Reading 30 Strales and omg Blade smelling like citrus sounds amazing. I've been playing for about 3 weeks and after fulling catching up on the trailblazer quests I was like dang blade kills people a lot right, he probably smells like blood 24/7 that's so gross. All this to say... reject logic, I agree that blade smells like citrus. Do you have thoughts on what any of the others would smell like?
Tumblr media
what the hsr men smell like
ft. blade, gepard, jing yuan, dan heng, luocha, and welt
cw!: mentions of blood, no pronouns for reader mentioned, implied relationship, cuddling, swearing, super fluffy :)
note - thank you so much for reaching out to me omg 🥺 i reject logic too so that's how the whole citrus thing came to be ajsjdk. also i know absolutely nothing about colognes/fragrances so i'm sorry if i mess some of these up ;-; hope you're having a great day/night though pookie <3
and as always, thank you for reading :)
˗ˏˋ ★ ˊˎ˗
blade
~ as mentioned above, def smells like citrus and bergamot.
~ sometimes you can catch a little metallic-y whiff of (cough cough) def not blood (cough cough), but it never lasts for long - when he hugs you, the smell of oranges invades your senses like a light summer breeze~
~ and don't get me started on how obsessed he is w this scent. if he stays somewhere for even 1-2 days, you know he's bringing along his 3 freakin citrus-scented candles!!
~ please run your fingers thru his hair when you're hanging out or cuddling. please. he will melt from headpats and your fingers will smell like his shampoo for the rest of the day, and since you love the scent of gentle lime, why not?
˗ˏˋ ★ ˊˎ˗
gepard
~ omg this man!! he's totally giving cashmere + hot cocoa for some reason??? he doesn't really use cologne/fragrances and prefers his natural scent, but does use cashmere and vanilla body wash + shampoo.
~ like sure, after a busy day at work or training he'll kinda smell like sweat but will immediately take a shower when he gets home. he hates being sweaty and thinks it's icky if he does for too long-
~ and when you snuggle up to him for cuddle time on a day off, you just wanna stay there forever bc his scent envelops you like a blanket on freezing winter nights <3
~ overall very comforting and warm, just like Gepard himself!! (cries in human heater vibes)
˗ˏˋ ★ ˊˎ˗
jing yuan
~ musk + cinnamon + a little bit of spice, and def uses cologne.
~ actually wants to smell nice and puts in the effort!! changes his sheets, washes his clothes, showers every day (but washes his hair every 3 days or so bc haircare)
~ speaking of haircare, this man's big on it. most of his haircare products smell like the aforementioned musk and cinnamon, but he uses this one cream that smells like cloves and you freakin adore it. sometimes you borrow it so that whenever you're going out and he's busy with his big boy general duties, it feels like he's with u <3
~ and ughhhh his bedroom smells like him so whenever you guys have le cuddle time you fall asleep almost immediately. ofc he eventually does too (bc he loves how u smell too pookie, don't tell him i said that though he would kill me aksjskd) and you're so warm and soft and how could he not fall asleep??
˗ˏˋ ★ ˊˎ˗
dan heng
~ very ocean-y (salty?), small hints of eucalyptus and cypress as well. when he uses cologne he uses very, very little, but he actually has 2 separate colognes, one for the ocean-y cypress, and the other for the eucalyptus
~ i feel like this is kinda a bold statement but he uses bath bombs. like he gets a bath bomb that smells like mint, gets in the bathtub w it, and glides his thumbs over its surface bc he likes the texture-
~ he might not be the cleanest man in the universe, but he sure does smell like it!! something about eucalyptus and cypress and mint and a hint of ocean breeze is chillingly refreshing and tbh you kinda dig it :D
~ mornings w dan heng. omfg they are ethereal bc he literally smells angelic??? like a gentle freshness yk and the pillows smell like him too so lazy mornings are def a thing that you guys love sharing <3
˗ˏˋ ★ ˊˎ˗
luocha
~ oooo he's kinda a wild card imo, but personally, i think that he smells like jasmine + honey (not just bc of his idle + technique!! pinky promise)
~ he lowkey smells a little like freshly-cut grass, very light n refreshing. however, jasmine takes center stage, and if you really bury your face in his long-ass hair, you can catch a whiff of chamomile :))
~ super big on herbal teas and honey as well - i hc that he brings a water bottle w him that's just green tea n honey so when you're close to his face (cuddling, hugging, etc) the honey adds this sweetness that blends super well w the aforementioned chamomile + jasmine <3
~ like jing yuan, super involved in haircare!! he does use less products, but you still freakin adore this chamomile shampoo that he uses. avid believer in aromatherapy, prob uses essential oils (not for curing cancer ofc)
˗ˏˋ ★ ˊˎ˗
welt
~ coffee and amberwood!! both are deep and rich scents and he probably uses cologne in very small amounts aksjdks
~ coffee addict and the scent faintly lingers, so the amberwood is really more prominent, but overall i promise he doesn't smell like dust or smth, he's not that old he takes good care of himself :))
~ burns incense in his room bc it helps him relax and concentrate on his drawings, so he does have a little resin smell to him, but you don't mind bc it's actually quite comforting. he once almost caused a fire bc he dropped a lit match onto the carpet but we don't talk about that-
~ loves to hug you so whenever he does, you always feel so cozy and loved and aaaaa ya'll are so cute i can't <3 and since he's pretty tall he sometimes rests his head on top of yours and hugs you from behind like that and you melt immediately bc it's like a blanket!! but smells super nice!!

Tag Game: Scenes I will never forget
Rules: Share 5-10 scenes you can't forget. Not your favourites, the ones that got stuck in your brain for any reason.
tagged by @delesaria-blog and ofc, I'm also going to stick to QL series. I'll also choose the ones I like, and not the ones that stuck in my brain cuz I got ick from them. Also I probably won't be able to find the perfect screenshots so I'll just go with gif vibes :D
Myungha and world glitching in Love for Love's Sake. Because it was so so so so brilliantly emotionally acted and edited and I love-hate the vulnerable feeling when you don't know what's going on with your reality. Even other actors kept talking about the preparation and execution for this scene, and the gradual emotion surge in such a short time is just chef's kiss.
Tumblr media
2. Sky in the final episode of Love in the Air I'm going to try and pick one scene because this episode was full of delicious heavy stuff but what stuck with me was Sky's empty disassociating gaze as he softly asked why Pai was crying. He couldn't care for himself so Prapai had to be the one crying. And then Sky's broken 'Nothing gets better even if I cry' just tore my heart. Again as I rewatched it just this morning.
Tumblr media
3. Alan x Wen scene in Moonlight Chicken We've had this pairing for 5 minutes and we always knew it didn't have happy ending so seeing the stark contrast in the beginning of episode 5 just. Idk. Hurts in perfect way. Moonlight Chicken has way too many good scenes (I should've put the entire Liming x Heart storyline here!)
Tumblr media
4. Hotae x Donghee in Time of Fever I was fortunate (or more like very unfortunate) to watch Time of Fever in cinema before it was streamed online so imagine. I had to sit through THIS scene with all other people pushing all sounds and emotions down when suddenly the tension went off the roof (and then not be able to even yell about this scene with anyone for months?? so cruel). Friends to lovers always just hit extra hard. Bless the cinematography of this and team who put up this lighting.
Tumblr media
5. Flag scene from Not Me Of course, this one is memorable for every BL fan out there. Still, after all these years. It's so influential that I don't need any words. I'd just like to imagine the rebellion and pride celebration that hopefully my own country will see one day again as well. (on the other hand, I also wanted to write about Max from Be My Favorite with his pride celebration scene as well but I have to admit his aphobic commentary scene is the one that's stuck in my brain the most and I still haven't forgiven the overall incredible BMF team for this so he sits in the corner for this)
Tumblr media
6. Friendship turn around in Bad Buddy. This one isn't heavy or serious, I just loved how after PatPran were outed, P'Aof once again played with viewers and the gang of bad engineering guys turned out to be great and loyal friends to Pat, and the gang of do-good architecture kids held grudge for Pran. Turning the expectations and what we know of characters from Episode 1 was a fun experience that made me love all the characters more.
Tumblr media
7. Grey Shelter's realistic melancholy I know this BL probably went over many people's heads because it was very short and 'not satisfying' in a true BL romance sense. But to me, it was fascinating. Two flawed human beings, stuck in the exhausting world, not being vulnerable enough to communicate - not wanting to take a risk for love. Another 'we're almost family and we have to fight romantic feelings', but unlike hopeful vibes under Time of Fever surface, the hope in this one feels very fragile. I was surprised to see such atmosphere in a BL. Also the animated intro perfectly delivers it.
Tumblr media
8. Boston by the end of Only Friends Okay, I wasn't going to include scenes that disappointed me but! BUT! As I rewatch OF right now, there were great scenes (Episode 4 start with Ray crashing down or him making a brilliant scene in a bar, again, I should've put you) but I will never ever agree with how the show treated Boston. Even though I didn't have huge affection for the character throughout the entire series but HEY THE ENDING that's supposed to make us vengeful and joyful made me love him and care about him when no characters did. Haha, take that, Jojo.
Tumblr media
I now have even more great scenes in my mind than I did in the start of this post, but I'm going to stop here. I tried to pick unusual ones. Anyway, that was a lot of fun and I'd love to see everyone else on my dash post about their scenes too*__*

for @dteamomegaverse week! day 1 claiming but it's not technically the process but best i could do between uni and work kicking my ass :') also ofc i'm pushing the drunznoblade agenda >:D
It always amused and excited Dream when he saw his mating marks. On a trip with his mates to find the freshest berries for Niki's cake, he'd stopped by a gently flowing stream to wash some of the sweat from his face. After splashing his skin in the icy cold water, he paused to see his reflection slowly reform in the ripples.
On the right side of his neck, a ring of discolored punctures was still healing from the night a certain wolf hybrid renewed his claim. On the left, a more shallow circle with two particularly deep incisions. That one had taken a bit of convincing. Techno was always so cautious with him, even when Dream was begging to be railed until the sun came up.
He shivered upon feeling along the bites, instantly taken back to the moments each were made.
Just a few nights ago, Punz was idly nuzzling his scent gland when he noticed the mark starting to fade. They'd whined about it like a kid who lost his favorite toy, bottom lip stuck out and ears downcast. His begging face, although he insisted he had no such thing. Dream could never deny such cuteness. (Not to mention his own sadness over noticing it fade.)
They had licked at his neck like he was drawing the boundaries before easily sinking their sharp canine teeth into his flesh. He remained there for a minute, ensuring Dream's body never quite forgot the impression. Then they'd carefully let go, leaving a clean picture of perfect penetrations. Despite how he tried to lap away all the blood, some still spilled on Dream's hoodie and soaked the lime green a deep crimson. Luckily, Punz had plenty of experience getting blood out of clothes.
Techno had been there with him in the prison, had witnessed the aftermath firsthand of an unwanted claiming. Desperate and distressed, all Dream wanted was to replace the wretched mark. Of course, Techno refused.
He held Dream's face, looked him directly in his teary eyes, and said he'd never take advantage of him like that. All Dream did was cry on his shoulder for hours while Techno held him.
At the time, it filled Dream with all manner of self-deprecating thoughts. He convinced himself it was because Techno hated him, disgusted by the idea of claiming a 'ruined' omega. He knew better now. Techno was never the type to push him into anything, taking extra caution to make sure Dream truly reciprocated. In fact, he didn't stake his claim until Dream claimed him first.
Glancing up from his reflection, Punz and Techno stood on the other side of the stream under one of the large spruce trees.
The wolf hybrid was saying something he couldn't quite make out while Techno collected some of the sap bleeding from a hole in the trunk. If Dream squinted, he could see the marks he'd made on his mates. With his normal human teeth, the marks faded quicker than theirs, but that just meant Dream got to mark them more.
"Ya almost done over there, nerd?" Techno called to him, startling the dirty blond.
"Yeah! Coming!" Dream wiped any last bit of dirt from his skin before picking himself up. He hopped over the narrow stream and jogged over to his mates.
"Are you trying to catch hypothermia? You need to dry off or you'll get icicles on cheeks." Punz used their sleeve to catch all the droplets running down Dream's face, a disapproving frown on his lips.
"Okay, okay, Mom. My bad," Dream teased, grinning at him.
They scoffed and rolled their eyes despite the smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "C'mon. We promised Niki we'd be back soon."
"We getting close to the bushes you saw, Techno?" The admin glanced to the piglin hybrid, finding him busy with securing a cloth over the cup of sap in his hand.
"Yeah, just a ways ahead now. We'll just get enough for the cake. Don't worry take away from the wildlife."
The blonds nodded in agreement, following when he started off deeper into the forest. Dream took his place between them, hands naturally intertwining with theirs. He couldn't wait to get back home and enjoy their one year anniversary surrounded by friends, warmth, and, of course, some delicious cake.

love your breakfast posting. i’m about to live somewhere where i will cook for myself for the first time ever ! do you have any advice about learning to cook and plan meals for a uni student with executive function issues (aka not great on the efficient time management front) i love food & cooking but dont yet know how to improv meals with what i have
no ask has ever . Made. Me . Happier. omg . Hi. Yes. My area of expertise!! my area of interest!! OK . This might be quite long so. Read More. Mwah!
OK YAY first of all congratulations on entering this new stage in your life!! This is gonna be soo awesome and cool and maybe sometimes hard but you are gonna grow and become stronger and cooler and more yourself and I am so excited for you!!! Here are my general tips, interspersed with resources and recipes!!! Improv comes with time, and knowing a few basics, and having a reliable store cupboard - we will cover all of this <3
1. A reliable store cupboard is One Billion times better than meal prep. Some people will tell you to meal prep. These people do not care about your happiness. I, however, care about your happiness. Meal prep results in soggy food you don't really want to eat. There are some exceptions for breakfast and lunch (we'll touch on these) but my recommendation is to cook dinner fresh. If you've had a bad enough day that you cannot fathom cooking, wet sad food will Not be the answer. Promise. So how do we cook dinner fresh, regularly, especially when our brains perhaps do not love to time manage or perform complex tasks?
My beautiful girlfriend the store cupboard. Staples that can sit on your shelf for weeks, months, years, waiting for you. If I were to build a store cupboard tomorrow here is what I would buy (adjust for preferences, allergies, and dietary requirements for all my advice ofc.)
- Rice. I like basmati or wholegrain, but the most important thing is to pick what you like and cook it according to the instructions. If you feel nervous or you get rice wrong often, I would recommend keeping 2 microwave packets of rice in the cupboard. They're long life, they come in great flavours, and can be the bulk of a meal with basically 0 effort. We want easy and fast! Microwave packets are Definitely more expensive, if you plan to eat rice more than once a week I would encourage you to become confident cooking it in a pan, or getting a little rice cooker (!) or a microwave rice steamer (we used one for years and they're pretty damn good) but have a microwave packet in back-up anyway. It doesn't get any better! Tilda lemongrass, coconut and lime is my fave.
- Pasta. Boil it on the hob. Basic uni 101. This is one of the exceptions to my hatred of meal prep, ONLY in the sense that if you cook it right, add a good sauce and such, it can be a good portable lunch if you're planning to be out all day and don't/can't grab something on the go! (See my fave pasta recipes below!)
- Seasoning. My beautiful girlfriend Seasoning. Salt and Pepper. And then it depends on the type of food you enjoy eating, but here's what I'd get!
A basic curry Powder / Smoked sweet paprika / Garam Masala (a brilliant mix of the good stuff!) / Mixed Herbs (sometimes called Herbs de Provence) /Chinese Five Spice. If you're just starting out, I think you can do really well with these, they're primarily mixed of Other Things, and a majority of recipes will ask for a combination of what's included in them (i.e. if a recipe asks for ground cumin, ground coriander, and tumeric, then garam masala will cover your bases!) (the herbs de Provence is oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary etc. brilliant in Mediterranean cooking)
- Stuff In Jars. I Love Jars and could talk forever - explore the jar aisle in your supermarket and find things that call to you! I personally really recommend ginger paste and garlic paste. Yes, fresh garlic and ginger are powerful and excellent, but the jar stuff is SO convenient and does an amazing job. But look for PASTE (not the chopped stuff stored in oil, the paste is better. Trust me.) if you do plan to buy fresh garlic, store in in a pot in your kitchen, but for fresh ginger : freeze it and grate it into stuff. Easier and makes your ginger last forever. More on freezing in a bit! But jar stuff is great for so many things. Check how long they like to be used after they've been opened as it does vary! I like to have :
Pesto / Sun-dried Tomato paste / Miso paste / Harissa paste. Pick maybe two jars that you like the sound of and start with those. Add them to pasta, add them to rice, put them in toasted sandwiches. They're quick and easy flavour and wildly reliable.
