So, I would not consider myself a fan of Tik Tok. I don't like influencer culture, for one -- I have seen too many videos about the effect influencer culture has on kids, and -- in many cases -- their parents' wallets. I've seen Christmas List videos where 12-year-old girls ask for multiple, incredibly expensive beauty and skin-care products that they DON'T FUCKING NEED because they're KIDS! The damage it could do to their skin in the long run doesn't matter, because their favorite influencer uses it, and therefore they need it, too. Also, as someone who works at a popular Mex-American Subway-style restaurant franchise that Tik Tok-ers LOVE to either make "hack" videos about, or video-tape and post videos of them shaming tired employees in attempts to get free food, even when those employees specifically state that they did not consent to being video-taped.

But. BUT. You know who else uses Tik Tok? Palestinians, trying to spread the truth about what they're going through. Single parents who happened to gain enough of a following that they are -- WERE -- able to support themselves and their families with the income they get from posting. What happens to those families, when their main source of income gets taken away? Will the government help them find a new job? Almost certainly not.

Also. ALSO! The whole "banned for thee, but not for me" thing. If Tik Tok was banned for national security threats, why the FUCK did Biden decide it was still okay for him and his people to continue using it for political purposes? Because a political candidate or office holder is going to be a FAR shinier target for espionage than the woman doing mukbang videos while talking about true crime (which I also have opinions on, but that's not important right now).

It's just... not a good decision. And if Trump, who is currently talking about undoing the ban, ends up succeeding? His popularity will only go up. This is one of the worst choices the DMC has made (still nowhere near as bad as the choice to give 8-fucking-billion dollars to the IDF on the way out of office, though), and I just honestly do not believe that the ban will do what they want it to do. Remember Vine? Remember how, when it was shut down, everyone who made content on the app moved over to TikTok? There are ALREADY apps available for people to move to, and many already are making that switch. And those apps? Also owned by Chinese companies, but due to being lesser known, they are also lesser protected. Is Biden gonna try and ban those, too?

So. The TLDR is basically: as much as I dislike Tik Tok, this ban was a horrible decision and will likely not do anything to stop the things the government is saying they banned it to stop.

Okay imagine. Young Ethan Hunt (pre M:I1) gets a little too much to drink celebrating a mission, does this dance. Yes, with the shirt and the no pants and everything. Just for the hell of it. He's with his team, he trusts them, why the hell not?

Someone video tapes it. Probably Jack but idk. Maybe Ethan knows, maybe he doesn't. Probably funnier if he doesn't. Jack saves it to some file somewhere and it's forgotten about with everything that happens in Prague.

Fast forward twenty years, and Benji is digging through files looking for something unrelated. And he stumbles across the video. And he watches it, because of course he does.

And Ethan comes into the room looking for one thing or another, and he sees the video, and he's like, "Oh my god, someone recorded that!?"

Ethan notes Benji's interest in the video and later recreates it in person. It's a good thing they have thick walls that night.

coachella 2025 day 3 weekend 1 thoughts:

day threeeeee.

it’s gonna be another packed one just like friday into saturday morning, but i’m ready for it.

i had a little pep talk with myself about being strategic in the sets i want to see since i’m guessing the stream will be cut a little bit earlier on monday morning.

shaboozey starts off the stream tonight. hearing let it burn might make me cry, as it sometimes does. i’m so freaking happy about all the success he’s been receiving lately. he’s from va and he’s got a clear vision of what he wants to say in his music. i’m just so happy for him. i genuinely almost cried at his set, the black boy joy was screaming out of him. i am sad he didn’t perform let it burn, but im glad we got annabelle. maybe next week?

i think this still woozy set might be one of the highlights of my weekend. how the fuck did he do some much jumping around and not sound tired nearly at all???? i need that type of energy in my life. i also really loved how the band members save for the drummer were kind of running around the stage too. such a good vibe going at this set that it was infectious. i was smiling the whole time.

