this is going to sound so ubnoxious, but i saw a lifesteal confession and immediately realised that im probably guilty of the exact thing it was talking about (people mostly caring about branzy when it comes to lifesteal and clownzy). but after a minute of thinking (🤔<- like this) i could kiiiinda pinpoint why and i thought it'd be interesting enough to vocalise, at least.

in my head, there's a very clear line between "the guy whose vidoes i watch while eating lunch" and "the guy i make fanworks of." even though its technically the same guy. i love watching branzy's videos. he's extremely entertaining and talented. but i also have a separate version of him that's based on the character he plays. the guy who in many cases has a story that ends up being very tied to clowns. being the most important person to the deadliest guy is a compelling character and i find that very fun to explore in writing. admittedly the bit they've got going on where they flirt unprompted is still kinda peak and that is definitely something i'd want to see more of.  very chill about it though. *wink*

however, and this is where i wholeheartedly agree with everything in the confession. i really dislike it when the comment section on branzy's videos mention clown in a video clown's barely in. cc!branzy could spend five hundred hours working on a minecraft project and if clownpierce happens to be eluded to, then that's what a lot of the comments will be about. now i LOVE clownzy crumbs because i'm a pathetic individual, but there are so many other things to talk about in branzy's non-lifesteal content than the gay bit he did two years ago. 

anyway here are some elements of branzy's character that i really appriciate bout him

he is like a jack of all trades. sure he's not the very very best in any field, but he's a great builder, great redstoner, great at survival things, great at the game in general. i think his strongest trait is just how dedicated he is to whatever he decides to do. he loves a challenge, he loves overkill and theatrics, he needs mental stimulation and work or else he dies.

in after hours smp he commited so many crimes... so many. one thing i loved is that for that video he had to research these crimes and come up with a minecraft equivalent. he's extremely creative and his brain works in weird, sort of morbid and somehow also cutesy ways.

or in the video where he's building a computer in minecraft with rek. one moment he doesn't get what's happening and he asks rek to "explain it to me like im a puppy" or something. and it's such a silly little moment but i like that he just found no shame in asking. in general he's just very down to earth and shameless.

he is not in any way morally upstanding. if he saw a big read button that said "press this to kill one hundred random children" he'd not hesitate. if the button was protected with top security measures he'd do whatever it takes to get past them. he does not care about good and bad. please never give him morals.

his love language is killing his friends for fun

okay here's a personal preference but he needs to have some wacky job. if you're writing this man he needs to be money laundering. or running a pyramid scheme. why would anyone put him in a school, or a cafe. he's a palm reader who sucks but takes money before readings and runs away. he's running a sweatshop and all the worker uniforms are weird costumes. he's a janitor but he uses special access to steal things. he has one hundred different identities. why am i describing stanley pines.

i couldn't decide so i went into the dc tag to see what horrors may lurk within and then had to go do something else for an hour to recover. anyway i think maybe... there's this tendency in fanon to make all of the bats nice. nice to each other, nice to their teammates, nice to strangers. and they're not nice people. i don't mean that they're (all) bad people or needlessly cruel and unkind. i mean they're not nice people. they're rude and they're assholes and they hurt each other and they hurt their friends and they insult people. to make #batfam content work they need to be sweet and pleasant to one another and not hate each other and frankly that's not how it is. wayne family adventures only works because they're nice to each other! the real, canon batfamily (as in wayne family not necessarily the entire group of allies) is a bunch of people who are technically family but it's held together by spite and pipecleaners. in actual canon, dick and bruce fight all the time, and bruce says hurtful things, and jason is a mass murderer before he's ever even like, despised coworkers with any of his siblings. tim is not a sweetie who rolls over and shows his belly when bruce gives orders. dick is not a doting big brother "mama bird". babs loves bruce but she very much does not give a shit what he thinks, and he is NOT her father. they are not a nice, perfectly-balanced nuclear family. they are a bunch of horrible people with mental issues. what the fuck is a little wing i'm going to kill you

Gods. I love this man. The number of times I’ve committed to a bit just like this is crazy. I will so often start a bit with a friend, and then we just drive every other friend up the fucking walls with it.

me and one of my friends bought a build-a-bear frog together because neither of us could afford it on our own, and this led to us being married with a child for the next 4 years straight. Yes, YES, this is it. This is the Shadowvanilla (tm) content I was looking for!

While I do enjoy the classic toxic yaoi/enemies to lover portrayals we commonly see with them, their relationship and roles within the narrative are brimming with potential themes and symbolism just sitting there waiting to be dissect.

Like idc what anyone said the Beasts is such a good addition to the story as they held up a mirror to the Ancients and gave us a wholly different angle to re-examine their characters from. Back to PV and SM though, I feel like I can write several essays just from their small interaction in Theater of Lies alone. Their dynamic is THAT good.

