Observations: Haru Secretly Hates Anomalies?! alt. Sagara Haru and the Clash ft. Sinostra, Kind of
Clickbait title?! A little, kind of. But I swear it's relevant. Random thoughts about Haru, what he potentially tells us about the Clash, and what that could mean for the houses at large. Bullet point list, not very organized
It looks like Haru was part of the pro-Darkwick faction, or at least on the same side as Frostheim. He has Jin's phone number and enough of relationship to consider calling him. Vagastrom, who was Frostheim's enemy, also dislikes him...
Haru is probably from Ultio, the place that treats anomalies very poorly. In the first place, it makes perfect sense for Frostheim and Ultio to have worked together. They are Darkwick's sponsor and the enforcer.
Narratively, it gives Haru a nice motive to be in Jabberwock. Maybe he's "someone who came to understand that Darkwick thinks of ghouls as nothing but anomalies," and "someone who realized the cruelty of their own actions"... Haru, who focuses everything that he is into "protecting" and "taking responsibility for" the animals, seems like he understands intimately what would happen if he fails.
Haru seems chained to Jabberwock, in a way. Not in the sense that he's forced to be there, but in that he is really the last thing standing between the anomalies and Darkwick. Doesn't it seem like Darkwick wants Haru to fail? A half-destroyed safari park, no general students, one vice-captain who couldn't care less what happens to the anomalies.
I think Darkwick always intended to shut Jabberwock down with Clementia, Ultio, and Dionysia. Haru can't keep going forever; as soon as he gives up, those anomalies will have nowhere to go. Darkwick can take full control of the animals after that.
Ritsu notes that there are way more animals in Jabberwock than was recorded in the missions. Could Haru have brought some of the more harmless anomalies with him when he moved from Ultio? Could he have smuggled them? Admittedly, some of his anomalies do sound pretty dangerous.
Relatedly, don't you think Haru's intrusive behavior fits that of a prison warden? Keeping careful track of your captives, deciding their schedule, removing barriers of privacy... He seems to have good intentions now, but the actions are the similar, right? Anyways, that's why I think he's from Ultio.
But that does bring up some interesting questions about house alleigances... Since Haru and Romeo are still close, and he doesn't have any problem with Taiga, it seems like they weren't fighting each other. I might have missed some information about the houses being what they were, but Romeo seems like the type to hold a grudge, right? Assuming Haru used to be pro-Darkwick, it could be that:
1. Sinostra was on Frostheim's side (feels kind of unlikely...) 2. Sinostra was a third-party faction that didn't necessarily have the same interests as the Frostheim/Hotarugastrom team (i.e. being neutral, being anti-Darkwick but also anti-anomaly, just wanting to profit off of the chaos, trying to deal with the spy... etc. etc.) 3. Haru has already solved all his beef with Sinostra offscreen (lol) 4. The Clash was actually every house for itself and there weren't alliances at all?
But Subaru asks MC about whether she goes to Sinostra often. Could it be old prejudices rising up..? Or maybe he's just concerned for her health while she's there (very reasonable). Or if he's the spy, it makes sense that he wants to know more about Taiga, who's onto him...
In general, Jabberwock feels like the true neutral party in this situation. It's just never mentioned anywhere.
I know about the theory that Haru is from Sinostra... But somehow, I feel in my heart that it's incorrect... Sinostra, who's relationships are always in turmoil, feels too distant to Haru for him to have been really been part of the house. I feel like they would've mentioned him moving back to Sinostra already if it was as simple as that. Haku gets tons of references to Frostheim and Clementia, right? Or maybe I just really want my Ultio theory to be right, since I've imagined his character arc that way...
Well, I do love the idea of Haru being a part of Sinostra as some type of 'conman', so I really can't complain.

Gerson is a boss monster and here's why
As we know boss monsters age when their offspring does and if said offspring is dead they are stuck at the age they were when their offspring died
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we know Gerson is dead in Deltarune
Tumblr media
And the surrounding graves are of characters who we know were dead in Undertale as well (which is interesting that more of the amalgamates aren't there which is either due to lack of space or it means they are alive in the Deltarune universe)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Images from a post by @seased )
And we know that the amalgamates are dead
Tumblr media
When monsters die they dust.
