHA-level art of the comic if you watch only the anime.

Girls last tour I've heard of before and it's already on the list! I don't know a ton about it but I think it's one I definitely want to get to at some point. hakumei and mikochi is 100% new to me and I'm not really into this character art style but these backgrounds are gorgeous. I always love some interesting worldbuilding and that + nice art are definitely enough to be worth my time. Humanity has declined has some nice looking colors there which is tasty to me. added to the list! Pani Poni dash I think i'll skip on because gag franchises in general are lower priority and with a list that is getting close to 200 titles long i gotta pick where to put my time.

I have yet to come across a piece of contemporary litfic I like, but to be honest that's not a huge point against it... the less i'm into any particular genre the more i feel kind of compelled to look for the exception that proves the rule. however i will say that reading about rich new yorkers is not my idea of a good time nor do i really get a lot of enjoyment out of stuff that talks about "queer nonconformity". in general, the more times the word queer is used to describe something the less likely it is to resonate with me lol. the 2.9 goodreads rating compels me a little bit... goodreads reviewers are insane so a complete mixed bag/middle of the road set of reviews means this could really land anywhere for me. i will put it on the list but probably wont be getting to this one any time in the near future

I watched orphan black when it was airing! im not sure if i ever finished it, and that was like ten years ago at this point so i dont really remember most of it or have complicated feelings on it. but regardless of anything else you could say about this show tatiana maslany's performance was fucking increeeeedible. there were so many times in this show when i forgot these were all the same woman doing this. i would need to rewatch this one in order to meaningfully recommend it or not so i think ill just stick it in the graveyard as unfinished for now

While the games I am about to talk about have male protagonists, their female characters are some of my favorites in media. They are also all written by Kotaro Uchikoshi, which is why I’m putting these in the same ask.

The whole Zero Escape Trilogy is a great time, but I’m going to focus on the first game, 9 Person 9 Hours 9 Doors here. There are 9 people and you have 9 hours to get out of here through the door with a 9 on it. Behind every numbered door is a point and click escape room the player must solve, but depending on the doors you pick the story will change. There are only 2 required endings to get the full experience but all 5 are worthwhile.

As for female characters, we have 3 in our main cast: Clover, June, and Lotus. Each appears to be a very specific archetype of character (Clover is the young naïve one, June is the childhood best friend, Lotus is the hot sassy one), and the male characters also seem simplistic at first glance. Yet as the story progresses you learn more about these characters and find some of amazing writing. Most of the details would be spoilers but I will say I expected June to be my least favorite member of the cast and she quickly became one of my favorite characters in anything. Clover isn’t as naïve as she first appears, and Lotus’ character went places I didn’t expect but make me love her more.

AI: The Somnium Files (it has a sequel but I’ll focus on just the first) is a much more recent Uchikoshi game. Many elements of Zero Escape feel like prototypes for elements of AITSF (eg. AITSF’s protagonist Date and VLR’s protagonist Sigma have similar personalities but Date ends up being much more likable whereas Sigma has his annoying side and his “oh shit plot is happening” side), but that’s a ramble for somewhere else.

As for female characters, oh my god where would I even start. Mizuki Okiura is a 12yo girl, but she’s also going through some incredibly traumatic stuff. She’s easily one of my favorite child characters alongside original trilogy Pearl Fey. Boss is a character who seems to be, like Lotus, just hot and sassy, but why is she hiding so much?

And the mothers in AITSF, oh my god the mothers. Hitomi Sagan and Mayumi Matsushira make me love each of their children more because of how much they care about them. And yet they aren’t reduced to “mother of X,” they have their own things going on that most parent characters would never get.

I could keep going but damn this is getting long. If you want me to elaborate on something specific I can :)

I've already been through all of the zero escape and somnium file games! i really love aitsf and 999 but ultimately i don't think they're the right fit to recommend for this blog. mizuki and akane in particular i do think are fantastic but ultimately i dont think either game is a right fit to recommend for this blog. kotaro uchikoshi has a complicated relationship with misogyny to say the least. it's a very nebulous line to draw but ultimately the question i ask for whether or not something belongs here is not 'would i recommend this thing that has good female characters' but 'would i recommend this thing specifically because of how the female characters are handled' and i think 999/aitsf are firmly in the former category rather than the latter.