Misc. condiments and staples
- butter makes everything taste good. Cook with it for rich flavour and calorie dense food that'll keep you full and satiated all day. My top recommendations that get better with butter are eggs, quick cook cuts of meat in a pan on the hob (thinly sliced steak is a good one - I wouldn't recommend light meats like chicken or pork, as they tend to need longer to cook and it's more dangerous to undercook them, which leaves them at risk of drying out too.)
- Vinegar is actually brilliant and I like to own many vinegars but I wouldn't bother at first unless you cook a look of something that requires it i.e. Japanese and Chinese dishes love rice wine vinegar, and Mediterranean salads are brilliant with balsamic. A good expansion pack, but buying too Much for your store cupboard is as bad as buying too little - you'll be overwhelmed trying to manage it and uni accommodation rarely has the space! However, cooking is always Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. So have an acid to hand, but consider bottled lemon juice. It's more versatile and can go in most stuff. In the same way you'd taste for seasoning with salt, consider if a dish needs to be a little more rounded (you'll get a feeling for this) and chuck a dash of lemon in. If you go easy it's unlikely to make things worse and will almost always help. Alongside your standard salt I would encourage you to own soy sauce, especially if you plan to eat rice!
A good neutral oil is a winner, something you can cook with like vegetable or rapeseed would be my recommendation. Olive oil is essentially useless to you at this time unless you're buying a particularly nice one to dress salads and meats with. It has a smoke point that's basically useless for cooking and will probably set the alarms at your uni off before you've cooked anything. Don't ask how I learned that. <3
A few tins are also nice but don't go mad! Two tins of chopped tomatoes, two tins of easy vegetables, I always have sweetcorn because I eat it so much! Peas are good too. I also recommend tinned tuna, it just is very reliable. Some people may tell you to try lentils. These people want to see you fail. Lentil dishes are awesome and if you have experience with them they're great, but they can go funny quickly, take a while to cook, and tend to produce large volumes of leftovers. We are trying to avoid leftovers. My ADHD autism brain doesn't want to eat them, and gets stressed about time, money, and fridge space being wasted! Cook quick, cook once, eat fresh and hot.
So now you have your store cupboard. Yay! What do we do with it? Well we use it as our nutrition base, and add a selection of fresh stuff on top to get great flavour and good energy.
Basic meals from our store cupboard and what I would buy fresh to top them off ;
- Pasta with pesto and STUFF. Pesto pasta is a uni staple, but it's not nutritionally complete and gets boring quick. Think about what you love to eat, and ADD what you need to thrive. I add black olives (they come in a jar and last forever!) sundried tomatoes (either in paste form, in jar form or fresh from the chiller section!) and cooked shredded chicken breast. (Bacon is good too). Cooking a couple chicken breasts on Sunday and storing them airtight in the fridge will last like four days safely, and whilst you can eat it cold as a snack (which I often do) the primary thing is you can shred it and chuck it into dishes to warm through! Pre cooked meats like ham, turkey, etc (even in their wafer thin form!) are great for this. Pasta with peas and ham and a bit of cream cheese is a winner too. Think about getting a portion of veggies and some protein, but don't get too hung up about it. Food that keeps you going and tastes good is good food.
- rice! Listen I don't get along with stir fry. I never have. Maybe you do! But I don't. I prefer to cook rice, add soy sauce, egg, spring onions, pickled ginger (comes in a jar. Bloody love a jar) and carrots (I like to use a peeler to get ribbons because the texture is good but whatever you like.) sometimes I might add like a pre cooked prawn. Seafood is so great for variety as a protein, prawn and feta spaghetti with tomatoes is one of my faves, but it can be expensive. If you feel comfortable buying them frozen and defrosting/cooking them, go ahead, but prioritize your safety if you don't and but them already cooked so all you have to do is stick em in your pasta to warm through.
- a good sandwich is a skill and can be a meal in a pinch. My favourite sandwiches that are meals : avocado, mozzarella, chicken, and sun-dried tomatoes. Tuna, cheese, sweetcorn and a dab of natural yoghurt (I don't eat mayo but mayo would work here!) (I like to make the tuna one and stick it under the grill for like 5 mins. It's so good) sandwiches should not be basic!! Add chutneys, sauces, and extra vegetables! Don't buy things like lettuce or tomato if they're gonna rot in your fridge, buy what tastes great that you LOVE!
A note on freezing : if I freeze something as someone with no time management or foreward planning, I'm probably not gonna eat it. I tend to rely on my staples and stop by for a couple fresh items every few days. Small bread loves, smaller packets of meat, they are more expensive, but remember the most expensive food is the food you don't eat because it has frostburn from sitting in a communal freezer for six months! Ginger and chillis, and easy oven stuff like scampi, chips, are better because I don't need to defrost them. And there's nothing wrong with saying 'tonight I need something easy' and cooking oven chips. It's literally fine. Consider what you could chuck together while they're cooking though! A bite of ham while you wait? Maybe some carrot or cucumber sicks? Add, don't take away.
I think probably I need to shut up now shdjf. Final thoughts : YouTube is a brilliant resource. Babish, Sorted, bon appetite, they all have resources on quick and easy 'pantry' meals, which is generally what I'm guiding you towards! Best of luck my darling, I hope something helpful has cropped up here! Much love !!

Designated Driver (1/2)
Rio/OFC
summary- one of rio's ladies gets too drunk to drive herself home, and all she wants is for him to come pick her up.
warnings- 18+. alcohol use, eventual smut.
word count- 4.6K
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"What are we celebrating?" Annie asked, raising her shot glass to cheers.
Beth looked to her sister, then at Olivia, and she shrugged. "Surviving."
Olivia was drunk already, and that one word made her laugh. She nearly dropped her own shot glass in the process.
Even Annie was surprised. "Jesus, lightweight much?"
"Hey, I don't get out very often anymore. I never got the time," Olivia said, shooting back the tequila and quickly reaching for a lime slice on a plate in the center of the table.
The three of them were at a seedy strip club on the wrong side of town. They'd all agreed to go somewhere no one knew them, far away from their own establishment, where they wouldn't bump into anyone in Rio's crew or any husband's of the wives from the PTA or carpool list. It was such a rare thing for them to get just one whole night away from work and responsibilities. Usually their nights out consisted of meeting up with clients, passing off cash, or recruiting. So, it was a special occasion worth celebrating.
"How's Kai doing?" Beth asked Olivia, turning in her seat so she could hear better. "Is he sleeping through the night?"
Olivia still considered herself a new mother. Her son Kai, had only just turned two years old, and he'd been experiencing sleep regression. It was exhausting, but she was grateful to have Beth and Annie who always seemed to have an answer for her questions.
"Mm, sort of. Some nights he's perfect, and then others, I'm up crawling into his crib with him just so he can babble on for hours while I doze off from sheer exhaustion."
Olivia reached for another shot and took it without hesitation. It burned like none other, but she took it like a champ. It was her only night with a babysitter, so she was going to live it up.
"It'll pass. I know it doesn't sound helpful right now, but Kenny went through the same thing. Just when I thought I was going to have to throw myself off the roof, it stopped. He started sleeping through the night again, and it was like it never happened," said Beth, and Annie agreed, waving their waitress over for another round.
"I hope it ends soon," Olivia slurred. "These shifts at work plus no sleep are going to be the death of me."
"You really need to find something during the day," Annie said.
"What I do pays well if you consider the health benefits, and it keeps me close to the cops."
Olivia worked for dispatch, night shift, but she was hoping to get moved to days in the next couple of months.
"Face it," Olivia said, just as her phone started to vibrate in her pocket. "We need an inside man, and without Stan, I'm all we've got."
Annie and Beth started talking about Ruby and Stan amongst themselves while Olivia opened the new text message.
Anyone sticking their nose where it doesn't belong tonight?
Rio.
He must be out getting into trouble, doing business. They were the same thing for a guy like him. She typed out a quick response and hit send.
Not sure, I'm not at the station. Night off.
Her stomach did a nervous somersault, but she wasn't sure why. He was no threat to her here. It wasn't like he tracked their phones, or at least he never insinuated that he did. She tucked her phone away again and rejoined the other two ladies at the table. The waitress dropped off another round of shots as well as three draft beers, and Beth passed them one of each.
"Take advantage of this, ladies. We might not get the chance for this again anytime soon," Beth said with a frown. "We're about to be very busy."
Olivia went to ask why that was when her phone buzzed again.
Where you at then
Olivia stared at the text for a moment. She had the sudden urge to tell him, to see if he would pop up unannounced like he so often did, appearing out of the shadows like some ominous dark entity. It was so strong she started to type the club name, but she froze.
"Earth to Liv," Annie said, pulling her attention.
"Sorry, what?" Olivia took a sip of her beer, trying to wash away the taste of tequila.
"How's Dakota doing?"
Ah, Olivia's bouncing baby nephew. The prodigal son of her brother, Greg.
"Good, as far as I know. Nancy's really taken the title for World's Most Anal Retentive Mother."
That made Annie crack up, and Beth just raised her brows, looking at each of them. "What, she's my sister in law," Olivia said. "I can make fun of her all I want to."
Beth raised her hands in defense. "I didn't say anything."
"She tries to make me feel inadequate just because I let Kai have gluten."
"She tries to do the same thing with Ben. Even now, like a hundred years later," said Annie.
Lucy's shoulders slumped. "She tried to tell me that's why he doesn't sleep at night. Because of all the chemicals he eats." Her phone buzzed again, and her body flushed hot.
"Who on earth is blowing you up?" Annie asked, taking another shot.
"No one," Olivia said quickly. "Just a group text for some of the people at work."
Not doing anything I wouldn't do I hope
Me? Never, she responded.
He'd been dropping subtle hints for weeks, so subtle Olivia thought she might be crazy. A hand graze here, lingering stare there, a slight nod of approval when she walked into the room.
The two of them were never alone long enough for her to do any real investigating. Beth or Annie were always right around the corner, and Rio dealt mostly with Beth. She was their spokesperson. Olivia was just the artist who happened to work at the police station. Any information Rio might need from her, he could get secondhand from Beth.
Olivia found him attractive. There was no doubt about that. He was everything she'd never had, but everything she desired. Kai's father had been the safe option, the standard All American guy who was just that—safe. Predictable. Until he left her, moving in with an old college girlfriend he married two months after abandoning Olivia and Kai.
Rio was not predictable in any sense of the word, and she wouldn't necessarily consider him safe either. Unless she counted the way people looked at him when he walked in the room. It wasn't lost on her—the fear, the caution. Everyone that ran in their circle knew him, and they all knew what he was capable of. She felt that same fear every time she was in the same room as him, every time he fixed his stare in her direction.
She tucked her phone away again and turned back to her friends, trying her very hardest to focus on something other than their boss, but it was tough. Nothing good could come from it, so it was best to pretend it wasn't there.
Hours later, Olivia was too drunk to know how many, all she wanted was her bed and about a gallon of water. Beth and Annie were making friends with a stripper named Dallas, and both seemed perfectly content to talk until the sun came up. While standing in line for the bathroom, a terrible idea popped into Olivia's head, and she pulled out her phone with sloppy hands before her rational mind could tell her no. If Beth or Annie could see her, they'd rip the phone out of her hands and shame her until she was red in the face, she knew it, but she did it anyway.
Thank you, Jose Cuervo.
I need a ride, she managed to type and send with squinted eyes and slow fingers to ensure there weren't any typos. The letters on her keyboard all started to blur together, but luckily she had it memorized well enough to get it done. The response came quicker than she thought it would. She'd barely moved up one spot in line.
Address
Her stomach did a nervous flip, but she held firm and sent her location to his phone. She waited, but nothing came through, and she wondered if he was just playing with her. There was only one way to find out, and that was to wait to see if he showed.
It took nearly fifteen minutes just to make it into the bathroom, and once she was finished looking herself over in the mirror, making sure she didn't look too crazy, she headed back out to their table. She was nearly there when she caught a glimpse of him. He was standing just inside the entrance to the club, his hands in his pockets and a beanie on his head.
All black, typical, she thought, but then her heart leapt into her throat. If Annie or Beth saw him, they'd never understand. Olivia rushed over, and when Rio caught sight of her, his focus turned in her direction. She tried to play it cool, to pretend she wasn't drunk, but she definitely wasn't known for her acting skills.
"They can't see you," she said, trying to nudge him backwards, but he was an immovable object.
"Who, your date?"
She scoffed. "Be serious. Annie and Beth."
"Ahh, I see. You uh, come here often?" he asked, looking around with a one sided smirk. There were naked women everywhere they looked. Their club didn't do full nudity, but this one did.
"Can't say that I do. I didn't even think you'd show up," Olivia said, getting flustered, brushing the hair off her sweaty neck. She didn't miss the way Rio's eyes tracked the motion. She didn't know what to do or say now that he was here in front of her, but one thing was certain—Beth and Annie couldn't see them together.
"Why wouldn't I?"
"I don't know. Because we're enough of a headache during the day?"
Rio laughed. "You aren't my headache, Olivia."
"But I'm also not your problem."
He said nothing for a moment, and then, "You ready to go?"
"Uh, yeah, I just have to tell them I'm leaving. Wait right here."
Olivia turned and weaved through the crowd, glancing back over her shoulder to make sure Rio didn't follow. She didn't trust him enough to not try and incite some drama, and she hoped he didn't see which direction she was headed.
"Hey, my Uber's here," Olivia said when she got back to their table.
Annie frowned. "What? I thought you were just going to the bathroom."
"Sitter texted me. Kai's awake and she's not sure what to do." She didn't know where the lie came from, or why it came out so easily, especially after all the tequila she'd drank.
"Oh, damn, I'm sorry. Text me when you get home?"
Olivia suddenly felt guilty about lying to Annie, one of her oldest and dearest friendships, but she kept her nerve. "Yeah, of course."
She gave them both quick hugs, and then hurried back to where she'd left Rio. He was leaning against  the wall, looking down at his phone. What she found interesting was the way he hardly even glanced at the women around him. There was temptation in every direction, but he seemed to have no interest in it.
"Ready," she said as she made her way back over, and he tucked the phone away in his pocket.
"Let's go, then."
Rio guided her through the crowd toward the door, keeping just a step in front of her, parting the sea of people so they could get through. As they reached the exit, he slowed and placed a hand at the small of her back, nudging her onto the path of least resistance. Olivia was very aware of that hand and the way it felt against her skin through the thin material of her blouse. He couldn't see her face, but she couldn't contain the smile. The alcohol in her system wasn't helping matters. As soon as they were outside, Rio dropped his hand, and Olivia did her best to wipe the emotion from her face.
"I'm parked over here," he said, pointing toward the street, and she followed along beside him quietly, not sure what to say now.
They remained like that until they were in the car. She looked over at him and raised her eyebrows. "You're in pajamas."
"What?"
"You're wearing pajamas," she said again, blank faced and confused, the liquor slurring her words a little. He was in all black, but he was in sweatpants and a sweatshirt, a beanie on his head. His sharp edges and prickly demeanor were no where to be found, and in their place he seemed.. soft. It was jarring.
"I mean, yeah, I guess. It's three in the morning."
"I've never seen you in pajamas."
Rio rolled his eyes and started the car. "Put your seatbelt on."
She did as he told her to, and he pulled out onto the street. Once they were moving, he took one hand off the steering wheel to turn the radio on. Hip-hop filled the space between them, but not too loud to where she couldn't be heard if she wanted to be.
