Ceramiche Jianzhan
Ecco il nuovo articolo in italiano del blog! Here the new Italian language post of the blog. Soon the English one!

Listening to the wicked soundtrack for the millionth time and can’t decide whether I prefer “No One Mourns the Wicked’ through a SangYao or ChengXian lens. I think it works so well for ChengXian post WWX death but it could also work well for SangYao if you take the song a little out of its original context. NHS singing it so smugly at the beginning then progressing through until you get to the final back and forth between the munchkins and Glinda (“no one mourns the wicked” “good news” x2) where NHS in confronted by the people that know exactly what he did and I just 😮‍💨

So, there I was, minding my own business, when Pinterest decided to draw my attention to THESE:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I WANT THEM SO BAD. However, I have made the responsible, adult decision not to get them because I don't have any more space on my shelves need them. I don't. I don't need them, really.
REALLY.
But that cannot and will not stop me from gushing over the mythological creatures they feature, so here we are.
First up, this cutie.
Tumblr media
A pretty easy one, as it's just a nine-tailed fox. Here it's labeled as Jiu Wei Hu, but it's also called the Huli Jing. Known in Japan as the kyuubi or youko and Korea as the gumiho, this little guy shows up all over East Asia. Honestly foxes could take up their own post several times over, so I'll leave it here for now.
Next up, the chonker!
Tumblr media
Once again, this little guy has another name. Here called Di Jiang, I am far more familiar with him as Hundun, a primordial chaos god that has a lot to do with the founding of the universe. As you can see, he look a little.... wierd. For starters, he has no face. In fact one of his more famous myths has to do with exactly that. See, Hundun was just chilling in the center of the world when 2 gods started to visit him. They felt really bad for Hundun, not having a face and all, so they decided to 'help' him by carving holes into his flesh. The idea was that he would be able to see, hear, eat and breathe with them, but after the seventh hole Hundun died. Looks like cutting holes into people to reorganize their biology can have unforseen medical consequences, what a surprise.
Next!
Tumblr media
Wen Yao was pretty hard to get any info on, but from what I can tell it was a carp with wings (possibly on the back of the model) and was an omen of good harvest, hence the rice.
Next.
Tumblr media
When I first saw this one, I thought it might be a pair of fenghuang (Chinese pheonixes), as they also often come in male/female pairs, but it's actually a different creature entirely. The Man Man, also called the Jian Jian or Bi Yi Niao are a pair of birds that resemble pheasants, except they only have one eye and one wing each. They are very romantic figures, with the obvious symbolism of a person's partner completing them. Awwww.
Next.
Tumblr media
This here is Xing Tian. I have a whole post on him and what his deal is, so feel free to check that out.
Continued in Part 2

XiaoYao who is afraid of abandonment AND who, according to her cousin, doesn't wait for anyone, spends her time seeing XL leave her, waiting for him, etc… And we see the evolution of her resolutions/thoughts/feelings with each separation.
1st one : Episode 14 - XL comes to save her (too late) and, seeing that he is injured and that their chance of survival is low + having Shiqi with her, XY gives up trying everything to escape with XL and sends him away (also probably knowing that after that day, she may not see him again or at least not as with her fake identity).  XL leaves her because she asks him to but she does it out of concern for him (and also because she's aware the moment of truth with her family is approaching & she can no longer run away from it). This is the last time they see each other as XL and WXL and WXL's look implies the gravity of the moment. It's the beginning of the end for them (even if it also marks the beginning of a long, complicated but strong relationship).
2nd: Episode 19 - XY is now openly the great princess of Haoling and in XL's enemy camp. She has just confessed to him she's afraid of falling in love with him. XL abandons XY because he's angry, sad and resentful ("if I help you and it makes you dream of me, that would be a sin"). He leaves her because she wants him to but does it in a petty way. XY doesn't want to be abandoned while not wanting XL presence in the sense that he wants it. She still seeks to maintain a lighthearted friendship between them but he doesn't want to. This moment marks the end of their relationship as it was before because they both crossed the line: XL by trying to force her to kiss him then abandoning her because she doesn't want him romantically and XY by revealing she is afraid of loving him now she's in her female body. The two having therefore openly expressed the romantic tension between them.
