2024, My Review

Hello. Happy new year.

My last post here was at the end of 2023. It was a long time ago since then. And, to tell the truth, I didn't followed my plans as it should have been. Well, let's me tell you what happened this year.

Let's begin with January. Two stuff happened that month: I got a job promotion with a better pay, and I was as staff inLima Game Jam, the local event connected to Global Game Jam. It was fun, with some interesting games made and some eventful situations.

Now, let's go to May. In this month I executed the only plan I keep at the beginning of the year: Taller Game Jam. I begun developing this online event since November 2023 as a game jam for the local gamedev students. At the planned day, a total of 26 participants made 6 games around a theme. It was an good experience. One that I want to make again.

Also, some IGDA Perú events were handled around that time, between May and July. Like meetups, a talk event and the Board Game Jam. At least some activities were made for the community. But after that, I didn't keep up with the community at all.

No meetups, no talks, no events. Nothing. Even more, I didn't realize my plans to make more content, like game assets or expand my games. I don't know why... or maybe I do. It could have been depression. Sometimes it happens, but it always soft so its temporal. Still, it's a problem that I must fix as it affects me.

In August, I returned to my old job position. The new job came with a better pay, more teaching hours and some administrative work. The teaching hours were fine, but the administrative part? I didn't like it. The project I was in charge in one moment ended up as a failure and I felt miserable. Just for 2 things I thought were fine. And it crossed my mind: If I continued that job... I would ended up hating it, including the teaching. So as soon my boss talked to me about it, I choose to return to my old position. Less pay but more happiness?? I guess. At least it means more time for myself for other stuff.

After that, it got better in September. As I had more free time, I begun to do freelance work again. It was part of my initial plans but, in contrast as before, I wanted to take it slowly. Sometimes it collided with my main work, but I still finish them as I could. And I kept it that way until now.

Finally, in December I decided to update Multi Platformer Tileset one more time. I saw that its tileset structure needed some changes. So I did that, and new tiles were made with it. And the holidays and that stuff.

This 2024 was a year with chances and changes. A few plans were keep, some were postponed and opportunities were tested. But to me what matter the most was that I learned something: to go at my own pace. The money is important, but if it comes with something I will hate, I will not want it.

Now, in 2025, I will do some freelance work and content at my pace. I will talk more about it in my Patreon. In case you wanna know about it, you can reach it there. Also, I gain weight recently so I must exercise but without paying for gym. And at least be more active in my local gamedev community.

Lastly, I will try to keep this place updated too. At least to relax my mind.

Dear Jane,

I know that we just met, but I wanted to write this letter to you. When your mother told me that I’m your dad. I’m not going to lie, it freaked me out a bit. The reason it freaked me out a bit, is because I was scared, I was going to be like my dad and be the most, terrible father and well, I made a promise to myself that I’m going to be the best dad to you, promise. Sure, I own a comic bookstore and it means a lot to me, but not like you mean a lot to me. You’re more important than some comic bookstore. Businesses can be rebuilt and be replaced but, I can’t replace you and I can’t replace you.

I want you to make a promise me, alright? Don’t let anyone dim your light or they might be answering to someone. Me, and your moms, and your family. This is the order that they would be answering, your family, your moms, and me, and then my family. You’re going to be taking this world by storm when you get older and I know, deep down, you’re going to do AMAZING things and you can bet I will be right there, cheering you on. Every step of the way. I want you to remember these words, Nevertheless, She Persisted. The reason why I told you remember those words, is because if ANYONE tries to stop you, either if it’s family or someone close to you, show them your accomplishments and your voice, because you’re going to be making huge accomplishments. You’re going places Jane Evans, and I am so utterly happy to witness that little spark that you have already.

INLIMA TASK #5 →              

                              FOR MY CHILDREN, LOVE ME

Words have never been my eloquence no matter how many times people will say otherwise. I simply allow words to flow, such in a way that I allow my art to flow from my heart. And next to your dad, you both are my heart.

I’ve always dreamed of being a dad for as long as I could remember, but the realistic promises of being a good dad was never in my favor. I didn’t have an ideal father figure growing up. I was adopted when I was 3, and as you both are now old enough to know, we don’t speak of your grandparents. But I told myself every day that if I was lucky enough to be a dad, I would take every mistake I witnessed and use it to my advantage of being better. 

