𝐢'𝐦 𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤
listen. i'm still so convinced it's Tommy up on that crane in 807 that my brain keeps writing scenes 😂😂😂😂 so have this:
"Buck, you need to-"
He can't hear Bobby's words as he races up the ladder, panic rising faster and faster in his chest.
"Hey no no no no no!" He yells, throwing himself over the side. His hands grasp tight around Tommy's. "Stop stop stop! Please!" The words are coming out of him in sobs, but large hands grip around his wrists and a moment later, the older man tilts his head up and his eyes lock with Evan's.
"Ev-..." He cuts himself off, his voice wobbly and raspy from his current predicament.
"Just stop," Evan replies, snuffling as tears run down his face. "Stop moving, stop- just stop."
"Ok," Tommy replies, his voice weary as his fingers tighten around Evan's wrists that much more. The blonde glances up toward Chimney on the opposite crane. He's still working to get the harness unstuck, but apparently only having mild success with it.
"My legs are numb," Tommy states, blinking slowly. Chim looks up at them.
"Fuck this. I'm going to cut him down. The 217 can get the line fixed," Chimney states before heading back down the ladder in quick succession. "I need bolt cutters!"
"Evan," Tommy rasps. His hands are sweaty now, hanging onto the other man's arms.
"No," Evan replies, his voice tinged with anger now. "You have to hang on."
"You have to let go," Tommy counters to him, his voice exhausted. "Evan-" His grip slips on Evan's arm, and beneath them there's scrambling to get the inflatable placed properly. He glances over at the other crane as Chimney finishes reascending it.
"I can't," Evan replies, his own voice strained as he grips onto Tommy's arm with both hands now. "Fuck, Tommy, I can't."
"Why not," he asks wearily.
"Because!" Evan yells at him. Several tears fall off his face in quick succession, one landing on Tommy's own face as it continues its descent downward.
Somehow, even from beneath him, even with most of his blood volume hanging out in the lower half of his body with no way to make it circulate properly, Tommy manages to give him that look, the one that says he's really paying attention.
"Evan." He says it like it's Evan who needs to be talked off the ledge, like he's the one hanging in the middle of the air being held up by a crane.
"You don't get to give up now," Evan growls at him. "You already did that to me once this week."
"Are we really talking about this now," Tommy asks him. His fingers slip a few millimeters, but Evan curls his hand tight under Tommy's elbow, trying to pull him up.
"Seems as good a time as any," he replies. A humorless laugh slips out of him.
"I've almost got it," Chimney calls from the other crane.
Evan gulps. "It was too much, too fast," he states. "Asking you to move in. I s-said things that made it sound like I wasn't invested-.."
"It's fine," Tommy replies, sounding mildly exasperated.
"No its not," Evan argues, squeezing tighter on Tommy's arm. "it's not. Because it made me sound like I was asking you to move in because it's the easy option, like I wanted you to stay without any consideration of what your life looks like outside of what we are. Or were."
Tommy stares up at him, still blinking slow and long. Evan pulls his arm up inches higher, trying to take more of the weight off of his lower body.
