next is lonely eyes storyboard! CW: alcohol use, smoking, implied alcoholism, suicide attempt, rough falling out, and john has his top off on the last page. he's very underweight and has s/h scars (though there just kinda lines here). so if you're uncomfortable with that maybe scroll past.

one of the panels on the third page was added in like yesterday. bc i forgot a line somehow. anyway i think this song summarizes their story p well. never finished the boards though. you might recognize dawsey from prev days but there's also jackson (in the fedora but not john) and their boss (guy with the hair bun)

next is the night like these lyric comic! CW: smoking, alcohol use, implied alcoholism. couple of idiots thinking they're not doing enough for the other. artstyle goes back and forth between two alternatives lmao

my favorite bit is how the "you" points to john :) since the concept behind this story is an aro (bisexual) and an ace (homoromantic) trying to navigate a strange relationship in the 1960s i felt like the "fuck i'm sorry you feel all alone" line really fit. also even in the choruses i devoted to each of them you can tell how they're opposites. like with the framing of pages 3 and 7 specifically. this lyric comic is also where i figured out a lot of things. like colin's nose and how his ahoge always points to john. man i could say a lot more about this lyric comic

misc thoughts fresh off finishing yumi and the nightmare painter: 

* i should’ve taken my time reading this ahaha. books definitely hit different when savored and on larger screen/pages

- there were some tropes i didn’t like here, like painter pretending to yumi to be all cooler and more heroic than he actually was = cringe when it comes falling down. at least that part was relatively short. but like digging a hole with your lies ughhhhhhh hate that hate misunderstandings hate people not believing you when you tell the truth 

- was not convinced to care about the side characters. they didn’t really get any development. i wasn’t even sold on the old friend group being friends with each other - their banter wasn’t that good, and I’m sensitive to this kinda thing atm since I’m in my own struggle of writing convincing and interesting friend group interactions - nor were they written particularly compellingly as individuals. akane was kind but that was about it. i love the sleepless as a concept and masaka was great but she really came out of nowhere to help. and liyun could have used more development 

- speaking of masaka this is a hot take as a cosmere fan but i think there’s a point where the cosmere references get too much and detract from the story at hand. felt that a bit with lost metal, at times with tress, and definitely here. 

- hoid’s narration - i thought it fine in tress, suited the fairytale storytelling tone, but his comments felt kind of more annoying and distracting and out of place in this one. at least he had an actual role in tress...

+ the twist was very cool, big fan, i was totally misled, but 

- the reveal was... the fact that what happened was so complicated that it needed SUCH a big exposition dump, i was not a fan. like im grateful to hoid that he knew i was confused. but it shouldn’t have been so confusing, there had to have been a better and more elegant way to present what happened 

- and im still a little confused about what we saw of yumi’s world was real 

- also like who were the actual aliens they encountered lmao we’re just moving right along

+ so i was ready to throw hands when i saw “epilogue”. and then “another epilogue” ahaha. to be fair that sad ending was still a good ending itself but god i would’ve been so upset hahaha

+ the ending made me feel things. almost eked out some tears. such a good ending overall.

+ the art ahhhhhhhhh so pretty. def my fav artist / artwork of the four (i’m just a big fan of this kind of aesthetic. traditional korea + futuristic japan) 

- though i was a little disappointed with the cover. not sure why. the pure outlines don’t stand out very well and the text font/color... idk... 

* for some reason i thought that the colors being cyan and magenta meant that there’d be significance in the missing third color yellow or lime or smth. i thought there was a WoB or smth. oh well 

* are maipon sticks actually any different from chopsticks. why not just also call them chopsticks. 

- i think the preview chapters gave me expectation that there’d be a bit more with their respective magics and worldbuilding which were so cool and i wish we saw more of that, b/c that kind of stuff interests me more. top tier aesthetics for these worlds. but i guess this was always supposed to be more “inward” and more focused on the romance... 