My promise was to always ensure that you follow your dreams, whether that be a dancer, a doctor, an artist or even a circus clown. It’s the support that I lacked, that drove me far away and into depths that I was stuck in. We’ve always been real and honest with you, your father and I want you to be aware of the world that surrounds us all. 

I’m sorry for my anxiety that may squeeze you too tight sometimes. It’s not that I’m trying to suffocate you or make you feel less of the adults that you’re growing to be. I simply just can’t seem to grasp the concept of you growing up. The fears of my own childhood linger in ways that I never anticipated them too and I think that’s why drives me to truly baby both of you and for that I apologize.

Gwendolyn, I know you’re older now and you don’t need your Papa looming over you. I know you’re at the age where you’ll fall in love. (Please just tell him, hija. I spent so many years scared of my own feelings that I almost missed out on your dad). You are such an old soul and you carry yourself with such grace and power I almost forget that you’re only eighteen. I promise to loosen my hold on you and let you explore life more. It’ll take time, but please have patience with me, that’s all I ask. 

Lorelei, you are the type of child I wish I could have been. How smart you are consistently makes me sit in awe that you are my daughter. I’ve always wondered if this is what my father would have felt if I was the idealistic son. However, I don’t have an image of an idealistic daughter. You are all that any father could want and be proud of. My only concern is that you are not allowing yourself the freedom to have. You spend such time worrying about friends and your sister, making sure they are taking care of themselves. Please, hija, please enjoy your life. Take care of you, and reach for every possibility you can. 

My intentions with you have always been the best, and may not be perfect in practice. But I am sure of one thing. Your dad and I love you both, and we want you all to achieve everything in life you could ever want. 

I will do better as your father, but most importantly I will love you for eternity. You have proven me to be a man that I’ve always wanted to be.

INLIMA TASK #5 →               A LETTER TO MY GIRLS

Melody and Morgan,

To say that you snuck into my life is an understatement. When I found out I was pregnant with you, I was terrified. Could I really measure up to be the mother that my mom was growing up? Measure up to the mother that Carole became for my siblings and I? It was a rollercoaster of emotions I wasn’t even sure how to handle. But ultimately I knew it would be okay. Your grandparents were supportive, and I had the unconditional love of your dad to carry me through.

Morgan, my beautiful sweet girl. You are so special. I always knew you were special. Learning who you are growing up? It’s the most terrifying thing in the world. But if anyone could overcome the obstacles of that, I know it’s you. I’m going to be proud of you no matter what, because you are my daughter and I love you with every fiber of my being. Your team will always have your goofy dad, Melody and me. You are so smart, talented and funny. But you’re strong-willed and stubborn like me. Your time will come, and I’m so ready to see you shine when it does.

And Melody, you are such a sweet and gentle soul. You embrace all of your best qualities and hold them with such high regard it’s hard to not be in awe of you. I envy the way you carry yourself at your age because i wish I was able to do that same. The way you trust me and your father is something that I always wanted due to the way I trusted your grandpa. Ethan reminds me of your father. Silly, gentle and full of love for you. Like you’re the only girl in the world for him. Hold on to that, just like I held on to your dad. When the world gets dark, he’ll make the days the brightest. Your goals are so achievable, please never give up on them wherever they may take you. Please don’t let us hold you back.

My life has changed for the better since I found out you were coming into this world. And watching you grow and prosper in to the beautiful young ladies you are is all I could ever want. You make me so proud to be your mom.

INLIMA TASK #4 → A LETTER TO YOUR SIXTEEN YEAR OLD SELF

Dear Keira,

Oh, sweet girl.

I'm not going to ask how everything is going because I'm you, so I already know how it is. I know what you're thinking and how you're most likely freaking out right now because you're reading a letter from yourself, from THE FUTURE. Don't freak out, just breathe, I promise by the end of this letter you'll be completely comfortable with the idea of time traveling mail. 

Put down the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse and swap it for a different, more natural looking foundation. Please. It's not your shade at all, babe.

And stop crying over your braces. You’ll only have to grin (or maybe not) and bear it for more six months.