Compare and contrasting designs

SM hair is made up of many curved crescent shapes, PV crown-like hat trim and orchid staff emulate the sun.

PV hat/ hair pointed up and outward, SM bangs/ three-pronged hair thing curves down and inward.

PV big robe dwarfs his body vs SM harlequin bodysuit.

Mirroring motifs (some of these can be a stretch): their heterochromia, their facial markings, they both have a single pointed eyelash design, SM have it on his upper eyelids while PV have it on his lower eyelids, their tippets, both of them have similar patterns on their clothing via PV crossing waffle pattern and SM cyan diamonds suit.

About their understanding of others and themselves:

PV and SM are both extremely alike in their relationship with knowledge. They're two highly intelligent little cookies with deep understanding of the people around them. They knows what make other cookies tick.

How they differ is in what they do with those knowledge. In PV case, he uses this knowledge to help his friends with their problems and as a tool to stop his foes without spilling jam whenever he can. SM uses this knowledge for his own gains, either for mocking cookies or poking into their weaknesses whenever he can't brute force them into acting according to his whims.

Despite technically interacting for the first time in Theater of Lies, they already knew each other like the back of their hands. By virtue of sharing one half of a Soul Jam and having to watch over PV for such a long time, SM knows him inside out, even knowing the secrets PV would never tells anyone. Note that PV does reciprocates this on some level by immediately figuring out SM thought process and answering all of his question correctly during their deadly little quiz show.

Another possible parallel:

This is just a bonus theorizing corner. We have truth and lie, the moon and the sun, order and chaos etc... I'd like to throw my hat into the ring and come up with another parallel as well. Mainly, fans have been writing about Blueberry Yogurt cookie, about corrupted!Pure Vanilla. The game have been hinting about pre-corruption!Beasts and the many ways the Ancients would've been corrupted as well. Yes, these two are mirror images, opposite yet so alike, they're each other's past and future.

PV may represents SM old, long-forgotten hopeful self, the beholder of the Light of Knowledge, the one who used to hold faith in cookiekind. In turn, SM represents a possible future for PV, one where he let the Soul jam power get to his head, one where he turned away from the light. SM is a warning, a herald for what's to come.

Eternally clashing ideas:

Maybe it's because Shadowvanilla is a relatively new and rare ship, or maybe I'm just that good at staying in my delulu shipping bubble, as I personally haven't seen much hate nor discussion about Shadowvanilla. But I find the thought of fans diminishing a ships because "it's toxic" frankly quite silly. Baffling! Befuddling even!

Conflict create intrigue. Oh, SM should stay away from PV? He's been traumatized enough? Poor weak little healer, can't fight back at all, can he? No. I want them to interact. I want their ideals to clash. I want Pure Vanilla to kicks Shadow Milk's ass while being true to himself and his kindness and reminds us why he's an Ancient Hero in the first place.

I like Shadowvanilla because by nature they are meant to clash. They share a unique bond that's hard to describe in simple relationship terms, they amplify each other's attribute amazingly, making me appreciate their in-game characterization even more. I simply can't wait to see where they go from here.

(Also psst Devsis, Devsis please take all the time you want, just don't screw up Spire of Deceit and Truth. Pure Vanilla fumbled HARD in odyssey, then spends the majority of Theater of Lies being jerked around both physically and metaphorically by Shadow Milk. Pls pls pls give old man Vanilly his well-deserved cool moment I beg of you-)

Do you ever think of Shadow Milk and Pure Vanilla symbolism as a duo?

Yes, they're complete opposites but if you think about it, the opposites are not quite obvious. For example, Pure Vanilla represents Truth while Shadow Milk - Deceit. But as we know, Pure Vanilla lies quite often, even if it's not a big deal, and Shadow Milk always telling truth, just hide it among the lines. And the best of it, that they both know about that. Shadow Milk calls Pure Vanilla "the biggest liar" and Pure Vanilla admitting that not every Shadow Milk's line is a lie.

The second symbolism is a "Sun and Moon" symbolism.

Pure Vanilla represents light, life and designed in warm, yellow colours. On other hand, Shadow Milk represents darkness, havoc and moon. I believe that Shadow Milk is strongly tied to the Dark Side of the Moon magic and Blueberry Yogurt Academy.

But if you look at it in a different angle, you can see that Shadow Milk was the original holder of the souljam, but than, witches "purified" it and now Pure Vanilla holding only part of original power. Originally Shadow Milk's power. Just like the moon shines only because it reflects sun's light, the power that Pure Vanilla wields now, is nothing but a reflection of the original souljam.

