jacob arrow is my most hated character and here is why!

of course there are worse people than jacob, like horatio, malcolm, etc. but they’re the villains and we get to arrest them, they’re portrayed as bad people, we have the joy of bringing them to justice. while jacob is incredibly immature, non professional, rude. the way he treated luke was never okay, he was totally disrespectful to priya, he forced gwen to work during case 18 and he fucking threatened to kill hope. and at the end? we are forced to accept him back to the team!!!!! and forgive him!!!!! like no omg he should’ve died in case 30 instead of arthur!!!!!! i am never ever forgiving jacob arrow, from the moment he got a teaser but hope didn’t, i knew he was going to be my biggest enemy!

OH OH and the way he STOLE case 20 from felix???? dmpo, felix should’ve been the partner for that case, who tf invited jacob??????

literally so true. a LOT of rambling under the cut because i have sooo many thoughts about majima's queerness and its portrayal in the games. youve opened a whole can of worms with this one

majima could not be a queer icon if his life depended on it i will die on this hill. even if he came out or even if she transitioned or Anything like his worldview and politics are so fundamentally conservative on so many crucial points and hes literally so repressed about sexuality like he could never. he could neverrrrrrrr. he needs to hashtag liberate your mind and stop basing his entire mental model of society and human relationships on The Nuclear Family and honestly completely revolutionize his thinking before he can even begin to take any of the steps necessary to becoming anything resembling a queer icon, or in fact a queer person capable of inspiring and being a positive example for literally anyone*. bro did drag once and it was with the full intention of getting hatecrimed so he'd have an excuse to get into a fight with a man he ASSUMED would be transphobic and he thinks its "demeaning" and "funny" for men to crossdress like give me a breakkkkkk. assigning him 1000 hours in the forcefem dungeon

if im being completely real with you i dont think his understanding of sexuality ever Really went beyond "romantic love is something that happens between a man and a woman" to begin with. i am however planning to use this against him in my fic but i really do think the best we're getting with majima is like. "in a queer romantic relationship but deeply heteronormative about it" im afraid. and the sad thing is he literally cant Afford to move past this even if he wanted to because the position he has situated himself in in society is an active, material obstacle to this, in some ways even more than heternormative society is for queer people in general, because hes responsible for so many people who depend on him. this is how the patriarchy (or any oppressive systemic structure) works, this is why people don't question things; there are real, material consequences to "realizing" things about yourself and society, and to revolutionizing your thinking, and the system is designed that way on purpose. majima is not in a place where he has a strong incentive to do so, the risks far outweigh the benefits for him, and he has so many coping mechanisms set in place to prevent him from looking at mirrors (wow, i wonder why that is !)

also look at how he acts with civilians vs. other yakuza. the ds substory with daigo is him treating a fellow yakuza (outranking him!) this way but the is way more open minded about "unconventional" sexuality when it comes to civilians and women -- first example that comes to mind is kaho (minato girl) from pirates, but he also displays generally open minded attitudes about gender identity and presentation in that game on other occasions. he was even like this in y0, his hostess conversations have plenty of examples of him not subscribing to social norms especially in things like "gender equality". what i mean to say is i think him being in the yakuza IS the biggest obstacle to majima developing a healthier, queerer outlook on sexuality and gender. because its structure is so fundamentally patriarchal that misogyny, transphobia, homohpobia necessarily characterize the bonds between its members. him treating daigo the way he did in that substory is an example of this, but i dont think he would approach a civilian the same way. the yakuza is interesting in this way because it creates a patriarchy within a patriarchy -- like, we do often see this behavior between men who are regular civilians, where daigo and majima couldve been any two guys you know, because its the rules of the "club" -- the social club that is "manhood" as patriarchal society defines it. but the way yakuza place themselves Above civil society creates a different, more exclusive club and it has the same rules, and this means they are not exactly in the same social class as civilian men. so i do think majima might be more open minded re: civilian queer people in general, which is an interesting cognitive dissonance