OKAY i think thats all the ask answering i have in me for today. whew. still more than 70 messages in my inbox but it was over 90 when i started so ill consider that a win for now. ty all for the recs!

i was looking the e handbook this morning and it’s all pretty straightforward, not a ton of room for interpretation except for looking at the wording of a few of them

throwing things at the wall rn pretty much so shoot down as needed as i’m not very attached to these ideas👍👍

we’re already utilizing 15 which is the two murders and two victims first one committed is punished also also side idea i had for chapter three, since we already have kiyo as the second culprit. what do you think about shoving miu or himiko or angie in there?

i’m leaning more toward himiko or angie now that i think about it rather than miu just bc of the angst potential especially combined with korekiyo being the one who’s gonna survive the trial and all. with himiko we’re already experimenting with a very upset tenko and i feel considering her whole thing with men in canon [did you wanna change up the characters a little btw? forgot to ask] that’s just gonna upset her 10x more than if it was just himiko as the sole blackened.

and then with angie i’m completely fine killing her off since we’re going with the simulation idea and implies the shinounaga siblings will still live after the whole thing stops, anyways anyways that’s a whole tangent. by that point it’s about the midpoint of the game, meaning we sacrifice some interactions but they still get a decent amount of time together meaning! ohhh the survivors guilt korekiyo will be left with man that’d be fun to experiment with [once we settle some major details i definitely plan on trying to write out some stuff for this <33]

anyways back to the rules, aside from the pool one there’s another one that i don’t really remember what was for? i think it was added from the ch1 trial since it was so close to the limit everybody was pointing at monokuma for artificially starting something. “#9. monokuma will never directly commit a murder.”

at the current moment i’m not entirely sure how we could utilize that? but if it helps at all it does imply that it’s possible he will assist like provide things/information but he will never land a blow on the victim

otherwise the rules are super straightforward and otherwise all encompassing and are just “hey go kill, go to bed at this time, don’t try to kill monokuma, body discover is 3 people” etc etc

man we’re two people and even with all the unsettled details we’re already building a better story than a whole team of writers wow

triggers: death, violence, gore, eldritch horror, murder, abuse. and more, this one is going to be very very plot dependent. and very dark.

as we all know, malleus puts everyone to sleep. allowing them to live in their own perfect world as they dream. i love the idea that malleus is an omnipresent entity that sits and watches everyone's subconscious. i think on it's own, there are some small references to the dreamlands, from lovecraft's lore. the dreamlands are for the most part a mirror-image of our waking universe, having, as far as can be determined, the same planets, stars, and other cosmic and geographical features. 

it's also cool to reference some junji ito here too!! "the long dream" is a fascinating comic, about a strange illness. one that causes the man afflicted to live out complete lifetimes in his sleep. what is one night for those awake, is actually anywhere between 70-1000 years for him. it's a really cool comic if you're okay with the type of body horror that junji ito is known for!

everything starts off very normal for jade. it is a picture perfect copy, down to the smallest detail in his belongings. so he doesn't notice right away that he is in fact dreaming. but after a bit of time, jade notices a lot of key differences that don't add up with the actual reality he knows. there is also an uncanny perfection in general to the scenery, and the weather. it begins to put jade on edge, and makes him feel very uncertain about what's really going on.

as soon as he realizes it isn't real- jade feels relief. it's a dream. one he is clearly not waking from. as he attempts several times to go to sleep IN the dream-- only to wake up in the same simulated reality. with confirmation that it's not real, he begins to poke around so to speak. to ask odd questions( odd even for him ), to do things he might not normally do, and see how it responds.

without any clear consequences, jade's 'antics' grow more bold. he starts giving in to his impulses and whims more. because why not? who cares what happens? if he does not like someone, he tells them. if he wants to threaten someone, he will. if he wants to choke the life out of someone-- he does it. mind you, it's all gradual. but with each offense, comes no punishment. which only further twists his behavior.

eventually...jade starts having a pretty hard time telling whether it is or isn't real. or if this is just a new reality he has to adapt to and live with. time passes very strangely when you're in the dreamlands. and the world unfortunately, is going to continue to change according to your subconscious.