Not to mention little things like their colour palettes that perfectly reversed or the King-Jester dynamic. They're so interesting in terms of symbolism and I'm really sick of people that put their pairing in frames of manipulations and unhealthy relationships. Yeah, it's probably realistic, but i don't think we can frame their entities and possible relationships in our frames and definitions of love. I don't want to be a Joy-killer, i really love and appreciate all the work that this fandom does, but i also really want people to see how much potential this two have.

i feel like. I can kind of understand where this person is coming from like yes he does have flaws and make mistakes and I acknowledge this but there's a difference between saying a character doesn't have flaws and defending them from fans who demonize/heavily mischaracterize them.

in fords case, there are so many people shitting on him for things that are false or misinterpretations of things he’s said and done. a good chunk of the fandom has an irrational hatred for him.

as well as this the fandom also waters down his trauma to make it seem like nothing compared to Stan's as well as making countless jokes about his trauma. for example, the thousands of jokes made about bills abuse of ford. I cannot count the times I've seen people look at this abuse and their only takeaway/only thing they have to say about this is 'haha he fucked the triangle.' as someone who's been in an abusive relationship in the past it is extremely tiring to see these jokes constantly thrown around about bill and fords relationship. either people are ignorant and cannot see that their relationship is textbook abuse or they do know but just don't care(what is wrong with you) and I genuinely don't know what's worse.

as well as this, there is a tremendous amount of victim blaming being made towards ford when discussing ford and bills relationship. I've seen so many people straight up say it's ford's own fault for getting abused by bill and it was because of his 'hubris' and 'huge ego' and his 'selfishness', which is no thing to ever say about a victim of abuse. ive also seen people call ford 'stupid' for getting manipulated by bill, which is a) wrong, because bill has successfully manipulated and abused many others before for(have you read tbob), and has manipulated other members of the pines family shown in the show, and b) just victim blaming. I don't even know what else to say about this but many of you cannot be normal about abuse victims in media.

regarding his growing distance with fiddleford during portal construction era, this is caused by bill isolating ford from him, one of the only humans he's in contact with which is a technique often used by abusers. many people claim this is because ford 'views fiddleford as lesser', or 'has little respect towards him', which is straight up wrong. ford states in the journal that he is a great friend and a brilliant scientist and engineer, and his appreciation of him is shown through his excitement of his arrival and immediately gets to making him feel welcome in his home and gifts him with microchips and banjo strings. in fact, when they first met in college, ford was the only one who genuinely believed his theory and he immediately jumped to helping him prove it for 9 hours, despite barely knowing the man. their bond, whether romantic or platonic is strong and that's why bill's isolating ford from fiddleford is so vital to bills abuse of ford.

not only that but these people are obsessing over Stan's homelessness for ten years but don't dare acknowledge that ford has been homeless for thirty. they fail to acknowledge that both Stan and ford were being abused by filbrick even if it showed in different ways. ford wasn't favored by his mother(his mother favored stan) and his father didn't see him as anything but a way to make money for his family, providing him only conditional love and not seeing him as his own person aside from his intelligence and his hands. this is often something many immigrant children experience, having endless pressure to succeed and get top notch grades and choose a high salary career in order to raise their family out of poverty. and if they were to slip up, they would often get severely punished or even physically hurt as a result. so logically, ford being upset by this is very understandable, not to mention he was also a teenager when this happened.

i have more examples I could use, but tldr, defending ford from fandom mischaracterization, victim blaming, and from claims being made about him that are blatantly false is not equal to saying he lacks flaws or hasn't made mistakes.

The original idea of Tox came from wanting to have someone that could challenge Leo and give him more depth beyond just being an asshole. Tox was meant to be the Alastor to Leo's Vox (because some of this fun stemmed from someone mentioning HH in addition to the sugar daddy brent comment xD).

In my experience, I find it really hard to write a story with only 4 main characters and no minor or side characters. I love the guys, but in order to really feel like a world is lived in, other people have to mingle, and sometimes said people need to be more than just literal background (*aggressively gestures to Cherie like the queen she is*).

Tox seemed like a good way to toss lore in without it seeming too out there since his design was technically based on their mascot (and I wrote Nick to work under him since I believe Nick was the one that started Party Crashers, so it was like a neat reference n.n). He didn't need to be anything flawlessly created or well-written; he just needed to have potential, a use, and a reason to be relevant.

