1. Callahan, but instead of a competent detective, he's an extremely competent crime boss. Whatever it is u can think of, running gangs, drugs, or having businesses pay him a 'protection' fee using intimidation. Ruling the town in his own way, the only crime that happens is what he allows. Justice is served out by him by his own rule book. Then here comes reader, some lackless Rookie constantly throwing a wrench in all his plans.

2. Cole as a cold and reserved showgirl! Really buff. Maybe a manager? Either way, cowboy reader takes a real shine to them! I think maybe for this one, Cole's facade breaks midway, and it's revealed to be a role-playing thing. He's just too sweet!

3. Vallen is more tricky than Callahan... Perhaps he's an intern or low ranking office worker with an impeccable sense of style. The reader first took a shining to him when he started recommending some clothes that the reader should wear? Or, his company is on the cusp of liquidation, he has no real money of his own, and he's entered into an arrangement with reader to finance himself and his company in exchange for a deal?

4. Ah, Adrian! Where he's the Student Council President who's taken an unusual shine to a luckless delinquent (reader). Still, obsessive, and socially speaking, he doesn't really care unless the reader is involved, but man...

Kvothe is a Lackless

I just reread NOTW and Wiseman’s Fear and something I picked up on that I didn’t before is that Kvothe’s mom was not Edema Ruh. She was a noblewoman who eloped with Kvothe’s dad. In one of the few interactions we get between Kvothe and his mom, Kvothe sings a rude song about the Lackless family which really upsets his mom. Maybe she’s only upset because the song is rude, but it could also be that she is a Lackless and has some residual familial loyalty. Later, when we meet Meulan Lackless one of the first things Kvothe learns about her at the Maer’s dinner is that her younger sister (no name given) ran away to marry a trouper which is why Meulan hates the Edema Ruh (besides the general racism that exists towards the Ruh in the NOTW universe. As far as timeline goes, I think it is safe to assume that Meulan is at least in her late twenties (no proof of this but we know the Maer is in his 50s so hopefully she’s out of her teens-early twenties but she still needs to be in her prime years of fertility since that’s the main driver of the need to marry) and her younger sister could be just a year or two younger. A 16-17 year old could run away with a traveling troupe, have a child soon after, and 17 years later be 34 making her older sister 35 which seems reasonable. I know that Kvothe extensively researched the Lackless line but it wouldn’t be odd for such a proud family to erase the name of a wayward younger sister. Meulan never says the name. Why would Rothfuss drop all these hints if not to draw attention to the fact that Kvothe is half Lackless? This would also explain why Kvothe’s dad was able to put together a song about the Chandrian with relative ease compared to Kvothe; the Lackless family clearly has some connection to the Chandrian so there was an early source of information for the song. I don’t know if this will ever be revealed in the text, and it seems unlikely, since I doubt Kvothe will call on the Maer again and he has no other family to ask, but it does add another interesting layer to the mystery of the Chandrian, the Amyr, and the Lackless family.

The Blac of Drossen Tor

What we know:

- At Drossen Tor there was a battle during the Creation War

- More people died there than are living in the mortal world during Name of the Wind

- Lanre and Lyra fought on one side for the empire Ergen, against a beast 

- Finol, a previous wielder of Saicere/Caesura (Kvothe’s Adem sword), fought on one side against daruna and gremmen. She was killed there.

- Lanre also died at Drossen Tor, and Lyra brought him back

- The battle was fought for 3 days and 3 nights, under the sun and the moon. 

“Then came the Blac of Drossen Tor. Blac meant ‘battle’ in the language of the time, and at Drossen Tor there was the largest and most terrible battle of this large and terrible war. “Black dress” has a phonetic similarity to “Blac” and “Drossen.” Obviously this is a bit of a reach, but if it is true, it means that under the place where the battle occured are Lady Lackless’s seven things.
