Authors who post like this are so deliciously unhinged. At this point it’s not even a fic- it’s a literary hostage situation, and i am ✨sat✨ ☕️

THE GOLDFINCH (2019)
More than anything I was relieved that in my unfamiliar babbling-and-wanting-to-talk state I'd stopped myself from blurting the thing I'd never said, even though it was something we both knew well enough without me saying out loud to him in the street - which was, of course, I love you.

Send in The Clowns
Ship: Jack Griffin x Gabriel Rose
Word Count: 943
Summary: A rewrite of how Griffin and Gabriel met as I decided on a better background for Gabriel. Griffin and Kemp have been on the run after a narrow escape from an angry mob, currently finding refuge at an inn in a small German town. There also happens to be a carnival/circus visiting, intriguing and briefly distracting Griffin with new fools to mess with. However, the mad doctor is struck by the odd beauty of one of the clowns and finds himself head over heels in a matter of seconds. This could've been longer but I needed to stop myself SGSHBSH CWs for implied murder, nudity but the character is invisible, and food mentions.

Griffin and Kemp had been travelling Europe for a few months, now. After a narrow escape from an angry mob, Griffin was well in need of a new “headquarters,” a new lab, somewhere he could rest his head after enacting his evil deeds. The two found themselves in a small village on the outskirts of Germany, taking refuge at an inn where Kemp was not recognised as Griffin’s unwilling accomplice.
“We need to build something off the grid, with our own hands. I’ll be interrupted for the last time!” Griffin ranted, slamming his fist against the room’s dresser.
“Building isn’t exactly a quiet task, Jack…” Kemp responded uneasily, finding his way to a single armchair. “And I don’t think we have much skill in carpentry, the two of us…”
Griffin scoffed. “Perhaps you don’t, but I’m certain I could build a new lab in less than a month.”
“By yourself?”
Kemp was sure his unseen brow was knitted in grave frustration. A small breeze told him Griffin was waving his hand dismissively. “We’ll gather some labourers. If they won’t comply, I’ll have to make an example out of them.” Kemp watched Griffin’s trousers and crisp button-down shirt, sleeves rolled up to the elbows, wander toward the slightly ajar window, suddenly distracted. “What on Earth is that?”
Kemp rose from his seat to join him, looking out into the night. In the distance, colourful light could be seen and faint organ music drifted in the air. “Must be some kind of carnival.” There was a pause between them before Griffin began to unbutton his shirt. Kemp took a step back. “Turning in already, Jack?”
“Not in the slightest.” He folded the shirt and tossed it onto the chair, then began removing his pants. “I’m going to enjoy myself. I’ll be back before sunrise, don’t you worry your pretty little head. Ta-ra!”
Before Kemp could protest, Griffin had opened the window wide and begun to climb down from the inn’s second floor. Naked as the day he was born but entirely unseen by the public, Griffin made his way down the road to the supposed carnival, feeling quite light as a large, striped tent appeared beyond the treeline. He couldn’t have been older than eleven the last time he had enjoyed such whimsical frivolities. A few games a food stalls had set up outside of the tent, but no one was around to partake in them.
Griffin hummed to himself as he picked up a ball at a milk bottle toss stand and gave it a good huck, knocking down the pyramid of bottles with ease. He chuckled to himself and turned to the food, grabbing a candied apple and a bag of popcorn before sneaking into the tent. Standing in the shadow of the bleachers, Griffin enjoyed the performances at the centre of the ring, far more entertained by thoughts of the actors having unfortunate accidents than the acts themselves.
When it came time for clowns, Griffin supposed he was done with the show, dumping his trash into the bag of a nearby onlooker. Before he could turn away, he found himself frozen in place. Even under heavy make-up, baggy clothes, and a blinding spotlight, one of these clowns was not like the others. While performing buffoonish stunts, they carried themselves far differently from their costars. They looked as if they did not belong to the circus at all.
Griffin dashed behind the bleachers until he found himself at the opposite side of the tent, where a flap led into the backstage area. He watched for a moment longer, then slipped his way to the other side, keen to find some kind of costume he could borrow for a chance to speak with the stranger.
Applauds crashed within the tent as the final act came to a close and the ringmaster said goodbye to his adoring audience. Griffin watched from the shadows for the clown, gaze following their every move until they separated themself from the other performers. Then, Griffin followed them. He was dressed in an ill-fitting suit, his head obscured by a plastic mask depicting a tiger and an unnecessarily uncomfortable wig.
“You there!” He called as the clown stood on the step of a caravan. They looked around for the source of the muffled voice before noticing Griffin and his odd appearance.
They squinted. “Ballard, is that you? You better not be fucking with me again.”
“I am not Ballard. What is your name?” Griffin kept his distance, having enough sense to know he could easily lose his chance by frightening them.
“Gabriel Rose. Who are you?”
“That is not important. Your performance was… breathtaking.”
They smiled crookedly, scrunching up their nose. “Er, thanks.”
“Do you not usually get compliments on your work?”
“No, I do, but… nothing like that. Listen, what do you want? I’d really like to get this paint off my face, if you don’t mind…”
“Who is Ballard?”
Gabriel sighed, folding their arms and leaning against the door of the caravan. “The illusionist. Thinks it’s funny to go around scaring me and some of the other performers.” They placed their hand on the handle and began to step back into the caravan.
Griffin took a step forward. “Will you be around much longer?”
“The games are open for one more day, we leave tomorrow evening. Is that all?”
Griffin nodded and began to silently back away. Gabriel watched him for a moment before disappearing inside the caravan and closing the door. Once out of sight, Griffin discarded his disguise and began to look for the illusionist.
Ballard’s death was the talk of the town the next morning.

Great Horned Owl || Bubo virginianus
Observed in United States
Contrary to what a few popular media posts may claim, owls don't make friends with other animals, or even others of their same species, only willingly mingling as mated pairs. Birds love to harass owls and other raptors to make them move out of the territory, but corvids will also do it for fun.