Inside the closed space, Olivia was very aware of the smell of his cologne in the air, a delicious scent, and the close proximity of their bodies. She'd never really been this close to him before, never ridden shotgun while he drove or had his arm resting on the console, his free hand on the gear shift so close to her knee he could brush his fingers over it if he wanted to without moving. Her face burned at the thought, and she couldn't seem to look away from his hand, as if she could will it to close the distance.
"Your kid at home?" Rio asked, nearly making her jump out of her skin. She'd been so lost inside her own head, the sound of his voice was startling.
"Kai, yeah, he's with the sitter." She was very aware of how the words didn't come out clear.
The silence resumed, but she noted the way he looked over at her every so often, and she shifted her legs so her knee nearly brushed against his hand. Rio wasn't stupid or oblivious. He knew what that meant, and her heart rate increased when he closed the distance, sliding his open palm over her knee and up to rest on her thigh.
Olivia had to turn her face to the window to keep him from seeing just what that did to her, but by the hum that came from his chest, he already knew. To prove she wasn't a coward, she slid her arm through his, and he flipped his palm to lace their fingers together. His thumb brushed soft lines over the skin of her knuckles. Neither of them said a word, and by the time they reached Olivia's street, her heart had slowed a little.
When Rio parked the SUV in the driveway and turned off the ignition, neither of them moved. Olivia soaked up every bit of the seconds she had left with him, the quiet seconds when he wasn't quite so scary. She looked his way and saw that he was staring up at the front door, his head resting back against the seat. The lights in the living room were on, the porch light too, but other than that the house was dark. Leah must be working on homework on the couch, and Kai was sleeping for once. Rio felt her gaze and rolled his head slowly her way, his face neutral.
"Thanks for driving me," she whispered, eyes flickering down to his perfectly plump bottom lip.
"You're welcome."
Olivia started to pull her hand away, but Rio squeezed it softly, his expression never changing. He let go then, and watched her open the door and hop out onto the pavement, heart skittering like a newborn deer.
"Do you want to come in?" she asked before she could stop the thought from taking physical shape, turning back with her hand on the door.
Rio sat up and ran his hand over his chin, scratching at his facial hair. "What for?"
She shrugged. "Watch a movie, drink a glass of wine, smoke a joint, whatever."
Rio laughed. "You smoke weed?"
"Sometimes, why, do I not seem like the type?"
He looked her over slowly, sending a chill down her spine. "No, not really."
"Well, I do, so if you want to, the offer stands. Otherwise, goodnight."
She shut the door, giving him a second to think it over, and her a chance to get control of her nerves. She headed for the front door, digging through her purse for her house keys as she went, refusing to look back over her shoulder for fear of seeing him starting up the car and leaving.
Before she got the door unlocked, Olivia heard the sound of a door closing. She smiled softly, forcing herself to remain calm and cool on the outside even though she was screaming on the inside. She felt his presence at her back a moment later, but Rio didn't say a word.
Leah—Kai's high school babysitter, was sitting on the floor in the living room with her school books spread out on the carpet. She looked up and smiled, her pink and purple braces on full display.
"You're back early," Leah said, glancing behind Olivia at Rio who stood quietly.
"I was tired," Olivia said while kicking off her shoes. "Kai asleep?"
Leah started gathering up her stuff. "Yeah, he's only woken up once. I gave him milk and he fell right back to sleep."
Olivia laughed. "I'm jealous. He keeps me up for hours lately. It's amazing I'm still standing."
Leah shoved her books into her bag. "I'm sure it'll pass. Have a good night, Miss Walton."
She headed out the front door, leaving Olivia alone with Rio again. It felt even more strange to be inside her home with him, in her safe place. He moved away from her without saying a word, heading for the bookshelves lining the far wall where she had her collection along with photos and keepsakes. Most of them were of her and Gregg as children, but there were quite a few of Kai.
"He's a cute kid," Rio said, his back to her. "He looks just like you."
She sat down on the arm of the couch and watched him. "Thank god for that."
"Where's his dad?" He turned, pinning her with his brown eyes.
"Not in the picture."
He took a few steps closer, never dropping her gaze, and tucked his hands into the pockets of his jacket. "Why am I here, Olivia?"
She sat up a little straighter, forcing a confidence she didn't naturally possess, and refused to look away. "I don't know. Why did you get out of the car?"
Rio took a few more steps forward. Now, he was only one or two decently sized ones from her, and the way he watched her was like a predator analyzing its prey long before an actual attack. It was darkly curious, almost undecided in a way. He didn't know why he'd come inside. It made butterflies take flight in her stomach. It was full of possibilities.
Before Rio could answer, she stood and moved toward the stairs. "Come on, I think I have enough weed for a joint to share."
She didn't wait to see how he reacted, and headed up the wooden staircase to the landing up above, careful to avoid any of the creaky spots that would wake Kai almost instantly. Rio followed. She could hear his quiet, carefully placed footsteps, the kind only someone who has lived in a house with small children knows how to achieve.
The master bedroom was at the end of the hallway. It was dark aside from the bedside lamp still switched on, the door cracked, and her stomach did a nervous somersault at the thought of Rio inside of it. It was such a foreign concept to her still drunken mind, but it was also exciting, and she bit at her bottom lip. Rio followed her in, and just like in the living room, he moved around slowly, taking in the decor, the discarded shirts and pants she'd decided against when she was getting ready earlier that evening, the neatly made king sized bed.
Olivia opened the top drawer of her dresser where she kept a small jewelry box she'd made in a pottery class when she was just a kid. It was misshapen and imperfect like most kids crafts, but she loved it just the same. Inside it, she kept a bottle of anxiety medication she'd been prescribed shortly after she had Kai, a loosely wrapped plastic baggie of pot, a few rolling papers, and a lighter.
"Do you know how to roll?" Rio asked.
"I'm sure it's hard to believe, but yes, I do." She gave him a sarcastic smile, her eyes nearly closing altogether, and he chuckled, raising his hands in defense.
Olivia hopped up onto the bed and patted the spot next to her. Rio just shook his head, like he couldn't believe where he was and what he was doing, before sitting beside her. After he took off his beanie and stuffed it into his pocket, he laid back flat on his back, hands behind his head, and she was very aware of the way his sweatshirt rode up. The motion exposed a strip of his stomach, and she had to pry her eyes away to focus on the task at hand. Rio stared up at the ceiling without saying a word while she rolled a pretty decent joint for someone who was drunk.
She lit it and took a deep inhale, eyes closing at the way it filled her lungs and dissipated out into her limbs. She blew out the smoke and hummed a soft sigh of contentment before passing it to Rio. When she opened her eyes, he was watching her. He took the joint and pressed it between his lips, and she held his gaze as he inhaled and held the smoke for a few seconds before blowing it into the space between them.
They remained like that for a while, quietly passing the joint back and forth until she was perfectly at ease, her limbs loose and mind clear. She fell back to lay beside him, and she felt his hand shift closer before taking hers, lacing their fingers together just like they had been in the car. She smiled, unable to hold it back, and felt her neck flush with heat. When she rolled her head to look at him, he was staring right back, and without thinking, she leaned forward and kissed him.
Maybe it was the tequila, or maybe it was the weed, but a shock of electricity ran through Olivia's body at the contact. It lit a fire in her belly, and instead of pulling away like she intended, she pressed into him harder when he kissed her back. His free hand ran up her arm to cup the back of her head, and she shifted so she could lean over him, slipping her tongue between his lips to tangle with his.
His lips were soft and warm, everything she imagined they'd be. She wanted more of him, and she slid a leg over his hips, breaking the kiss only to get a read on his reaction when she straddled his waist, palms flat on his chest. His eyes darkened as they moved down her body, taking in their new position. With just the soft lamplight illuminating his features, he looked irresistible to her.
Olivia bit her bottom lip, shifting back just enough to feel him growing hard in the confines of his sweats. The butterflies in her stomach fluttered, their wings beating rapidly when his eyes snapped shut, his hands running up her legs to squeeze her thighs tight. They kept moving up, palming the flesh of her ass, and when his eyes opened, the same fire she was engulfed in was burning there. Olivia was emboldened by the way she felt, the way she wasn't afraid of him here and now.
"What are you doing?" Rio said lowly, pinning her with his eyes.
The sound of his voice made her flush hotter, but she didn't answer verbally. She ran her hands down his torso to the hem of his sweatshirt, slipping her fingers beneath the fabric to the warm skin beneath it. Her movements were tentative and cautious. Even after all the alcohol, she wasn't sure how he would react. The thought of meeting his gaze was too much to bear, so she kept her eyes trained on her own movements instead. When she sat back and ghosted just the tip of her index finger into the band of his sweats, Rio snatched her up by the wrists, ending the exploration of his body, and sending her heart racing.
"What are you doing, Olivia?" he asked again, firmer this time.
"Nothing."
He swallowed, adams apple bobbing. "This isn't nothing." He squeezed her wrist, flexing his fingers around it, watching her closely.
Olivia was frozen, but the longer the silence stretched on, the further her mind drifted, and she shifted her hips forward. A sharp exhale left Rio's chest, and she risked a look at his face. He sat up quickly, still holding her wrist, and forced it behind her back. His lips were so close now, and her heart leapt into her throat.
"You're drunk, and you need to watch yourself," he said lowly, his chest vibrating against her own and she leaned forward to kiss him, ignoring his words completely, but she stopped when she saw the muscle jump in his jaw. "Olivia."
"Okay," she whispered, forcing herself back to the reality of their situation. This was Rio, her boss, a man who terrified her in the daytime. But right now he was touchable, less frigid.
Rio shifted, lifting his hips and tossing her down onto the mattress like it was nothing. Olivia couldn't help but laugh loudly, but she slapped a hand over her mouth to keep from waking Kai. With a growing smirk, he leaned over her, switching their positions to straddle her waist. "Close your eyes and go to sleep," he said, getting so close to her lips that she felt frozen for a moment, certain that he would close the distance.
"I'm sorry. Just ignore me. I'm not myself after three tequilas."
Rio sat back, staring down at her. "Fuckin' lightweight. Jesus Christ."
He rolled off and resumed his position beside her, but this time he laid on his side. Olivia dragged one of the blankets up over her body and nestled into them, turning slightly into her side to get comfortable. The longer they laid there, the further she drifted toward sleep. She tried to keep her eyes open, but they were so heavy and she was so comfy.
"You tired, Olivia?" Rio asked, his voice so quiet in the subtly lamp lit room she thought she dreamed it for a second. A beat later, he ran a finger softly against her cheek, brushing a few strands of hair behind her ear before caressing her chin with the palm of his hand.
"Yeah, kids will do that," she mumbled back. “You’re really not so scary, Rio.”
He continued to run his thumb back and forth against her cheek, and she couldn't resist the pull of sleep any longer. Her eyelids dropped closed, and she nestled in closer to the wall of his chest.
“Chris,” he said. “You can call me Chris.”

I hope your doing well!
Could we have some headcanons for the reader turning out to be Kellers long lost teen kid? They were adopted but wanted to learn more about there real father and Toby ends up taking on a father figure role while Chris is busy freaking out. If you can ofc and I hope your doing well!
When I say I CACKLED. Keller having a panic attack over a kid while Beecher actually raises said kid is TOO funny. Like the only thing that could make it funnier is a stressed out Said playing uncle. So I think I’ll add that too😂
This one’s a little long sorry 😅 It’ll be in parts. Two or three I think.
Chris Keller, Tobias Beecher, and Y/N in: Paternity Test part 1/?
Your parents told you that you were adopted from a young age. You never minded. They’re your parents; the people who have taken care of you your whole life. They never lied, they just supported. For many years, you didn’t care about your birth parents.
But something inside you itched. You still loved your family. And they were your family, no matter what any test said.
But you were curious. Had to know.
Your father, sitting you down one day and talking with you, decides to give you a lead on your bio dad. He hands you a piece of paper. It has a name on it, a phone number, and an address, though you’re not sure if it’s his address or just a place he frequented.
You walk into the area. It’s a sports bar. Nothing fancy. Wings and fries and such.🍻🍗
You see a golden haired man sitting at the bar, alone, drinking a water with a lime in it, conversing very friendly with the bartender. When the bartender left, you approach him. He seems like a regular.
You sort of appear next to him, and he flinches when he turns and sees you there. You apologize.
“Im sorry! I’m… I’m trying to find someone. You look like a regular.”
He chuckles a little and gestures to his non-alcoholic beverage.
“Used to be too much of a regular, if you understand, kid. What’re you doing here anyway? No kids in the bar section.”
Tears well up in your eyes and you just break down.
“Im here to meet my birth father and I don’t even know what he looks like but I know this address means something to him. I just want to reach out. I don’t know, maybe it’s stupid.”
“Hey, that’s not stupid. You’re just trying to understand where you come from, that’s not bad or selfish. What’s his name? I’m Mr. Beecher. My boyfriend is a bartender, so I’m here a lot. Maybe I know him?”
“Christopher Keller.”
His face goes pale, and his eyes wide.🫨 He just repeats the name after you for a second. You think you understand.
“…dad?”
“I- no, I’m not Chris.” He shakes his head and gestures for the bartender to come down.
You really get a look at the bartender this time. Dark, unkind eyes, half shaven face, a confident strut. He reminds you of the guy who picks on you in school. You suddenly want to leave.
“Hey, Tobes.”
“Chris, honey. This kid… what’s your name, kid?”
“Y/N.”
“Y/N who?” Keller responds, teasingly. “Or is it like Beyoncé or Shakira? Like just a single name?”
You giggle a little and say, knowing now who you’re speaking to;
“Y/N Keller.”
After his startled expression, you muster out a small;
“Hi, dad.”
Keller’s not an easy person to catch off guard but baby, you made an IMPRESSION. 🤣
His eyes flick from you to Beecher, to you again.
“This some kind of prank?” He asks lowly, and you feel a knot form in your stomach.
“I don’t think so.” You respond, handing him the piece of paper. “I already got in contact with my biological mother. Bonnie Applegate?”
Keller freezes, looking you over. You didn’t even really look like him. Your eyes were soft and kind, like Bonnie’s, and even with your darker hair and features, the prominent nose, and the crooked smile… fuck. You were his and Bonnie’s alright.
“Miss Bonnie seems like a sweet lady. She told me I could call her Mom if I want. But I don’t know. I love my family. I just want to love my whole family if that makes sense.”
Chris and Tobias exchanged looks. Chris was panicking, big time, Tobias realized.
“Well… ya met me. Is that all?” He asked. It sounded more unkind than he meant it but your face drops.
“Oh… I thought maybe you wanted-“
“Of course he wants that, Y/N.” Toby pipes in, and Chris gives him an omg what the hell are you doing look. Toby smacks his hand a little.
“Maybe you’d like to come over tonight for dinner. I was actually about to go get it started while Chris finishes up his side work.”
“Toby!” Chris admonishes, still looking you up and down like an alien. You’re not sure what to say.
“C’mon, Y/N.” Toby starts to stand and put his coat on. “We’re family. Family takes care of each other. Come home with me, we can talk while making dinner. Chris, I’ll see you at home.”
Toby leans in to kiss Chris on the lips and give him a short hug. Chris grabs him during the hug part and whispers.
“The fuck you doing, Tobes?”
Tobias smiled genially and led you away.
“I’m stopping you from making a decision you’ll regret.”
The ride over is a little awkward, but Beecher puts his whole pussy into making conversation with you. You’re a little shy, and still more than a little confused at if you’re doing the right thing.
That is until Beecher throws on “Tubthumping” by Chumbawumba and starts singing to it off key. You can’t help but laugh.
He leads you into their home; a sweet little suburban home with a bright red door.
“Holly insisted at least our door doesn’t look like everyone else’s” he explains, and then remembers something. “Oh, right. Holly is like your sister.”
“I have <another> sister?”
“Kinda. She’s mine from a previous marriage, but Chris has stepped into a fatherly role with her so I consider her your sister.”
“Wow. Turns out I didn’t just have a mom and a dad I didn’t know. I have a mom, two dads, and a sister I didn’t know. Am I… am I doing the right thing?”
“Absolutely.” He answered without thinking. Because he didn’t have to. In his mind, you’re already his and Chris’.
You’re in his home and he starts mixing things into the crock pot like some sort of witch. He gets you a capri sun in the mean time.