"But it's not that," he says, sniffling again. "I lept before thinking, a-and made it into a thing that it wasn't and has never been." He sniffles again. "I didn't ask you to move in because I wanted to be impulsive. I said it because I want a life with you, a-and I was afraid to own that and what that means for me." He pauses and gulps, lets out a breath. "I was so pissed at you for breaking up with me, a-and you were doing the same thing I did. You were protecting yourself." Tommy stares up at him, eyebrows quirked slightly in confusion.
"I thought if I didn't say it, it was safer, that we-..." He shakes his head at himself as he feels the tension pulling Tommy back toward Chimney starting to wane as the bolt cutters work through the metal. "But I also want the whole damn thing with you. I'm not in it because it's easy, or because you were the first man to kiss me. I'm in it because I'm in love with you."
Tommy stares up at him still, giving him that damn look again, and the slack goes looser, his weight becoming even heavier on Evan's arms.
"I love you," he repeats. "I love you so damn much."
Tommy grants him a weary smile. "I love you too, Evan."
His weight falls entirely on Evan then, and both of their arms jerk out straight, Evan leaned roughly over the crane as he tries to keep holding on.
"Evan, let go," Tommy tells him.
"Please," Evan begs him, and he's not even entirely sure what it is he's begging for. "Tommy-.."
"I love you too," he repeats. "But you have to let go."
Evan gulps, forces a breath in, forces his tunnel vision to open up, and realizes the inflatable is ready and will catch Tommy. "I'll meet you at the bottom."
"Sounds good," Tommy rasps. And then, against everything that tells him he should, Evan lets go, watching as Tommy drops the 30 feet onto the inflatable crash pad. As soon as his body hits, Evan is already double-timing his way down the ladder. He makes it down in what he's sure is record time, running past everyone else to get to Tommy's side. Hen already has him on a stretcher, attached to a dozen leads and assessing his legs.
"Risk of compartment syndrome," she states. "Likely dislocation of the left hip. He needs x-rays and we need to go."
"I'm going with," Evan announces, refusing to hear reason to any other option. His hand is tight in Tommy's as soon as he's next to him, his other hand combing down the other man's hair as he stares down into those blue eyes. They're already brighter from his circulation picking back up. "I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you."
"Good lord just kiss the man already," Gerrard calls from the back of the crowd. Evan whips his head around and Tommy leans up off he gurney, both of them giving the old grump a shocked expression.
"What?" He asks. He has that grumpy look on his face once more, like he still thinks that their lifestyle is beneath him (at the very least). "We all know it's what you're thinking. I just said it."
Evan turns back toward Tommy, and the blue eyes meet.
"My boyfriend's sister once said there better ways to get someone's attention than this," Tommy says. Evan lets out a laugh, color flushing through his cheeks at the dignification of boyfriend. He curls two fingers under Tommy's chin and kisses him, both of them ignorant of the whooping and hollering happening around them.
"Like that," he whispers when they finally part, pressing his forehead into Tommy's. Tommy has a hand fisted around Evan's shirt, keeping him close.
"Yeah, that works," he whispers back. "I love you, too, Evan. I love you, too."