not that there havent been queer icons who were FAR from being paragons of socially progressive thinking btw (plenty!! thanks to how rampant misogyny is even in queer spaces) but if we're talking about whether or not he would "deserve" the title of "queer icon".... *like i understand majima has helped many many rgg fans come to terms with their own transness, but i think its important not to project our own political beliefs and worldviews onto characters who frankly just. do not share them. reminder that majima is, CANONICALLY, a cis man who was born in ✨1964✨ who divorced his 18 year old wife after hitting her because she ABORTED HIS BABY. he thinks getting het married and having kids is like, the pinnacle of human happiness, forever inaccessible to him -- or he at least believes that's a morally correct thing to believe, but his double standards on this go SO deep that i Have to read it as internalized shame on his part. the cognitive dissonance is insane. you do NOT want to be het married with kids! its just a "dream" hes been sold that he couldnt really let go of because theres nothing else to replace it. because. again. cant afford to come to terms with his queerness

and while im at it i do think a lot of the fandoms revering goromi as some kind of like... paragon of transfem visibility or something (yes, even some of the people who just read this and went "well i definitely dont do that!") is also a result of this "projection" because theyre assuming majima is doing things in a way they personally find agreeable or understandable. but the fact of the matter is that goromi IS a transmisogynistic caricature, and even if shes the transmisogynistic caricature of the writers, technically, she is also majima's as far as in-universe analysis goes. it was not an exploration of gender in good faith on his part at all, and i really do think the fandom's unquestioning treatment of her (and majima) as a "queer icon" is nothing more than transphobia and homophobia and misogyny coming from the queer community itself, which, unfortunately, happens all the time. this is not meant to shit on anyone btw but i do urge everyone to not uncritically accept portrayals of queerness in media -- just because *you* have progressive ideas and can read things from that lens doesn't mean the majority of the people who engage with the same source material will, or that it was intended to be read that way. for most fans, a lot of the portrayals of queerness in rgg will do nothing more than reinforce pre-existing transphobic (especially transmisogynistic!) and homophobic attitudes of the audience. sure, you CAN read everything majima does in a way that *would* qualify him as a queer icon, but also, like, what if the world was made of pudding?

I’m mostly staying off the Mouthwashing fandom bc I personally don’t want to put myself through whatever discourse is ever going on there. But know I love Anya and Mouthwashing is one of the best games I’ve played that had an SA survivor AND was respectful about it!! The abuse Anya suffered is never portrayed as a spectical for the audience to leer at. They use the art of implication VERY well, and in the end Anya gets to go out dignified. She’s not just Jimmy’s tradgic victim, she’s her own character who makes her own decisions. Jimmy doesn’t get to kill her, she expresses her own agency to do so. She’s also the one who kept the gun away from him for so long. Also she’s SO fucking strong, she’s so cool. Anya I love you.

Also the game’s overarching (but subtle) commentary on rape culture, enabling, and how capitalism almost makes a set dressing for it is peak.

Some theories regarding the potential return of cash "the ratfuck" buckso.

We saw that cash had sadly escapes the fire unharmed. That's probably the biggest tragedy of that fire in that it didn't kill or even hurt the one person who definitely deserved it. So that means that knowing him he is likely going to come back and try and leech off his sons success but like any other form of (in this case metaphorical) vampire he must be invited in before he can do his dirty work but how could he manipulate his son into letting him in?

Well he could try the classic "I was only hard on you because I love you" crap many emotional abusers like him try even when their victims get away, trying to frame their cruelty as "tough love" when really they were jusf tough for no good reason. He could also try and take advantage of the fact that he and Barbie are the only blood relatives blitz has left and try and pull the "are you really going to turn your back on family?" Card on him and if all else fails I think cash has one last dirty trick up his sleeve and that's weaponizing tila against his son. I wouldn't put it past the bastard to say something along the lines of "now really blitzo what would your mother say about you refusing your dear old day a bed for the night".

Once he's managed to worm his way inside here's what I think his opinions on the other cast members would be and their opinions on him would be.

Moxxie. A weak girl horned loser his son was pathetic for even associating with. I headcannon that cash was obnoxiously proud of his ridiculously oversized horns and a misogynistic asshole who isn't even funny like Adam was. Moxxie is terrified of him as a lot of bad memories of crimson come flooding back to him as he learn his boss wasn't kidding when he said his dad crushed his dreams of musical theater. Specifically he yelled that it was "the gayest shit I've heard all day!!!!"