“You’d think those are for Holly, but they’re really more for Chris.” He laughs to himself as he remembers Chris in the store silently sliding a cherry capri sun box into the cart.
“Cherry ones are my favorite.” You remake, and he smiles over at you.
“Yeah, I kind of figured.” ❤️
See, Toby already loves you. He loves how fatherly Chris has gotten with Holly, but Toby can look at Holly and see only his face and her mother’s. When he looks at you, he sees Chris. The dark eyes searching everyone over. The little sniff you do with your nose when you’re trying not to cry. And your voice. It’s got that same sing song as him. He’d always wanted to have a kid with Chris. Biology just said no.
“So, you met Bonnie?”
“Yeah. Have you?”
“We always have her for dinner when she’s in town. She’s a traveling news reporter now. We’re so proud of her. She’s also become Holly’s godmother. It used to be my wife’s sister, but that’s a whole other story.”
“Um… I actually have a few questions about that.”
“Hmm.” He thinks with a smirk. “Shoot.”
You ask about him and Keller. How did it happen? Is his dad gay? Is that why you were given up for adoption?
He explains as best he can. Everything. Prison and Schillinger and such. He’s a firm believer in giving kids the truth.
Chris comes home after an hour. He sits in the driveway for a minute before entering. Like meeting you was just some bad dream.
“Ya gotta go in.” Holly reminds him from the back seat. He picked her up from some afterschool club. Something to do with the environment, he thinks.
“I know.”
Silence for a moment.
“You’re still not going in.”
Chris loved Holly but she could be a real ball buster.
When he enters, Beecher’s got the family photo album out and is showing you everything.
Plus you’re drinking one of his goddamn cherry capri suns.
“This one’s Keller in high school.” Toby stares at it dreamily, and a Chris can’t help a smirk.
Beecher greets his daughter and introduces you. She’s nice enough, even if she keeps sending unsubtle looks to Keller.
“Wanna see my room?” She asks with a shrug. You say yes. She’s a few years younger than you.
“I’ve always wanted to be not the oldest. Then I was an only child and wanted a sibling of any age.”
She explains Gary but Beecher already filled you in.
“So here are some things you need to know. Dad is my dad. Pop is your dad. But they’re both our dads now. My dad doesn’t drink anymore. Pop does on occasion but never in front of dad. Oh and Pop’s real freaked out about having you here.”
You ask why.
“It’s not personal. He was like that with me at first. Like, weird about kids. But I think with me he could always tell himself I was my dad’s. Now he’s got you, and the only connection to himself is himself. And he doesn’t like himself very much.”
“Wow.” Holly was straight to the point. You agreed to be patient with him.
“Oh, and whatever you do, don’t compliment my dad’s food”
“Um, why?”
“Because he’ll never make it again. He considers it a level completed. If you like it, keep your mouth shut. If you don’t, tell him how much you love it and you’ll never see it again.”
You and Holly are laughing down the stairs, you chasing her down them.
Beecher’s heart is very full, watching his and his boyfriend’s kids getting along so well.
He wraps his arms around Keller, who’s washing up at the sink to cut some bread. He presses his nose into Chris’s back, and kisses the center.
“You’re awfully springy today.” Chris teased, smiling darkly. He knew why.
“This is wonderful, Chris. You weren’t in the place to love Y/N before. Now you are and he/she/they found you.”
Chris nodded, but said nothing.
“Don’t think I can tell when you’re freaking out?” Toby asks slyly, checking on his creamy chicken recipe.
“Leave it, Tobes.”
“Fair request. No.” Toby responded cheerfully. Chris may have been able to protect him in Oz, but domesticity was his… domain, as it were.
Keller rolled his eyes at his overly confident, nerdy ass boyfriend.
“Kids! Dinner!” Toby called from the kitchen. There’s silence for a second.
“Always wanted to do that?” Chris called over his newspaper.
“Yup.” Toby answered, prepping plates for each of them.
You and Holly file in, still talking Minecraft.
“Don’t know your appetite yet, Y/N, but I’ll show you how we do it. Here’s your plate. Rice is on the stove, tortillas are warmed in the microwave in case you wanted a burrito instead.”
You look towards Chris, who is doing his darndest to not make eye contact with you. It hurts a little that your dad’s boyfriend is being more supportive than your biological dad.
There’s no issue in dinner conversation, Holly’s got that covered. There is a guest during dinner, however.
Theres a knock on the door. Keller tells Holly to ignore it. That anyone comes during dinner can come back later.
“Actually, Chris, I invited a family friend over I think might be of some help to Y/N during these confusing times.”
“Oh, fuck me, will this day not end?” Keller’s hands slump in his hands.
“Swear jar.” Holly sing songs. “I’ll go let him in.”
“I didn’t say who it was.”
“Please, that reaction from pop only means one thing.” Holly bounded from the room and chanted “Uncle Kareem!”
You were shocked. Your dad knew THE Kareem Said?
Keller hadn’t taken his head out from between his hands.
Sure enough, Kareem Said, clear as day, walked into the kitchen/dining room. He’s got Holly in his arms.
Kareem had really come to love Holly. After they were released, Beecher asked if he would be Holly’s godfather as it used to be his father. Kareem accepted the position from the man he’d come to think of as his brother.
Said regarded you politely, Beecher almost begging him to have a seat.
“Keller.”
“Said.” Keller said, still looking constipated as he forced a smile. “Nice of you to join us.”
“Thank you.”
The two had never gotten along, turning into a brother in law type situation. (Or if Holly ever wants to give back the two dollars Keller paid her to keep her mouth shut; Keller called him his mother in law on several occasions.) But they both loved Beecher, so c’est la vie.
“That’s Y/N.” Holly waved at you. You waved back. This was turning into the strangest family you’ve ever seen.
“Hi, Y/N, do you go to Holly’s school?” Kareem has often prided his ability to talk to kids. Normally the kids are cutting him a break though.
“No, actually. It’s kind of a long story.” You admit, eyes suddenly aware of all the people in the room. “I did a book report on you last year though. Modern civil rights activism.”
Kareem is beaming at you now, asking which books you used as material.
“Y/N’s doing very well in school. Taking college level classes.” Beecher’s already bragging about you like you’re his.
“I don’t understand.” Kareem asks after a minute. “What exactly is Y/N’s relation to you all?”
Everyone flounders. Chris hasn’t stopped tapping his foot nervously since the conversation began.
“Oh for Christ’s sake. Y/N is pop’s kid.”
“Holly!” Beecher admonishes. She shrugs, as if to say ‘it’s true though’.
“Which ex wife?” Kareem asks bitterly. Keller gives him a bombastic side eye.
“Two and four; Bonnie.”
“You married my mom twice?” You ask confusedly. Keller shrugs.
“In my defense, she said yes four times. Twice to will you marry me, twice to will you divorce me.”
“I see two wise decisions in there.” Kareem picks, pinching the bridge of his nose in his fingers.
“Can I ask a question?” You raise your hand like a school kid. The adults immediately soften. Despite your maturity, you were still a kid.
“Please do.” Kareem gestures you forward, taking a sip of the ice tea Beecher made him.
(Beecher makes amazing iced teas. Helped him quit drinking on the outside. He made them from loose leaf. Today was hibiscus and pear.)
“I know you all were in prison. Oz, right? That’s were my da…” he hadn’t told you that you could call him that yet. “That’s where Mr. Keller met Mr. Beecher. And you?”
He explained the godfather situation and looked fondly at Beecher.
“Though Tobias lives far outside what Allah would consider the correct path, I know my brother has more love and passion in his heart than anyone. He’s got a beautiful family.”
You feel tears start to well up in your eyes. This was all still a lot for you. You just wished your dad was the one saying all this.
“I provide Tobias with spiritual counsel. Upon request, I will provide you the same.”
“Thank you.” You’re a little choked up. “Thank you all. I know this has got to be weird. But… I just needed to know who else was out there.”
“It’s like uncle Ryan says; ‘you can pick your nose but you can’t pick your family’.”
“Please never quote uncle Ryan at the table again, sweetie.” Beecher asks, Said responding with a low chuckle.
“Who’s uncle Ryan?” -you
“Your dad’s friend.” -Kareem
“Not my dad’s. My pop’s.” -Holly
“He was kind of my friend.” -Tobias
“So my dad and my pop’s.” -Holly
“Third base.” -you
“Third base.” -Keller, under his breath.
Your eyes lock. He stares away after a moment.
You do have his eyes.
You and Holly wash up with uncle Kareem after dinner. Toby readies the family room with Chris.
“Is everything alright, Y/N?” Kareem asked you, drying a dish Holly handed him.
“He/she/they’re worried that pop doesn’t like him/her/them.”
“She’s right.” You’re mentally kicking yourself right now. “I mean if I had a whole new awesome family and the old one just showed up…”
“You’re a part of this whole new awesome family, dingus.” Holly squirts some water at you. You dodge and it hits the minister.
You apologize profusely! (Holly doesn’t but she’s gotten used to him by now.)
His OCD is screaming at the soap suds in his shirt but he waves it off.
“Holly is very wise for her age. Family, I’ve learned, doesn’t just look like one thing. Ours is not a traditional family, but I’ve grown proud to be a part of it.”
Kareem has his arms around Holly, looking down at her eyes exactly like her dad’s. He’d gone to every spelling bee and every birthday party and every science fair and soccer game and so on for this kid. He loved her like his own niece. That said, revenge is revenge. He traps her arms behind her and looks to you.
“Go, Y/N!”
You gently slash soapy water on her as Kareem holds her in place. Her giggled can be heard from the living room.
Toby is getting the fruit bowl out and the couch cushions just right as Keller looks on streaming services to find something to watch.
“Earth to Mr. Mopey.”
“Not tonight, Toby, I’m fuckin exhausted.”
“Chris.” He sits down next to his man, running his hand up Chris’s thigh. “You and I took a prison revenge honey pot and turned it into a family. Schillinger is rotting away, and you and I have a daughter we love, friends that love her, and now we have someone new to love. And he/she/they even have your eyes.”
He pauses for a second, hand on his hair, musing.
“Think it would be weird to ask Y/N for baby photos for the family album?”
“Alright, sparky, settle down. You can’t keep ‘em.”
Beecher asks what he means.
“I’m glad this was fun for you for a day, but Y/N can’t stay forever. He/she/they’ve got their own family.”
“So our family just doubled in a day. I thought we’d have to wait for Holly and Adebayo to do that. After all the people we’ve lost in and out of Oz, isn’t it amazing that our family is growing?”
Keller sighed. Beecher moves so that he’s sitting in Keller’s lap.
“What’s the matter, big guy? You love Holly. Legally adopted her. What’s the difference?”
“She’s your kid. I mean, she’s mine too, but there’s none of my poison rattling around in there. She gets good grades, keeps her nose clean. That’s all you. Y/N could be anything. Because at that age, I was doing anything.”
“You’re worried Y/N’s gonna be like you?”
Keller nods, wiping away at a dewey eye.
“You know what… I hope so.” Beecher says resolutely. Keller scoffs but just tries to steady himself before you guys enter.
You watch a little Cheers after dinner. Holly is cuddling with Kareem, who is getting the best of both worlds living his vicarious dad fantasy though Beecher’s kid.
Toby and Chris are cuddled up.
You look at them, happy but still wishing for any sort of affection from your dad.
After, the three adults stay downstairs to talk, Beecher leaving for a second to tuck Holly in.
She hugs the others goodnight.
“Goodnight uncle Kareem.”
“Goodnight, beautiful girl.”
“Goodnight pop!”
“Night, hon.”
Beecher tucks Holly in. He shows you to the guest room.
“Are you too old to be tucked in?” Beecher asks cautiously. You laugh and shake your head no with tears in your eyes.
“Good. I was hoping I didn’t miss that time with you.”
He tucks you in and kisses you on the head.
“Give your dad some time. He’ll come around. He’s just anxious.”
You nod but you don’t believe him.
“Mr. Beecher?”
“If it’s not crossing a line, I’d actually prefer you call me dad.”
You nod and mouth a thank you.
“Thank you, Dad.”
“I talked with your dad. He said you can stay here as long as you want.”
He turns out the light and blows a kiss.
Meanwhile, in the bat cave.
Chris and Kareem are sitting silently on the couch for some time.
“I will, once again, offer you the same spiritual counsel I offer your… Beecher.”
“My Beecher and I appreciate that.” Keller responds, dryly. “What exactly was the sos call this time?”
To be continued!

Oh yeah, shitty analysis time Yi Sang- Sylph of Mind Sylph is a healing class and Yi Sang's arc is about him healing and getting over depression and such, growing his wings yknow healing his mind even heh Faust- Seer of Light She relies on alternate versions of herself to know the future. Sure, sometimes she doesn't and accepts the unknown but she still usually wants to know what's going on. Don Quixote- Knight of Hope Okay this one and Gregor's fit the best imo, Don is associated with knights ofc and with dreaming which fits hope but also in Homestuck knights use the aspect which their session lacks (Dave with time, they literally did most of their sburb stuff in like a day, and Karkat with blood/bonds, they literally killed each other bro) and pm games are very much not filled with hope, why would you be hopeful in the city this place is dreary as hell. Ryoshu- Witch of Heart Witches are really strong and heart has to do with the self, Ryoshu does not really care for many others really, in her source book Yoshihide does not care about anyone except for his daughter and himself lmao yeah this one kinda sucks, some of these are just cuz I didn't wanna repeat any classes/aspects Meursault- Maid of Void Maids work for others, they may lack autonomy. Both Aradia and Jane are used by others. Meursault kind of just does what other people tell him to do and also is mysterious and I barely know anything about this guy so void. Hong Lu- Bard of Space "Those bound to the aspect of Space are, as the name suggests, concerned with the big picture. They are patient, masters of the art of 'wait-and-see', and are inclined to take things as they come...At their worst, they can be detached, apathetic, and vague." -Extended Zodiac on Space. ALSO all the characters with space are associated with Green. (Jade with her name and eyecolor, Kanaya and Porrim are both jade bloods, and Callie has lime green blood) Yeah I know Hong Lu is cyan and not green, but his symbol is a jade and his eye is probably also a jade and like. cmon close enough lemme have this. Anyways the Bard part is cuz he's a silly billy. Not actually it's cuz he has the whole two thing going on and Gamzee flip flops between two different personalities, one all chill and one fucking crazy. I wouldn't doubt if Hong Lu has a separate personality that is not all chill like he is pretending to be. This is probably the weakest one honestly LMAO. (1/2, Tumblr won't let me post the full thing in one reblog because it's a BITCH)

Hello! I was wondering if you could make a part 2 of the Senku Oneshot you made? I loved it a bit too much and was asking myself whether I should ask, so here I am! (Ps. I'm not the same person that requested that Oneshot.) Male reader, you can choose what kind it can be (fluff,lime,etc.). Only if your available of course!
Also, Senku is just a good underrated character, no questions asked, he's hot.
Hope you have a wonderful day!
-Achlys
Senku x Dom. Male Reader

Sure, it's been a few weeks since I wrote on here, it'll be a good comeback! I feel like it wasn't as good as 1, but I hope you still like it!

🌡Take a Break Pt.2🌡(Dr.Stone)
Warnings: Lime-ish, Soft Senku, aged-up Senku, fluff, shorter than part 1
You both awake from your nap, but before Senku can get back to work...he has to recover first.
☆*: .。. .。.:*☆☆*: .。. .。.:*☆☆*: .。. .。.:*☆☆*: .。. .。.:*☆☆*: .。. .。.:*☆
You'd seen Senku asleep, so now it was his turn.
His eyes slowly opened with a cute squint, yawning into a chest.
He blushed...your chest.
What you both did became fresh in his mind.
Senku rested his head in his palm, leaning on his arms, and tilting his head to look at you.
"[Name] looks cute when he's sleeping..."
He switched his balance to one arm, brushing a thumb against your long lashes.
He dragged it your parted lips, he moves forward, ghosting his lips against yours.
"I should get to work, I don't know how long I've been sleeping."
The scientist sat up on your torso--you'd both fallen asleep on the ground--and quickly stood up and took a step forward...
Which was a mistake on his part.
"Ugh-!"
