Headcanon of the week: More of a map theory, actually. (Part 1)
I'm gonna go through some games and talk about how I think the maps relate.
Part 1: NES The Legend of Zelda and Echoes of Wisdom.
I was very impressed by Echoes of Wisdom's map, so I'm very excited to talk about some interesting things I noticed while playing the game.
First things first, I'm just gonna slap TLoZ on EoW's map. It's much easier than I thought it would be:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Make sure to click/tap on the photos to easily swipe between them to see the similarities. The shore to the east has changed a bit over time, but even that is in the right place. I'll display some common features between the two locations:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most notable similarities are the gravesite and the bodies of water in the center of TLoZ. Both maps have a lake south of a mountain with two islands. The lake has a river running south from it on both maps. The graveyard is west of the river. East of the two-island lake are two more lakes in TLoZ. At first, the lakes seem to be missing in Echoes, but I was amazed to discover that there is a depression in the ground in the exact spots where the lakes will be. You can see it more clearly here:
Tumblr media
The two dry lakes are marked by Zelda's head. The location matches exactly. You can also have a clearer view of the possible future shoreline to the east. There are a few possible ways the shoreline could end up, based on the cliffs jutting out of the waters in the Zora area. I personally take great interest in the particularly tall cliff that goes east from the reticle and then goes south. Then the greenery ends, but there is a cliff that continues west at the bottom with water south of that. I think that's a very similar shape to the shoreline of TLoZ. I'll let you decide which cliffs you think mark the future shore.
Going back to the previous pictures with my notes scribbled on top, you'll see a few lines that connect circles. These are locations that may be connected. So far, I haven't had to stretch the map at all, but these northern locations are a bit off, so the relationship is more tenuous. The body of water to the northeast is especially questionable, but I found it worth mentioning. The connected circles more in the middle of the northern area have a little more evidence backing their possible connection. If you look closely at the LoZ map, you can hopefully see a river running from the smaller lake to the north into the larger two-island lake. Actually, let me get a better picture for you.
Tumblr media
Ah, now you can see that river. It mostly runs east to west across the northern section of the map. On the maps with my markings, I marked that river with a purple line with an arrow pointing up to another purple line. Because the northern lake I circled in Echoes also has a river flowing from that body of water to the two-island lake. Part of it is much wider and contains little ice flows, but it could very well be the same northern lake with the same river flowing into the larger lake.
How this relates to other maps and the importance of it:
Finding NES The Legend of Zelda's location on the Echoes of Wisdom map is very useful because it was hard to figure out where TLoZ and Zelda II: Adventure of Link (AoL) were in relation to Lesser Hyrule (the ALttP/ALBW map). We knew AoL takes place primarily north of Death Mountain, and TLoZ is in the southwestern part of AoL's map, but it wasn't so clear where that was compared to earlier games on the downfall timeline. But since Echoes is just an extended version of the ALttP/ALBW map, we can see that TLoZ takes place just northeast of the castle, easily marked by the shared gravesite. Is the castle that the EoW princess lives in the same one that the LoZ princess lives in? Possibly! Or maybe Echoes' castle has been destroyed by the time of TLoZ, and that Zelda lives elsewhere. We can't say for sure.
Part 2 - Zelda II: Adventure of Link and Breath of the Wild (with a side of NES The Legend of Zelda)
Part 3 - Echoes of Wisdom and Breath of the Wild/TOTK

The LoZ AU map is complete!
Lots of locations to explore in this one. I have to say this map was incredibly fun to make, figuring out locations, painting the details, and making sure they read well, as well as all the lively colors.
I have to share the credit with @tsukinoshinjiu who guided me with her obsession expertise on all things LoZ. Thanks sis!

I’ve been working on this idea that the Hyrule we see in Breath of the Wild is actually just Lesser Hyrule—the southern half everyone knows, but not the full picture. In my version, there’s a whole northern territory that’s always existed—just never shown in the games. It’s where parts of the Hylian nobility, old Sheikah outposts, and hidden settlements might have been, way before and even after the Calamity.
I’ve been mapping it out for my fanfiction and audiodrama, trying to keep it consistent with the established geography so it feels like it fits. Continuing climate zones, same sense of ancient ruins and half-forgotten roads—just… more space for stories to happen.
I love the idea that if you kept walking past the edges of the map, you’d find other provinces, maybe with their own legends and conflicts that never made it into the game.
Anyway, I’m calling it Greater Hyrule for now. That’s where a lot of my characters and plotlines end up crossing paths as they venture down south.
Eventually I'll have the entire world map to showcase that will be my take on every country/kingdom in the Zelda world and how they fit in the Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom Era.
Lastly, the text used is my take on in game Hylian Script but changed so it can be read in English, but having that same aesthetic.
If anyone’s interested I have that font for download as well. It’s been a fun way to make the world feel bigger and more alive.