And we know Father Alvin is Gersons son
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So why is Gerson dead in Deltarune where he has a son but not in Undertale where he doesn't? Because he's a boss monster that's why

adding onto the "coyotekit is pine reincarnated" theory that someone else stated, when hemlockroot was comforting coyotekit, her eyes changed color and she seemed to *know* him. but when he left, her eyes changed back to normal and she had no knowledge of him at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
along with streampaw being distressed that coyotekit didn't know them (and we know streampaw + pine knew each other) i really wonder if coyotekit is pine reincarnated, but they're obviously very different, because coyotekit recognized neither streampaw or hemlockroot. but pine (if the "blue eyes" is pinefrost) CAN, for lack of a better term, "wake up" during encounters with cats they know. this also might explain why we've never heard of pine being in either starclan or guidingclan, except for when their spirit is literally behind coyotekit

drposting again but with more substance. spoilers for up to around midway through chapter four.
okay so im not crazy right. i cant be. there is absolutely no way that 'the girl' mentioned in the prophecy isn't noelle. that's noelle, not susie. you might be thinking 'but oh !!! tumblr user lemodoe!!! we saw a very clear silhouette of susie the first time we hear the prophecy, back in chapter one!! its gotta be her!'
Tumblr media
THAT WAS RALSEI!!! THAT WAS RALSEI'S VERSION!!! the version he tailored For Them! of course it looked like susie, he was telling it like it WAS, because he Assumed It Was!!! (and for the record it looks like he genuinely thinks it's her, at least so far) Plus, literally right after the scene where ralsei agrees to tell more about what he knows, he says This Shit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which. to me implies that "the girl" is the one who wears ribbons, and that he's Assuming that means susie. ...and, more suspiciously, noelle's flavor text for equipping the white ribbon or pink ribbon is This:
Tumblr media
and her flavor text for equipping the twin ribbons, the white and pink Combined, is this:
Tumblr media
it singles the ribbon out as important to her, whereas ralsei seems surprised to be the one wearing it if you put it on him, (he Knows its not really His armor) and susie outright refuses to wear it (susie). a big thing that i find interesting that i didn't remember before starting this, was the flavor text for just inspecting the twin ribbons!
Tumblr media
and bada bing bada boom!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kid noelle! pigtails! 'it feels nostalgic!' that's HER armor! (that by itself basically solidifies to me that the girl is not susie, but there's MORE!!) the other thing that strikes me as odd is that the main thing highlighted in her prophecy is that 'the girl finds love'. susie Does! it does look like she reciprocates for noelle, and you could also certainly interpret it as love for kris ralsei and lancer/just her general character arc, but like. is that what makes her...her?? is that the biggest, most important thing that's happened to her...?? not...really? its important, but it doesn't take Center Stage. but with noelle??? oh boy Yes it does. most of her screentime in chapter two, and her section at the start of chapter four, BOTH highlight her crush on susie very directly! its a big thing for her! while, on susie's end, it is Implied that she reciprocates, but, again. doesn't take center stage. that isn't her prophecy.
Tumblr media
also, something about this silhouette is off. its just ambiguous enough to where it could be susie, but it doesn't really Match. again, if you go back up, we See how she was stylized in the first rendition of the prophecy, and this doesn't look like that at all. she's...Smaller. her hair is neater. only curling at the very ends. her waist is cut off so that it could be the tail of her jacket, but it could also be a dress.
and she's holding!!!!! a sword!!!!!!!!!!
kris's weapon!!