Millie. A stupid wrath ring broad who had forgotten her place. Mille in turn hates the bastard with a passion, he reminds her of that one creepy carny from loo loo land but worse. She can't for the life of her see why blitz is so instant that he stay without a fuss as while she gets being loyal to one's kin but this dipshit is barely trying to hide what a scumbag he is.

Loona. Blitzs "failed" attempt at parenting because he wasn't doing what he would have and be treating her like a literal animal instead of a person. Cash even had the audacity to demand that loona do your standard dog tricks like "sit, stay lie down and roll over" and he stole her beer! Loona naturally hates him as he acts like every other shit head who wanted to adopt her and they threw her back when she would take Their selfishness.

Stolas, fizz and veroskia are all the same in cashes eyes. Wasted opportunities to leech off them though his son. Stolas in particular as was formerly the richest and cash spilled the real reason why blitz was there for his first meeting. Veroskia would be the same but with adding misogyny and fizz would be basically him demanding a cut of fizz's life as he "made him what he is". Veroskia in particular would finaly get explanation as to why her ex was the way he was.

I believe I remember that vivi said the big themes of season three are family and addiction so a return for cash and maybe crimson and even paimon would make sense. Perhaps we could even get to see loona's bio parents in a flash back and in a twist they weren't awful people they just didn't have the means to care for her. But there's one character who applies to both themes and that's Barbie so I think she deserves a section to herself.

Barbie is one of if not thee most mysterious characters in the whole of helluva boss as we have next to nothing on her character other than she's blitzs angry drug addicted twin sister but we know next to nothing about how far her hatred goes, why she choose drugs, who she was before the fire, or even what she pre/post fire relationships where like. I've seen some people say she should be the one person who never forgives blitz because the other "forgave him too quickly" which i really don't think is the case, fizz is just a forgiving guy in general and their relationship was broken by an outside force *cough* cash *cough*, I wouldn't exactly say veroskia will ever exactly forgive him but rather simply not spend her life obsessively hating him, and stolas loves him so I don't think that blitz anyone who just hates him forever no matter what and plus I feel like that would be a waste of barbies character to just make her nothing more than a spiteful bitch who refuses to forgive her own brother even after being show proof of his innocence. No I think barbies character arc should end on a bittersweet note because while her misplaced anger is gone she still can't separate her brother from the fire and death of her mother in her mind and now blitz is permanent stuck as a walking talking reminder of what had happened to her mother so she still, more reasonably this time asks that he keep his distance from her. I like this as it doesn't reduce barbies character to a spiteful bitch (one stella is already too many) and still shows that not all relationships can be mended. At least not perfectly.

Something that could play into this is having Barbie act as cashes doubting minion by having cash manipulate her into trying to sabotage her brothers relationships to no avail. At first Barbie is all for it but as she sees the good her brother has done she begins to doubt cashes lies more and more and cash begins losing his composure as she starts to see the cracks and holes in his phony narrative this all culminates in a final showdown with cash where he drunkenly confesses to everything he had done, that the fire was his fault because he blew the safety budget on drugs, booze and hookers, that he never loved their mother, that he had abused blitz since the day of his birth and he could care less about it!! Snarling at Barbie "and there's nothin' a little druggie brat like you can do about it!!!" Maybe going as far as to try and hurt her in a drunken rage but at the last minute blitz swoops in a pummles the ratfuck to a pulp. Afterwards Barbie just collapses into a frenzied ball of misery and self hatred as she starts beating herself up over her supposed "failures" but blitz comforts her saying he knows what it's like to hate yourself and no matter what awful things you think you are your wrong and if she ever wanted to talk to him she could.

Still thinking about that one time in Hammer of Thor when magnus remembers annabeth telling him that they can't give up on randolph, literally saying "He's family, Magnus,... We can't give up on family." do yall think she was thinking of luke when she said that? because even though he did kinda get magnus killed, his intentions and heart were in the right place just like luke😭 luke wanted revenge for the awful shit the gods had done to him so he walked the wrong road and killed and sacrificed anyone who got in his way just so he could make the world "better". and randolph sided with loki (somewhat) and got magnus killed so he could get his family back. uhh anyways

tl;dr the magnus, randolph situation in HoT probably reminded annabeth of her and luke and that is the reason I cry at night