3rd: Episode 25 - XY now knows for sure that FFB is XL. After helping him, she recalls the good and bad memories between them and bids him farewell (since he is on the run from her family). But having contradictory feelings, she returns to treat him a few hours later while he is already gone. We see at this moment the conflict in her. She wants him gone (and put a distance between them by forbidding him to bite her neck) but at the same time she starts to assume/realize she doesn't really want that. The time spent with FFB shook her resolutions and the barriers she tried to put around her heart.
4th: Episode 27 - XY and XL have a good time together. But XL announces he must return to the Chenrong army, that he will no longer be FFB for a while. XY then expresses for the first time that she doesn't want to see him leave by saying she would like him to only live as FFB. This is the first time that XL leaves her without it being her choice and that she openly expresses her reluctance to see him go. Her feelings for him are now openly more assertive and strong, and she can no longer hide the fact she wants him in her life.
5th: Episode 32 - XY & XL spent 37 years together while XY was in a coma and only alive in spirit form. When she wakes up, XY learns XL doesn't want to see her and sends her back to her family. Upon learning this, XY returns to lie where she was for 37 years and cries. This is the first time XL leaves without saying goodbye and XY openly shows her despair and sadness.
6th time: Episode 35 - XY goes to see XL to ask for his blood to tame her new bow. XL then tells she has mastered archery and that their lessons stop there. The pretext that allowed them to spend time together is now coming to an end. XL turns away from her and, for the first time, XY ends up doing the same. Each going in the opposite direction which means XY is done waiting for him. That she too will follow her path from now on. Because of XL's absence and silence during their last separation, she returned to Shiqi and decided to place her faith in him. Therefore, XL & XY farewell this time also symbolizes the end of their mutual hope for a romance between them.

These characters are the ones who you'd want to solve your murder. Methodical, dedicated, and with a healthy dose of luck, these sleuths are the best of the best.
Let's just hope they manage to get you justice before their messy personal lives catch up with them...

The FSYY Body Count List
…Because when you are trying to procrastinate an assignment, you'll focus your attention on anything that isn't the assignment, no matter how strange the subject matter is.
So here is a list of the individual Chan juniors' body count during the course of the FSYY novel. Fantastic creatures (non-sapient, not yaoguais that have cultivated a human form, but aren't regular animals either) are listed separately.
Nezha: 15 characters
-Li Gen the Yaksha (Qiankun Ring to the head)
-Ao Bing (pulled off steed with sash, Qiankun Ring to the head, tendons pulled out)
-Verdant Cloud Boy (archery accident)
-Yao Shaosi (speared)
-Colored Cloud Immortal (speared)
-Deng Zhong (knocked off steed with Qiankun Ring, then speared)
-Ji Li (speared)
-Li Qi (knocked down with ring, speared)
-Pong Hong (knocked down with ring, speared)
-Wang Bao (knocked off steed with ring, speared)
-Ma Zhong (incinerated by the Nine Fire Dragon Bell Cover)
-Long Anji (knocked down by a ring better than his, speared)
-Gao Lanying (didn't get her needles out in time, knocked down, speared)
-Ding Ce (killed by the Qiankun Ring)
-Lu Renjie (knocked off his steed by the Qiankun Ring in a fatal blow)
Note: I didn't count the Colored Cloud Boy, Lady Shiji's other disciple that gets bonked by the Qiankun Ring, because his death is never confirmed, even though he was already "struggling for his life on the ground" when Shiji comes out of the cave.
