The 1st issue of the Epic's imprint Stalkers was published with an April 1990 cover date. In the 1990's, America was being attacked by terrorists. Franchises known as the Stalkers were developed to face the threat. The issue introduced the Stalkers (Hanna, Iron Mike Fowler, and Kevin), Col Carter Tiernan, Jonathan, Studeman, Arthur, Crazy Teddy, Don, Simon Wesley, and Captain McNee. They were created by Jan Strnad, Mark Verheiden, and Mark Texeira. ("Motown Madness Pt.1" Stalkers 1, Marvel/Epic Comic Event)

rather than who you would like to see on the next taskmaster series, who do you think will be on it? like just your predictions or any inklings you may have!
anon if you're still around then you'll know i really took my time with this hahaha so sorry! i hope anyone reading this takes it as just a bit of fun and nbd, who knows who we'll get or who alex & the network have in mind! i'm answering thoughtfully (bc i always feel guilty not to 😩 so sorry this is long lol) but it's really just fun!!
i will say, of the more recent-ish series, i did get a few right!!! krishnan guru-murthy, nicola coughlan, alan davies, judi love, sue perkins, john robins, and joanne mcnally were people i just knew would eventually be on if the show could get their schedules right, and i was also certain sarah millican and dara ó briain would be asked — though not necessarily that they'd actually agree. when you have a level of seniority and esteem, the "it's such a great opportunity" aspect of the show isn't such a draw 😅 for some reason i feel SO PROUD about guessing nicola! i was just WAITING and wish sooooo much she had done a full series 😭😭😭 (how fun would saoirse-monica jackson be too!)
anyways, as for people who haven't been on yet — and this isn't to say i want them all to be, just that i think it's likeliest they have been asked or will be asked; i talked about who i want to see a little while ago here — it's important to consider the casting 'roles' the network has in mind when working with the producers to form a series, so i will keep that in mind too!
established comedian, typically a straight white man over 40: bill bailey, vic reeves, harry hill, geoff norcott, kevin bridges, adam buxton, ade edmondson, paul whitehouse (tommy tiernan? god i feel bad for not saying ed byrne but why do i feel like he's not gonna make it in the next few series? i'm on the fence with nick helm — unless he's friends with alex, then his chances go up significantly imo — and tom allen for some reason, and i feel like john bishop is almost too much of an ask?)
fresh talent comedian, typically a man under 40: rhys james, huge davies, ahir shah, darren harriott would be my top guesses but tbh any of the semi-recent edinburgh comedy award finalists are good bets as a majority of the winners from the last ~10 years have been on the series + throwing out tom rosenthal (i know he's not fresh fresh and also mostly an actor)...and, like, jazz emu?...just because if taskmaster know how much its audience adores weird little white twinks then they'll cast them
female or non-binary comedian: 100% sarah keyworth + harriet kemsley, maisie adam, jess fostekew, suzi ruffell. i've shifted away from betting on cariad lloyd and catherine bohart for some reason... (joanne was my no.1 lady bet for the last like 4 series hahaha)
non-comedian: this is very, very hard to predict because between comedy actors, non-comedy actors, tv presenters, news people, reality & social media stars... the potential predictions are just so endless! logically, the most likely is an established actor with a lot of comedy connections (think sally phillips, lolly adefope, liza tarbuck, sian gibson, daisy may cooper, susan wokoma; this category is where tm gets quite a few of its female contestants): matt holness, kevin eldon, amanda abbington, tom davis, sharon horgan, kathy burke, georgia tennant (also friends w alex?), su pollard, tom basden, apparently anyone from the cast of ghosts, and so on and so on and so on... + i'll also throw out maggie aderin-pocock as a serious contender + i really feel like one of the spice girls will be on new years treat
friend of alex: john robins was the prediction for the past few series, so just worth keeping in mind other people in this circle include elis james, matthew crosby, tom neenan, and so on
freebie answers because alex/greg have mentioned them before: jack dee, lorraine kelly, joanna lumley (i want jennifer saunders SO BAD give us an epic series w both ade and jen pleaseeee tm gods!!!!)
complete wild card bets that are either my instincts kicking in or my bias taking over: limmy, adam buxton, paddy mcguinness, diane morgan, daniel sloss, joel dommett, jess hynes, spencer jones??, alasdair beckett-king or josh pugh + if suzy izzard wasn't doing a big nyc show i'd say that's a good guess if only bc you know greg & alex grew up big fans
did i mention too many people?? if i had to put my money behind a single person it would be either ahir shah or sarah keyworth
these are almost all of my fr big heavy hitters when it comes to placing bets! but there are of course so many people i didn't name who i could totally see on either a main series or the ny treat — so many people just make sense and that's the beauty of taskmaster!!

Okay, I'm only posting this here because I pretty much only ever talk about HSR and/or Genshin here or like...on their respective subreddits (outside of fanfic on AO3, lol). I also realize this sounds like I'm ranting, but I'm not really that pressed...I just want to get it 'out' instead of rolling around in my head.