now im sure...? some would think jade's perfect world would be him back in the coral sea. and to some extent you're right. but, finding that he is no longer conscious- is what changes that. i do think potentially, jade's UM, and how i have it working in my own canon could have played a part in him getting 100% confirmation. considering it can force people to tell him the truth. and that a lot, if not all of it, is a fabrication of some kind by malleus. using it to find answers, could probably just tell him.

when he does wake up again- i do think jade would seem fine. but deep down he's really off kilter. he's not sure if he's actually awake or not. he'd be told what happened i'm sure. and people would reassure him that he's awake. but it'd take a while for him to really accept that everything is back to normal. and until then jade would be really off putting to be around-- a lot more than usual.

i’m thinking about one of the discord servers I’ve been in for 5+ years now and how dramatic and chaotic that place has been like just a few things off the top of my head (most of these are only the “you had to be there” type funny but just trust me)

1. one time my friends and I were in vc playing a game and a random guy joined, asked if I was a girl and then proceeded to moan and leave (first day on the internet?) i was simply. not breathing

2. my first meeting with my now best friend was that we were agreeing we liked rifle A better than rifle B and a guy told us to off ourselves for like 10 minutes bc we didn’t prefer rifle B, peak bonding time

3. it was usually me, friend X and friend Y in vc for gaming and for several months there was someone who just REFUSED to acknowledge Y like they actually acted as if he didn’t exist. didn’t speak about him. didn’t speak to him. never uttered his name. not even if Y talked to him. and would always say “you two” instead of three. it was like he wasn’t even there. idk what was up with that but. do it again

4. the amount of people that came in to lie and not think their lies through 😭 yes im sure you were dismissed from the special forces at age 19. simon fucking riley

5. we would sit in vc for hours with a music bot to listen to music together, muted. well, one time I was apparently NOT muted and it took me way too long to find out that everyone (like a lot of people) had the bot muted and was just listening to me sing without backup music I should have ran and changed my identity then

6. someone who stalked one of the voice actors of this video game irl and also tried to uncover another’s real identity and proudly detailed it all 🧍‍♀️ go to JAIL. there was way more to her too but let’s not go there

7. we played the hunger games simulator and my cat stabbed trump with a trident then proceeded to win the game. legend

8. it turned out that me and someone from the regulars lived only 10 mins away from each other and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him many times in the shop but we would both just stand there like 🧍‍♀️ and awkwardly waddle away

9. someone we had spoken to for years turned out to be a catfish. not just that, bc that’s not surprising, but they invited people to a “friend server”. except all the members were just different catfish accounts by them. power move if u ask me. i’m going to invite you to a server and all the 13 members are just me

Hey no worries i have to interact with people i dont wanna all the time & have to take a moment & not be like that myself. Oh shit its school time already? Maybe some will know but the beauty is that eventually you reach a point where nobody will who you dont want to so fuck it we ball on that one. Lakeside beaches are also very good i think mt fuji in japan has some like. Lakeside beaches that offer a good view of it & i wanna see that. Im not sure what the definition of fancier english words is here but mostly you dont need them in my experience anyways. Even specific words have workarounds. Ah so making it easier & more generic but not going into the details like they used to. Thats a shame especially with how confusing english can get. I went one town over a week or two ago & it was 108 F, or 42 c i had to convert that, at like 8 at night i was dying. Totally fair sometimes knowing when to hold off is best & its nice to enjoy stuff later for certain things. Turned out i had enough for 2 ten pulls but kafka came home on the first so my luck got burned for a bit i think. Cant wait to use her. The story is interesting but ive been having. So much fun diving in fontaine i ignored the story for a whole day. Good luck on your gear maxing & eventual ender dragon fight! Ah yes a tough choice. That i guess boils down to how much you like your family. So good luck on that decision as well! Oh please do! I found a purple that should work with my hair just need to use it when i have time. The aeons are conceptually really cool & i cant wait for more simulated universe. When i get back to it. So many side quests. My brain is a sponge for fish facts mostly. Its weird. Like antarctic sponges are theorized to live so long because the low temperature & high pressure slow their aging dramatically

Candy Cadet, the Father of Cassie and Fazbear Entertainment

❌ RUIN SPOILERS ❌

Ok, quick theory that I haven't stop thinking but I think that the story of Candy Cadet not only represents what's happening with Cassie (a monster imitating something familiar to lure someone to let it out) but to some extent gives us hints about Cassie Father and Fazbear Entertainment.

