So as preparation to start outlining the Race to the Edge era of Kings of the Wilderwest, I've been turning the show on and listening to it while at work. While doing so, it suddenly hit me how many of the villains fall into the trap of

"You're so obsessed with Hiccup, it makes you stupid!"

Like, Hiccup has his moments too, but come on. All these guys really should have more important things to think about then this one-legged twig who looks at giant fire breathing lizards and gives up all thoughts of self-preservation in favor of "I bet I could pet that!! ❤️"

Only for the visages of Maruki and Adam Kadmon to shatter like glass the moment Hyde's claws connected.

A mere illusion - and one that left Warden wide open.

Faster than the Mad Mutt could blink, a golden fist clocked Hyde in the face at blinding speed before the wild Persona found its arms locked by that same hand and its twin in a police-style hold, it's torso and face now smooshed against the ground!

At the same time, a strange rush of...something passed over Warden, invoking a strange emptying sensation within him, before black tentacles with neon blue lining pinioned his arms and legs before slamming him flat against the ground backfirst!

And now looming over them both were the *real* Maruki and Adam, the former of which was donning a disheartened yet far from surprised face.

"I figured as much," the Inu reluctantly admitted before bending down on one knee to address his friend better. "You and your other self can cease struggling. I took away access to all your physical attacks."

After all, from what the former counselor had seen of Warden's wild side before, being more "hands on" seemed to be his modus operandi. Which is also why Maruki had Adam cast Heat Riser on themselves and Debilitate on Warden and Hyde, just to be safe since the Primordial Man's restriction powers weren't quite as long lasting as before.

Hopefully, though, even that should buy enough time for what needed to happen next.

Regaining his soulful gaze, Maruki regarded the crazed canine with genuine concern. "Now then, why do you think I would ever hide you away or 'contain' you? Or hurt you for that matter? This is only another part of you, just like your Persona, and I have no intention of changing who you are."

Amongst the starry night alpine sky, sat below a carnival a lit with neon lights. Cheers form kids and adults alike could be heard all around, from the enjoyment of the park’s rides, minigames or it’s myriad of treats both sweet and savory.

Within all this commotion walked a lone dog, who was fortunate to have a day off today, and was headed to a particular château that stood in the center of the park. He had heard from onenof his friends that chao races were often hosted there, and decided to see one for himself.

The snow crunched beneath the footsteps of his red winter boots, the slight breeze in the air made him shiver a tad bit, do he put his red mitten gloved hands in the pockets of his coat and continued msking his way through the crowd.

“Uuurrghh… I hate the cold.” He complained.

“Why did I let them convince me to come here? Maybe I should just go ho-”

He was stopped mid sentence by the smell of a nearby kiosk selling grilled hot dogs. He lifted his head slightly and sniffed the air, that’s when his stomach decided to growl and he locked his lips hungrily, then quickly lowerd his head ashamed, hoping no one saw that.

He sighed and shook his head. “I’ve got to have alot more self control in that department.”

With a shrug, he quickly dashed over to the kiosk and ordered a hot dog with mustard on it. He leaned against the counter as he waited for his food.

personally i really like that cat laila and jeremy don't handle jean's situation perfectly. why would they?

as far as we know the three of them are 'normal' in ways jean simply isn't. even if jeremy's backstory is on par with any of the foxes, it's still obvious that he lives in a very different world and has a different worldview

there's bound to be missteps, especially since the three of them are only college students woefully unprepared for a situation like this

if it blows up in their faces, good. presumably it will lead to conflict and then character development which will ultimately make things better for jean

i know you're reading the book rn, but i need to know is it true that bill has a redemption arc??? and that billford is canon??? I HAVENT GOTTEN MY COPY YET BUT IM SEEING OTHER PEOPLES COMMENTS AND POSTS ABOUT IT I NEED TO KNOW😭

As of the end of the book, Bill is in the process of being forced into a redemption arc. Please understand that I say that like "the airplane is in the process of being forced into a shoebox." It's not successful thus far and might never be successful from what the book presents. But the road is offered to him.

In my opinion, Bill & Ford's relationship is being written like a (mostly one-sided) romantic relationship (from Bill toward Ford), with multiple in-text parallels between how Bill talks about romance and how Bill interacts with Ford, and I believe the romantic coding is deliberate. I have not yet read something that explicitly verifies Romantic Emotions Are Happening and I don't expect to.

Like, we're at a point where Bill crushing on Ford has less textual support than Dipper crushing on Wendy, but more textual support than Tyler Cutebiker crushing on Manly Dan, and maybe even more textual support than whatever thing Dipper & Pacifica have going on.

It's left open-ended enough that you CAN go "Bill's just platonically obsessed with Ford and platonically trying to 'seduce' him and platonically heartbroken when Ford rejects their partnership after learning what Bill's up to." That is still an option. But this is some INCREDIBLY heavy romantic subtext.

At this point, "there's no romantic feelings on anybody's part here" is no longer the most default/neutral reading of Bill & Ford; it's gotta be, like, a choice. A choice that remains valid within the canon text, but still a choice.

So not "canon" as in "the word love is brought up between them" or "they were in a relationship," but "canon" as in "I believe wholeheartedly that the writer's intent was to make us think about a (toxic) romantic relationship when reading these scenes, whether or not such a relationship ever took place." The text doesn't quite go there, but it openly invites you to go there if you want.

I firmly believed the book wouldn't be any more billfordish than the show & J3 were—just some light, probably unintentional subtext. It completely blew past my expectations.

Why does every animated kids adventure show progress from Season 1: Malcolm and Jana help their neighbor who's a talking frog with his taxes but uh-oh, the taxes turned into monsters and they've got to fight them! to Season 3: Jana must kill the reanimated corpse of God meanwhile Malcolm must contend with the embodiment of existential suffering which has burrowed into his mind and is unraveling his sanity. Neither of them will ever be the same.