we’re making our way down this list with amaarae being next! she just walked onto the stage like a whole ass queen. damn. good shit already. especially starting off with angels in tibet. hearing her lower i guess normal register was pretty different but i liked it. it was like getting to know a different side of amaarae since this was my first time seeing her perform. sad we didn’t get a full sad girlz luv money performance but princess going digital was great.

i saw jennie and apparently basement jaxx started late?

i’m glad the rap girlies are doing great at coachella this year. megan the stallion looked sooo good and i’m beyond happy she performed plan b, one of my more recent faves from megan. reminds me a lot of lil kim. i’ll never get tired of hearing wanna be and seeing queen latifah, victoria monet, and ciara was a great surprise. happy to see megan on the main stage.

xg was so good. girl gvng live with the electric guitars >>>> the feeling of being proud also extended itself to them. i was disappointed they didn’t do a full performance of howl though.

next on the list was polo & pan as i raced against the time of whenever the stream would end for the day. i stared to seriously doubt if id be able to see post malone today. if not, no worries. there’s always this upcoming weekend! polo & pan are so groovy and mystical. the anxiety of missing posty’s set did kick in, so i did leave their set a little early. i can catch the full thing this weekend.

post was so casual starting off his set it made me laugh . i am interested to see what songs he’ll choose for his set given his shift in genre, but starting with texas tea was pretty cool. then we went into wow with a slight country feel to it. interesting.

i also left his set a little early to catch beabadoobe. man i really wish i knew what time the stream was being cut. anyway, loved the design of her set so much, it went really well with her pink guitar. it was very early 2000s so i was jamming even though i’m just now getting into beabadoobe. for some reason a few of the songs i’ve heard sound like something that would be on charmed?

i kept seeing how good of a set ginger root had. i stopped there for a minute and was can see why they were getting high praises. very cool. i went to basement jaxx right after and that was pretty hype. a good set to leave this past weekend off.

i think friday was my favorite day overall. for this week off the top of my head, my favorite sets were lady gaga, charli xcx, clairo, still woozy, ravyn lenae, d4vd, djo, yo gabba gabba, missy elliot, xg, & the marías.

i do have a lot that i want to see again this upcoming weekend, while leaving a good amount of room for artists that i should check out weekend 2!

I have not watched Rock of Ages but I after scrolling past your pinned post with the big claim 'i don't think i've ever seen a musician represented properly in media like this' a couple times I went fine. I'll bite. And watched Pour Some Sugar on Me. and oh my are you Correct. I hear this film kinda sucks. Tom Cruise shrugged and went well that won't stop me. and now just about every good musician movie ever has to live with the fact that they cannot attain to the entertainment value or realism or commentary on concert as performance that is the silly little song pour some sugar on me in the pretty bad film rock of ages.

Anon I am shaking your hand. Thank you for being so correct. That is exactly it. Rock of ages is in fact a pretty bad film and when you watch it you can sense the shame and resignation in every single actor’s performance—except for TC who really said maybe the movie sucks but I could never ✨💅  I love that he agreed to do the movie because he just really wanted to do a musical, of course he wanted to do a musical! the man is a performer and his style of camp is perfectly suited to the musical format! And like you pointed out with Stacee he leans heavily into the performer-playing-a-performer-playing-a (etc) aspect of the role, you can see in each song how he explores that aspect for Stacee in different ways. there’s of course a metanarrative element too, as a great admirer of TC I would never disrespect his craft by suggesting he’s basing Stacee off of himself, but when you’re watching a TC movie 99 times out of 100 in analysis you have to keep in mind that this character is played by Tom Cruise. Stacee Jaxx is a legendary performer played by a legendary performer. He has personas on personas on personas, so much mythos crammed into not a lot of screen time.