What I'm about to say is kinda of speculation and I can't show images of the messages because the power went out in my building in doing this with the Mobile data :'). But from the messages we know that Cassie dad is a technician in the Pizza Plex. And not only that but has some extent of information that the normal employee wouldn't have, for example that is imply that he knows why Bonnie was really put down.

And ¿What does it has to do with the story of Candy Cadet? Well the story goes that a monster lives in the forest where a women and her son also live. The women knew of the monster so she trapped it in the basement. The monster would growl and try to get out but never can, and to calm her son, the women would sing her a lullaby when the monster start making noise. The second part represents obviously what the mimic is doing to Cassie, but I think the first part represents if not Cassie father, Fazbear Entertainment. Gregory says that the mimic has been there a long time, probably before or after of pizza simulator. When they start building the pizza Plex they found him, and I think maybe they get the circuits that they use for VR there, but I'm not sure. They later realize that the mimic, for whatever reason, hadn't good intentions and traped him in there. But he still try to escape and they have to build M.X.E.S. And THATS when I think the Father of Cassie comes in. after all he IS a technician. I think that Fazbear use the technicians that they use for the animatronics to build M.X.E.S that would be the stand up for the lullaby in the story (and to some point the pizza Plex itself).

I know that this is a bit of a stretch but when so many mentions of Cassie dad's I think that he has to have some role into this. Besides how the mimic KNEW about Cassie ? Because yeah, I can believe that he knew about Gregory with all the thinks he did in Security breach, besides that there's still the implications that Gregory live for a time in the pizza plex. But what about Cassie? Yeah she went from her birthdays but so a bunch of kids. And Gregory never mention her. So or Somehow he found out (to the cameras or whatever) that Cassie and Gregory where friends, or by her father, because im pretty sure that the M.X.E.S needs constant maintenance, and I can see her father talk about her with his co-workers, or maybe accidentally get slide what happened in Cassie birthday, making the mimic aware of what happened. Just like in the Candy Cadet story.

We can somewhat relate to both of these! The four of us were born with the body, we consider ourselves two sets of identical twins which are semi-identical/fraternal (not sure) twins to each other. We’re all super close, we all love sharing our lives with each other, and we’re all very distinct from each other. We’ve never gotten anyone new on the top level alongside the four of us, but we are slowly coming to terms with that there might be alternate versions of us, maybe the four of us each individually have a cdd or some sort of median subsystem, but we still arent completely certain that it isnt just depersonalization or some other experience more easily explained by our cptsd, since most of those alternate versions seem to only be “emotional parts”

One of those, the only exception to the EP rule and our one and only potential introject (and the only time we’re particularly aware of someone new existing), we havent looked into typical introject experiences and labels at all because we’re still kinda in denial about it, but basically he came to be when one of us realized that it was an option to imagine kissing a crush (crush might not be the most accurate word, this was a self-destructive autism and cptsd fueled obsession, not in a stalker way but just that our brain thought he (and only he) could save us for some reason, we didnt make that his problem though), and the moment he (sysmate) started trying to mentally simulate him (crush), that person extremely suddenly started existing in our head (surprisingly, not attached to the one who had a crush on him, but attached to a different one of us). He uses his source’s first name but he only feels vaguely associated with him, hes infinitely more like us than he his like him, but he feels extremely guilty and awkward having intruded into his friends’ body and life uninvited and unwanted, he isnt really sure how to interact with our family and partners given that they arent his, etc. Basically theres an emotional disconnect with us, and he isnt twins with us, he isnt “top-level”, but thats about it, hes just like if one of the versions of us decided to use another name for some reason. … now that i think about it im not sure he is an exception to the EP rule, because hes constantly pretty occupied with guilt and awkwardness over his existence, although because of that he tries not to front much, so we dont know him well and we dont know if he would grow out of that, he is somewhat more distinct than the other states we’re tentatively calling EP’s, but i think he and all of us are lowkey hoping if we just ignore him he’ll reintegrate tbh

