23:32 || ༻`` 2 June 25 — Monday
57 days of productivity, 40/57
The Sci Journal has a new entry!! A Brief History of Time written by @hyacinth-dancing-in-rain !
The article dives down into the different types of clocks through the ages, why they were used, their mechanics and operation, and other fun/interesting details!!
And a quick website update: Due to technical issues, images will no longer appear in articles from 02/06/25 until the issue is resolved. At some point in the summer of 2025, The Sci Journal will change website platforms and with it its domain link.
Notice will be provided at the change and when the new website is available to view
But anyway,
Today I've procrastinated quite a bit, but after 2hrs 13 I finished a marh past paper and went through the stats half of the textbook, noting down any formulas and important details which has been really helpful already! I'm postponing the second past paper I was meant to do today for tm.
Today I also journalled, drew (I forget how much I love colouring pencils and the pieces I make from them!) and watched another episode of Noughts and Crosses — which I'm absolutely in love with!!!! It's based off of a book series that I also adored and it has taken me a few years to actually find where I can watch this series for free! And when reading the books I never considered the cultural effects and influence from Africa that the idea would being so it has been amazing visualisation also!! I think I've only got 2 episodes left tho :( (I know what it's all leading up to 😭)

I got accepted into Saddle's Developer Challenge two weeks ago, a moment I genuinely never saw coming. Because compared to the other applicants, I have literally zero work experience. 🥹
Tumblr media
Before the challenge, I thought my hopes were slim, but now, after having completed it, I'm at a loss for words. I saw a Webflow expert had applied—his application boasted proudly on his LinkedIn, no less.
Tumblr media
He's a great guy, really, but with competition like that, I might as fold up my dreams of joining the agency into my expanding luggage of disappointments. The good thing is, there isn’t just one winner. The not-so-good news is, he’s probably not the only expert that's applied. I saw that two contestants wrapped up their entries on day one, while I, your beloved, scrambled to finish the night before the deadline. And if we're counting time zones, technically it was the morning of the deadline.
Since I don't know their selection criteria, I’m clinging to the hope that the same spark they saw in me to invite me to this challenge will light my way to the finals. I just pray breeze doesn't blow 🥹. And if I must say so myself, I am a pretty great website builder. Sure, I might not build everything from scratch or write custom code, but hand me a component library and some clonable templates, and just watch what I can do. If it sounds easy, do ittttttt 😂
Tumblr media
Results are due at the beginning of June, Insha'Allah. Wish me good luck, Charlie!

i see way way way more posts yelling about how wrong it is to tell middle aged women that they’re too old for fandom or tumblr than I see people saying anything of the sort to middle aged women. Like I’m 36 and I’ve never had anyone tell me I’m too old to be here 🤷🏽‍♂️

I'M BACK!!
Hiiii! It's been basically a month now since I've last posted here? I've been up to quite a bit (basically sick for this past month).
I gave up Instagram and Tik Tok almost completely. I still have some of my favorite accounts saved and will check back with them on the occasion, but it feels nice to feel like I have the freedom to finally do whatever I want. But that's the big question though, what do I want to do with all this free time.
I decided to start learning html, because why not? I love how cute everyone's websites are and I really want to make my own cute website. Mine is very ugly right now though, but I have this big concept in my head I really want to play out on there. Very 2000's Barbie website inspired if y'all remember that iconic moment in history. My learning has been slow, but geez I am just having the best time doing it. I'm so happy!
Also been doing lots of reading and writing as of late. It feels so good to just really give back as much as I take in. I'll have to share my reading and journaling process some time. I take such great pride and joy in both practices. I've been wanting to make some videos to record all the wonderful things I've made. I'm really proud of myself and the things I create now, yet I still feel so timid in sharing my work. I truly do want to build more confidence in sharing my craft. I'm think of starting here and blossoming from there.
And with my desire to record my process, I've been really sitting on the idea of making a youtube channel. I have lots of things I want to share, talk about and remember. Yet, I run into the wall of fear. Somehow, Tumblr is the only place I feel comfortable openly sharing a piece of my life to an audience. Maybe my addiction of writing trumps my fear of being seen. Regardless, I want to post on here more. Get myself more comfortable talking about my interest and my business. I still have a lot of fear in me, but even my therapist pushes me to promote myself and my business in the easiest and most comfortable way I can. So I would like to start here.
Hope to see more of y'all very soon!