Needed an opposing force of power to match Leo? Tox. Needed a person in a position of power to forward the plot in some way? Tox. Needed a morally gray character to throw a wrench in something? Tox. (These are all just examples of potential. None of them have to be true or canon. Tox just needs to fulfill a purpose that the characters that already exist cannot. HAHAHA OKAY… JASPER IS LITERALLY THE MOST COMPLICATED AND CONFUSING OC I HAVE IN TERMS OF LORE

also he uses any pronouns (All of them. every pronoun you can think of. he’s just silly like that) but i’ll mainly be using he/him for him here so it’s less confusing

like this is the info about him in my google doc (it’s a fucking mess). i’m not sure if it makes sense BUT THAT’S NOT EVEN ALL OF IT

basically the reason there’s a Jasper category is because there’s multiple times throughout the story where he pretends to be a completely different person (but still the same guy), and i kinda view them as different characters because they have different relationships and stuff, but still lead back to the one true Jasper in the end.

i have no idea if this is making any sense,, like Jasper is the One oc i literally avoid talking about to people because i HAD TO MAKE HIS LORE SOOO DAMN CONFUSING but it’s fine!! he’s just extra silly i guess

so basically, when Jasper’s not in his true form, he’s literally an entity that could have taken Any shape Anywhere throughout time and space, and there’s literally no way to know WHO Jasper could be during that time, because he’s a pathological lier (haha black friday reference) and a good actor. so any random person the characters meet COULD possibly be Jasper, and there’d be no way to tell, EXCEPT for a few things: red eyes (signifying the deal with Magnus and that he’s a Lurker (because of more lore stuff i don’t have time to explain here)), a blank book, and like? that’s it? the tendency to be a manipulative prick?

so yeah, on that chart there are 3 other characters connected to Jasper with the grey color (kinda hard to see because it’s so chaotic and the grey kinda blends into the dark green). Blue technically counts, because like,, they’re technically still the same person? but yet they are so COMPLETELY different from each other that i associate them as different characters. Blue was literally just a normal dude but um. a lot of unfortunate things happened to him (the narrative) (also Blue is like,, idk he reminds me of Dew lol. so yeah, yk).

so Blue just basically got corrupted and turned so evil that he’s just too far gone to be considered the same guy (there’s so much more to it but whatever). Anyway, Jasper happened and there’s an infinite amount of his “lives”, but the main ones are “Jasp” and “Jaspa” (both still called “Jasper” but i shorten their names so it’s easier to talk about them).

Jasp is… oof. i don’t even wanna talk about him LMAO ITS SO…… anyway long story short, he was the og jasper i created before all this crazy lore. he was literally just a normal human who died and was the reason Eric met Bea. like when i was 13 i unironically drew super embarrassing Eric x Jasper ship art (toxic yaoi). but when i rewrote his character, Jasp became a but more manipulative but overall still a silly human. so yeah STILL, he really Did just exist purely to make Eric and Bea meet (book Magnus stuff).

Jaspa… so she’s REALLY FUCKED UP. gonna use she/her pronouns for Jaspa just because that’s what i’m used to. so basically when Calvin was trapped in the Abyss (used to be called void realm) (also that’s another long story for another day), Jaspa showed up out of nowhere (as they do), and her entire purpose there was to prevent Calvin from ever escaping. but there was one problem. Onyx. so Onyx is really fucking cool and basically saved Calvin’s life multiple times from Jaspa. and when Calvin’s friends finally came to save him, Jaspa planned to just explode everything and kill Calvin in the process, but Onyx DOES SOMETHING HE THOUGHT WAS IMPOSSIBLE! he teleports Calvin with him to the other part of the Abyss, the place only void creatures like himself are able to enter. so yea. Jaspa caused Calvin’s best friend (Milo) to think he died and it’s suuuper sad for a bit because of that. she was overall super manipulative and yeah tried to kill Calvin countless times.

the main Jasper obviously has done so much more bad stuff, including just killing people for fun and being a menace. he’s constantly fighting the main characters and getting them into danger. he’s also just insane. he just likes killing

and there’s SOOO MUCH MORE about him, like his whole relationship with Louie. i can’t even begin to explain this because it’s overly complicated and confusing time travel stuff but they have LONG history and are the ones to kill each other in the end (not at the same time).

so yeah i could talk about Jasper for HOURSSS, especially the stuff with Bea and Bailey (since they were Blue’s sisters and Jasper still has some of Blue’s memories). also the stuff with Eric. like he had trust issues for a LONG time because of finding out about the Jasp stuff. his bf wasn’t Actally in love with him and lied about EVERYTHING, KILLED PEOPLE, killed himself just Because (so Eric would meet Bea), without caring about the emotional toll this would take on Eric. and another thing, Eric had such a hard time trusting Zephyr at first too, because of his red eyes (vampire), Eric thought he was just another Jasper trying to trick and manipulate him. it’s fucked. (Zephyr isn’t Jasper!! thank god!)

anyway this got so long oops. like i said, there’s so much more to this character but this is the main stuff. he’s made so many enemies because he exists in multiple places at once throughout time and space so yeah. also like, he’s literally The Vessel Of The Void. no i will not elaborate (the most insane fucked up twist u could think of).