- i think i didn’t find yumi or painter super likable on a personal / personality level either. this is kind of a me thing though. i know they’re supposed to be Like That with their backgrounds, histories etc. i suspect i’d appreciate them more on reread.

- oh yeah and i want to know more about the other yoki hijo too! 

+ this is a pretty focused book even if i do want to know more. i can respect that. like how this was a lifeswap not a bodyswap, allows for keeping the focus on the story he wants to tell 

+ will admit it was super funny that painter was seen as yumi but yumi was still just seen as herself 

+ was gonna cry at the introduction of the Machine to replace Art. but then it was like, maybe it’s worth it if it saves any other girls from suffering the - abuse, basically - that yumi had to go through? but in the end the Machine is unequivocally the evil here 

+ i do love yumi Stacking Things whenever stressed ahaha

this sounds like a lot of negative points but those are more interesting to talk about and those are what come to mind quickly esp since i’m just pulling thoughts out very quickly and haphazardly here. to some extent the good parts go without saying and id appreciate them more on (a slower) reread and tbh i might make a follow up post as i think more on this. i think i was just a little disappointed bc i came in with really high expectations... ah well. still a good book overall, and i want to give it a reread to better understand and catch some things. i think my current ranking is tress > yumi > frugal

Finalised Main project ideas

After ruminating on the ideas I had thought of, I had wittled it down to three main concepts to decide from, those being-

Call to change for Birmingham city centre

•Critique on its cultural stagnation and reliance on development and big brands whilst demolishing independent Shops and defunding arts

•Mention The Square and Electric Cinema

•Criticise empty ugly buildings and landscape

•Spotlight independent and important areas of culture still present in Birmingham city centre that deserve preserving

This is a topic which interests me due to it being a huge concern to me and many others who live in Birmingham and the West Midlands, as due to the lack of funding from the council, barely any support is put into the arts and community, as well as no effort given to advertising affordable and independent events.

Two articles covering separate cases of iconic and historical landmarks in Birmingham city centre being shut down in place of development.

Net Art and the current corporate nature of the internet

The conglomerated state of social media and other websites all sharing the same functions, simplistic designs and algorithms, causing all individuality to be lost of both the UI design, content, communities and users

The predatory nature of modern social media, intent on keeping its user base addicted in order to farm engagement for profit, prioritising frequent short-form low quality content

The current trend of social media sites blatantly advertising and promoting far-right ideological posts (eg, Twitter and Elon Musk, Far-Right pipeline on YouTube, homophobic & transphobic legislation added to Meta TOS)

Moss of humanity through incentivising AI

The importance of personal expression and how compartmentalising the internet has normalised bullying and hate.

Promoting the indie web and encouraging making personal websites

I had already researched these points previously within a past project, as well as briefly covering them within the ‘WWWILFing’ mini brief. I am incredibly passionate about this topic as I believe that many people, including myself, feel drained, stressed and pressured by social media, unknowing why or how to surpass it. It I were to develop this concept, I would want to educate people on the scummy business practices held by most big social media companies, seeing its customer base not as people but profit, jumping through any hoops and surpassing any morals in order to grab the largest pay check.

A history of language and code

In order to spread appreciation to language and how it connects everyone

Educate on the history of many unique language structures, how they were created and why they’re important (eg. Braille, sign language, Nüshi, morse code, etc)

Encourage preservation and appreciation of culture and identity

Encourage others to learn a separate language and to engage in other cultures as well as encourage literacy and an appreciation for history

How cultures perceive things differently through language expressions (colour, idioms, senses, etc)

This was a topic that drew my interest after partaking in the ‘Deliberately Lost’ project, as I found it really interesting to see how everyone characterised each other through their common speech patterns. If I were to continue further with this concept, I would hope to further research the deeper aspects to language and more notable messages and historical events to recount.

Presentation

Within my presentation, I displayed what I had made so far and explained my project ideas. Once hearing back from the group and my friends, I deduced that within the time frame, the language concept would be the most plausible to complete.