Sending this ask so you’re forced to share your loz ocs again someday 😇
Fiinnneeee 💥 I don’t remember what I said in the post about them so I might repeat some stuff on accident ……. Who knows……
Got a lot of questions about the cult so I’ll just give some quick context bc im too lazy to draw anything for this: Link and Aryll both were born to parents that were already in the cult, so they grew up in it. The cult worships Ganondorf and is actively trying to resurrect him! They have his body (corpse from like hundreds of years ago) and according to legend they need blood of a priestess and a hero yk yk ,, Links scars are from the sacrifice !! Idk yet if they chose to take his eye and hand for the ritual or if that happened when he tried to escape but that happened in the night they tried to sacrifice him !!!

That is all I have uhmmm for anyone that wanted more stuff ☝️ bye

LoZ: Ternary Ages △ World of Hyrule
Tumblr media Tumblr media
⚔ Hyrule Overworld
Hyrule is broken into 9 major regions: Central Hyrule, Faron, Necluda, Lanayru, Eldin, Woodlands, Hebra, Tabantha, and Gerudo. Smaller regions such as Lost Woods, Akalla, Lurelin, Ridgelands, and the Barren Basins fill the gaps.
The colored map highlights the territories of the existing nations. The Sheikah of Necluda and Hylians os Faron/Lurelin are considered in Hyrule proper but are still unique nations.
The Rito have not unified and the Kokiri do not consider themselves a 'nation.'
Tumblr media
❇ Central Hyrule
Leader: Hylian Royal Family (King Rhoam, Queen Zirda, Princess/Queen Zelda)
Allies: Zora, Goron, Kokiri, Sheikah, Lurelins
Adversaries: Gerudo, Hebra Rito
Neutral: Tabantha Rito
Sage of Light - Zirda | Triforce of Wisdom - Zelda
Central Hyrule is the land of Hylia, filled with sloping plains, green grass, gentle winds, and elegant mountains reaching for the heavens. The land is rich with grains, fruit, lumber, cattle, and fresh water bodies. Dotting the plains, hills, and forests are small towns, surviving on cattle and the land, harvesting and trading to stay afloat in their prosperity. On an inselberg, north of the nation, sits Hyrule Castle and its town. Bustling with trade, music, and wealth, the town and castle are architectural beauties, densely populated and only silent at night. Cathedral structures, cool cobalt stone, and glorious red banners lined with golden embroidery loudly announce abundance. Nothing beats the Temple of Time, a huge ancient structure said to protect the gate to the Sacred Realm, where Hylia rests. Gardens with archways, marble altars, and murals are scattered throughout. Castle Town is known for its grand festivals and parties, adoring their king, queen, and princess and praying for the Hero. It' people worship the primordial goddess Hylia and the Three Golden Goddesses: Farore, Din, and Nayru. Their sovereign leader is the reigning royal family, a monarchy known for their generosity to their people, divine powers, and a desire to unify the land at large.
Tumblr media
𑁍 Lurelin/Faron
Leader: N/A
Vassal nation to Hyrule
Hero of Courage/Triforce of Courage - Link
South of Central Hyrule, Faron is a wet and coastal region, littered with some dense woodlands abundant with rain. Its people are all former pirates and seafarers, having settled in this coastal region after the Great Sea pulled away, revealing its lush, fertile soils. Trades of fishing, butchery, woven mercantile, glorious fabrics and tapestries, and ivory/shell material have earned the area a name for itself. The region is a vassal to Hyrule, serving its royal family and has no internal governmental structure. While they worship Hylia, the land is said to be Farore's birthplace so her divinity is highly respected here, thus, so is the Hero. The Hero is worshipped and all children are prayed to be the Hero. The Earth Temple is here.
Tumblr media
𓁿 Necluda
Leader: Sheikah Elder, Diya
Vassal state to Hyrule.
Sage of Shadow - Parrane
Necluda is the mountainous valley home to the Sheikah tribe, a collection of white-haired people who have long served the Hylian royal family and institution. Often called the 'Shadow People,' the Sheikah are very secretive in their valley, keeping close, barred watch on its eastern border with Lurelin. Kakariko Village, if reached, is friendly and sacred. Legend says that dragons are born from their neighboring lake, swirling into the sky and cutting through the famous, notably Dual Peaks. The Sheikah are masters in stealth, potions and oils, balms, chicken byproducts, and metallurgy. The people are led by the Sheikah Elder, Diya. Her niece, Impa, serves as Hyrule's princess' guard. The Sheikah nobody Parrane would eventually awaken as the Sage of Shadow, the tenant of the Shadow Temple - a dense system of caves and wells all connected, eventually turned into a torture chamber for the royal family.
Tumblr media
⏾ Lanayru
Leaders: Zora Royal Family (King Inogo, Queen Lala, Princess Ruti)
Allies: Hyrule, Gorons
Adversaries: Gerudo
Neutral: Ritos
Sage of Water - Malan
