Mini-review:

For some reason, despite the impressive cast and creative team, I didn't expect this drama to be so f**king good. It has so much important stuff to say about modern life in Korea, especially when it comes to women. And it does so while striking the perfect balance between drama and comedy, between lighthearted and heavy topics, resulting in a story that's nothing short of life-affirming. The entire cast is exceptional, but special kudos must be given to Park Bo Young for pulling off such a complex dual role. Also, as for the visual department, the drama does a lot of interesting stuff with the camera work, the cinematography and the editing, which I really enjoyed. Anyway, Our Unwritten Seoul will definitely rank among my favorite TV shows of the year.

Even though she doesn't has plans on taking Chunhwa's Company, which is Chulsoo's company, he still keeps the hope his daughter thinks to get it.

She's the favorite daughter of her mom and also is the most loved by her father, and well... of her husband too.

Jung Jihun - Lee Pil Mo

Chief Prosecutor of Gangnam District.

Has a really bad mood everytime and usually yells at his juniors, his marriage is about to end and his work situation isn't really better after Yujin's case comes up.

Kim Juhwan - Kim Kwang Gyu

He is the chief judge of the Seoul court.

Lee Haneul - Lee Da Hee

She's the attorney of the Ahn Family.

She studied abroad half of her life, featuring the top universities in Korea and the USA.

About: He’s the son of a very successful doctor and a music company executive, so he’s had a silver spoon in his mouth virtually his entire life and access to his dad’s black card since he was 14. During high school, he opened an instagram account and spent the next several years as an ulzzang, using his wealth and good looks to his advantage to gather an impressive following. Though the year that he graduated highschool, his parents had started pushing him towards college despite his intent to spend the next couple of years traveling the world and doing what he wanted. So to avoid college, he auditioned for several companies and finally landed in one, Spotlight Entertainment, and began training immediately. He does have interest in trying his hand in acting, but for now, his mind is set on debuting and he won’t let anything stop him from reaching that goal, no matter how many feet he has to step on in the process.

판도라: The Box of Yujin (Chapter 4)

Time passed and, after receiving the year 2025, on March 18, 2025, Jinsoul had to face the trial and everything that entailed after admitting to having carried out the crime that ended the life of her best friend.

Slowly, Judge Kim arrived at the stand accompanied by his entourage of judges while Jinsoul waited sitting in her chair next to her lawyer, who had been a public lawyer since she did not expect to get anything out of it in this trial. She knew that, whatever happened, she would end up in jail.

On the other side were the prosecutors, with Seonwoo and a frustrated Jihun in the benches reserved for that defense body.

Seonwoo had just finished getting up to speed and already had to do his job under the pressure of getting the best sentence for Chulsoo's interests and thus getting rid of the bad image that he could give to the father of his now wife Mijoo, who was also Yujin's sister.

Flashback to January 4, 2025

At the Ahn house, frustration was more than evident; Seul wanted to help her daughter, but she was not willing to cooperate.

It was then that her mother, in a desperate attempt, decided to call her trusted lawyer to be able to row the case and establish her daughter's freedom.

"Haneul-ah, I called you because you know that you are my best lawyer and you never lost a case. It's your time to do magic again, do it now, ask for what you want and free my daughter from the trouble she got herself into... "I ask you for what you want most!" Seul no longer knew what to say to be able to get out of that nightmare that she never thought she would have to live and even less so coming from her perfect daughter, the one who never caused her problems since she was born.

The lawyer looked at her with a distrustful look and tried to process the best way to say that she would give up the idea of defending Jinsoul. "I'm sorry, Seul-nim... this is a lost case no matter what I do." She says it while looking at that mother who projected on her face the most sincere and disappointed sob ever seen.

Haneul knew that the evidence was little and the case was very likely to be a loss given Jinsoul's insistence on not collaborating in saving herself.

End of flashback

So Jinsoul had to opt for public defense even though her mother wanted to hire a private lawyer. Seul was not at all happy with the idea of a public defender being her last hope and wanted to hire another private lawyer, but the deadline for selecting a defense had expired and they could not do anything, everything had already been decided.

Public defender Cha Guwon was the last hope of a Seul who saw her daughter moving further and further away from her.

Yujin's relatives arrived and so the capacity was filled for the trial to take place.

The clerks prepared the documents in which they would write everything that happened in court that rainy afternoon at the Seoul Court.

"Get up everyone, we are going to start Trial #12845 of the Seoul Court with address 219, Seocho-daero, Seocho-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea." "The session is declared open and the clerks will proceed to verify the presence of the parties involved in this process." Thus, the Judge began a trial that seemed to be a David against Goliath, only without being able to glimpse any miracle in the short term.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Judge and the summoned parties. In the city of Seoul, Seocho-gu district, today being Tuesday, March 18 of this year 2025 at ten in the morning, on the day and time set for the initial hearing, Mr. Yoon Seon-woo is present on behalf of the public prosecutor, and on behalf of the defense, lawyer Cha Gu-Won, representing the accused Ahn Jin-soul, who is in this process for allegedly being responsible for homicide. The parties and the audience, if they exist, are asked to remain as silent as possible in order to hold this trial in harmony."

Judge Kim responded after Secretary Yoon's introduction: "Thank you very much. Once the secretary of this office has verified the presence of the parties under file number 03-2025, we hereby open the proceedings against young Ahn Jin-soul for allegedly committing the crime of second-degree murder under Article 250 of the Korean Penal Code." "The word is now open to the prosecution to ratify its request."