Yang Jian: 13 characters, 2 creatures
-Chen Jiugong (speared)
-Zhou Xin (Skyhowler'ed, then chopped in half)
-Bi Huan (Skyhowler'ed, then speared)
-Wen Liang (tried to escape after being bricked by Nezha, got hit in the shoulder by Yang Jian's slingshot, fell off his horse, and died)
-Yu Hua (Leizhen Zi knocked him off his steed, Yang Jian finished him off with his polearm)
-Zhang Kui's mom (indirectly, he tricked Zhang Kui into killing her via transformation arts)
-Chang Hao (Yang Jian transformed into a flying centipede, snipped its head off, reverted to his true form, chopped up the snake, then incinerated it with Five Thunder Arts)
-Wu Long (Yang Jian turned into a golden rooster and pecked it to pieces)
-Yang Xian (tried to flee after seeing Yang Jian turn into a tiger, chopped in half)
-Dai Li (Skyhowler'ed, then speared)
-Guo Chen (speared)
-Lei Kun (speared)
-The Nine-headed Pheasant Demoness (indirectly: Skyhowler'ed, then decapitated by Zhou soldiers on the execution ground under Yang Jian's watch)
Creatures:
The Flower Fox Ferret, Mo Lishou's monstrous pet (Yang Jian burst out of its body after being eaten, tearing it into two halves in the process)
The One-horned Black Smoke Beast, Zhang Kui's magical steed (indirectly, same as Zhang Kui's mom)
Huang Tianhua: 7 characters
Chen Tong (Fire Dragon Dart sucked into Tianhua's flower basket, then decapitated by the beam of the Moye Sword)
The Four Mo Brothers (killed by the Heart-piercing Nail)
Yu Qin (killed by the Fire Dragon Dart)
Chen Geng (knocked off steed by the Fire Dragon Dart, then decapitated)
Yang Ren: 6 characters
Fang Yizhen (incinerated by the Five Fire Fan)
Li Ping (caught in the fan's AOE while trying to persuade Lv Yue)
Chen Geng (incinerated by the fan)
Lv Yue (incinerated by the fan)
Yu Xian & Yu Zhao (incinerated together)
Leizhen Zi: 5 characters
Xin Huan (Skyhowler'ed, then finished off by Leizhen Zi with a staff to the head)
Zhou Xin (Staff to the head)
Peng Zun (knocked off his steed via a staff to the shoulder, then decapitated)
Yu Guang (staff to the head)
Lei Peng (KO'ed with staff)
Huang Tianxiang: 4 characters
Feng Lin (speared)
Tao Rong (speared)
Gou Zhang (speared)
Gao Gui (speared)
Wei Hu: 4 characters
Yang Wenhui (Demon-subduing Club to the head)
Yu Da (clubbed)
Zhang Kui (clubbed)
Jade Pipa Demoness (indirectly: decapitated by soldiers under his supervision)
Jinzha: 3 characters
Wang Mo (immobilized by the Dragon Stake, then killed with a sword)
Yang Sen (immobilized by Dragon Stake, killed with sword)
Dou Rong (indirectly: Jinzha immobilized him with the Dragon Stake, but Jiang Wenhuan made the killing blow)
Muzha: 2 characters
Li Xingba (killed with one of Muzha's twin flying swords)
Lady Chedi (killed with twin flying sword)
...
Final Thoughts
-If you count the creatures, Nezha and Yang Jian's kill counts will be equal, though several of Yang Jian's kills are indirect.
-Jiang Ziya: tfw your logistic guy, responsible for overseeing the supply line, has a body count as high as your designated army vanguard.
-Yeah, Yang Jian's official job in the Zhou army is the Grain Transport Officer. I think it really fits his personality——the clever, ruthless trickster who's also a mature, polite disciple.
-Though Leizhen Zi's kill counts can't match Nezha and Yang Jian, there are multiple descriptions of him knocking down whole sections of the city wall with a single staff strike. Maybe he's the anti-fortification specialist of the team or something. /lh
-Huang Tianhua: the ranged attacker who keeps trying to be a melee DPS. /j
-For real though, he seems to rely a lot more on the Fire Dragon Darts from a slain foe, and when the Heart-piercing Nail is used after the Mo brothers' demise, it only ends up going straight through Xin Huan's wing and the Winged Immortal's right arm.