(with!!!!! a heart. the soul. in her. exactly where it is with kris. urging her forward. that...that Cannot just be a stylization of love. this game? no, that is On Purpose.)
but noelle can't equip swords you say. AND TO THAT I SAY NAY
Tumblr media
LOOK AT THIS SHIT
she CAN equip swords, a sword, and most likely Will in the Future. and i meaann. its a prophecy it knows all about the Future. this, in my opinion, is the most damning evidence. anyways. am i making a big thing of an obvious conclusion? Maybe. maybe i am stupit. but, having a solid List like this, to really Confirm it?? thaaaats something to me. I haven't gotten to the chapter three and four weird route yet, but i'm really excited to because of all of this. (...is the weird route...the True route?) (stay tuned for. The Next Few Years to find out...!)

Where is Nero during the events of ATWQ? (NCT)
A Very Furtive Detail that super uber-fans (like yours truly) of the Netflix series would have picked up on is that Vice Principal Nero actually has a surname - Feint.
Where, you ask, is this in the show? Pause at exactly the right moment in Part 2 of The Austere Academy - where Nero compliments Sunny on her secretarial work ("She edited my résumé...") - and you'll find that the surname on his résumé is, in fact, Feint.
We know, as Snicketeers, that Feint is also the surname of Ellington, the character Lemony depicts as the 'femme fatale' of ATWQ...
...but how does this tie in? What links are we missing?
Let's try to plug the gaps; using what we know, we can try and piece [a version of] the story together.
What do we know already?
1. Lemony knows Ellington Feint, and her father, Armstrong.
2. Both Ellington and Armstrong Feint liked music.
3. Lemony also knows Nero's surname to be Feint, likely from the Baudelaires' entry in 'An Incomplete History'.
4. Nero is very proud of his family history ("a generous grant from our founder, Sir Barrymore Feint").
5. Nero is hyper-focused on his "career as a violinist", and regards very very little else as important.
Given the above to be true, my theory is as follows:
During the events of ATWQ, Ellington had a brother that she never spoke of around Lemony - Nero. Why? Likely because he was still a small child (≈ 5) when Lemony was in Stain'd-by-the-Sea and Ellington was going on missions with him and such. She didn't want any harm to come to him, so she figured out that she had to keep his existence secret. This meant Ellington had to (secretly) risk her brother's life to help Lemony with his various tasks in SBTS and this is where it all went to pieces:
Lemony murdered their father, Armstrong Feint, aka Hangfire.
I think it then played out like this:
1. Ellington realised that she'd have to tell her little brother that their father was dead. She knew that Nero would blame her and grow to hate her for this, so she lashed out at Lemony.
2. Ellington was then jailed for her crimes, leaving Nero alone at home, an orphan. Because Stain'd-by-the-Sea is such a deserted town, no-one came for Nero. He was home alone until Ellington returned from "serving her jail sentence" (escaping with Kit's skeleton key).
3. Whilst waiting for Ellington to come back, Nero was isolated and effectively drove himself mad, with his hatred for his sister combined with his grief over the loss of his father.
4. Over the period of Ellington's "jail sentence" (i.e. the time taken to hatch a plan to escape with the skeleton key), Nero stumbled upon the family history of music, before trying to console/distract himself with the power of music, trying to play the violin, trying to live up to his well-respected ancestors - but no-one has ever been around to correct his... many, many, many, many mistakes.
This explains why he hates any and all orphans, shoving them all in a tin shack, and why he can't play the violin to save his life.
Argument: ATWQ is a book series; how can you include it as part of a Netflix Canon Theory? Counterargument: ATWQ is featured in the series (TCC: "These files contain a report of the tragic events which occurred during my apprenticeship at Stain'd-by-the-Sea, which had to wait until now to be told, due to respect for surviving parties and copyright law").
Dark, even for the Snicketverse,
~ Th3r3534rch1ngr4ph, Unfortunate Theorist/Snicketologist
EDIT: Thanks to @ven10's post, https://www.tumblr.com/ven10/707742256069754880/neros-last-name-is-feint-could-he-be-a?source=share, I have been reminded that Nero never graduated middle school - maybe this is the reason...