The Zora live in the rainy, dark, mountainous, and luminescent Lanayru. A watery paradise filled with glowing stones, ancient ruins half-buried in lakes, and dense evergreens, Lanayru is a heavenly place. Soaked, the land thrives in an industry of trading metals, crabs, fish, flora such as honeysuckles, nightshades, and evergreen saps. With a rich history in monument building, the Zora's have impeccable craftsmanship with stone, metal, and ice, trading statues and polished stone and gem talismans. King Inogo and Queen Lala run the Zora with a benevolent but iron fist, being pompous and pretentious much of the time. Jabu-Jabu is the god of the Zora, a turbulent and finicky water creature that lives in Lake Ruta, believed to bring floods, rains, droughts, and ice storms with a simple bellow. To keep Jabu-Jabu pleased, the Zora employ a royal musician to soothe the god.
Tumblr media
ঌ Eldin
Leader: Goron Chief Amato
Allies: Hyrule, Zora
Adversaries: Gerudo
Neutral: Hebra Rito
Sage of Fire - Dobras
At the mercy of Death Mountain, the Gorons populate the region of Eldin. Eldin is mountainous, jagged, hot, and overflowing with lava and hidden hot springs. Abundant in the mountain is ores and metals, making fine armor, weapons, and armaments/artillery. With the lava of the mountain, Gorons make ointments, religious and brotherly souvenirs, towering monuments/statues, and deadly catapults. Death Mountain is seen as the Golden Goddess Din's throne, where she sits and bestows either blessing or destruction on the denizens of Hyrule - earning the mountain a godlike reverence from the Gorons. Born from the stone, Gorons are a peaceful but powerful race, led by a chief Amato. The Gorons are expert blacksmiths, strategists, and musicians - being friendly above all else. Their rock roast and spring-boiled eggs are to die for!
Tumblr media
𖤓 Gerudo
Leader: King/Lord Ganondorf Dragmire
Allies: Tabantha Rito
Adversaries: Hyrule, Zora, Goron, Kokiri
Neutral: Hebra Rito
Triforce of Power/Vessel of Malice - Ganondorf | Sage of Spirit - Riar'svah
Locked in by towering mountains, the Gerudo desert is a harsh, near unlivable area. Despite this, a rich array of creatures, flora, and people dwell in the desert. Amidst Molduga, saffina, juicy melons, oases, and tangy fruits, the Gerudo people have amassed an empire. The Gerudo Fortress is a feat: built jutting out of the mountain at the foot of the Desert Colossus, with windcatchers using the winds from the Highlands to cool the fortress, the underground reservoir waters are pumped upwards to flow through the fortress. Mosaics, walls of glass and gems, and tapestries ordain the fortress with beauty. Their matrilineal and matriarchal society worship the Sand Goddess and spiritually venerate their ancestors through colossal statues, colosseums, and underground sanctuaries. Trading fabrics, gems, dyes, Molduga parts, and gold, the Gerudo are wealthy and sovereign. A male is born once every 100 years, the current one on the throne, overseeing their three part government: king/chief, spiritual priestess, and magic elders.
Tumblr media
𐦍 Rito
Tabantha:
Leader: Komilli & Needeema
Allies: Gerudo
Adversaries: Hebra Rito
Neutral: Hyrule
Sage of Wind | Komilli
Tabantha is a rich area of sloping plains, tall grass, and a gradual fade into cold, windy mountains, dense with snow. The Tabantha Rito tribe live in the northwest pocket of the region, specifically on the bird-shaped island in Medhoh Lake. There, they thrive in the towering ivory and stone structure, creating expert bows, arrows, wheat and grain products, and woven/braided material. They trade little with Hyrule, usually in exchange for foodstuffs. These Rito are tactical archers and woodwind musicians, famous for their lullabies and melodies heard echoing across Tabantha's frontier. In the Rito divide, the Tabantha coveted the Wind Temple, a towering structure nestled away in the mountains where the wind howls relentlessly, buffeting all who come near. This temple is their sacred place, challenging young Rito to brave the tormenting winds to reach it and leave offerings to the mysterious half-Rito, half-Hylian there, simply named Wind Player. The Sage of Wind, Komilli, turns his back on Hyrule when the war starts and his fellow leader, Needeema agrees, making the Tabantha Rito a neutral party...mostly. Komilli receives a vision and flies into the Gerudo Highlands where he meets with the Gerudo Sage... a deal was struck, that's all many know.
Hebra:
Leader: Edeeri
Perilous drops, slick ice, and thick snow loom over the dry, windy tundras of Hebra. Isolated, adversarial, and unwelcome, the Hebra Rito tribe are hostile to all who cross their lands, flying high above to spot and dive bomb intruders. Their hostility is unknown in origin but their callousness is not out of a violent inclination rather a desire to be left alone, safe, and separate from the divine back and forth in Hyrule proper. Since they engage in no trade or official communications, not much is known about the Hebra Rito save for a few stories and ideas. Their arrows are crafted of stone and lumber, with feathers plucked from the tail feathers of their user. They worship no god or goddess and their leader, seen in glimpses so brief many wonder is she is real, is Edeeri, an all-black Rito near twice the size of her companions.
𖧧 Woodlands / Lost Woods
The Kokiri and the Lost Woods inhabitants are non affiliated, choosing to remain in their shrouded depths of gnarled roots, misty meadows, endless lakes, and the shade of the Great Deku Tree. Tatu, the keeper of the Master Sword, is the only Kokiri who graces Hyrule, citing a divine calling to reach out and aid in the incoming rise of the Demon King.