Never stop dreaming big. You have an imagination and vision that some may not get and may even try to diminish. Don’t let that happen. It’s that big, beautiful and imaginative brain that’s going to lead you to some amazing adventures. You have a gift that may make life a little challenging and completely unconventional, but that's what makes you, you. Don't let the naysayers and the doubters make you doubt yourself. Don't try to fit who you are in a box; you are never going to fit. That box was never meant for you and that's ok because you are meant to build your own stage. So keep dreaming and living in the clouds.

Now, let's talk about him. Stevie Evans.

Remember when you left Stacey’s house and half-joked to your best friend in the car, “Imagine if I dated your brother?” Well, you won’t believe it, but it’s true. You do end up dating your best friend's brother.

The way he looks at you, it’s like you’re the star in every teenage romantic comedy. He sees you. I mean really sees you. He loves every part of you, especially your heart. He will love you through the good times and the bad and will make you see all the beauty that you possess.

You want to be better because of him. He is a good, good guy. This goes on for four years, however, it isn’t quite the fairy tale ending you expected to happen.

First things first, you’re going to make it through — through this, through everything.

It happens, the two lines appeared on the stick of horror and life got really, real, really fast. Motherhood came to you a lot earlier than you ever thought it would. However, the first time you see her - your Emily, it's like everything stopped.  She's small and so beautiful. As if she's the closest thing you will ever come to magic.

I won’t sugarcoat this life, it’s hard. From 3am feedings and diaper changes to the fighting and harsh words said back and forth that you ultimately can't take it anymore. So, you do what you think is best. You leave.

You and her won't see him for another six years.

I see your sadness and the way you question your worth and there are so many things I wish you knew. There will be days that you cry for a break or just to take a nap. There will be days that your anxiety may get the best of you. I know it is hard to hear, but he wasn't the right person for you. I know you think you’ve lost the love of your life and you will never find someone as good again. But, this just wasn’t the right person or the right time for you.

No matter how tough it gets, please understand that there will be better days and it will get easier. You will learn things about yourself, you will see how strong you can be, and you will now know the definition of true love. Just remember, EVERYONE makes mistakes. It’s what you make of those mistakes that determines your destiny.

You’ll feel angry and sad. You’ll wish it wasn’t a four year long lesson, but who knows who you’d be without it. 

A person’s treatment of you is not a reflection of your worth. This person was not in a position to reciprocate love in the way you selflessly loved and deserved to be loved. That alone doesn’t make him a bad person. You just weren’t meant to be together.

You will grasp forgiveness someday. Forgive him. Forgive yourself. Don’t stress your confusion because when the dust settles you’ll see clearly. You’ll understand that the relationship served its purpose.

You’re resilient, graceful and stronger than you know. Let yourself feel the wind between your fingers as you roll the window down and dance through the breeze. Love every moment that you’re alive. Embrace the present because even if it brings you tears now, it will also bring you memories you’ll cherish years later.

Whoever said having a baby means your life is over is an idiot. Things will be a lot harder for you, but not impossible. You still finish school, earn your degree, and pursue your dreams in New York with a baby in hand.

I see you growing up to do great things. Better yet, I see you never standing alone. I see you surrounded by friends who will remain alongside you every step of the way. They’ll pick you up and cheer you on. (In fact, years down the line, they will still be your best friends, and they’re still standing in your corner today.)

Your daughter is super smart, kind, and funny. She’s also stubborn like her father and you’re going to swear her teenage years will be the death of you (fyi: the jury is still out on that one) but she’s a great kid and she has a bright future ahead of her.

I guess that's all I have to say because you have to experience somethings on your own. You're going to feel scared, unprepared, excited, and liberated all at the same time. If it was up to me you would never hurt a day in your life but I know you need those moments because without them I wouldn't exist. Just remember I'm here for you. I don't know everything and I can't protect you from all of the craziness in the world, but I'll be by your side every step of the way. You got this. I'm proud of you.

No matter how terrible things seem, it’s not the end of everything. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.

So just feel it all, 16-year-old self. You’re going to be OK.

I need you to know, from your future self, that it is all worth it. Who you are and who you are becoming is worth it. I can’t wait for you to experience it. So keep walking, one step at a time.

Debido a que el 2016 fue un año “duro” para la industria retail mundial, según Paredes, “esperamos que sea muy productivo y le apostamos mucho al 2017”. Evento exclusivo y con sorpresas Los retrasos en la construcción hicieron que se posponga la inauguración de la tienda en el Jockey Plaza hasta este mes. “Estamos terminando de afinar detalles en el diseño exclusivo y esperamos para a mediados de enero abrir la tienda. For the one who’s probably wearing a fabulous outfit and have a lightsaber in your hands and wearing too big shoes for your little feet...