Blood Types in Tokyo Debunker: Why it Matters (or Why it Doesn't)
Blood types are basically the older version of MBTI in Korea and Japan. Each blood type is supposed to more or less have a specific set of traits that define your personality. OFC this isn't true, but it's incredibly high popularity in KOR/JP is the reason we get character blood types at all. Anyways I went scouring google.jp for a compilation of what seemed like the most popular stereotypes and listed them by ghouls. Not sure if I accidentally spoiled anything (I can say it's pretty much nothing from EP 15) so proceed at your own risk. xo i hope you all find it interesting
A-Type: Lucas, Alan, Romeo, Ritsu, Subaru, Rui, Yuri
Meticulous, serious and earnest. Introverted, creative perfectionists. Patient and modest, responsible and organized. Determined and reliable, prudent with money, sincere. Very polite. Detail-heavy.
Nervous, stubborn, and neurotic. Negative and sometimes mentally weak. Loves cleanliness to a freakish extent. Prioritizes appearance over true feelings. Overly considerate towards others, so acts according to expectations instead of true feelings. Judgemental. Very sensitive.
Typically assigned to characters that are calm and analytical in some way, or have a certain specialty.
Lucas: Strongly A-type but seems to lack the stereotyped nervousness. Fits many of the 'meticulous and polite' traits to a T. Very determined, prudent, etc. Judgemental of others and holds them up to the same standards as himself. Could he be considered mentally weak, since he's easily baited and charges ahead so often?
Alan: Very much A-type in his positive traits. I don't know if he's negative, but he doesn't really seem like the positive type, does he… Definitely overly considerate sometimes. Not very nervous, but probably a little neurotic and definitely stubborn.
Romeo: Well, if you remove the patience and modesty and take out being polite… Definitely the neurotic, nervous type. Not considerate towards others, but values his appearances more than anything. Deeply judgemental and obsessed with cleanliness. He seems sincere in his own way.
Ritsu: Not very modest or patient or polite, either. Maybe it's just a Sinostra Type-A thing? Not very mentally strong, since he's easily thrown off by small insults. Definitely detailed, meticulous, and responsible. Seems to share/lack the same traits as Romeo, but expresses them differently.
Subaru: The mentally-weak type A stereotype to the max. Like Lucas, he fits this type to a T, but worse. He never gives up on the self-deprecating worldview no matter what you tell him, so maybe he's surprisingly stubborn in his own way? He judges himself heavily, but I don't know how he judges others…
Rui: A bit of a surprise, since he doesn't have any seriousness, or modesty. But he definitely seems like the type to prioritize his appearance over his true feelings, and maybe that's also an over-consideration of others… Definitely patient and responsible. Is he sincere..? Probably more than he personally wants.
Yuri: Mental-weakness to the max! Even more neurotic, and way more judgemental, but lacks Subaru's polite interpretation of this blood type… He's definitely meticulous and very earnest when it comes to his research, though. Doesn't act according to expectations over his true feelings very often, but you can kind of tell that going against the grain makes his mental state worse.
B-Type: Jin, Kaito, Sho, Haku, Jiro
Eccentric that goes at their own pace. Creative, unpredictable, and optimistic. Passionate, assertive about what you love. Thoughtful quick-thinkers. Relaxed and adventurous, cheerful. Active rather than passive.
Uncooperative, self-centered, irresponsible, intolerant, lone-wolf. Moody and careless. Easily bored, closed-off, too-blunt honesty, inconsiderate. Contrarian.
Seems popular with characters that are very loud and very goofy. Generally unserious types with a surprisingly thoughtful side.
Jin: He's pretty firmly stuck in the "negative" B-type stereotype zone. I don't think I've ever seen this man even close to optimistic, cheerful, or actively pursuing a passion. But we did hear he used to be the perfect captain before the clash, so maybe he had a very positive B-type stereotype personality before? A passionate and assertive person who had their passion crushed could become like Jin, right?
Kaito: I don't know about lone-wolfing or having any blunt honesty, but he definitely seems like he fits the other B-type traits really well. Since he feels so inexperienced, he really ends up going at his own pace compared to other ghouls, doesn't he? He's at default relaxed and very cheerful. A thoughtful person who balances out Lucas's judgemental side. His cowardice encompasses many of his negative traits. And he's very assertive about his desire for a girlfriend, at least? There's a certain unpredictability to him: Is he going to chicken out this time? Or will he find enough courage to fight back?
