It is so handy how on Unix you can just write files to /tmp and they will be cleared up automatically upon shutdown!
So if I want to write a disposable python script to test something - put it in /tmp!
Or if I want to view e.g. an MS Word document that my browser can't read, just save it in /tmp.
And of course if it's worth keeping, then move it to somewhere permanent.

/uj don't use yiffos for a real pc unless u have the energy to replace the package manager (called bulge) , as it is about 2 years outdated and horrendously unsafe. i do want to fork yiffos and either update the package repo or rewrite bulge as a pacman & yay wrapper at some point, but right now i dont have the time (im unemployed and spend all day watching the same 30ish defcon and wild west infosec keynotes on youtube over and over again instead of doing anything useful)

I just installed Black and White on my PC. Part of the installation process involves giving it a CD key that's printed on the box. Of course, the game is older than I am, so I couldn't buy a physical copy if I wanted to. There's also no official rerelease whatsoever. So I guess I can't install it and play it, woe is me.

Unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion that I am too much of a messy bitch for Arch Linux.
I tried to keep my laptop going, I really did, but I figure I just had too many conflicting packages installed, and my routine of monthly (or even longer) updates kept screwing me over.
I should have guessed when I had something like 2,000 packages to update, and a dozen conflicts. I tried my normal MO (remove the conflicting packages & dependant apps, then reinstall after the big upgrade), and another red flag came up when I had to leave it on overnight to compile AUR packages (which should have taken minutes, not hours!)
Eventually it finished. Reboot... Black screen. Couldn't even get a terminal!
Thankfully it didn't scramble the disk, so I didn't loose any data. But at this point I'm too tired to recover my install... Again. I'm giving Kubuntu a try.
Yeah, yeah, sNaPs BaD or whatever, but at this point I need system stability more than anything else.
But at least I got the distro with KDE. GNOME BAD.

#at what point do you delete your bachelors degree from your cv asking for MYSELF#like. i have masters. surely they would extrapolate that i had a previous education before#but! it could have been in a random field. so i think it is important they know ive been in biology for a long time#also i could just not mention the conferences. but they make me look nice and it kind of cancels out the fact i have no publications#also ive worked in 6 positions since 2020#if i keep the bachelors i have to keep the work experience from 2020 bc i didnt study anything in 2020-2021#and that would be a gap year if i deleted my first lab assistant job#i could definitely delete the drivers licence part#and the project part bc thats eh#just one project#but i want to keep the digital skills. i fought real hard to finish that paraview course like jesus christ i learned python and linux comma#commands for hpc use and like. electromagnetism or whatever that it was about. the physics#all in one course that only gave me 3ects#i already have no hobbies and personal qualities listed there#idk what else to lose#or maybe im overthinking#im once again applying for a week in finland and idk if they would even care#aaahhhhh#i think i have to lose the conferences