I know at your current age, you’re super confused on who I am, but that’s okay, I promise. Anyway, right about now, you’re probably either running around or taking a nap since it’s two in the afternoon there. You have Tangled on in the background, with the stuffed Teddy, I got you this past summer in your arms. Man, I thought this would easier but here I am. Trying so hard not to cry at the high school that I’m working at. God, thankfully your uncle isn’t anywhere near me, or I think they would have a panic attack and, just maybe, tackle me again if they saw me crying. Which, this time, will hurt more than usual, since I don’t have any nice padding on the floor. Anyway, I hope one day you will understand why I chose this for you and please, please bear with me.

I’ll understand if you’re ever confused on why I did what I did, but I will try and clear up any confusion you might have when you’re older, but for now. Continue pretending to a Mars president, who will only use lightsabers as weapons if needed, but for now, will be using a bunch of rainbows.

I hope I’ll see you soon, butterfly, once we can put the bad behind us.

INLIMA TASK #4 →                 A LETTER TO YOUR SIXTEEN YEAR OLD SELF

Dear Steve-o,

Uh, what’s up? It’s me, you know. It’s a weird thing thinkin’ about writing a letter to myself from ten years ago. That’s fuckin’ wild honestly. But I think you should really know what’s comin’. It’s not pretty, and it’s not going to be fun, but you’re going to grow and you’re gonna be okay.

To start, you know Keira right? Stacey’s best friend? You’re gonna start dating her. It’s awesome, and you’re super happy. You’ve always been into Keira, and you’re happy that Stacey did her magic in settin’ you both up. Of course, it was mostly so she could date Aaron, but that’s ‘sides the point. You’re gonna date Keira for a long time - four years to be exact. You’ll think she’s your destiny and that you’re gonna marry her. She’s your first everything. Unfortunately you’re not. Things happen that kinda put a brink on the relationship. 

Now onto the bad things, dad is gonna lose his job. It’s really goin’ to suck. They’re going to come to your house and forcibly remove you and your family and you’ll be stuck in a motel. You’ll get help of course. Aaron’s dad and step-mom are lifesavers. They help get you food, clothes and make sure that we’re okay. Jason and Aaron save your life every single day - you try to make it as known as possible that they do, but you would be literally hopeless without them. 

Because of dad losin’ his job, you get a job yourself. You work as a waiter at Breadstix until you’re eighteen. Then you stumble across a guy at Breadstix who leaves his number. He’s older, but you give him a text. He takes you out and gives you money. And then you keep seein’ him. The sex is cool, the money is cooler and you’re able to help your parents even more and finally your dad gets a job, but you keep doin’ what you’re doin’ because the money is nice.

Unfortunately this makes you question your sexuality and maybe you really like guys. And there’s a moment when you look at Aaron and think his smile is electric. And you’re almost positive that you had a crush on Jason once upon a time as well - but between his parents and your parents you’re too scared to say anythin’. Plus, you’re still dating Keira and you love her so much, and she’s your whole world despite the fact you cheat almost every other night. You’re runnin’ out of excuses - band practice can only carry so much.

And then she gets pregnant, and everything slams down on you. All you’ve ever wanted was to be a dad, but not like this. Not when you can’t even keep your family afloat, you can’t keep your daughter afloat. But the minute she’s born you love her. That love isn’t enough to stop the fights and the harsh words. And before you know it, you’re slammin’ the door in Keira’s face and you won’t see her again for six years. It’s weird and awkward, but you’re tryin’ to make it work. 

Emily looks just like you. She’s beautiful, funny and all you want at this moment in time is to be around her. 

I hate to say it, but you and Keira don’t work out. That’s okay though, you know? But you do fall in love again - maybe even more than the first one. You’re dating Aaron, and I know it’s somethin’ that may have crossed your mind every once or twice, but it happens and he’s living with you now. You’re the happiest you ever been.

My only advice? Try to not drink so much - it really fucks you up. Your anger gets really bad because of it. But you’re doin’ great now. You’ve got great things coming. Things are looking up.

I’m so proud of you. You fuckin’ made it.