Your 'My Baby Senku' senses had just tingled and fortunately, you woke just in time to catch him.
You blinked slowly, still waking up, "You 'kay?"
"I can't walk," he complained from your lap.
You pouted, nuzzling into his neck and leaving little kisses, "M'sorry, sweetheart."
Senku's ears went red, "I'm not mad..."
Was this really the guy who'd just railed him not that long ago? The duality.
"Shame. You're...cute when you're mad."
He was the cute one? No, you were cute.
You chuckled, "Did you just call me cute?"
He turned red and looked away, "No!"
Your hands slid up and down his waist, "It's okay, we can both be cute."
Damn, now he didn't want to leave.
Senku rested his head on your shoulder, "Aren't you supposed to feed me and shit?"
He could hear the smirk in your voice, "I thought you were fed enough when you so greedily took me in your m-"
Senku covered your mouth, "Don't finish that sentence."
You laughed, your eyes crinkling in delight.
He swears that was one of the most beautiful sounds in his world.
Airy, smooth, deep, but in a heart-warming type of way. He loved making you laugh. He moved his hand away to hear it better.
"Want a massage?" You teased after settling down.
"[Name] you're not going to massage my ass."
"Why not?" You questioned with a pout.
"Because Ten Billion percent we'll go another round if you do."
You raised a brow, "I can handle it just fine...Or do you want another round~?"
He did, probably later though.
"Shut up."
"I can massage your thighs."
You were going to make Senku lightheaded at this rate, how hot you kept making his face.
"What?"
You gave him a loving grin, "I just want to make you feel better, Senku."
His cheeks redness didn't lessen...you'd said those words before...Senku couldn't help but remember how suggestive it had been.
"You don't have to be embarrassed, I'm innocent--well, I'm not, but my intent is."
"...Fine..."
☆*: .。. .。.:*☆☆*: .。. .。.:*☆☆*: .。. .。.:*☆☆*: .。. .。.:*☆
"This actually feels nice."
You intently focused on massaging his thighs, but it wasn't making it any better.
The bottom of the coat was lifted to around his stomach, his gentle sighs, the pleasurable expression on his face.
You were going to keep your promise and keep this innocent because 1: You're not an absolute horndog that can't control himself and just jump on Senku like that, 2: You really want Senku to feel better.
"That's good, feel relaxed?"
"Mhm."
Senku honestly wasn't doing too well either, but he was trying to not imagine if your hand rode just a little higher and stayed there.
"Good. That's all I want."
"Fuck it, [Name] please kiss me. That'd make me feel better."
You glanced up from your focus on his thighs, "Huh?"
He sat up and shyly pecked your lips, "K-kiss me, idiot."
You smiled, tilting his chin up, "I can never get tired of this."
You shared a soft kiss, loving, although neither of you had said the words. He leaned back a little, you're over him, making him feel covered, safe.
And when the kiss intensified, taking hurried breaths because you didn't want to stop, you realized that you could do this forever.
Senku gripped your hair as his legs wrapped around your waist, desperately he needed you as close as possible.
You shuddered as he tugged and slid his hands down your back, his fingers brushing over the long scratches he left from before.
"Damn, I really fucking love you, Senku--" you muttered against his lips.
You both froze...you'd said it.
You pulled away, embarrassed, "I-uh--Maybe I should just g-"
Senku grabbed your shirt, "...I love you too, [Name]. Don't leave."
You looked into each other's eyes, newfound emotion swirling through them.
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
And when you kissed again, there was a completely different fire than before, stronger. The feeling of knowing the love was mutual.
Your kisses grew ravenous, your breaths shaky, your hands needy. You needed to get as close as your bodies physically could.
"[Name]," Senku whined, clawing at your shirt.
"Tell me what you need, baby."
"You."

for the sleepover, may I request with Remus with a baby sister that the marauders like the baby because she's so precious and cute she needs to be protected? basically, she gains more brothers.
foams at the mouth
i love sister requests
listen yeah yeah they’ll be protective and all
but you realize that they’ll be annoying too, right
like ofc if they see you crying because of a stinky boy they will punch him
but i’m sorry, are you trying to study?
can’t do that without your book, now it’s in Sirius's underwear drawer and you’ll have to go get it yourself if you want it back
james teaches you how to play quidditch tbh
is so proud of you like you pick up the quaffle he’s like star player material you just won the cup
Sirius is a tERRIBLE INFLUENCE
remus tries to never let you be in the same room with sirius alone for any longer than ten minutes
he really fails hard at that but
tbh you and sirius give each other stick and pokes
but like
stupid ones
sirius tattoos a penis on your hip and you put ‘#1 belieber’ over his wrist
also sirius pierces your ears and you pierce his okay i’m sorry this just would happen
you guys go shopping for jewelery together </3
sometimes james tries on your skirts to tease you but
he likes them
a lot
🥰
remus walks in one day to you trying to get your skirt off of james bc you gotta go to class and he is putting up an amazing fight
and the two of you look at him and just
‘Hi remus’
remus stares for like a solid minute
and then just
leaves
teachers are both delighted and terrified by you
because you know what
you’re just as respectful as remus
and you’re an angel to them
but you cannot tell me that sirius and james aren’t those kids to walk into the middle of not their own class to say hi to their friends and then bother everyone
“Morning Minerva!”
“You two aren’t supposed to be here for three more hours.”
“Early bird gets the worm, as they say. Oh, hi Y/N. Fancy meeting you here!”
as awful as sirius is
he really tries hard to keep you in line
if he sees you drinking, smoking, doing drugs, etc
even if he does the thing daily
he’s gonna get on you about it
and so will the rest of them
Remus is terrified of what the three of you do when he’s not there, but deep down he knows that they care about you just as much as he does, and that no harm is gonna come to you if they’re around
he trusts them with you, he really does
bonus points if you get your heart broken and they’re holding themselves back from screaming at the person and/or breaking their face
if you’re on a date you’ll see a giant black dog and a whole entire deer peeking out from the trees next to you </3

Thanks for the tag! <33
1. 3 ships: Frankly Dear, huntlow (in honor of my sister), and fluffybird. I used to hate fluffybird bird, but fanart and headcannons have swayed my ways.
2. First ever ship? Probably Nya and Jay from way back when I used to watch Ninjago with my brother
3. The last song I listened to was, I believe, SNAP, but idk who sings it and I am genuinely too lazy to go look
4. The last movie I watched was Elementals. My siblings had a party last night, and since I was worn out from my day shift with no break, I hid in my room and watched tv, but in the process attracted a small group of young kids who had surprisingly deep commentary to share on the movie
5. I'm currently reading Fairy Tale by Steven King. It's very very good, but I keep getting busy or distracted and long story short its about 3 weeks late at the library...
6. Currently watching. Like right this very second? Downton Abbey, but I don't like it very much. My sister does and that's why I'm here. There's a reason I'm scrolling on tumblr and not paying attention tho
7. Currently consuming. I just had a lunch of frito pie, avocado toast (with lime salt and pepper, fantastic) and a pickle
8. Currently craving. I'm very full so no food sounds good to me, but I wanna draw so baaaaadddd. But I'm so tired. Maybe I'll write instead
@spoopy-spooks @amazing-spiderlad and that's it cause yall special <3 (not really, ofc yall are special but im too lazy to go look at my moots list)
9 people you would like to get to know better
tysm for the tag @alexmey-does-an-arts!
1. 3 ships; bowuigi, metadede, heavy/medic(I forget the name lol)
2. first ever ship; alphyne
3. last song; Ghost Cowboys by Louie Zong

Us Fragile Things ― September, part one.
Tumblr media
in which Valerie Martin and Billy Hargrove find each other for the first time in four years in a dive bar and realize the difference those four years can make.
an explicit Billy Hargrove x OFC fic. rating: explicit, 18+ word count: 10.6k cross posted to AO3. warnings: alcohol/tobacco use, unprotected sex, oral sex, fingering, vaginal sex
SEPTEMBER 1ST, 1989
Leaning back against the brick wall of the outside of the bar, Valerie Martin watched her friend cup her hands around her eyes to stare into the dark bar that was their usual hangout. It was chilly for the first of September, and she shivered slightly, wishing she’d thought to bring a jacket.
“I think they’re closed, Char,” Valerie told her with a sigh, watching as Charlotte pulled on the door handle again for good measure.
“Yeah, I know,” she said, her purple painted lips pouting as she turned around to face Valerie. “I’ve just been thinking about a $1 margarita all day, and now I feel cheated.”
Valerie huffed out a laugh as Charlotte walked away from the door with slumped shoulders.
“Do you want to try another bar, or did you just want to head straight to Amy’s? I’m fine with going home, doesn’t matter to me,” she told her roommate, imagining a quiet night to herself on the sofa at home. She’d spent more than half an hour on her hair and make up to go out, but she hardly hated the thought changing out of her heels and tights and into sweatpants.
“We’ll try somewhere else!” Charlotte was quick to say, already nodding as she looked each way down the sidewalk. “It’s our senior year, and we’re not breaking our tradition of first Friday shots just because Pinky’s is closed.” Her tone was firm, invoking the mention of tradition to keep Valerie from weaseling her way out of drinks. “Besides, this is the first year we’ve both been legal to do it, so it was supposed to be extra fun and public.”
Charlotte was like that, all about tradition and pomp and circumstance. They’d been a random pairing for roommates their freshman year of college and had barely spoken their first week until Charlotte pulled out a bottle of vodka and poured them each a healthy shot, declaring it a celebration of making it through their first week of classes. They became fast friends after that and decided to live together through the rest of their college years, becoming best friends in the process.
Valerie didn’t try to argue with her and mirrored her friend in looking up and down the street. Downtown was quieter tonight than she’d expected for a college town, “I’m pretty sure there’s a bar over on Dorsey. I’ve never been, so I’m not sure what it’s like, but I’m sure it’ll work for first Friday shots. Plus, it’s closer to Amy’s,” she said, nodding in the direction of the bar.
“Okay, yeah, that sounds good. I’ll hang around for a drink or two, then head to Amy’s,” Charlotte agreed, nodding as she linked her arm with Valerie’s to step away from Pinky’s.
As they walked, their heels clicked against the pavement, but they were silent otherwise, and Valerie’s mind wandered to how different things would be a year from now. In 365 days, she intended to be starting her first year of teaching, and Charlotte would be starting law school. Neither of them really knew where they’d end up after this year, and it scared Valerie a little more than she’d like to admit, not sure she was ready to be on her own for the first time.
The bar was well hidden between the other downtown shops that Valerie almost missed it, and as soon as she opened the door, she felt out of place. Pinky’s bordered on trendy and was usually full of college kids, but this place, who’s name Valerie couldn’t even remember, seemed hidden on purpose. It became clear quite quickly that she and Charlotte were the youngest people in the bar, which seemed to be filled with townies for the most part. Like an episode of Cheers , it felt like the whole bar seemed to turn and look at them as they walked in.
Charlotte, never one to be bothered by standing out, spotted a table in the back and pulled Valerie along with her. Most of the patrons were male, a few of them turning their heads to watch as the two of them slipped past on their way to the table. The bar was heavy with smoke and buzzing with chatter and scattered laughs. When she sat down and looked around a little more, Valerie started to feel overdressed in her heavy v-neck sweater and tight corduroy skirt she wore over snagged tights.
“Are we still sticking to vodka, like always?” Charlotte asked, still standing in anticipation of going up to the bar.
“Fine by me. Get a slice of lime too, and a PBR please,” Valerie said, making a mental note to pay her roommate back later, even if she wouldn’t take it. Charlotte nodded, smiling as she turned to go up to the bar in her tight jeans and equally tight neon blue tanktop.
Left alone for the moment, Valerie tapped her thumb against the wooden table top idly, glancing around again. This time she noticed a few people closer to their age and felt a little more at ease. There were a group of guys probably in their early to mid-twenties at the far end of the bar, and the shoulders and hair of one seemed weirdly familiar. Before she could take longer to try and place the familiarity, Charlotte returned, drinks in hand.
Valerie thanked her roommate quietly as the blonde put her requested items down in front of her before taking a seat across the table. She’d matched Valerie’s own order, smiling as she picked up her shot glass and opened her mouth.
“Time for the speech?” Valerie teased, cutting the girl off before she could even start. The comment earned her a gentle kick under the table, and they each laughed as Charlotte held the shot glass even higher.
“Of course it is, who do you think I am?” she responded, clearing her throat as he eyebrows knit together briefly. Valerie couldn’t help but roll her eyes, grinning as she too picked up her shot glass. “Three years ago, we barely knew each other, but we made it through our first week of college together. In those three years, I feel like we’ve earned the upgrade from Burnett’s to Grey Goose, and a lot has changed since then, obviously. I was in the closet, you were still a virgin.” It was Valerie’s turn to kick her under the table lightly at that, and Charlotte paused to laugh with her again. “But, here we are, our last official first Friday shots before we’re actual grown ups, and we’ve made it this far, together, and now we’ll take this shot, together, so cheers, I guess?” She ended her speech with a shrug and another quick laugh then clinking her glass against Valerie’s, and they both swallowed the shot in one go.
Grimacing as the vodka went down, Valerie reached for the lime in front of her to she sucked the juice from it to chase the liquor. Her face was twisted into a stupid expression, doing her best not to full body shudder from the shot, and she turned her said to the side, just as the familiar boy with strong shoulders and honey colored curls turned as well and looked right at her.
The shock of recognition hit Valerie hard, making her gasp and sending lime juice down the wrong pipe to make her choke. Her reaction was completely obvious and she still coughing as she turned back Charlotte who looked concerned. Her coughing caught the attention of one of the older townies at the bar who also turned to look at her before his attention returned to the beer bottle in front of him.
“Are you okay?” Charlotte asked, frowning slightly as Valerie opened her can of beer to take a drink once she was able to breath properly.
“Yeah,” Valerie croaked, clearing her throat and taking another sip of beer. God, her face was absolutely burning, and she could feel it all the way down her neck. “The guy at the bar, in the green shirt. I went to high school with him. I thought he looked familiar before I even saw his face, but it just surprised me that it was actually him, I guess.” Valerie couldn’t stop herself from sinking into her chair a little more, pushing her wavy, dark hair out of her face.
Charlotte’s eyebrows rose in interest and turned her head just enough to discreetly look in the direction that had sent her best friend into such a state of shock. “With the blonde hair?” she clarified and Valerie nodded. “Yeah, he’s still looking over here…and there he goes, his attention’s back on his friends for now.” Her shoulders relaxed slightly at that news and she took a long drink of beer as Charlotte finally opened hers. “He’s cute. What’s his name?”
“Billy Hargrove. And he knows he’s cute, trust me,” Valerie told her, scoffing quietly as her mind wandered back to Hawkins High School, over an hour away. She wished she could say she had forgotten all about Billy Hargrove, that he never crossed her mind, but that would certainly be a lie. He liked to creep into her thoughts late at night with those gorgeous eyes and his pouty mouth, making her wish she was bold and wild like he had always been.
“Yeah, I can tell just by looking at him,” Charlotte responded, unable to stop herself from laughing a little. She nudged Valerie under the table again, grinning as she sipped at her own beer. “Was he mean to you?”
“He was kind of the type that was mean to everyone, I guess, but he never like, targeted me or anything. He graduated a year ahead of me, so we only had one class together,” Valerie explained, remembering the lingering smell of smoke and his cologne that she’d gotten so used to during the semester they’d been lab partners in chemistry.
“Hm,” Charlotte responded, nodding as she mulled the words over. “You gonna just ignore him?”
“I planned on it, yeah,” she admitted, shrugging as she straightened her back some.
“Good.” The word came with a wide smile from the blonde who knocked her beer can against Valerie’s with a soft metallic clink .
The two of them chatted comfortably for a while, nursing their beers as they felt the Grey Goose shots hit. Charlotte was her usual happy self, talking about what Jerry, the asshole in all of her economics courses, had said earlier while Valerie tried to forget about the blast from the past up at the bar. She was only half listening really, trying to remember the last time she’d even seen Billy Hargrove. His graduation, probably. She had heard he’d picked up a job at the Hawkins pool that summer and in turn, avoided that place like nobody’s business.