Sho: If you remove the love and light from the description, you'll pretty much get Sho. Optimism and cheer aside, he definitely has a lot of passion for cooking. Maybe not entirely irresponsible, but definitely not the most considerate guy on the block. Hating boredom feels like Leo's thing, but they hang out so much that I don't doubt he hates it either. Totally refuses to get swept up in anyone's (emotional) pace, which is probably part of the reason why he gets on so well with Leo. He seems to want to lone-wolf, but ends up caring for people anyways...
Haku: Surprise! I thought he was type A. But type B fits his easiest-answer philosophy really well. Honestly, I thought Rui would be a B and Haku would be an A… But Rui does have a certain sincerity to him that Haku tends to bypass, right? Maybe Haku distances himself naturally, while Rui is forced into it. He doesn't seem super proactive... Although he does take charge of smaller situations very often, now that I think about it! Super thoughtful, and good at thinking on his feet. He's the one they sent after Taiga, after all... He's really contrarian if you consider the fact that he's switched houses once for every year of Darkwick. Somewhat has the air of "someone who hasn't discovered their passion yet." Jiro: He's a definite match for thoughtful-quick thinker. Maybe he was more of the cheerful and adventurous type before he died and was revived? It doesn't seem like he has a specific passion, but that can largely be attributed to his memory loss. And he did seem interested in learning more. The Clash really messed with him...
AB-Type: Leo, Haru
Dual-faced, mysterious, complex. In-control, high charisma, dependable, ambitious. Adaptable, rational, calm diplomat. Intelligent. Has good senses and reads other people well. Gets things done.
Cold-hearted, indecisive, unstable, irresponsible, forgetful. Critical to others, lacks humility, and is either a genius or a psycho. Make poor teachers. Moody, bad at close relationships.
Popular with slightly deranged or offbeat characters that tend to go entirely off the rails to complete a goal.
Leo: 100% Textbook AB, right? Probably the both the psycho and the genius. Fits the definition so well that I have no notes.
Haru: A super surprising designation at first, but I thought about it and it makes sense. He's pretty charismatic, gets a LOT of things done, and super ambitious. Mysterious by way of having never mentioned anything about his past before. We only learn about him from third-hand conversations... He's definitely got a good sense for a bad situation. I can't tell if he's stable or unstable. He seems to lack the cold-hearted, crtical, irresponsible negative stereotypes. Makes a good trainer, but that's not really being a teacher necessarily... Maybe this was also a personality switch from the Clash? I believe he was from Ultio, by the way.
O-Type: Tohma, Ren, Taiga, Zenji
Rough, easygoing, laid-back. Resilient, independent, and loyal. Self-confident, extroverted, and relies on intuition. Very passionate, likes peace. Don't care about small things. Outgoing and bold. Values honesty and dislikes liars. De-facto leaders with good memory and charisma. Devoted to people they love. At their best when people are relying on them. Tolerant of mistakes.
Jealous, rude, cruel, insensitive, unpredictable. Cold, self-centered workaholics. Arrogant, dominating, bossy. Can't control their anger. Can be too enthusiastic and become forceful.
Popular with characters that have a strong desire to take care of others in one way or another. Sometimes has an air of sunshiney innocence.
Tohma: Super O-type. I originally thought he'd be type A, but now that I think about it, you kind of have to be all of those things to boldly put up with Jin's crashouts the way he does… He's a liar himself, though, so i don't know if he values honesty that much. Or maybe because he's a liar, he values honesty more? Not sure. A de-facto leader that stepped up when Jin broke down. He's allegedly a surprisingly easygoing person. He's not rough or angry in the current depiction, but since he's ex-Vagastrom, maybe it represents his original personality. He does have a certain arrogance, doesn't he?