(Alright so I couldn't get the actual Shining parody to get the way I like it, but I can assure you that Chess does try pulling it when they're bored (without the graphic imagery of course, that's not how they--). ...However, it caught them by surprise when they encountered Chestnut and he said yes to playing with them.

They had a game night as a result, and he did pretty well for someone who has never played chess in his life before this.)

I’ve talked to couple people who had trouble seeing the bio since tumblr mobile is a bit behind on the concept of pages, so I figured it’s about time I made this! If there are any issues, let me know! <3

Character biography:

NAME: Kallion AGE: 19-22 SPECIES: Saiyan

(Cont. under the cut)

Kallion is a Saiyan time patroller who was brought to Conton city, from a not-too-distant past, when noticed by the Supreme Kai of Time.

The beginning of her life was of little note among Saiyan’s. She was born a low-level to two low class parents she barely remembers and can’t name. As a baby with a low power level, her destiny was to be sent to a far off planet, conquer it, come back home, rinse, wash, repeat. By five years old she had a crew and a steady schedule of missions. Too bad she found herself struggling constantly against her own nature; even as a great ape, she found herself sparing more people than her crew members killed. And they would make their displeasure with her known, eventually.

With that aside, life still pressed on. Training, missions, armor that seemed too big, slowly gaining the strength to live up to the pride of her mighty race…

And then in an instant, everything changed.

The Saiyan’s were decimated. But her typical existence had one thing on its side; luck. She survived the near-extinction of her race and planet’s destruction by sheer, dumb luck. Shortly before the explosion of planet Vegeta, she had been marooned and stranded on another planet by her own crew due to her constant failures and inability to complete tasks on their planet-conquering missions. Of course, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Alone on that planet, all she saw was a bright explosion in the sky and an unmistakable void of energy. Kallion remained scavenging on that planet for several years before being brought to Conton city as a recruit.

All in all, she’s fared much better. At the very least, she can laugh and have a sense of humor about her mistakes as opposed to being unceremoniously dumped on a backwater planet by herself.

Kallion came into the time patrol in her very early teens, and since then has been able to develop into her own person and learn about life outside of the constant struggle for survival. While Planet Vegeta was her home warts and all, she will be the first to admit that life in Conton City has made her happier than she ever thought she deserved.

She holds a strong admiration for Chronoa and the time patrol, as well as gratitude for giving what she sees at a second chance at a meaningful life.

Appearance:

Short, but muscular! Typical Saiyan black hair, which wafts out at the ends, and grey-blue eyes. A small scar on her left cheek is left as a reminder from some battle far away. Her tail is still very much there- call it sentiment, but she’s not quite ready to let go of that part of her heritage. After all, it’s not a problem as long as she remembers not to look up at the full moon. Right?

Personality:

Kallion’s got a bit of a chip on her shoulder. The insecurity she holds from her younger days manifests in a bad tendency to either overcompensate her strengths, or doubt herself to the point of freezing at the worst of times. Implying she’s weak is a good way to earn her ire. While lacking the extreme aggression and ruthlessness, she hasn’t lost her Saiyan pride after all! It’s unclear who exactly she’s trying to prove herself to- Chronoa, Elder Kai, Trunks, and the first Patroller have plenty of confidence in her abilities. Not to mention her old crew mates are long dead. The simple answer would be, “the nagging voice in the back of her head.” Putting all that aside, she’s genuinely good-hearted for a born-and-bred Saiyan of planet Vegeta.

She’s passionate about her work, playful, honest almost to a fault, and will give the shirt off her back for a friend…due to an incurable case of “inability to say no.” For better or worse, she often gives people the benefit of the doubt. Kallion isn’t gullible or naive, but past experiences have made her eager to please.

That being said; Due to her background as essentially a feral child, she’s behind in a lot of areas of knowledge. Kallion’s a slow reader, often misses innuendos and metaphor, and can be literal minded. This, of course, leads to her coming off as a bit…dumb sometimes.