-Yang Ren always gives me the impression of a soft-spoken bureaucrat who gradually discovered his inner pyromaniac after receiving the Five Fire Fan.
-My list is only counting the named characters, but everyone on this list who's still alive during the Ten Thousand Immortal Formation Arc are described as unleashing their might and treasures during the battle.
-Considering the AOE effects of some of these treasures, they probably send a lot more filler NPCs into the Investiture.
-BTW, there are 151 names on the Investiture who are labelled as having died in the Ten Thousand Immortal Formation. 123, if you leave out the 28 Lunar Mansions, who are killed by the 4 Immortal Swords seized from Patriarch Tongtian's previous formation.
-How many percent of those 123 kills each Chan Sect participant is responsible for is up to your imagination.
-Forget about the Nezha age discourse——Huang Tianxiang was probably about 10 when he made his first kill, since the text described his head as "still bald". If I remember correctly, in the Ming dynasty, before 10, most children had their heads shaved completely bald, or leaving only a few patches of hair tied up in a braid/bun.
-He's also 14 when he made his third kill, and 17 when he was executed by Qiu Yin. Four chapters prior, Huang Tianhua died to Gao Jineng.
-Jinzha and Muzha: tfw your total kill counts combined is only a third of your little brother's.
-The one detail I've observed is that Jinzha ends up rescuing/attempting to rescue Nezha, Huang Tianhua, Jiang Ziya, and Tianhua again (together with Muzha) after they get knocked down.
-I feel kinda bad for Muzha when I look at the numbers. He does cut off one of Lv Yue's arms after recovering from his first plague attack, though.

Reading TGCF: Chapter 84
Tumblr media
For those who don't know, I am reading TGCF for the first time and sharing my thoughts!
If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.
Also- if you want to follow along, I am aiming to post updates daily. You can find all the posts in the tag Bloopitynoot reads TGCF. You can also check out the intro post for context on my read BUT if you followed along with my SVSSS read, the rules and vibe are the same.
Tumblr media
This chapter was LONG (50ish pages) I split it over two days Friday night and Saturday. The tea photo was from Friday- oolong!
I wasn't sure if I would be posting a chapter this weekend, but it worked out :)
Let's get into chapter 84!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damn this mountain wont quit! It just ate Quan Yizhen! p253
Question: how does a mountain become a yao?? I thought a yao came about from a living creature?? p254
oh fuck, I kind of hope Yin Yu doesn't cut off Quan Yizhen's head. p255
I hope we get more insight into what happened between those two (we do). I want to know why the murderous intent. p255
Neat! Hua Cheng can look into someone's past? That's a cool skill! p257
Little Qi Ying is so cute :'3 p258
Okay but this is valid as fuck, "Ignorance isn't an excuse! If he doesn't know, can't he learn?" p261
oh no! My heart :((((( Quan Yizhen heard everything (awful they were saying about him). This poor guy now knows most of his peers don't like him :( p262 (art on page 263).
Tumblr media
Damn. Black water has 50 clones in the heavenly court at a given time?! It eems like security is pretty trash there. p267
Okay, but I kind of see how the issue happened between Quan Yizhen and Yin Yu. Quan Yizhen is very bad at following any kind of protocol based on social cues and really just likes to beat the hell out of people. p269
my heart!!! Quan Yizhen, "Are low-ranked heavenly officials beneath other people?" p271
ugh. This relationship is so complicated. You can see how Yin Yu's contempt grows. p275
Jian Yu is so mean to Quan Yizhen!! This poor autistic guy just doesn't get social cues. p280
OMG! Jian Yu gave Quan Yizhen the Brocade Immortal. p282
This is so tragic :((((( p295
What an ending!!!! p301
This chapter hurt!
Yin Yu and Quan Yizhen went through so much :((( Neither of it their faults to be honest.
We also ended on a banger! Is there a hit out for Xie Lian????? This is so wild- his old mentor???