God I think Kadaj and Genesis should be put in a room together. 15 year old who thinks he’s Jesus and 25 year old who insufferably quotes Shakespeare. They can both summon god.
Either they’d bond over their weird Sephiroth centric inferiority complexes and start an even worse cult than the bullshit either of them individually created or they’d try to kill each other on sight and there’s no in between

SO.......... I've been thinking about an original Zelda story lately
The Legend of Zelda - Fractured Realm
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven't talked about it at all yet, but these yhree have been on my mind consistently enough for me to have to draw them
More info under the cut!!
The (hypothetical) game takes place in the downfall timeline, some time after Adventure of Link. Enough time has passed for villages to have expanded and new ones to be built!
But one day the ground shakes, parts of the earth disappear, new parts taking their place - like someone mixed together three different jigsaw puzzles and is forcing them together into one picture.
Now it's up to Link to find the source of the sudden merge of worlds and realities and restore order to Hyrule - with the help of his fairy companion and Zelda's guidance.
Some more about the characters!
Link
18 years old
Has a cleft lip!
Loser from Old Saria Town - a fisher village, yet he can't fish
His boss tried to find some use for him, but all he's seemingly good for is catching crawfish - and colds
The towns people look down on him
He lives with his aunt, the only person who supports him
His parents died on sea, he's afraid of the sea because of it
He ties flies! Not to use as bait though, just for fun and for the pretty art!
Very shy, still has to find his courage
Scared of Zelda tbh
Honorary lad name is Kalimba
Zelda
In her 60s probably?? Maybe older
She knows a lot more than she's telling anyone
The whole story may or may not be all calculated by her already
Very hard to impress
Direct descendant of Zelda I! Either daughter or granddaughter, couldn't decide yet
She takes her role very seriously
Doesn't dress too fancy - people respect her so much she could probably be in her pajamas and they'd still listen to her
She's mastered the art of communication through looks and glares
Intimidating aura
Doubts Link heavily at first
Puzzle
Little fairy companion!!! What? The name sounds familiar?? Must be a coincidence...
He's been working together with Zelda for a little while before teaming up with Link
Gets half of his knowledge from Zelda
In the (hypothetical) game his sound effects would be flute or recorder notes
Cheerful little thing - thoroughly enjoys zipping around
As is tradition for fairy companions, he nests in Link's hair or hat
Not a shred of doubt in his desision to pick Link - he has full faith in him
May or may not be the spirit of a previous hero........
That's all I'll share today!! I'm open to questions if y'all have any :]
I don't have a title for this yet, so I'm open to suggestions as well 👉👈 THANK YOU FOR VOTING ON THE POLL EVERYONE!! :]]
Thanks for reading this far!! I hope you enjoyed! :]]]