Seonwoo, with complete confidence and without a hint of trembling in his voice, proceeded to recite what was in his indictment while his chief prosecutor watched him closely. "Thank you, Your Honor. In my capacity as representative of the prosecution, I appear at this initial hearing, filing a prosecution request against the young Ahn Jin-soul, who is presumed to be responsible as the plaintiff for the crime of second-degree murder against Miss Baek Yu-jin, based on the events that occurred on December 14, 2024 at around 4:00 p.m., where the wedding was being held at the Nonhyeon-dong church. Located at Nonhyeon-ro 119, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea. At whose wedding celebration the now deceased Baek Yu-jin was, and at approximately 4:00 p.m. on December 14, 2024, the accused Ahn Jin-soul arrived at said place who, without saying a word, with a firearm caused the death of the now deceased Baek Yu-jin with a shot. This shot was recorded in the right parietal part of the skull and caused the death of Miss Baek Yu-jin by penetrating head trauma which after a couple of hours her death was confirmed at Seoul University Hospital, SNUH."

With this, Seul didn't expect anything from her daughter anymore; she felt that there was no point in thinking that her daughter would reconsider at the last minute and thus tell the truth of what happened, or what she believed to be the truth. With her head down and thinking that this would perhaps be the last time she would see her daughter, she was preparing to leave the courtroom and, with tears in her eyes, she couldn't help but think about what happened for her beloved daughter to end up in such a huge mess.

She hated the idea of having a daughter in prison, since this would not only ruin Jinsoul's reputation, but hers as well; they would all fall like dominoes.

"In order to prove the events that occurred, we will use the following means of evidence: We have a report of the inspection of the scene of the events, provided by the Nonhyeon-dong police station, as well as the photos of the removal. In addition, the personal registration report, the cadaver removal report and the complaint 243-25. Likewise, your honor, we propose the statement of the accused, the death certificate, also the birth certificate of the accused, the confiscation report and finally the record of the reading of rights."

"Once again, Your Honor, having presented the prosecution's evidence, I would like to make the following request: To ratify the request of the number two prosecution, to admit the evidence that has been promoted because it is considered useful, pertinent, necessary, lawful and proportional in the present case based on what is established in relation to article 250 of the Korean Penal Code. It is also requested that the same evidence be developed in this hearing in order to determine the minimum activity; therefore, I ask that these evidence be made available to the defense." Seonwoo recited his part of the indictment while looking with palpable haughtiness and pride at Jinsoul's defense, as if they had the upper hand.

When it was the defense's turn, Guwon could not help it; although he wanted to defend Jinsoul with all his might, his fate was inevitable.

Judge Kim proceeds to give the floor to Jinsoul's defense: "The floor is given to the defense in order to refer to any objections they may have regarding the evidence proposed by the prosecution representative."

Guwon responds: "Thank you, Your Honor. This defense, after having heard the prosecution's proposal of evidence, has no objection and adheres to the evidence presented by considering each one of them."

Jinsoul looked expressionless, she felt like she had thrown everything away, she felt like nothing made sense anymore after what she had done.

Even looking at the ceiling of that courtroom, she wondered if Yujin was watching her from somewhere; she wondered if she could confess now or if they really had to wait until a specific moment to reveal that uncomfortable truth that was not known until then.

"The prosecution accuses my client of committing the crime of second-degree murder, requesting a prison sentence for her. The Private Prosecution qualifies the facts as second-degree murder, requesting the imposition of a sentence of 5 years or more for the damages caused. The accused, who has no criminal record, acknowledges the execution of the imputed acts, agreeing to the most serious sentence of those requested by the accusations, reduced by one third, meeting the legally established requirements for issuing a sentence of conformity, being applicable the provisions of article 250, which refers to the provisions of the previous numbers, where the reduction of one third of the sentence is established." With this Guwon seemed to agree with the already confident Seonwoo who saw another case won.

"However, since the defendant confessed to having committed the crime, the crime was the result of a struggle between the two of them, resulting in an unpremeditated crime and the cause of a stray bullet. As my client's statement states, therefore, Article 252 of the Korean Penal Code is invoked. In light of the above considerations, I request: That the Criminal Court, after hearing the defendant, issue a sentence in accordance with the most severe penalty requested by the prosecution, with the indicated legal reduction, committing to satisfy civil liabilities, and also in accordance with Article 252 of the Korean Penal Code, the reduction of the defendant's prison sentence by one third, as previously established." Guwon, as if surprising from behind, seemed to have the tool to give a stab that could help his client, although it would not be a deep stab like the one that awaited him later, it would be strong enough to hurt the pride of the prosecution that felt the case had been won and with a very large sentence for the accused.

Thus, the judge, understanding the defense's request, resolved the fast trial with the best conclusion for the defense. This being the greatest reason for annoyance in Chulsoo, who felt betrayed by the justice system for having given such a low sentence to the "murderer" of his daughter. That sentence was 1 year, as established by article 252, which indicated that unintentional crimes could have sentences from 1 year to 10 years, and being the original sentence of 3 years, reduced it would end up in 1 year. Jinsoul would spend 2025 and some of 2026 in jail.

Jinsoul's mother's personal secretary ran to inform her that her daughter would only be in jail for 1 year; it seemed too good to be true.

Jinsoul would have been spared a huge problem for the crime she had committed, or was believed to have committed.

Her mother couldn't believe it, she was simply overjoyed and thanked God for the very favorable sentence her daughter had received. She felt it as a divine favor.

Jinsoul was then taken to Seoul Prison to begin serving her one-year sentence; from that March 18, 2025, she had to be in that prison until the year 2026 on that same date. Only then would she be able to get out, and hopefully tell her side of the story.
