See, the thing is toxic yaoi in ships such as Billford is ironic. Most of the community doesn't actually ship it, it's satire. Jimmy x Curly is straight up abusive, Jimmy out chest Curly while feeding him his meds atleast once. There's a clear difference.

are you sure about that? I’m not much of a billford nor toxic yaoi shipper, but just looking at the billford and toxic yaoi tags, idk I think a lot of people do like billford and other toxic yaoi ships sincerely and not just as ‘satire’.

also yeah. Jimcurly is abusive. That’s kinda the biggest thing about toxic yaoi. That it isn’t exactly healthy. Your kinda proving my point, about how toxic yaoi is ok until the toxic part of the toxic yaoi is actually genuinely toxic and unhealthy.

Although I don't ship JimCurly I do understand why people do: it's because of how fucked up it is. Curly is an enabler who believes there's good in Jimmy and keeps trying to push him in the right direction. He keeps putting his hand out for him, despite him never improving as a person. Curly felt like it was his responsibility to help Jimmy and chose to be blind to his behavior.

Jimmy leeches off Curly, despising and envying him while also needing him to survive. He wants to ruin Curly's life but still needs him to stay around in some form. Jimmy has become so dependent on Curly that being around him brings him a twisted form of comfort despite his hatred for him.

Jimmy and Curly have an unhealthy but interesting relationship, and I can understand why people would want to romantically explore it.

gay men are very much capable of being misogynistic creeps towards women, too, btw. just so we're all on the same page. being gay does not make you immune to being the creep that harasses women nor does it mean you cannot rape a woman. headcanoning Jimmy as gay does not, in any way, take away from the horror of what he did to Anya.

fandom misogyny would be arguing that Anya deserved it for "stealing Curly", or just straight up ignoring, pushing Anya out, and bashing on her for "getting in the way" of the yaoi ship. just shipping JimCurly does not constitute as fandom misogyny. I feel like we're cycling back to "gay ships bad bc gay" here.

if it brings you joy to remove fictional characters from the context of their canon and spin a less traumatizing narrative, or change them as people to be less horrible and loathsome -- whether it's just for fun or a way to process your own feelings and trauma -- you are valid.

this also applies if you explore the characters for who they are canonically. because everyone processes things differently.

not everyone can or wants to face heavier topics. people shouldn't be guilted or shamed for trying to create a space that they can enjoy and feel safe in.

I would like your honest opinion on this subject and I don’t believe anyone has asked you before. But why do you draw Curlya. Is it because of their dynamic in game? Or because they’re both victims and you just want them to be happy?

i ship jimcurly too, i think their dynamic is incredibly messed up and it fascinates me to explore it. honestly my personal ideal timeline is pre-canon jimcurly and post-canon curlya, because i like to torment curly but i also like the idea of him getting to heal from it

i don't have any other ships because i'm simply not interested, and thus i don't have a 'personal take' to share, but i respect everyone's right to ship whatever the hell they want even if i personally don't understand it or can't see myself being invested in it. i do not engage in '''shipping discourse''' and don't go out of my way to harass people over fiction. if i come across something i don't like, i block the user and move on with my day. if everything is properly tagged and thus easily avoidable, i fully believe it's on me to curate my online experience :) call me a fandom elder if you want, i just think there are better ways to spend my energy, especially when it comes to something i'm doing solely for fun

The way this fandom generalizes jimcurly shippers pisses me off SO BADLY.

Like yes some of us (yes I ship jimcurly) ARE the "toxic/doomed yaoiiii aaaahh 😋😍" fetishizers, but that's like a not very big portion of us. The rest of us are just chill and think it's cool, or just like exploring the possibilities of their relationship being romantic, or whatever! Jimcurly makes me so physically uncomfortable. It truly feels like one again, the female-attracted male abuser character is just reduced into a fetishised toxic yaoi stereotype. Most of these people don’t even characterise him right like 😭 he would not fucking say that.

It makes me so unhappy. Fandom misogyny keeps ruining every interesting m/f dynamic (not even in a ship way, Anya and Jimmys whole thing is just genuinely interesting. Most fandom Jim curly stuff I see is so ooc anyway lolol).

I don’t believe Jimmy had romantic feelings for curly. He is the draining toxic friend a lot of guys end up having because you are too NICE, rather than kind. If curly was truly kind he would’ve done more for Anya, but ‘keeping the peace’ is easier for everyone.

Jimmy took his anger out on Anya sexually because he (as stated in the game) enjoys being in a position of power, having control. He low-key sexually harasses her pre-crash, and imo his jealousy of curly extended to his success with women. Curly lightly flirted with Anya and she had a positive relationship with him. Jimmy is uncomfortable to be around, he makes weird sexual comments when they’re alone together. He has obsessive resentment of Curly and forced himself onto the one woman on the ship, the woman Curly was seemingly attracted to and seemed to respect Curly a LOT, out of resentment and jealousy towards them both. And then as the captain, she has to walk on eggshells around him. The scene where he carries Curly’s body and hallucinates everyone praising him, he imagines Anya praising him too. And this part is projection from me but I honestly felt like his lack of hallucinating Anya was more pushing down his guilt. It’s easier to think about his lifelong friend who also made mistakes, apologise for crashing the ship and ‘I had issues, I can work through it’ rather than have to face that you forced yourself onto someone because that is never justifiable (neither is attempting to kill everyone but Jimmy is Jimmy). He doesn’t even acknowledge it in his mind because he’s rather pretend it didn’t happen (hiding it from the player), he can’t justify it. It would be better if she just liked him from the start, and respected him like she respected Curly. Then he wouldn’t have ‘had’ to force it. But that’s personal opinion. At least I have reason to believe it rather than just ‘I want this ship to be canon cuz I get off to mlm stuff and see women as getting in the way’. But idk maybe that’s because I’ve dealt with so many men just like Jimmy in my life who blame women for why they can’t get laid. I’m the woman who has been catcalled and harassed by weird older men, and have had actual incels argue with me in public just for wearing a crop top. And I’ve been in Anya’s almost exact position before, so obviously I have a lot of personal connection with her and Jimmy.

I just wish, as a SA survivor, that the one piece of media I’ve seen where the female SA survivor isn’t sexualised mindlessly and the scene isn’t shown, that the fandom would also appreciate that and maybe think twice before completely ignoring the obvious implications of both Jimmy and Curly’s relationship to Anya. Reducing them into gay toxic yaoi shit and then hating on Curly x Anya or ‘headcanoning’ Jimmy as exclusively MLM is fucking weird imo. Like yeah ok let’s just keep ignoring female victims and the only fucking representation of them that isn’t just male gaze abuse fantasy fanservice