Just imagine you two planting flowers (eg. Hibiscuses, Marigolds, Daises, Asters, Salvias) or berries (oh god, and later making jam of them..!). Taking care of plants alternately! Because they are your babies and you need to take care of them, right? Almost like parents simulator. Going together to this big markets with plants and spending there literally hours..! Choosing these fancy pots.. OR! Making competition and planting the same plant, see which one grows prettier and faster! And what winners get? Silly question..kissess of course! Also sitting on chairs, having the view on your pretty work and just chatting or drinking tea/coffee and snuggling! Nights would be also cozy..just saying! You two sitting on a blanket, holdings hands or cuddling..dunno man, there is some warm and proud feeling when looking at your plants. Its almost like you watch your kids grown..

I have many questions one being, how? Like he is a puppet yk, but let's say you had adopted or something just one thing led to another and you guys now have a kid. Okay, I feel like Sasori would be a very decent dad (although may experiment on your kids if they are human just saying) but he would be so nice other than that. He would do all the things he never got to have as a child with his dad like playing ball, woodworking together, father-child outings just the really sweet stuff. Also fun little extra I feel like if they were puppets he would try so hard to simulate the actual human life experiences for them like taste so they can do things like eat ice cream and feel emotions.

Hidan

Hidan would be a "cool dad" by that I mean he would teach them all the wrong things. Basically, Hidan as a father to me is like if the Christian conservative dad kept all his ways of putting his beliefs on his kids but as a Jashinist anarchist. So like "NO YOU LITTLE SHITS I TOLD YOU AT LEAST 5 KILLS FOR JASHIN, OR ELSE NO ICE CREAM" It would be hilarious. Also, feel like his only rules would be "worship Jashin, don't die, and always use protection." Other than that he would be the most fun, dad, ever but your kids would never want him to pick them up from school cause all their friends would get a crush on him. Kakuzu would be the most awful damn dad istg idc what you say. Like okay okay he would be good emotionally but financially those kids gonna be looking broke af for some rich kids. he would also be super protective and shit like you wanna ask his kid out to prom okay "how much?". Mans finna try and make money out them kids. Hell, he may even sell them behind your back. But in all honesty, he would teach them how to save and spend money and raise pretty good kids.

Itachi

Itachi would be the best dad and I mean that with all my heart (and this is coming from someone who doesn't feel sexually attracted to him at all). Itachi would take your kids on outings, to go get ice cream, amusement parks, festivals, ect. Also he would be like the best at calming them down and helping them thru things like mental breakdowns or just really bad days. And when they are babies he would be so scared to shower them he would activate his sharingan to make sure they don't get hurt. Also he would def get them plushies like tons and a pet cat. Also Sasuke would be an amazing uncle and just spoil them kids rotten.

Deidara <3

Deidara would be a very awesome father, he would make sure his kids take pride in both his and their own arts. He would love to make their events a "blast" by adding cool fireworks and stuff. He would also be the type to pull pranks on all of you nothing that would hurt you guys ofc but still, it would be really funny. Also, he would blow up the kids' exes' house if needed too. (was the kid in the house when he blew it up no one needs to know <3) He would also take so much pride in his children and show them off like gold.

Pain

Pain would be a decent father he would be there for his kids when they needed him, however, he would turn them into the biggest edgelords and emos. I'm taking pure my chemical romance fans with no shame. Enough piercings to make a car with the metal, just pure edge. But he would love them to death and take care of them with his life. He would take them to hot topic every week and they would all match too.

Kisame

Kisame would be another awesome dad. He would be kinda like a beach dad where you would all live near the beach and he would teach the kids how to swim, take them to the ice cream truck on his shoulders and he would also teach them how to swim. Also, I feel like as they are learning he would do that thing where he goes underwater and pulls them under by their feet and then goes back up with them and then just laughs as they just got scared shittless. And they would all go on weekends and clean up the beach and the waters so that the animals there don't get hurt. <3

Obito would be another god of a dad, he would spoil them kids rotten. He would take them and play all the sports train them, teach them, give them piggy back rides, let them ride on his shoulders, tell them bedtime stories, ect. He would love them and you to death protecting you guys at all costs. Those kids would be going to school in damn uchiha crests and gucci istfg.