What I think is another example of the imbalance in Eddie and Buck's friendship is when Buck goes over to Eddie's house after the lightning strike. I am reevaluating what I once thought was a nice moment of Buck being able to decompress in peace.
Some have previously headcannoned that Eddie knew Buck wouldn't want to be bothered, and to that I now say bullshit. He was not actively checking on Buck, and that is why he was at his house that night.
If he truly knew Buck would be bothered by all the company, he could've done so much more. Like he could've gone over to Buck's apartment and just been there to answer the door and shoo people away. Or he could've called Buck to ask him to hang out sooner and let him hide out at Eddie's place.
*The 118 was definitely off because Hen checked up on him, and Maddie sent Julie Rosen and some of the other crew over to check on Buck. So Eddie could've easily rearranged some plans or errands. Or even if he couldn't do that, leaving Buck alone at his place probably would've been even better.
It's pissing me off now because I'm realizing it did not take any effort on Eddie's part, and yet he looks like the good friend because he was the person Buck ran to. And a part of me wonders if Buck ran to him because subconsciously he knew that Eddie wouldn't really bother him.
Even their conversation, which seemed to help Buck process things a little, feels unremarkable now. Literally anyone could've had that same conversation with him, and it would've had the same weight.

As much as I ADORE bucktommy, and sometimes I think “yea they could be cannon endgame I would love that!”, every I get a buddie edit on tiktok im just HIT with the amount of history Buck and Eddie share and how they really were written to be coded as lovers and I will probably be devastated if nothing ever comes from all the buildup

My cousin is watching 911 and I told her about buddie and she's only at the episode where Maddie says "so does this boy crush on Eddie mean you're finally ready to move on from Abby?" And she was like idk he just brushed it off maybe it's just a fan thing, and I'm like well first of all, the fans are correct. But 2. Oh honey you've got a big storm coming

also filled out this character sheet for him!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first concept of my rook!! his name is faolan and he's a dalish crow :))
backstory and lore tidbits under the cut bc it's alot 👇
fal was part of a dalish clan roaming northeastern thedas, and had been first to the keeper since his magic manifested (around 8 yrs old). he was quite troublesome, impatient, and had a temper. one day when he was 15, he stormed off in a fit of anger mid-lesson with the keeper, disappearing into the forest on his own for several hours until he'd calmed down. when he came back, his clan were all dead, and whoever was responsible was long gone.
after pulling himself together, he packed his things and left in search of another clan. there was one nearby, he knew, but when he reached them, they refused to take him in; they already had too many mages, they said. faolan knew this wasn't true, and instead suspected that his well-known poor character was the reason he was turned away, but for once he said nothing and just turned away. it was time for a different path, it seemed.
his journey took him to the nearby city of treviso, where upon learning of the antivan crows he practically begged to be let in. after all that happened, all he wanted was to kill, and to find whoever murdered his clan, and kill them too. after some time and trials, he was accepted in, and his training began.
after officially killing his first mark at 18, he paid another visit to the nearby dalish clan, for nothing else but to ask for his vallaslin. he wasn't a first anymore, but he had become a hunter, in a way, and thought he'd earned his markings. the clan's keeper begrudgingly agreed, and faolan got his vallaslin: the twisted branches which symbolised elgar'nan, the god of vengeance, for that is the path he'd taken when they'd turned him away.
over the next few years, the antivan crows began to receive more and more contracts on members of the venatori. during this time, faolan discovered that they were behind the murder of his clan: they had been searching for information on elven lore, and had chosen the violent path with his clan. fal was lucky enough to swipe a few contracts on the specific members that were involved and kill them personally; but when it was all over, he felt nothing. it seemed that getting vengeance wasn't as gratifying as he thought it'd be. in the end, his clan were still dead, they weren't coming back, nothing was going to be like it used to be... he had a new life now, one filled with plots and murder, and he really hadn't been in the headspace to process how permanent that'd be.
so that's faolan and where he is now. he's about 25 now and he feels kinda stuck in life, his past is still weighing on him and he's constantly just trying to distract himself with work. i think the solas job & then the forming of the veilguard is the first time that things start to feel a little different for him? like he's actually doing something important for once... and he finally gets friends yay :)
some tidbits:
as a kid he got into fights all the time. ALL the time. this continued on until he got into the crows and started losing
^^ he never used magic while fighting btw. that's cheating.
personality wise nowadays he's more guarded and doesn't really like to socialise, it's not that he's "socially awkward" it's just that he'd rather keep to himself. i think the veilguard is the first time he kinda comes out of his shell so to speak
that being said he will still absolutely kick your ass if provoked.
he's the kind of guy you see at the bar sitting at a solo table in the corner staring at everybody who comes in
his eyes both used to be that goldenish colour; his left eye turned silver when his magic manifested
doesn't know any healing magic. he hasn't bothered to use it since his clan died, and has forgotten how to do it
the tips of his ears get hot when someone casts magic nearby
takes shots at veilguard team meetings
hates any and all weather, honestly how he managed to survive 15 years in a dalish clan is beyond me
can be very charming and really good at flirting when he wants to be, but is an absolute disaster when it comes to showing genuine affection
has whatever the deity equivalent of daddy issues is with elgar'nan
okay i'm all done but on a related note for that last point here's a lazy meme as a gift for scrolling this far:

The thing about the rain is that yes, they've been setting up crazy symbolism and parallels since the start of s7. Obviously the sun is a huge motif for them, along with the Abby/Buck walking away parallel.
BUT the one that has been eating at me all day is The Rain: yes its a romcom icon for sure. But the rain is a symbol of major moments of buddie literally being separated, ie the fact that they are literally separated by 40 ft of mud during the well scene, and when they are separated by life and death in the lightning strike scene. We are getting that again because Eddie is choosing to leave. He's not leaving Buck, he's going to Chris, but physically he is walking away from Buck, who is the poster boy for abandonment issues. So it’s not just space that has separated them, it’s also Chris (one of the fundamental things that brought them together in the first place, more on that later) and their own actions.
One of the big things in the well and lightning arcs is that they have to fight to live. Eddie has to make the decision to fight for his family. To fight to come home to Buck and Christopher. And the same is true of the lightning arc. Buck makes the decision to fight to live. To escape from the coma dream. To come back to the real world. I think we will see this again with both of them. Eddie has to fight to bring Chris home and to come back to Buck. I think Buck is going to have to fight for Eddie and Chris too.

So, that looks like Callum and Stella? Waiting outside the frozen ship? (Which, if the clip is actual show dialogue, could be him yapping to Stella while waiting for Rayla to get back, that does track with Callum’s yappiness)
Tumblr media
And it fits with the screenshot from earlier with them maybe inside the ship, Stella is with Callum.
So why did Rayla go in alone? I know, I know, she does be doing that kinda thing.
Could be it’s a small opening to get in, or one hard to get to, or someone needs to keep watch, but my bet is the ship is trapped. Rayla has the rogue skill points, Callum is a clumsy boy you don’t want near traps, plus, Avatar reference with booby-trapped frozen ship (I forgot this, thanks @dinochickrox)
So Rayla goes in alone to search the frozen ship, Callum waits outside, then a booby trap goes off and sets the ship on fire and he goes in after her? Or she takes too long and he goes in after her and he sets off the booby trap? Either way, they’re trapped in a quickly thawing frozen ship, things are heating up?!
I had a theory waaaay back, that their big romantic reunion would be on a boat, because of parallels to romantic moments throughout the seasons: the rowboat/5 questions in S1, the lightning strike on Villads’ ship in S2 and the Ambler in S3 (camels are called ships of the desert).
I’d appreciate it if Callum brought the frozen ship metaphor back up as the ship catches fire:
Callum: Forget what I said! This ship is on FIRE!

bear with me for a moment im going all invisible string theory:
1. so you're telling me we had this dialogue at the beginning of the episode with buck comparing the cruise rescue (subconsciously actually meeting tommy and tommy risking everything for the 118 aka his family) to being struck by lightning and being dead for 3m17s
2. to then have the kiss happening exactly at 3m18s into the apartment scene at the end of the episode aka he was kissed at the 18th second the same second he was brought back to life??
3. not in this episode but another lightning strike parallel when he's wheeled into the hospital and they stop in the ER that's the moment they get a pulse but also the scene where buck kisses tommy in 7x06 after he shows up even tho he fought a fire for the last dozen+ hours cause he promised to buck he would make it!!

The parallel between Buck immediately being able to fall asleep on Eddie’s couch with lights on and noises abound bc it was the one place where he felt comfortable after the lightning strike (even more so than his own home) vs him only being able to sleep there by having to distract himself with another warm body and making the place borderline unrecognizable in the dark once Eddie’s gone…. Interesting….

#1021.? - “Raging Bolt” is an enigmatic Pokemon theorized by leading researchers to either be an ancient precursor of Raikou or even a parallel version of Raikou from another timeline; however, the true origin of this Pokemon remains unknown. A wild and powerful creature, Raging Bolt is said to incinerate everything around it by cloaking the skies with dark clouds before employing its elongated neck to deliver devastating lightning strikes upon its targets. If certain researchers are to be believed, it is possible that over a long period of time, Raging Bolt evolved as a species to become the smaller and more nimble Raikou that is known as Legend in modern times. As the species develops a shorter neck and tighter gait, they become faster and more physical powerful with the trade-off of less-intense lightning and other special attacks. Their mere roar splits the air like crashing thunder.
Named: “Raging Bolt” - - ? - - Raikou