For this post I’ll just talk about pour some sugar on me cause you haven’t seen the movie anon but at some point I’m probably going to write a longer rant post about my thoughts on stacee’s arc as a whole

I loveeee the way the song functions in the movie because to me it’s the moment where it’s possible to understand Stacee for the first time. Stacee is fucking confusing in the beginning of the movie, TC’s performance makes him hard to parse and off putting, and then when you see him on stage at least for me there’s this sense of everything clicking into place...you understand how Stacee could be a rock god, and a sex god, and a reluctant sex god, and a burnout, because for the first time you realize that he is not primarily any one of those things. Primarily, he is just a damn good musician. In Pour Some Sugar on Me, I’m so struck by Stacee’s sheer effortless competence. I could write odes to TC’s physicality in that song, not just because he’s gorgeous (he is) but because of how routine it all looks. It’s clearly deeply ingrained in Stacee’s body to go through these motions, it's practiced to the point of instinct, it's controlled, it's beautiful, and he's completely invested in the performance to the exclusion of everything else. It’s obvious from watching him that there’s not a single thought in his head except perfect execution and the adrenaline and power rush that comes with it (I adore the manic gleam of his eyes when he sings ‘do you take sugar?’ not to mention the return of that expression at the end, when he seems dazed, completely out of it and totally satisfied). He's pure function. You understand for the first time that the point of Stacee Jaxx is not to be a human being, but to perform. 

It makes the “reluctant sex god” idea posed in the previous songs completely comprehensible, because despite how blatantly sexual the scene is, it's obvious that Stacee himself is not trying to seduce anyone. All the sexual parts of the performance are part of the performance. Part of the art form. Stacee showing personal sexual feeling onstage, or Stacee’s own relationship with sex interfering with the performance of sex he’s executing, would be the work of a lesser artist. Sex is on the program, so Stacee plays it! Incidentally, we see outside of that scene that Stacee the human, the person outside of the persona, doesn’t like sex at all—but for Stacee, fulfilling his own human wants and needs is not his primary purpose. His primary purpose is to be a damn good musician. That’s what he was made for, and it’s the only thing he’s good at.

I love the ship dynamic of a severely overpowered character × a meer mortal. I love the whole: Mortal, who thinks they're big and scary × Ungodly overpowered character, that could snap them like a toothpick.

And make it even to where the eldritch horror god, allows the mortal to boss them around, dom them, and even manhandle them. Knowing that if they really wanted to, they could overpower them in a millisecond. Yet they let them because for once, it's nice not being the one in charge all the time~♡

And it lets the mortal feel strong that they have an ungodly powerful monster on their knees in front of them, wearing a collar~♡

It's nice for both of them. Even if it doesn't last long, it's still nice for both of them when it happens~♡

These figures are mighty cool, but they're also mighty expensive at around £15 a pop ☠️

As a certified sucker who bought too many of these trying to pull Law for my partner; I've put together this handy guide to help you waste less ฿ money ฿

Luckily, this is a nice set to start with, as there are only 6 normal figures to collect. Each full case of 6 boxes is guaranteed to have one of each, unless replaced by the rare Boa. So starting with a fresh box is advised for feeling them out 👍

WHAT'S IN A BOX?

Each box will contain: the figure sealed inside an opaque bag, a stand, a character card and sometimes accessories such as swords.

If you find a box with damaged packaging, you can check which figure is inside without having to open the bag. The character card isn't hidden and is helpfully colour coded on both sides! If you can catch a glimpse of it, you'll be good to go.

Unfortunately, there's currently no tells on the outside of the box as to who is inside. Sometimes other blind boxes will have unique code stamps or barcode endings. (Always worth a google if you're into other blindboxes)

I see a lot of people that headcanon Izaya as ASPD, and while I respect the reasoning, my Borderline ass legit gets a suffocating feeling in my chest whenever I see those headcanons, because I project onto him and therefore FIRMLY and ONLY headcanon him as BPD. And the thing about BPD is, it's really hard to accept things that don't mesh with your current sense of identity. Like, some of the ASPD headcanons are actually really well thought out and well-written! But because I have BPD and NOT ASPD, seeing him headcanoned as anything other than Borderline legit causes me distress.