Ren: Well, if you remove the love and light from the description, you get Ren… I don't know about being rough or resilient or extroverted or workaholic-ing or having any charisma at all, but otherwise it fits him, right..? He's 100% the type that's at his best when relied on, even if he doesn't want to. The type to unwillingly come in clutch at the very last minute. He's definitely devoted when he gets attached, given the way he was running around all of Jabberwock for Calamari's sake. He's got a lot of negative O-type stereotypes. Not necessarily bossy, but tends to complain a lot when things don't go his way... It seems like he's bad at anger management.
Taiga: He's like if you took every O-type trait (minus liking peace and workaholicing) and dialed it up to 100!!! A lot of his presentation depends on his mood at the moment, so sometimes he's got a lot of positive traits, like being easygoing, independent, and super duper loyal. He really hates liars, especially after the mysterious traitor. Like Ren, he shines when people are truly relying on him. He must have some type of charisma for his students to follow him so diligently... But when he's mad, he's pretty much all of the negative O-type stereotypes, and his anger's got a gun.
Zenji: He seemed like a B-type at first glance, since that's considered the "creative" type, but he doesn't have any of the negative traits, does he? O-type fits him way better. Since he's an artist who wants to show off his work and shine, he's a strong combination of that outgoing and bold version of the type-O personalities. He's definitely devoted to his brother and also honestly a lot of people, and he seems to value integrity a lot. He's not particularly cruel, angry, or cold, but he does seem to be made jealous easily, at least about his art… Maybe it's not anger, but he seems to have trouble controlling his emotions in general. And you have to be resilient to withstand being a ghost, right? A little self-centered, or at least super prideful of his work. He's not insensitive, but he seems to have a hard time predicting people's responses to him.
Unknown: Edward, Towa, Lyca
lol
these are just predictions
Edward: Right now, I'd probably call him an AB type, but he's been alive for so long that his personality is a little warped. Being "the strongest vampire" could be considered being a genius? Towa: B-type, maybe? Eccentric, and not easily swayed by a situation unless he has personal investment in it. When he's not with Haru or MC, he's really not the most cooperative... Lyca: It's really hard to say, since he's in such a different setting than what would be considered "natural" to him. But I would guess O-type. You have to be resilient to put up with that situation. MC: Little miss so surprised... A-type? The closest character parallel seems to be if Subaru was less self-deprecating. Definitely overly considerate and acting as expected of her, if you consider how much she puts up with in Darkwick... Here's some random facts:
Sinostra has the most A-types (grand total of 2). Probably because you need two high-strung people to balance out Taiga.
Frostheim has the most B-types (2). That's a little surprising for such an uptight house... Or maybe you have to be that way to successfully survive that same uptightedness.
AB only has 2 members, so I can't really comment. That said, thinking that "Haru has the same personality as Leo" is really strange, isn't it?
O-type is evenly spread across Sinostra, Hotarubi, Frostheim (ex-Vagastrom), and Jabberwock (1 each).

I don’t think I have a lot of super fanservicey characters, so this is Allen (named for a lemon cultivar). He’s a handsome jerk, and we love him for it.
I deliberately gave him a PASWGish vibe to him. His eye shape is especially modeled directly after the New Gen angel brothers.
Someone’s look through the “Lemon” tag, see this, and be very confused/disappointed when they don’t realize that it’s referring to his color.

Over the Garden Wall is SUCH a fascinating show to me for a myriad of reasons. But one of the things that stuck with me was the symbolism of the Woodsman and his lantern. TW for discussions on grief and unhealthy coping mechanisms (that I might get wrong, just as a warning).
I'm sure this has been said before, but to me it's just such a fascinating representation of how we unintentionally keep despair alive by clinging to our overwhelming grief of those we lost. Maybe I'm misinterpreting something or looking too deeply into it, but it's just. The lantern that the Woodsman keeps lighting in the hopes that his daughter's soul will be kept alive through it is, in actuality, keeping the Beast alive. And in a similar way I've read tales and actually studied grief theories about how people keep the memory of their loved one alive; at first, it's a good thing, and it can take however long or short you need to it be since grief seems to be something that generally never really goes away.