Spoilers down in there for some Penacony stuff regarding Acheron but if you're reading my tumblr you probably either don't care about Honkai Star Rail or you already know what I'm talkig about.
Anyway, I was in the shower and for some reason started thinking about the inherent tension between people who want to play HSR and experience its story/lore as if HSR was a standalone game and people who really want to dig into all the connections with Honkai Impact 3.
I am, more or less, one of the former (I've read up on various things about HI3 but I'm not interested in actually playing it). And the latter type of player isn't so bad except for the people who instantly draw comparisons between the games whenever anything remotely similar pops up (shoutout to the teased Amphoreus cast getting called by the names of the characters from HI3 they look similar to instead of by their known canon HSR names) and/or insist that when there's something in the story/lore that explicitly references HI3, everyone absolutely must know all the background detail from HI3 or you Just. Won't. Get. It.
No, actually, I did not need to know everything about what happened to the Raiden Mei in HI3 in order to understand the tragedy of Acheron's story. No, I did not need to know about Kevin Kaslana to understand what I need to from the story Welt told her. No, I don't actually need to know everything about Welt to understand or like his character even though he actually is a canon HI3 character.
Annnnyway, that's all just kind of set-up.
So during the Penacony arc in HSR, there's a couple of times where Acheron asks us some questions and she mentions that the specific answer isn't actually what's important.
And then I thought about in that one scene with Tiernan where he asks her for her name and the one she gives is an obvious reference to HI3 (not a problem, her entire character is a reference to HI3). I've seen people like, "I bet those guys who don't play HI3 don't get why this is cool," or like, "man, I hate that HSR is putting stuff in the game you have to know the other game to enjoy it" or whatever.
But like?
The answer wasn't important. The actual name could have been anything (as a Genshin player too I have decided it would have been hilarious if she'd said her name was "Alice Gold Andersdottir"). The point there was really in her giving Tiernan her name, even if it was pointless in the face of him, y'know, being dead. It didn't matter (nihility, baby), but he asked, and she answered and for a moment someone remembered her as more than just "Acheron".

origin and end
HELLO HOWDY GHERS THIS IS GOING TO BE A WHOLE NOVEL SO IF YOU READ THIS YOU ARE GOD’S STRONGEST SOLDIER Acheron is an incredibly complex and deep character despite the fact that the Path she follows has an Aeon that believes that the “ultimate fate of the multiverse is nothingness, and therefore, worthless.” So I’m gonna delve into that a little here with HSR lore
First of all: who is Acheron? We know that she’s not the same person as hi3 Raiden Mei, and definitely has a wildly different story. During Penacony’s story, that idea is basically confirmed by the conversation she has with Welt about Kevin’s defeat- “I ended that man’s life- alone.” Welt’s reaction immediately confirms the fact that he knows exactly what that means: that Acheron’s companions are dead as a result. We don’t know much about those companions, but for the sake of my portrayal, it will be assumed that she had her own versions of comrades. She is not the same person as "Raiden Mei" is, as confirmed by her conversation with Welt. Despite the fact that Nihility has eaten away at her sense of self, her emotions, and even her needs/feeling (see: she can no longer taste)-- Acheron is, in a sense, a perfect representation of an “optimistic nihility” (kind of an oxymoron but wait a sec.). Things will end, it’s inevitable– but it’s the journey to our end that gives our lives meaning and it’s our job as individuals to define what that meaning is at the end of the road. It’s the core of her character, and despite everything she’s been through and everything she’s lost, she continues to resist the corruption of IX despite knowing that her existence can be gone in the blink of an eye. Not only this, but the way she doesn’t hesitate to destroy Izumo even after “saving” it. The years and years she spent fighting the Kami. The way that even though she was tainted by the Shadow of IX, to the point that even the Doctors of Chaos comment that she has walked further on the path of Nihility than anyone else ever has. We know that her goal is to kill IX, and despite the fact that it’s an insanely lofty goal– she still presses ever onwards. Acheron presents the answers that a lot of characters are seeking: Firefly and Aventurine seeking meaning in life, the Trailblazer encountering mystery after mystery on their journey. When we first meet her, she’s confused by the Trailblazer’s presence and appearance because they remind her of someone. When she bids us farewell, she’s assured and confident that we’re not the person she thought we were. It could be due to the fact that when she uses her sword (Naught), she regains memories– and during Penacony’s duration, she’s unsheathed it twice. Not everything is meaningless to her even though logistically, it should be. As a self-annihilator, she literally holds no purpose in the universe anymore. That’s… exactly what the fate of a self-annihilator is. Despite this, though, she does find meaning in even the small things. Let’s take Tiernan’s fate as an example, and how she fulfills his last request even though it’s something so simple. To leave flowers at his grave, so that his soul is reminded that he and his companions were never forgotten.