I think the least canon thing in all of LoZ is the map. Every single game it changes so irreparably—"Zora's Domain is out east- oh, sorry, I mean all the way up north. It's east again now! Oh, the volcano? That's in the northeas-WEST. NORTHWEST. No that's snowy area now it's east again. Hyrule Castle is in the middl- nort- west of the country. Can't miss it. The Temple of Time is there- no it isn't, it's about as far from the castle as you can get. The Lost Woods? It's called 'Lost' for a reason, we can't find it. Ever."

I promised you all a map, so here is a map of Castle Town (for now)
Some descriptions of areas and an overview under the cut.
CASTLE TOWN
The largest city in all of Hyrule, and the only one not significantly damaged by the Mage War. It is separated into five color-coded "corners," each with their own function. Hyrule Castle is, of course, at the center. It has a rivalry with the second-largest city, Loomington, located in southwestern Hyrule.
Adventurer's Emporium: A one-stop shop for potions, shields, weapons, and anything one might need on a long trek through the Hyrulean wilds. Though most of its goods are of fine quality, they tend to be on the expensive side…maybe try one of those other stores first.
Mystic Violet Market: More of an event than an actual place of interest, but by most tourists it’s treated like one anyway. Merchants from all over Hyrule come here to buy and sell exotic wares, from enchanted stones to strange meats to rushroom oil and anything in between. Entertainers will squeeze in between stalls looking for a generous person to give them some rupees for their time. There are even some special games to play, like bombchu bowling and digging for treasure. After you get past all that glamour, wagons of fresh food from local farms, prepared food and snacks from bakeries and candy shops all across town are usually towards the back. Make sure to watch your purse, though: pickpockets love to sneak into crowds here.
Rogue Soldier Plaque: A large, decorated plaque commemorating the capture of Castle Town's first enemy after Rebirth, a renegade soldier that sacked buildings and burned them with his group of vagabonds.
Flowering Square: Some like to call this the prettiest part of Castle Town. Several years ago a well-respected member of town made it her mission to beautify the Red Corner with flowers cultivated from the nearby mountains, and this is the result of her efforts.
National Library: A large, ornate building with most of the records and knowledge to be had before Rebirth. It has large swaths of resources concerning magic, history, biology, architecture, engineering, and everything in between. Some of the greatest minds in Hyrule linger for long hours here studying, as well as printers transcribing some of the more popular tomes to be printed and sold. The library doesn't allow books to be taken out of its walls, and damaging or destroying an original copy is considered a great crime.
Old Prison: A dingy-looking collection of cells and a connected guardhouse with a small armory, one floor above-ground and the other below. Despite its humble appearance it's contained some of Hyrule's most dangerous criminals. Contrary to the name, this is actually a jail: ALT!Hyrule does not have prisons or a proper prison system.
Old Barracks: If soldiers from the nearby training camp don't have a place to stay, they can cheaply reside here, if they choose. After Rebirth, this was the place where the last remaining soldiers from the Mage War were found.
Magic College: A place of great learning for those interested in becoming mages! Students from all across Hyrule come here to study both magic and how to use it responsibly. The professors here are on the cutting edge of magic, always developing novel ways to apply it to everyday life.
Hyrule Castle: The epicenter of Castle Town, this mysterious building was attacked by Ganon twelve years ago, and it's where he was sealed away yet again by Zelda and the True Mages (or so they say.) Some of its many towers and nooks still remain hidden from the public eye.
Reformatory: To keep people off the streets and give them work to do, the True Mages have developed a system of rounding up the poor and sending them here until they have another place to stay. Despite the apparent good intentions of the project, it's rumored that the Reformatory doesn't treat its residents well.