But there can come a point where all you live for is the dead, which is what the Woodsman was doing in laboring day and night to keep the lantern alive. And in doing so, you start to poison yourself and, rather than keeping the person you lost in living memory, you start to keep alive the despair and darkness. You start to keep alive the Beast rather than the soul of your daughter, in other words. Sometimes, it's intentional, though. "If I let go of this despair and anguish of mine, doesn't that mean I'll forever lose that person I loved?" And sometimes, it's unintentional.
The conclusion of it is that you have to let them go...you have to let that despair (not grief, but the poisonous and hopeless grief) go. Maybe, like Wirt did, through unflinching practicality and sheer knowledge rather than emotion. Or something else. But maybe, then, you'll find that when the lantern of your despair is gone, it'll be dark at first but you'll slowly start to see a grander light. And maybe, you'll find that your daughter is still alive anyway, in the light rather than in the darkness.

🍋 The Lemon Drop Theory: A Tactical Sweet Disguise
A curious inquiry sparked by how often 'lemon drops' seem to come up—frequent enough to make one wonder if there’s more to the sweet than meets the tongue.
It all starts with a fact that deserves more side-eye than it receives: Albus Dumbledore really loved offering lemon drops. As in, constantly. It’s his password, his go-to hospitality item, and apparently his personality in confection form.
But why? Why lemon drops? And why does he offer them in moments of psychological warfare disguised as gentle conversation?
Tumblr media
As someone who believes no sugar cube is ever truly innocent in a magical world, I present:
🍋 Theory 1: Veritaserum-Lite (Emotional Disarmament Candy)
Lemon drops are sharp, acidic, and jarringly sweet. They jolt the tongue like they’ve got opinions. What better way to disarm someone than by giving them a flavour that says, "you weren’t ready, darling, and that’s exactly the point"? Emotional defence? Consider it cracked. Sugar-coated, of course.
🍋 Theory 2: Soft Power, Pleasantly Presented
"Would you care for a lemon drop?" Translation: "I’m about to drop a life-altering revelation into your lap, but I’ll cushion it with citrus."
It’s not hospitality. It’s stagecraft. Dumbledore doesn’t offer sweets—he performs them. It’s a moment, a prop, a cue in the script. You think you’re chatting with a quirky old man who likes sherbets, but really, you’ve just stepped into a monologue.
It’s all smoke, sparkle, and a bit of sugar. And it works.
🍋 Theory 3: A Dash of Potion, Perhaps?
I'm not saying he definitely microdoses lemon drops with Calming Draughts or Legilimency triggers, but… I'm also not saying he doesn’t.
Given his unnerving perceptiveness, one might wonder whether Dumbledore dabbled in Legilimency. What if the lemon drop is the signal? The opening of the door, so to speak? You accept the sweet, your mind softens, and then—bam—he’s reading the surface of your thoughts with a smile and a twinkle.
🍋 Theory 4: The Eccentric Armour
In a world of hexes, curses, and political assassination, Dumbledore’s weapon of choice is… citrus sugar? No. It’s imagery.
He wears eccentricity like armour. Lemon drops are part of the costume: the doddery genius with a sweet tooth who just happens to outmanoeuvre everyone politically.
It’s easier to underestimate a man who smells of sugar than one who smells of sulphur.
And yes, canon offers us breadcrumbs—lemon-scented, at least the ones I can remember without needing a Pensieve
Philosopher’s Stone (Chapter 1): McGonagall is appalled by the plan to leave Harry with the Dursleys. Dumbledore deflects the tension with a Muggle sweet. She refuses.
Various mentions: Lemon drops are his office password during Harry’s early years, reinforcing the motif of access granted through sugar.
Perhaps lemon drops are more than sweets. Perhaps they’re rituals. A theatrical flourish before revelations, confessions, and persuasion. A bit of citrus to say: "You’re safe. I’m odd. Let’s talk."
Or maybe—just maybe—they’re traps pretending to come in wrappers they never actually had.
Would you like one?