With the sudden collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, many of the former empire's resources were sold off to the highest bidder, and their $14 billion space shuttle program was no exception.
Seeking to recoup some of that eyewatering spend, in 1998, the "Buran" (Russia's answer to the American Space Shuttle) was offered up for sale on eBay for $10 million.
No serious offers were received - with most people assuming the listing to be a joke, until the New York Post confirmed the sale, with Russian authorities stating they "actually have two" if anyone is interested.
Tumblr media
(Pictured: A later auction of a smaller scale Buran in 2005)
Sensing an opportunity, a group of Aussie entrepreneurs including Australia's first astronaut and the lawyer for Prime Minister Paul Keating offer to lease the shuttle from Russia, to put it on display in Australia during the Sydney Olympics.
After gaining permission from the Kremlin for the lease, in 1999 the Russian military briefly stops bombing Chechnya in order to dismantle the Buran, and it is placed on a barge to be shipped to Sydney on the (soon to be infamous for other reasons) Tampa shipping vessel at a cost of $5 million.
Tumblr media
Once in Sydney, after a disastrous few months on display where crowds failed to flock to the shuttle exhibition featuring such compelling educational offerings as "activities is to assist in the development of issues of nutrition and hygiene at home" (an actual quote from their website) - the leasing company declared bankruptcy and washed their hands of the space shuttle completely.
Tumblr media
The Buran Gift shop where you could buy soviet space ship themed football jerseys, in case you needed one of those
One of four people listed on the lease, described as a business partner of the Prime Minister, also claims he never knew he was a director of the company, which went on to cause a lot more problems.
This whole debacle presented a slight issue for the cash strapped Russian authorities, who had now only been paid $100,000 for the 9 year lease of the shuttle instead of the $600,000 they were owed. Eventually the decision was made to abandon the once $1 billion Soviet pride and joy in a Sydney carpark, where it resided for a year under a small tarpaulin.
Tumblr media
Failed attempts to be rid of the shuttle included a 12 day auction hosted by an LA radio station, where listeners were offered the chance to buy the shuttle for $6 million, however all bids turned out to be pranks and the shuttle remained.
Multiple attempts were also made to sell the shuttle to Tom Cruise, with the exacerbated movie star's representatives repeatedly telling the insistent traders that he was not interested in owning a Russian spaceship.
Eventually a Singaporean group dismantled the shuttle and shipped it overseas, however Russian authorities soon reported they once again had been failed to be paid for the lease. Singaporean representatives responded that they definitely had paid for the shuttle, and that they simply couldn't remember when or how much was paid.
Representing the Russian government, Lawyer Suhaila Turani told the Wall Street Journal “I feel sorry for the Russians. They’re good in space, but they’re very naive in business.”
For a time the shuttle was abandoned in the storage yard of event company Pico, with the company owner telling the Wall Street Journal "I just want this thing out of my life" after three years of being stuck with it.
A few years later the shuttle was found by German journalists dismantled in a junkyard, and it was then bought and shipped to Germany to be put on display a museum, so all's well that ends well (except they dropped it from a crane while trying to set it up, but it polished up okay).

Note number 1: ALWAYS COMMIT YOUR TEMPLATES.
"But senpai, this isn't git, it's Webflow!"
I know that. I just mean you should bookmark every template that catches your eye somewhere—ESPECIALLY the ones you actually use. As someone who prides herself on building from templates and libraries, I cannot stress this enough. I’m still searching for this really lovely text slider thing that was supposed to be a step up from the usual typewriter text animations. It had 3 strings of text that disappeared and reappeared one after the other, so beautiful. I changed it because I thought I found something better, and when I went back to look for it in Made In Webflow, it had disappeared. Like magic!
Tumblr media
I’m sure it didn’t actually disappear, considering I found it by accident. I think I made a typo in the search bar at the time, and it was the first result out of just 2. I can’t, for the life of me, recall what I typed. I’ve searched through all my histories on every browser, dating back to before I even began the project. But to no avail. I’m still searching for it to this day.

Top: a pre-release screenshot of Mario Superstar Baseball, published on the IGN gaming news website in 2005 (note the IGN logo in the bottom right).
Bottom: in the game, the preview image for Mario Stadium uses that exact screenshot, including even part of the IGN logo, seen overlapping Mario's shoe.
This indicates that the developers, despite having full access to the game's code and being able to take any kind of preview screenshot they could want without any restrictions, instead went online and took a screenshot from a gaming journalism website without even editing out the logo.