Gentle nature and soft heart aside, Kallion’s Saiyan instincts and heritage aren’t buried completely under the surface. First, there’s the insatiable appetite. Second, that love of battle and need for more strength can’t be taken away so easily. She may get too into fights at times, but it has yet to cause any kind of serious damage. She takes pride in the fact that she has yet to cause as much damage as, say, the oh-so famous Goku and Vegeta. Property damage absolutely doesn’t count. Third, a short temper she keeps in check with a deep breath, balled fists, and an uncomfortably wide smile. Snarky remarks are optional.

On rare occasions, the past catches up to her. A brilliant explosion, something as simple as fireworks, that remind her a little too much of that night long ago. A fleeting pang of guilt hitting her heart, resulting in her wondering why a low class, pathetically soft excuse for a warrior like herself was spared the fate of her family and 99% of her race…but those thoughts be damned!

If Kallion’s going to make the best of a second chance, dwelling on something like that isn’t going to help. She’ll sooner slap the self pity out of herself than let it take hold!    

Other:

Mentor: Bardock. Primarily with @drxgon-soul, but I’m also willing to interact with other Bardock’s if they’re willing! I’m an incredibly shy person, so it may take me a while to approach you first. Kallion also trains with Shallot (shallxt), Taeta (ancientoozaru) and Scaro (divinesaiyan)

Voice: Her VA claim is Bryn Apprill, more along the lines of her Historia Reiss than the voice she used in Xenoverse.

Family: As mentioned above, Kallion has little to no memories of her parents. It’s all a matter of circumstance– her parents were often on missions, and when they weren’t, than Kallion was the one away. So her impression of them is two typical lowclass Saiyan’s who probably didn’t care due to how soft she was. And she’s okay with knowing that much, despite there being a bit of a hole in her heart because of it. HOWEVER, I can say that her father is Toma/Tora. More on that here!

Ships: Kal’s in a ship with the Saiyan in Red/Giblet (the-hooded-saiyan). I’m still a liiiiittle undecided on whether or not I want this blog to be multiship, but for now I’ll say it’s “More Discussion Needed.“

Misc:

I’ve gone as far as having her attain SSGSS in XV2, but for the purposes of this blog and story, she is currently training her ass off to reach Super Saiyan. All she needs is that little push.

She loves kids! Again, while it prooooobably won’t come up for blog/story purposes, I actually imagine her having three in the future. I’m a sucker for time travel shenanigans, so my avatar for XV1 who cameos as Trunks’ partner in XV2 is modeled to be her son. In my defense, I watch a surprising amount of media with stable time loop narratives.

The Goal of it All ( II ) - Same Goals, Same Hope...I Guess?

woo boy I’ve been meaning to put this up for a while. It took me a tiny bit longer than it should of to get all my goals finalized (not that the public cares. Also kidding I appreciate those who actually like these things)

But yeah my goals for the year are pretty much more the same

Lose weight, draw more, play more games, read more and create something or somethings if possible.

A bit long winded.

Self

To get an idea of how fat I am my goal of the end of the year is to reach 200 lbs. In all honestly given my current weigh it shouldn’t be so hard, but I’m aware of my eating habits and usual backslidings.

Learning

I also need to do some actual focusing and properly studying my Japanese. Should have understood Hiragana well by now. So end of the year need to have Hiragana and Katakana under my belt.

Art

And then there’s my artist life...that’s a mess. Quite a few things like I just need to doodle and draw more. Happy to say that is happening. Doing digital doodling and going back to doing palettes. At this point it means concentrating on my work and doing better at learning from tutorials and other things.  

Also want to fully and successfully do two art challenges (maybe more, like at least one more). Like for real though fully completed. All days all the images.

I also want to try to complete a full new sketchbook this year. Don’t know if that sounds like much of a goal to others, but I’m slow at drawing and trying to tie off two other sketchbooks, but even then I’ve always wanted to do this.