Not only this, but Frebass being the young Nameless that she spoke of in the dialogue with Tiernan. I already spoke about this in the headcanons channel of the server, but based off of the Deep Diver lore dialogue, it seems as if Acheron gave Frebass the same treatment that Tiernan had– leading her away from the oblivion of Nihility and back onto the right path to avoid becoming a sin thirster. At one point, Acheron spoke of vanishing without a trace, and seemingly upset over the fact that no one would remember her. When she parts ways with the Trailblazer, she smiles and talks about reuniting with us under the sun’s rays. Girl has changed a lot even in a short time over the course of Penacony.
She literally is fighting the entire universe for a chance at a future, but it’s not just for herself. Acheron’s entire identity and purpose is built on the fact that she strives to provide a better environment for everyone. The fact that she stands guard at the Horizon of Existence to lead people away from the nothingness of Nihility despite the fact that she doesn’t HAVE to do that. She doesn’t want others to suffer the fate that she has, and she’ll do anything to that end– to the point where she’ll slay IX herself to make it impossible for anyone else to fall into the Shadow like she has. Acheron still sees meaning in life, when all that was left for her was absolutely nothing.
Moving on, though- Let’s talk about Naught.
Naught is forged from the remnants of two blades from Izumo, “Origin” and “End”. It’s also the weapon that was used to destroy Izumo and its twin planet, and holds the ability to bring back her memories in the event that it’s unsheathed. We see that she doesn’t ever pull it out of its sheath unless it’s absolutely necessary, and it’s likely because of the memory effects– but also the fact that its full power used recklessly can cause SO much damage and destroy WAY more than she may even intend to. She successfully killed Duke Inferno, who is technically an energy lifeform. There’s a lot about these flames and the reason why he’s immortal during some of the Herta Space Station story with Dr Ratio, and the fact that she ACTUALLY murdered him is impressive. And that’s why Aventurine and Black Swan both are intrigued aaaaand also pretty scared of her. Not only that, but we know she can drag people into the Horizon of Existence (Aventurine lol), but she can kick them out too. If she wasn’t nice, Aventurine’s ass would be gone. Seriously.
Her odachi is able to sever Fate and sever connections to other Aeons. She is also impervious to other Paths (which further enforces the whole ‘fighting against fate’ thing)... but I also believe that she holds the ability to go against Elio’s Script. Why do I say that? Let’s take a look at one of the first times we meet her.
The red dialogue she shows can change on every instance. It’s not always the same, and if you log out/log back in, it will be different from what it was before. The fact that it’s always differing makes me think that it’s impossible to tell what, when, or where she’s going to do something– and it seems as if she’s completely able to manipulate ‘fate’ in that moment. We also see this in the way that if the Trailblazer continuously denies her, it will eventually come to the point where we get a red text dialogue option that FORCES us to agree with her. Not only this, but Black Swan, despite being a Memokeeper, is unable to see through all of her memories. This makes me theorize that she can’t mess with them at all– whether it’s from the fact that Nihility has so much engulfed Acheron’s mind that it’s dangerous to a memetic lifeform, or the fact that she cannot be manipulated due to her ability to remain impervious… I’m not sure. Either way, we’ve seen for a fact that even Memokeepers cannot tamper with her mind. And it’s not like Black Swan is an inexperienced or “bad” Memokeeper either. The fact that Acheron shook her as much as she did was pretty interesting, and also the fact that Acheron doesn’t even remember or realize what she did. (See the fact that Acheron constantly expresses positivity regarding their dance)
This is a theory on my part, but I believe Acheron is fully aware of multiple timelines, and can act accordingly to avoid one or manipulate its outcome. It’s strange that she killed Duke Inferno but left the others alive (as it’s stated that Everflame Mansion just disbanded after). Acheron’s sticker in Penacony has flavor text that says “Destiny is like a thread, and it must be snapped when necessary”.... Hm. This also supports the fact that her memory is insanely disjointed, which is an effect of IX tainting her, but also maybe because she’s recalling so many different things that it’s just… jumbled. Black Swan also mentions that her memories had no order or organization to them. She can’t touch anything, and even asks Acheron if she’s “hiding anything”, which further solidifies the fact that even Black Swan doesn’t know what the fuck is going on in her brain lmao Acheron holds some modicum of psychic ability, in the same way that IX does. Maybe she manipulated them in the same way she has the Trailblazer before. To further support the fact that she’s able to see/sense multiple timelines: based off of what gender your Trailblazer is, it affects the dialogue provided. For Caelus, “he crossed blades” (Kevin, as referenced by Welt) and for Stelle, “she stood shoulder to shoulder with me”.
Also… this is kind of a Wild Theory, but– You know how in Divergent Universe, we get equations with 2 aeons? I wonder if someone can be an Emanator of more than one Aeon. MUCH TO THINK ABOUT. I’ll add to this eventually because holy crap it’s a lot but KGJFDFKDGJJF