Just as she was tipping the PBR back to swallow the last of it, the bartender brought over another beer and sat it in front of her.
“I didn’t order this,” Valerie was quick to say, practically leaning back from the can on the table.
“A guy at the bar sent it over, said he thinks he knows you,” the man told her with a shrug that said ‘I’m just doing my job.’ As the bartender stepped away, he took the empty shot glasses and beer cans with him, one of each stained with Charlotte’s purple lipstick and the rim of the others stained with the wine color of Valerie’s.
The man’s words made Charlotte let out a bark of laughter as soon as he stepped away, bringing a hand up to cover her mouth a second later as Valerie grimaced. “Damn, and I was just gonna get up to head to Amy’s,” Charlotte said, sounding truly disappointed that contact had been made right as she was about to leave. She sighed softly, glancing at the watch on her wrist. “I can stay if you want me to.” Her tone was almost hopeful and she was grinning in a way that said she herself wanted to stay to see how it all unfolded.
Valerie thought on it for a moment, pressing her lips together before shaking her head. “No, it’s alright, go see your girlfriend. I’ll probably head home soon anyway. Tell Amy I said hi,” she said, smiling as convincingly as she could manage. Charlotte pouted a bit but shrugged, getting to her feet and coming around to hug Valerie from the side.
“Okay,” she said, dragging the word out as an exaggerated whine then grinning wildly. “I’ll see you tomorrow!” Valerie nodded and matched her roommate’s smile as the girl took off.
With Charlotte gone, Valerie reached for the beer in front of her, opening it as she ran her tongue along her teeth and took a drink. She was doing her best to will herself not to turn around and look to see if Billy was still there, but the buzz of the shot and the first beer made it harder not to give into that urge. If she knew what was good for her, she would’ve left with Charlotte and walked home, pretending that she hadn’t seen or thought of Billy Hargrove at all. She didn’t want to know him anymore, didn’t want to know anything about Hawkins, Indiana, didn’t want to be or know the person she was when he’d last seen her.
Tipsy and stewing in the thoughts she usually buried until late at night when she was thinking about endless ‘what if’s, Valerie didn’t notice Billy walking toward her table until it was too late. He stood behind Charlotte’s empty chair, both hands on it like he was contemplating sitting down as he looked at her. Valerie blinked at him, just barely tilting her head up and hoping she didn’t look too wide-eyed. From his expression, she gathered he was still trying to place who she was.
“Thanks for the drink,” she said finally, raising her eyebrows once before taking a sip of the beer in her hand. He looked so good that she was surprised she hadn’t stumbled over the words. His hair was a little shorter than she remembered and he was, so far, lacking the passive scowl he’d always worn.
Billy scoffed, grinning with the slightest hint of a dimple. “Is that really all you’re gonna give me here?” he said, clearly dragging his tongue along the edge of his teeth.
“You gonna sit down?” Valerie asked, straightening up in her seat in an effort to look more confident than she actually felt.
She watched as Billy’s jaw clenched briefly as he looked back toward his friends still at the bar, then pulled the chair out to sit down. Somehow, Valerie decided, this was worse. He seemed closer now, much more in her space, and she subconsciously tucked her feet under her chair as if accidentally nudging him would make him vanish into thin air. Billy was still looking at her and she swore she could hear the gears churning in his head.
“I know that I know you,” he said, leaning forward in his seat with his elbows on the table. Valerie nodded once, the corners of her mouth aching with the urge to grin. “If I buy you another drink, will you give me a hint?”
Damn, that was a smooth line.
“Get me the drink first,” she said, a smug smile sliding onto her face. Thank god for alcohol, honestly. As she took a long sip of the beer in her hand to finish it off, Valerie couldn’t help but feel powerful and mysterious as she set the empty can down on the table top.
Billy looked impressed, nodding once just as Valerie had earlier, and got to his feet. “You want another beer, or a shot of whatever it was you choked on earlier?” The question caught her off guard as he lingered at the table and she laughed, bringing a hand up to tuck her hair behind her ear.
“Vodka shot, with a lime wedge,” Valerie said, actually smiling a little this time. He didn’t say anything else before starting towards the bar, and Valerie let herself exhale. None of this felt real, and she found herself staring at Billy’s back as he stood at the bar, wondering if he’d disappear otherwise.
“If I’m being honest here, I never thought Val Martin would be one to shoot vodka,” he said when he returned, offering a wink as he sat the shot glass and lime down in front of her. Valerie’s head had shot up to meet his eye at the mention of the nickname, realizing he had been the last, and only person, to call her that.
“Took you long enough,” she responded as Billy took his seat across from her again. He held her gaze, and smirked. “Let me guess, so many girls, so little time?” There was a teasing tone to her voice, enjoying the chance to potentially bring his ego down a bit.
“Ouch, that was brutal,” Billy said, putting a hand on his heart as he leaned back in his chair a little. He’d gotten a shot for himself as well, a brown liquor, but she wasn’t sure exactly what.
“What did you think my shot of choice was then?” Valerie asked, leaning into the table a little a she picked up her shot glass.
“Tequila. Jack, maybe,” he said, shrugging slightly as he grinned. He mirrored her action, picking up his shot all while maintaining eye contact with her. “Cheers to the angel who’s the only reason I graduated.”
Valerie couldn’t argue with that. With a tight smile, she brought her glass to clink against his, and they only looked away from each other to swallow down the shots. Her face pinched as she sucked on the lime a second later, opening her eyes again to find Billy watching her, just glad she hadn’t choked this time.
With the empty glasses on the table, they were both silent for a moment, and knew that Billy hadn’t been exaggerating what he’d said. He’d told her the same thing after their chemistry final.
“I never thought I’d see you anywhere near Indiana again, dead or alive,” Valerie said to break the silence. Her buzz was growing, and she leaned to rest an elbow on the table, resting her chin in her palm as she looked at him. She was pretty sure he’d swore that exact thing to her at least twice before.
“I left for a while after high school, moved back to California for a couple of years,” he explained, hesitating just slightly and stopping there for a moment. “I just moved to town a couple of months ago. My sister’s just started college here, it was cheaper for us to move here together and get a place.”
“Max, right? I sat next to her at graduation,” Valerie said, but she knew she was right. She remembered how firmly he’d remind people that Max was his step -sister, not his sister. People usually learned pretty quickly not to make that mistake again.
“You came to my graduation?” Billy asked, his eyebrows coming together in an expression she couldn’t quite read.
Valerie’s cheeks flushed slightly and she pursed her lips. “You weren’t the only one graduating, y’know. My brother, Ian, was in your class,” she informed him, leaning back in her seat as she crossed her arms over her chest.
Billy nodded and was quiet for a moment. “Do you go here too?” he said finally, meeting her eye as he toyed with his empty shot glass idly.
The question surprised her. She’d never heard Billy Hargrove ask someone a question about themselves so casually like that. Thinking back, she wasn’t even sure he’d ever asked her anything about herself, period.
“Yeah, I’m graduating with my education degree in May,” she told him, and the grin that spread across his face made her heart race inside her chest.
“You gonna be a chemistry teacher?” he asked, and Valerie couldn’t help the way she laughed girlishly as she shook her head.
“Social studies is my focus, so I can teach history, and geography. Stuff like that,” she explained, his gaze on her so intent that it took effort not to squirm in her seat.
“You’ll be a good teacher,” he said after a pause with such sincerity that 17 year old Valerie would’ve never thought he could muster. The compliment made her cheeks turn rosy and she smiled, feeling the same warmth in her chest as when he had thanked her for her help after their chemistry final.
Valerie had forgotten how….entrancing it was to hold Billy Hargrove’s full attention like this. He’d always been so easily distracted by a passing pretty face or short skirt, always being greeted by passerbyers in the library when she’d helped him with his chemistry work that there had been a few times they’d had to meet in empty classrooms just to get him to focus. Being alone with him, it was easy to tell why he did so well for himself with the ladies. He had this way of making girls feel like they were the only person in the world, the only person he’d ever even seen. Even now, it was working like a charm, leaving Valerie willing to do backflips or cartwheels just to keep his attention like this.
“What about you, huh? What are you doing with your life now that you’re back in our fine Hoosier state?” Valerie asked after collecting herself a little, an easy smile on her face. She was toeing the line of drunkenness, waiting for that last shot to hit.
Billy grimaced at the mention of the state nickname, shaking his head. “Don’t ever fucking say that word around me again,” he said, his tone light as he cracked a grin. Valerie actually laughed, nodding in agreement before he continued. “I picked up a factory gig in Hawkins when we were living there, and absolutely fucking hated it. When we moved up here, I worked a few odd jobs, but I started a full time spot in the kitchen in that fancy hotel by the interstate a few weeks ago, mostly doing prep stuff.”
It was such a mundane conversation, but Valerie was practically hanging on every word he said. She was back to resting her chin in her hand, leaning into the table and smiling idly as she listened. Honestly, she wasn’t sure if she was just drunk or if this Billy was different somehow. She hasn’t seen him scowl once, hasn’t sense even a tinge of the ever present anger that had absolutely hung around him like a dark cloud in high school.
“How did Max do with her first week of classes?” Valerie asked, hearing her words just barely slur at the end.
Billy shrugged, sighing. “Fine, I guess. She’s mostly taking gen eds, and is already bitching about that writing course that all of the freshmen have to take.”
Valerie scrunched her nose up at the memory of that class, looking down at her empty shot glass as she fiddled with it nervously. “Yeah, that one fucking sucks. Let her know I’m happy to help if she wants me to proofread or anything for her.” She looked up and met Billy’s eye easily, knowing her face was flushed.
“I’ll tell her, and she’ll probably take you up on that. She’s still a little pissed at me for telling her to go to college in the first place,” he admitted, laughing once as he glanced toward the group he’d started the night with.
“Do you need to get back to your friends?” Valerie asked, licking her lips quickly as she glanced at the clock on the wall. It was nearly midnight already, surprised by how long they spent sitting there and catching up.
“Nah, they’ll be alright. They’re guys I work with, still don’t know some of their names yet,” he said, shrugging one shoulder as he leaned back in his chair a little more. Valerie was having a hard time taking her eyes off him and she nodded, her toes curling inside her heels as he held her gaze.
“I’m surprised to find the former keg king of Hawkins hanging out at some townie bar like this when you could be chasing tail at a party closer to campus,” she told him, biting her lip.
Billy grinned and shifted in his seat again. “Believe it or not, that’s not really my scene anymore,” he said and had the audacity to wink at her.
Valerie’s eyebrows shot up, looking impressed as she nodded. “If I hadn’t seen it myself, I would never have believed it,” she responded, her hand coming up to tuck her hair behind her ear. “If I had a drink, I’d suggest a toast to personal growth, but obviously, I’m out and not in need of any more alcohol tonight.” She was smiling by the end of it, giggling slightly in a way that she’d hate herself for if she was sober. Billy laughed with her and the sound warmed her to the core.
“I could say the same about you though, honestly. All dressed up and gorgeous to hang in this dive? Doesn’t sound much like the Val I remember,” he said, sucking his teeth as he looked her over once with that slow gaze that made her forget how to breathe.
And there it was, the flirting, the cocky attitude, and the tone that had lured in so many girls in Hawkins. She’d been sucked right into it and was damn near helpless to stop it. It was like the thing about throwing frogs into boiling water and they jump out, but if you put them in the pot and gradually raise the temperature, they don’t realize the trap until it’s too late.
Had this all been a trap? Curiosity was already eating at her, wondering what had made him change like this. If he has actually changed at all. Calling Max his sister, speaking so freely about himself and asking personal questions about herself were far from things the Billy she remembered would do so willingly, let alone with a smile. Was this all a gimmick, and he was just telling her what she wanted to hear? It certainly wouldn’t be the first time he’d made that ploy work for himself.
“Well, it didn’t seem like you remembered me at all, so what do you know?” she shot back with a crooked smile as soon as she remembered how to string together a sentence. Valerie was trying to sound playful but wasn’t sure it came across that way. Billy seemed surprised by the words, but that didn’t stop him from grinning. “I only ended up here because our usual bar was closed for some reason. I came out with my roommate earlier, but she took off for her girlfriend’s for the night.”
Billy nodded slowly, licking his lips before he leaned forward so his elbows were resting against the table top. Valerie’s drunken instinct told her to lean back, but she held her ground, keeping eye contact with him until his gaze dropped to her mouth.
“Small fucking world, huh? And you’ve got no boyfriend of your own to keep you occupied tonight?” he asked, his voice low like it was a secret to be shared between them.
Valerie let out a huff of laughter. “That’s an awfully bold question,” she said, trying to ignore the way her heart was pounding in her chest.
“Just trying to do my due diligence before asking if you wanna get out of here,” he responded, leaning forward even more as Valerie sucked in a breath and froze.
The sounds of the bar around them had faded out and she found herself fighting the urge to lean forward more, just as he had. She was practically hanging on every word that left that plush mouth of his, forgetting that it was her turn to say something.
The laugh that bubbled from her surprised Valerie even, bringing a hand up to her mouth to cover the sound. “Are you serious?” she asked, grinning widely.
Billy frowned slightly, wondering if he was about to get shut down completely. “Yeah?” he responded with a slightly defensive edge to his voice.
“Thought that wasn’t your scene anymore,” she said, tilting her head up a little more in an effort to seem confident, like she wasn’t warm all over at the thought of him taking her home.
“Just because I don’t party much anymore doesn’t mean I’m not gonna jump at the chance to take you home and thank you properly for carrying my ass through high school chemistry.” His grin had returned, like a lion playing with its food.
Valerie’s back stiffened, realizing he was completely serious. Biting the inside of her cheek, she tried to think of a way to respond that wasn’t too eager, when really she was so close to bolting for the door and dragging him along with her.
When she didn’t respond right away, Billy leaned a little closer if it was even possible and met her eye with what seemed to be a more vulnerable softness. “Wanna know something?” he asked, and Valerie was nodding before he even finished the last word. “I knew who you were the second you walked in. Even looked over here a few times before you caught me. Didn’t know if you’d want to see me, and was curious to see how long you’d leave me hanging, trying to guess who you were.”
Valerie still hadn’t fully decided if she thought this was a game to him, if he was playing her and trying out new angles to work to pick up girls. But right then, with that, she didn’t even care. It didn’t matter to her if it was, just like it didn’t matter if he was still the same philandering, unattached asshole he’d been in high school. This could’ve been a trap for her from the get go and he could be gone in the morning never to be heard from again, but goddamn she wanted him. Swallowing thickly, she glanced at the door then looking back at Billy.
“My apartment’s only a couple of blocks from here,” she said, practically blurting it out like she couldn’t say it fast enough as she held his gaze. He nodded once and got to his feet, waiting for her to do the same before they headed to the exit. Billy waved to the group he’d been with, but otherwise didn’t say goodbye, too focused on relocating.
It was colder outside than Valerie remembered, a shiver running through her when they stepped onto the sidewalk. She swayed a little on her feet, taking a deep breath of cool air and wishing she hadn’t worn heels. Billy kept close, hand finding the small of her back as she swayed.
“You good?” he asked, grinning when she blinked at him.
“Yeah, I’m okay, just haven’t stood up since I started drinking, that’s all,” she responded, tilting her head up a little more to look at him. He looked beautiful in the glow of the street lamps and she easily could’ve stood there for far too long, just looking at him.
“You wanna lead the way?” he questioned, reaching into his pocket to pull out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. She shook her head when he offered her one, but started toward her place with Billy close on her heels.
The cold air outside did little to cool Valerie down as they walked, her cheeks still rosy from the alcohol. Now that this was actually happening, she remembered that her room wasn’t entirely unpacked yet and most of the apartment was still a mess. She was wearing floral printed, cotton panties under her tights that were far from the sexy lingerie she would’ve liked to be wearing if Billy Hargrove was about to strip her naked.
“Did you run out of things to say to me now that you’ve locked me down for the night?” Billy asked after a moment of walking in near silence.
Valerie scoffed, shaking her head. “Not really,” she said, glancing up at him to see him take a drag from his cigarette. “Just busy regretting the choice to wear heels and ugly underwear tonight.” No point in hiding it, she supposed.