Then there’s a biggie of the webcomic I’ve been vaguely daydreaming about doing. I did have an idea that I am-was dedicated to doing. I vaguely gave up but not quite obviously or else I wouldn’t have mentioned it. So now I’m at step 0 (?). Need to pick what I’m making-writing. I’m still kind of dedicated to my initial idea but I have been eyeing some of my other (and older) ideas. I have an idea of what I need to get done for this year, which is pretty much prep and by the end of January I need to have a story chosen. 

All to do is learn how to art. I struggle with most of everything. Also I forgot how concept art is done so that will be fun as well.

Write

Well just writing more. From the looks of things I’ll be focusing on my fanfiction 🤷🏽‍♀️. Currently scrambling to get things done for Arcane A+ Parenting Week. Which bouncing off of that I also started a seperate Arcane fan fic. Multi chaptered and no idea about where it will stop.

But on top I still have my RWBY and Miraculous Ladybug fan fics. I refuse to give up on my RWBY so I need to get back to it. I’m just two pages away from finishing my second chapter. My Miraculous Ladybug fan fic on the other hand will have to be in stasis. I’m going to be bouncing between the other fics but my Ladybug writing won’t be touched on at all or not alot.

And I’m piling up the writing. Need to stretch and practice so my lovely discord helped to pick out some writing prompts to push my imagination and more importantly see how well I can write.

Now I’ve been told encouraged to work on something else but...

...

I don’t know we’ll see if I have no that.

also FINISH CROOKED KINGDOM. omg. 2 years. 2 years its so embarrassing that I haven’t finished this book yet. Its not even that I have lost interest in the book or story I just...haven’t been reading anymore..but hopefully soon. Cause like I want to read other novels and I can’t bring myself to move to a new book if I haven’t finished the one before it.

I have a book on doing chainmail and two books on making pixel art and animation. And I just need to do it. Despite having them with me I’ll just see them and then not working them. Even with having these books from a year to 3. Not good. So the goal for the year with these two is to make a thing or two with the books.

Aaaaaaaaaannnnnddd. I’m done. There’s some other things I need to get through with things, but that’s all that’s necessary to ramble about righ tnow.

I have more thoughts on them but it's late as hell and I need to get my sleep schedule back to normal before school starts. My handwriting is a little messy in this one so I'll put what it says under this nifty readmore, along with elaborations for some points)

2 bodies, 1 mind (like Cerberus Helltaker)

Rarely referred to individually (neither pawn is mentioned by itself unless the other is unavailable for some reason; others just call them Chess Choco, which is already canon so pffbfbft. They use "I" instead of "we" for themselves too)

Different abilities depending on body

Sycophantam, Sifon, Olimdolet, and Apallasso

(Here we are! And for those who haven't read the spell doc and may be out of the loop, some descriptions of these spells:

Sycophantam: One of Puff's, which allows her to shapeshift into just about any animal, real or fictional (here, she's taken the form of a griffon). ...This was made before the whole spirit concept became canon, as you can probably tell. She doesn't use it a whole lot because there's not many situations that call for it.

Sifon: Peppermint's only listed spell, one that summons a waterspout to pull targets in and send them flying. The only real use it has to a pacifist such as it is for when Soda wants a surfing challenge. It worries for him, but he's not gotten hurt, at least.

Olimdolet: Snowy's last resort spell, converting their negative emotions (the doc just says rage, but I think it can go further) into a wall of dark magic that slams onto an opponent, rendering them unconscious. As Fuocoblu does to Azzy, this spell will force them to melt and make them incapable of using magic/flying until they can fully recover. Failure to keep them cold will result in their death (no continues this time), so they would rather not risk using it. And they haven't, yet, as far as you all know.

Apallasso: Sorbet's only listed spell, enabling them to shoot stored electricity from their horn. Now, this electricity can come from nature (the spell is especially strong during a thunderstorm) or spells; the more they have stored, the stronger it will be. Surely if they were to battle Puff, it'd be a really shocking battle...)
