That’s not true. Not anymore.

It was taken from her and she let it happen. She gave it up without a fight. 

“I am an Archmage! And Eadwulf would never betray me.”

Lies. All lies. She handed Eadwulf his betrayal with an open hand. He will ‘see her for dinner’, to discuss her obedience— 

Astrid doubles over and vomits. And with that release comes the screaming. 

She will not be obedient. She will burn this fucking house down before she hosts a saboteur. She will storm the Assembly meeting and she will not stop until she has ripped Eadwulf limb from limb—

Her scream breaks into a sob. 

What has he done? Why didn’t she see it coming? Her Eadwulf. Her rock. The only person she has ever trusted and he— 

“You stupid, fucking, girl,” she snarls. She presses the heels of her palms to her eyes until she sees white. It doesn’t stop the tears. 

She’s going to kill Eadwulf. That’s what happens to traitors. And through it all— she— 

She doesn’t want to. 

She has to. She can’t live like a fucking dog told to heel. 

A voice cuts into her thoughts. 

“Hi, it’s Jester! It’s soooo beautiful in Nicodranas today. Have you been eating enough lately? You should come see us and take some time off —”

Astrid’s mental maelstrom halts. She wipes the tears from her face. 

Away? Yes. Away from here. From all of this. Time to think. To recover. To plan. 

“Thank you for the invitation. A change of scenery sounds lovely. I will be there shortly.”

Reccer 3 Says: An alternate ending to C2 with a great balance of intrigue, angst, slow-burn romance, and fluff (if you can count three wizards lying to each other for fun as fluff.)
