There's this phenomenon on social media, especially TikTok, where someone will post a cute video of their pet doing something totally harmless, and someone will invariably chime in the comments with some piece of unsolicited advice which may or may not even be relevant, and it bugs me a lot! Offering someone unsolicited pet-care advice (or child-rearing advice, for that matter) is actually really rude, especially if you're not a vet and you're doing it in that way that seems calculated to show off that you know more than them rather than being genuinely helpful. Like, the latest version I saw of this was somebody's cat chasing a laser pointer quite happily, and someone in the comments saying "make sure you play with them using other toys, too! It's better enrichment!" Like, boss, you saw one video of somebody playing with their cat and couldn't help but extrapolate from that that they might be doing something wrong in general, and therefore that you just had to correct them? Go jump in a lake.

This is one of those things that I think we would instinctually recognize as kind of deranged if you did it face-to-face--if you were playing with your dog in the park and someone came up to you and was like, "actually, you shouldn't be doing that, you should be doing this instead," you would be well within your rights to tell them to fuck off, no matter how much they tried to defensively frame their intrusion as "just trying to help." But the faux familiarity of social media and the anonymity of random commenters reduces the social friction there, and the urge of the know-it-all to show that they indeed do know it all is unleashed.

But here's your modern etiquette tip for the day: knock that shit off! It's really fucking rude!

watching the sdcc panel and i am just very :) about how sweet their answers to “what are some of the micro moments from the game that have stuck with you the most over the years?” are. taliesin saying what the fuck is up with that which was the first like The Party Gets To Know Each Other moments of c3. travis saying asking his wife if he could kiss her in campaign. marisha going way back to the cannonball competition in campaign one. ashley choosing the beauyasha date but also just the silly goat noise matt made. liam adding onto that to compliment matt roleplaying grass so well and then saying his favourite moment was writing a story for laura and reading it to her as caleb for jester. and then matt saying that was his answer, and that his favourite moments of the game are when they find ways to give gifts to each other whether tangible or not. and sam saying his favourite moments have less to do with the story and is more so when he can just. see his friends across the table from him. when marisha perches and when laura and ashley are (badly) drawing dicks and liam saying he loves when sam sneezes and ashley tells him to stop it and just. yeah. they Are an extremely popular online powerhouse, but i’m so happy that they’re also friends building a world together out of gifts to and love for one another.

like i Am so enamoured with the characters and the world of exandria but the moments when you can feel the love that those people have for each other reach out from behind the stained glass of their performances (to steal a metaphor from brennan lee mulligan) are so extremely special and i am endlessly grateful that they decided to share their silly little home game with the world.

i’ve gotten a lot of asks enquiring about MC’s father and mother (i’m using anya as her name so i don’t repeat using “MC’s mom” over and over again) so imma try to answer them all here:

HOW DID THEY MEET?

they met during freshmen year at yale. anya’s roommate was going to her morning class when she accidentally splashed her cold coffee all over elias. he was already in a bad mood so he started scolding her quite harshly to the point she was in tears and ran back to her dorm.

she told anya what happened and the latter had the former pointing out who the ‘douchebag’ was. they found him laughing with some of his friends underneath a tree near old campus and anya wordlessly smacked the shit out of him in front of everyone.

elias was flabbergasted when she started to go off on him afterwards for being an asshole to her friend and ruining her self-confidence on her first day of college. he fell in love with her right there and then.

WHO ASKED OUT WHO?

elias asked her out in their second semester of their freshman year, although anya refused at first. it’s not like she didn’t reciprocate his feelings, she just had a hard time accepting them because of the brittle relationship she witnessed between her parents.

he had just accepted that they’d only ever be friends when anya finally was happy with the possibility of being loved and loving someone like that, so she put on her big girl pants and asked elias out. the rest is history.

WHERE AND WHEN DID THEY GET MARRIED? WHO WAS IN ATTENDANCE?

they got married at the white sands beach in old lyme, connecticut. this was done quickly around the end of their junior year because that’s when they found out anya was pregnant with MC.

i can’t specify who exactly was in attendance but there was ‘jane’, their friends (both from their classes and house of styx), and two professors. elias’s mother didn’t even know he got married until he brought anya and MC with him to amsterdam after she gave birth.

WHAT LANGUAGE DO/DID THEY SPEAK?

elias speaks english, dutch + his father’s native language (based on his last name).

anya speaks english, bits of dutch, greek (ancient + modern), arabic, latin, sumerian, sanskrit, runes, and whatever language you’d set for her based on her last name/ethnicity.

DOES OUR MOTHER HAVE A SET NAME OR DO WE GET TO CHOOSE?

you can choose the name given to MC’s mother. i just used anya because it was the first name that popped up when i used a generator.