The laugh he let out surprised her. It was loud and genuine, making a pair of girls walking on the opposite side of the street turn their heads to glance at them. Valerie laughed with him, hugging her arms around herself as she shivered again.
“You cold?” he questioned, his arm sliding around her shoulders easily the second she nodded. Leaning into him was easy, happily leeching some of his warmth as they turned onto her street. He smelled different than she remembered and before she could remind herself that it was weird to remember how he smelled, she was saying it.
“Did you switch colognes?” she asked, looking up at her with a creased brow.
“Yeah,” he told her, chuckling softly and not elaborating further. “You seem nervous.”
“Do I?” Valerie responded, not bothering to try and deny it. He nodded simply, grinning.
“How much further?”
“At the end of the street. Why, you getting impatient?” she shot back, watching him flick the spend bud of his cigarette into the road.
“Maybe. Should’ve kissed you earlier outside the bar, and I’m getting tired of of waiting,” he said, both of them stopping on the sidewalk.
“What stopped you earlier?” she asked, arms crossing over her chest again as she slid out from under the arm that was around her shoulders.
“The fact that you almost fell over the second we got outside,” Billy told her, still grinning as he watched her.
“Okay, that’s fair,” she said, the first bit of laughter barely having the chance to leave her before his mouth was on hers.
It surprised her more than it should have, but she was quick to relax against him, bringing an arm up to settle around his shoulders. The kiss was softer than she would’ve expected from him and one hand cupped her jaw to keep her close. Billy sighed into her mouth softly, his tongue sliding along her bottom lip and leaving her to press closer to him. Valerie forgot that she was cold and forgot that they were in the middle of the sidewalk, too consumed by the relatively simple kiss and the way his arm had looped around her waist to keep her against him.
Valerie’s eyes stayed closed for a short second after he pulled away, only to press another shorter, almost chaste kiss to her lips before squeezing her around the waist and pulling back to slip his hand into hers. Somehow, that simple gesture, even if it was to just get her moving again, was the most surprising of the night so far.
By the time they made it into the entry way of her building, away from the cold night, Billy’s patience had worn even thinner, pressing her up against the wall right inside the door. His mouth was on hers again before the door even shut behind them, his hand settling on the back of her neck as he kissed her firmly. It was easy to melt against him, gripping the fabric of his shirt in one hand as she hummed into the kiss.
“We’ve got to get up to the third floor,” she managed to say, the words half muffled by his mouth. Billy made a sound of indifference, like he wouldn’t be opposed to fucking her right there, and that idea wouldn’t be completely wasted on Valerie aside from the fact that she didn’t want to get off on the wrong foot with her neighbors. His tongue slid along hers, making her knees weak as she leaned back into the wall for support.
He pulled back finally, licking his bottom lip and Valerie took the opportunity to slip away from him, taking his hand to pull him toward the stairs. They made it up a whole two flights before Billy was on her again, hands on her hips to pull her flush against him. His mouth found hers with such ease and intensity that the irritated noise she let out faded into a moan. Valerie realized as she tried to force herself to pull away, to get up that last set of stairs, that she’d never been kissed like this.
When she let her teeth catch on his bottom lip, she was rewarded with a moan from him and the sound vibrated through her, all the way to her fingertips. Valerie took the chance to pull away from him with a grin, sprinting up the steps as quickly as she dared to finally reach the door to her apartment. Fishing in the pocket of her skirt for her keys, she glanced over her shoulder to see Billy grinning widely as he followed right behind her.
Her hands were shaking as she tried to fit the key into the lock only to be distracted further by the way he swept her hair to the side to press an openmouthed kiss to the back of her neck. Cursing under her breath, she nearly fumbled her keys as she pressed her ass back toward him, loving the way his hand slid along the curve of her waist.
“Oh, thank god,” she breathed, finally turning the key in the lock to push the door open. Turning, her arm looped around his neck and let him walk her back into the dark apartment.
When the door clicked shut behind them, Billy really seemed to unleash, all hot desperate kisses and wandering hands. She arched against him when his fingers just barely swept under the hem of her sweater, already squeezing her thighs together in the hopes of alleviating the dull ache that had started there. Like he couldn’t feel enough of her, his hand slid down to squeeze her ass with a satisfied hum.
Just as her lungs were burning from the lack of oxygen, his mouth left hers to settle on her throat, and she took a deep, shaking breath as she pressed herself against him more. The blunt edge of his teeth grazed over her pulsepoint to make her gasp as she tilted her head back further.
“Where’s your room?” he asked, nosing at her jaw then pressing another firm, but gentler kiss to her mouth. She stayed there for a beat longer, enjoying the kiss before forcing herself to untangle from him.
Valerie kicked off her heels and Billy did the same with his boots, the slight height difference between them became larger. She took his hand and pulled him through the living room to reach her door. Eagerness and desperation outweighed her need to apologize for the place being such a mess, and behind the closed door of her bedroom, her confidence took off.
Biting her lip, she put a hand on Billy’s chest to push him back against the door and it surprised her how willingly he moved. Tilting her head up, she kissed him firmly again, enjoying the way his hands immediately settled on her ass again. The kiss was short lived though, impatience getting the best of her when she leaned away just enough to pull her sweater off and toss it aside carelessly.
“Holy shit, V,” he breathed, eyes adjusted well enough in the darkness to make out her topless form. The further abbreviation of her name made her grin as he brought a hand up to cup her through the material of her bra, his mouth already moving back to hers.
Valerie felt like she was vibrating, absolutely buzzing as she leaned into him, moaning when he licked into her mouth. Her hands came down to start untucking his shirt eagerly, only getting halfway done with the task before moving onto work on his belt buckle. When Billy nipped at her bottom lip hard enough to hurt, she gasped into the kiss, the sound fading to a moan.
When she finally managed to get his belt buckle open, she worked on the fly of his jeans next with shaking hands, still letting him control the kiss as he leaned back against the door. After dragging the zipper down, her hand slid into his jeans to cup him through the fabric of his underwear. Even half hard like he was now, his size was impressive, making her whine in anticipation as her mouth left his.
They blinked at each other for a short moment, breathing heavily to the point of panting in the dark room. In the glow of the street light flooding in through the window, Valerie could see her lipstick smudged along his mouth. Before he had the opportunity to pull her back to him, she sank to her knees in front of him, enjoying the pleased hum that he let out, fully aware of what she was doing.
Billy watched her closely as she bit her kiss swollen lip, looking up at him as she tugged his jeans and briefs down enough to free his cock. His hand found the back of her head, fingers tangling in her dark hair to guide her forward where he wanted her. She moved easily for him, lips already parted to take the head of his cock between them as she glanced up at him again through her lashes.
With the pair of them already so keyed up and eager, Valerie knew there was no point in teasing him. She took the rest of his length into her mouth and his hand tensed in her hair in a way that made her whine around him as she started to bob her head.
“Fucking hell, Val,” he muttered, watching as his dick disappeared between her lips and down her throat. “Been thinkin’ about this since chemistry. Used to watch you chew on your pen and pop your gum, drove me fuckin’ crazy.”
He knew exactly what she wanted to hear, spurring her on as he hit the back of her throat. She bobbed her head faster, letting her eyes close as he cursed above her again. Alternating between sucking and sliding her tongue along him, she shifted slightly on her knees, finding it hard to focus on what she was doing with the throbbing ache between her thighs.
Her hand came up to his thigh, feeling the tension and restraint in him, and she squeezed him there, hoping to encourage him further. Taking a deep breath through her nose, she relaxed her jaw to take him down her throat a little more, not caring about getting a little sloppy with it at that point. Billy seemed to take her hint and rocked his hips sharply, using the hand in her hair to keep her in place for him. Heat prickled down her spine and her lungs burned from the lack of oxygen, but the sounds of approval he let out were more than worth it.
He pulled out of her mouth a moment later and Valerie’s hand was quick to settle her hand around his length as she caught her breath. He somehow felt bigger in her hand than he had in her mouth, stroking him from base to tip, and leaning in again to flick her tongue over the head of his dick. If she didn’t feel so rushed and needy, she would’ve taken the time to appreciate his cock and his body properly, but that would have to wait.
“Come up here, angel, fuck,” he told her, swallowing thickly as he untangled his hand from her hair. Her knees shook as she got to her feet and his hands were on her quickly, pulling her body flush up against his.
When he kissed her, Valerie gasped into his mouth, so eager for him that she would barely keep still. His cock was pinned between them, pressing against her stomach as he unfastened her bra with ease. It struck her that he was still fully dressed, and she was just about to start pulling at the fabric of his shirt when his thumb dragged over the hardened peak of her nipple to make her moan loudly.
“Go get on the bed, V, let me see you,,” he said, his tone so dark and commanding that a shiver ran through her. He kissed her again, hard and quick, then let her slip away.
Billy was close behind her, tugging his shirt off and not bothering to fix his pants as he closed in on her. She had settled on the edge of the bed and leaned back, watching him approach with a self-satisfied grin. Matching her expression, his hand came up to hold her jaw briefly as he kissed her hungrily, before ducking his head to suck her nipple into his mouth.
“Oh, fuck, Billy,” she whined, already arching toward him and squeezing her thighs together. He figured out pretty quickly what she was doing, and settled a knee between her legs, earning a sound of irritation out of her that he followed with a chuckle.
“You that needy for me, sweetheart? Can’t fucking wait for me to touch you?” he questioned, mouth barely off her breath as he glanced up at her.
Not even giving her a chance to respond, he was leaning back again, both hands pushing under her skirt to tug down her tights and panties all in the same motion. He let the fabric drop to the floor, eyes sliding over her nearly naked frame with a slight smirk, like he couldn’t decide what he wanted next. Valerie realized she was nearly holding her breath, staring up at him and admiring the lines of his body.
His hand slid up the inside of her thigh, disappearing under her skirt again, and her legs parted further instinctively as she willed herself not to shake under his touch. When his fingers slid through her folds, Valerie cursed loudy, her head falling back against the mattress.
“Val, baby, you are so fucking soaked, holy shit,” Billy said, his tone practically dripping with lust by then. She could only nod silently, her hips rocking to try and meet the teasing motion of his fingers. “All this just from sucking my cock, huh?”
“ Billy! ” she groaned out insistently through clenched teeth, hating that he wasn’t giving her what she wanted. Her reaction only made his smirk grow, purposely avoiding her clit as his two fingers teased her.
“I’ve got you, don’t worry,” he told her, leaning over her enough that he could kiss her hungrily and swallowing the sound she let out when he sank two fingers into her. His hand settled on the mattress next to her head to support himself, curling his fingers inside her to see what other sounds he could get out of her.
Valerie’s arm slipped around him, her hand settling on the back of his head and letting her fingers tangle in his hair just as he’d done earlier. She was tight around his digits as they started to pump into her and he was fully entranced by the soft gasps and hums she kept loosing into his mouth.
Billy trailed hot kisses down the column of her throat, sucking and nipping gently at her skin as her breathing quickened. Her nails sank into his scalp and he hissed against her at the feeling, loving the way she couldn’t seem to keep her hips still. When he pressed his thumb to her clit to rub firm circles against the bundle of nerves, Valerie did her best to keep from crying out, already desperate for a release of the pressure that was building in her.
“That feel good, Val?” he asked, his lips leaving the side of her breast after sucking a mark into her skin. She whimpered in response, nodding quickly as her other hand gripped the sheets. “Say it, angel, let me hear you.” The motion of his fingers fucking into her had sped up, curling to try and find the spot inside her that would get her to scream for him.
Valerie huffed out an incredulous breath, absolutely hating that he wouldn’t just give her what she wanted. If his mouth wasn’t already occupied with teasing at her nipple, he would’ve chuckled, loving that streak of bossiness, near brattiness in her.
“Yeah, feels good, fuck,” she panted out, squirming as she tried to press herself closer to him in any ways she could. Her hand in his hair tightened enough to make him hiss as she dragged his mouth back up to hers.
The kiss was filthy, all tongues and teeth as his fingers fucked into her. Her hand on the back of his head slid down to grip his shoulder, whining as his name as she clenched around him. She was so wet that she could hear it as he toyed with her, the friction of the heel of his palm against her clit making her eyes roll back. Billy fit a third finger into her, pulling back just enough to watch her expression change.
“You gonna cum for me, baby girl? You want it so bad, don’t you?” he murmured to her, the words just barely audible over the sounds of their heavy breathing.
Nodding frantically, Valerie cursed, still trying to roll her hips against his hand. “Billy, please,” she whimpered, unsure what she was even pleading for by then. Her mind was clouded with lust, unable to think of anything beyond her desperation for him.
“Go ahead, V, cum all over my hand, show me how bad you want my cock,” he told her, his mouth attaching to her pulse point. Her arm tightened around his shoulders, nails sinking into his skin as she gave into her desperation.
Valerie came with another loud whine of his name, bucking against his hand for whatever friction he could get. He had pulled back to watch her and was murmuring praises to her that she could barely hear over the roaring of her heartbeat in her ears, her body tense as pleasure coursed through her. Billy’s fingers never stopped, pushing into her roughly, hungrily to see how long he could drag her orgasm out for.
God, she was stunning with the way her eyes changed as she came, the way she arched against him for as much contact as she could get. Billy was absolutely hooked, his eyes moving over her face as she came down and leaning to press light kisses to her jaw and mouth. His fingers were still pumping into her, albeit slowly, loving how drenched she was for him.
Valerie had all but melted into the mattress, her eyes closed as she tried to catch her breath, only faintly aware of Billy’s warmth above her. Her hips twitched toward his hand slightly, a quiet gasp leaving her as he continued to tease her. His fingers left her a second later as he shifted, leaning into her a little more as he kissed her.
In their new position, his dick was pressed against her stomach again, making her whine in anticipation. He smirked against her mouth, loving how reactive she was to him then he pulled back to get to his feet to shed his pants.
“You got condoms, angel?” he asked, kicking his jeans and underwear aside as he watched her.
Valerie shook her head, slipping out of her skirt finally to be just as naked as Billy was. “Just moved in, haven’t gotten any yet,” she said, pressing her thighs together as she waited for him. “I’m on the pill though, you can just pull out if you want.”
Nodding, Billy nudged her legs open with a smirk before settling over her again. With one hand beside her head to support himself over her, the other came down to guide her knee over his hip. His mouth crashed hard against hers with renewed desperation when the head of his cock slid through her folds, making them both groan.
“Fuck, you’re so goddamn sexy, Val,” he murmured into her mouth, letting his teeth catch on her bottom lip. Her hips canted up toward him eagerly as she let out another needy sound.
“Stop making me wait,” she groaned out, and he chuckled at the irritation in her tone, letting the head of his cock tease at her entrance.
“Oughta make you beg for it, sweetheart, see how long that brattiness lasts when you’re desperate for me like this,” he mused, loving the way her eyes flashed with panic at the thought. He was kidding himself if he thought he could wait any longer to be buried inside her, and without waiting for a retort from her, he finally pushed into her all at once.
The tight slide of his cock filling her made Valerie gasp, her arm immediately looping around his shoulders again as her hips angled up toward him, already wanting him deeper. In the low light of the room, he could tell that her pupils were blown and his surely were too, transfixed by how she felt around him. She could feel him through every inch of her, just enough to take the edge off her desperation as she practically purred for him. His hand was still holding her under the knee, forcing her leg a little higher and squeezing her there as he let his hips grind against her.
“Shit, that’s good, baby,” he breathed, pulling back each enough that he nearly slipped out and fucking back into her. The motion earned a loud moan from Valerie, whose hand moved to twist in his curls again. His mouth found her throat again, nipping at her skin before his tongue soothed over the spot as he set a hungry pace.
“God, Billy,” she sighed out, her tone so sweet and needy that he could’ve came right there on the spot. Valerie used the hand in his hair to guide his mouth back up to hers to kiss him desperately, letting her heel dig into the small of his back for leverage to rock against him.
His forehead pressed against hers as he caught his breath, eyes dropping slightly to watch his cock sink into her as her breasts bounced with the motion of his thrusts. Valerie’s jaw was clenched, trying to hold back the slew of whines and curses that threatened to leave her, but the second he met her eye again, that all went out the window.
“Touch yourself for me, Val, rub your clit,” he told her, his voice rough with restraint. He knew he wasn’t going to last as long for her as he’d like, but he’d be damned if he didn’t get to feel her cum around his dick. In a truly perfect world, he’d have the patience to make her cum half a dozen times before even fucking her, but desperation quickly took over.
Valerie did as she was told for once, slipping a hand between them to rub firm circles against the swollen bundle of nerves. The added stimulation made her clench around him and his hips slammed hard into hers. She was absolutely soaked, desperate for whatever else he could give her as she chased another orgasm.
He leaned away from her slightly, hovering over her to fuck into her at a different angle that made her eyes roll back. The head of his cock dragged over her g-spot with each thrust, making her toes curl as her hand continued to rub her clit. With her dark hair fanned out around her and that hazy, blissed out look in her eye, Billy wasn’t sure he’d ever seen anything so stunning.
“You gonna be a good girl and cum for me again?” he asked, bringing his free hand up to cup her breast. His thumb grazed over the hard peak of her nipple and couldn’t help but smirk at the way she trembled beneath him as she nodded. Billy’s eyes dropped to her mouth quickly and was leaning in to kiss her again before could stop himself.
Valerie came apart quickly after that, dragging her nails over his shoulder as she moaned into his mouth, practically clinging to him as if she’d float away otherwise. His brow was set in a tense line as he fucked her through her orgasm, trying to hold back his own for just a little longer. When she tugged at his bottom lip with her teeth, he swore loudly and pulled out, forehead pressing against hers as he spilled hot onto her stomach with a groan.
“Fucking hell,” he breathed, letting his lips drag along her jaw as they both panted heavily. Valerie nodded in agreement, her eyes closed as she dropped her head back against the bed. Her arm was still around his neck, fingers lightly moving over his shoulder as she waited her her body to stop buzzing.
She was still shaking slightly when he kissed her, taking his time and her fingers moved up to his hair again to keep him there. This was nice, she decided. She hadn’t expected him to kiss her like this after , but she certainly wouldn’t complain about it.
Billy’s thumb brushed along her cheek softly and pulled back, their eyes meeting for a moment in the dark. His gaze briefly dropped to her mouth when she licked her lips, then pushed off of her to get to his feet.
“You got a towel or something?” he asked, moving around in the dark to look for his pants.
“What?” she responded, her mind still foggy to the point that she hadn’t comprehended a word he’d said.
“A towel, d’you have one handy? Figured I ought to at least be a gentleman and wipe my cum off your stomach,” he said, glancing looking around as best as he could in the hopes of answering his own question.
“Oh,” Valerie laughed softly, happily admiring his frame as he stepped into his briefs. “Yeah, on the chair at my desk.” She tucked an arm behind her head comfortably, drawing a knee up to rest on foot flat against the mattress.
Billy returned with the towel, eyes flickering to her tits as he wiped up the mess he’d left on her stomach. She thanked him softly, biting her lip as she continued to watch him, not sure what to do or say at that point. Part of her had expected him to get dressed and leave without a word the second he’d pulled away, so this was all unexpected.
“Mind if I smoke?” he asked, picking up his jeans and fishing in the pockets already. Another surprise.
“Just crack the window, do it over there,” she told him, shifting to sit up more and leaning back on her hands. He scoffed softly like he was annoyed by her response, but she caught a glimpse of a grin as he turned toward the window.
When Valerie got to her feet, her knees were still shaking slightly, and she was still throbbing and slick between her thighs as she slipped on the short silk robe hung on the back of her door. Holding it closed around himself, she followed him toward the window where he had cracked it like she said. He watched her as she moved toward him, lighting the cigarette between his lips.
The street light outside her window cast a yellow glow over them as she mirrored his position, facing him as she leaned against the wall on the opposite side of the window. Their eyes met and held, both trying to get a read on the other. He looked damn near godlike in the low light, even with his hair a mess from her hands. Valerie doubted she looked even better, and she found herself chewing on the inside her of cheek before looking out the window.
“You want me to stick around?” Billy said after a minute.
Her eyebrow raised as she looked back to him, taken aback by the question. Was this part of his game, trying to gauge how clingy she was or something?
“Up to you, I guess,” she said, holding her hand out for the cigarette. That seemed to surprise him, his eyes dropping to her outstretched hand. He actually rolled his eyes, taking another drag before handing it to her.
Valerie watched him through her lashes as she lifted the cigarette to her lips, unable to read him. Her lungs burned but she managed not to cough, considering she hadn’t smoked a cigarette in years. The corner of his mouth twitched up into a grin briefly and turned his head to look out the window.
“I’ve got work at 8:30, so I’ll have to slip out early,” Billy told her after another pause, watching her take another drag from the cigarette and extending his hand to take it back.
“That’s fine,” she said, matching his cool tone and just barely letting herself smile. Her fingers brushed against his as she passed the cigarette back then she crossed her arms over her chest, shivering as a cool burst of air came through the opened window. She looked out the window again, simply to have something to look at other than him.
The interaction felt so casual, as if he hadn’t just given her the best orgasms of her life. Neither of them seemed to be able to figure the other out, when they’d been so in synch five minutes ago. Billy didn’t seem like nearly as much of an asshole now, didn’t seem like he was ready to hightail out of her place the second she was asleep. He easily could’ve left already, but he was still here and she didn’t know why he would feel the need to lie about staying, only to skip out anyway, if that was his angle. She’d seen him play plenty of girls in Hawkins though, fucking them thoroughly, then moving onto the next girl at the next party, so Valerie wasn’t even sure how much to trust him in all of this.
“What are you thinking about?” he asked, taking a final puff of the cigarette before flicking the spent end out the window and closing it.
“You,” she responded, faster than she’d meant to. He actually smirked, making her roll her eyes and continuing. “You seem really different.”
Billy scoffed, tilting his head just slightly. “That a bad thing?” Valerie shook her head in response, making that barely there smile reappear on his face. “You got a preference on which side of the bed you take?”
“I sleep better on the right side,” she told him, stepping away from the wall.
SEPTEMBER 2, 1989
Waking up alone the next morning, Billy even being there at all felt like a dream. She didn’t know what time he’d left, but she’d woken up close to dawn to feel his arm around her and his leg tangled with hers.
Valerie stayed in bed for a while, replaying the night in her head with a sleepy, satisfied smile. Part of her wished she’d given him her number, but at least now she wouldn’t spend god knows how long waiting by the phone, hoping he’d call. She felt good, proud of herself even.
When she got up, she noticed the piece of paper on her nightstand.
“It was good to see you. Call me. 923-0427.”

7. Bookstore au, 2. enemies to lovers, you, 5. You have the emotional capacity of a brick
part 2 of the mini-bookstore!au series! read part 1 here
-
It’s not going well.
It’s really, really not.
The job itself is fine - there aren’t too many nightmare customers, and the pay is good for a retail job, and Kurt likes his schedule for the most part.
But Blaine.
Blaine Anderson drives Kurt up the wall on a daily basis, during every single shift they share, which is most of them, with his endless bounding energy, even ridiculously early in the morning, even on the mistiest, foggiest days outside. With his enthusiasm and his excitement and his passion, especially for the music section, which, yeah, is Kurt’s favorite part of the store, too.
The enthusiasm is what drives Kurt the most insane - because everyone receives it but him.
Around Kurt, Blaine shuts down and closes up, sticking to the basic logistics and formalities of the job, correcting Kurt’s mistakes when he makes them and teaching him how to not do them again, training him properly but keeping it strictly, strictly professional.
It’s not that Kurt wants to be on the receiving end of Blaine’s- Blaine, but it just... It bothers him.
Blaine bothers him.
They continue that way, working in a stilted, icy partnership, for several weeks, but then they’re both slated for a closing shift on a Friday night, one no one wants, one where the shop is the quietest, and somehow they’re the only ones left by the time they need to close up.
Kurt doesn’t know where Blaine is, and so he wanders the aisles, looking, finally finding him with his back leaned up against the bookshelves, nose in a copy of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
It’s one of Kurt’s favorites, actually.
“Reading on the job?” he asks despite himself, unsure of why he’s so suddenly driven by the need to strike up a truce, but he’s driven all the same, all the way to step right in front of Blaine, pressing a finger into the spine of the book to lower it from Blaine’s gaze, to guarantee his attention.
Blaine’s eyes flick up, intent dark pupils against swirls of amber and honey, and that’s the other annoying part of it all.
Blaine is ridiculously, devastatingly beautiful.
Kurt wants to punch him, or- or.
“We accept the love we think we deserve,” is all Blaine says, and Kurt’s breath hitches in his chest, confused, the words familiar, but Blaine saying them, Blaine’s voice, low and soft, just the two of them in the bookstore-
Kurt’s eyes drift down to the book in Blaine’s hand, and, right. Perks.
“I’m surprised you read this kind of thing,” Kurt says without meaning it, needing to keep his defenses up somehow. “I figured you must have the emotional capacity of a brick.”
When you’re around me, at least, he wants to add. I think I was too hard on you back then, and I have no idea how to fix it.
He blinks down at the book instead, the lime green cover a stark contrast to the low light in the closed store, the heaviness in Blaine’s gaze.
There’s a tension between them, just like there always is, but it feels different, now, thicker, more important, keeping Kurt from breathing and keeping him from stepping back, making him want to get even closer.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me,” Blaine murmurs, and Kurt’s eyes flicker up to Blaine’s face just as Blaine’s flicker down to - oh god - Kurt’s mouth, just for a split second, so quickly that Kurt isn’t even completely convinced it happened, but-
That’s it.
The tension snaps.
And Kurt gives in and he steps forward the rest of the way, and he leans his body against Blaine’s, pressing him back into the bookshelf, Perks crushed between them, leaning their foreheads together and cupping Blaine’s jaw but stopping, waiting, tell me this is okay, tell me it isn’t just me, tell me I can fix this...
He’s close enough to hear Blaine inhale a shaky, jagged breath, and when he lets out the smallest broken whimper on the exhale, Kurt knows.
Kurt knows.
He grips Blaine’s hip with his free hand, and he captures his lips in a deep, slow kiss, and Blaine responds instantly, reaching up to thread his fingers in Kurt’s hair, yes, there’s that enthusiasm, the enthusiasm he really, truly did want, and suddenly Kurt gets it, he gets what they say in the book, he gets feeling infinite because he feels it now, in this moment, wants to stay here forever, kissing Blaine.
He pulls away for a breath when he needs it, nearly overcome, but he stays close, needs to be close, and when his eyes flutter open, Blaine’s do too, softer and warmer than Kurt has ever seen them.
“This moment will just be another story someday,” Blaine breathes, another quote from the book, and Kurt loves it, feels it settle comfortably in his heart, though he hopes to hear Blaine’s words, too, separate from the book they both know, from a story that isn’t their own.
“But the story could be ours,” Kurt whispers in reply because he wants it to be, needs it to be, and suddenly, all bitterness and annoyance dissolved like it was never there in the first place, he knows it will be.
He knows they’ll have a story, and it’ll be a good one, and this moment is just the beginning of it all.

Tumblr media
Summary: You show up to your first night shift but you didn’t really manage to adjust your sleep pattern.
Genre: Fluff!
Tumblr media
It was literally your first nightshift ever.
as you assigned for it you were just a little bit worried but mostly excited.
seeing common places at strange times of the day can be really interesting
different lighting, people and an overall different feeling...
but since you did never work the night shift before you don’t quite know what is going on at your company during the night
other coworkers have warned you about it, saying the nightshift is usually busier than the day shifts
but it pays much better so you thought ‘why not give it a try?’
you arrive at your company’s building a few minutes late
checking in through the main entrance showing the security your employee badge and walking straight up to your office
which you usually didn’t share even though it has two workspaces
due to staff shortage you are used to getting everything done yourself and also keeping you busy for 8 hours straight
but today there was aöready someone there
so you carefully opened the door and entered the room, not sure if you maybe made a mistake and messed up the date of your shift or something
“Hi, ehm, today’s the 16th, right?”
The man gets. up and looks at his phone
“Yeah it’s march 16th. Oh you must be Y/N? I got told we would be on the night shift together. I’m Seungsik.”
You shook his hand and then walk past his chair to get to your desk
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know there would be someone else here. Is it really that busy at night they need to people?”
“Sometimes. But you can never really tell beforehand. Just see what happens and roll with it.”
So you roll with it
and turns out: tonight would be a chill night
for the first three hours or so the two of you would work on the emails and papers that come in and get the paperwork done which the dayshift left for you
around 1 am Seungsik gets up and stretches
“You want some coffee?”
“Yes please. I feel like I am falling asleep any second.”
He snickers.  “But it’s only 1 am. You have 5 hours ahead of you.”
“I deal with that once I get to it.” You joked and he left the office laughing, saying he would be right back
“So do you work here fulltime?”
You shake your head and take a smal sip of the steaming hot coffee and immediately regret it
“Part time.” You answer. “I am a student but I work every shift I can. You?”
“I study part-time and work here the rest of it.”
“So you study logistics or something?”
“That sort of thing.” He leaned back in his chair
You decide it is time for a break so the two of you get comfy in your chairs
Seungsik has his legs crossed and his security badge resting in the pocket of his dress shirt
you put your scarf on your thighs like a blanked about an hour ago
sitting like this you chat for a while about this and that until you find out you both study at the same university
“How come I’ve never seen you on campus our departments are not far from each other.” he exclaimes
“Not far? It’s the other side of the campus. Across the track fiel. How is that not far?”
“You see”, Seungsik sais. “I study logistics and not architecture. What do I know about numbers?”
You admit: “Touché.”
half an hour later you get back to work
a ton of emails did roll in while you talked
you are busy with that for the time being
But something is different than before though
since you talked with him that much and you got along so well you wondered if it would be okay to ask him for his instagram or number maybe?
Just to see if he is wroking any other shifts or ask work related questons ofc
but that yould be so weird, right?
after all you didn’t know each other and is older than you as well
you aren’t studying in the same semester
perhaps he even has a girlfriend? You didn’t ask him about so you wouldn’t know
at 3 am you start. yawning non stop
your eyes tearing up everytime and you sniff
“You good?” Seungsik looks at you amusedly
you shake your head once more: “Yeeah, I’m good!”
He laughs “Yeah sure.”
His fingers move quickly over the keyboard, filling out forms routinately while you barely manage to answer and email without too many typos
Minutes pass and you don’t even notice how your lids slowly fell shut and your minds starts drifting away
“You can go to sleep.”
His words woke you up and you twitch awake
“What?” You look around blinking. “No, no I can do it.”
Seungsik looks at you with softly smiling eyes reassuring you it’s alright and that he means his offer.
“It’s alright, there’s not much to do. I can take care of it myself.”
“What if someone checks by?”
“That never happened to me during night shift. At htis time people are just doing the bare minimum to keep this place running until the morning. Just sleep.”
After a bit more of ‘No, I will get through this’s and ‘But you will fall asleep as well’s you finally give up and settle in your chair
“but if there is anything you need an extra hand with you wake me up??”
“Yes of course. Don’t worry.”
the clock on your computer showes 5:30 am when he wake you up
the sun is about to rise and lime-washes the buildings infront of the window in a slightly lighter shade of blue
the last half hour of your shift nothing happens so you eventually gather your things and take the elevator down to the entrance
on the entire way you guys don’t say a word to each other, now both desperately trying to stay awake
after signing out you halt at the door
“Seungsik?”
He turns around “What is it?”
“Would it be very weird if I ask you for your phone number? Just for work related things of course! If I maybe have questions or to check when or if we’re are working together again?”
“It wouldn’t be too weird. I wanted to ask you about yours as well. Just -” He pauses
“Just?”
“I wanted to get your number for personal reasons. But if you only want to be colleagues than that’s fine with me! I didn’t even ask if you have a boyfriend maybe or a girlfriend. Either way would be great for you.”
You laugh and suddenly feel that huge relief
“You can have my number for such purposes! Working with you was a lot of fun, thank you.”
“Not that you worked much but yeah I can just give that right bak at you.”
“But you told me it was okay to sleep!”
he cackled and his laughter chimed across the street making some people turn their heads towards you
“I know I know. Now give me your number or I will miss my train.”
And just like this morning comes
