Thank you for the tag, @illarian-rambling ! I’ve done all the main OCs thus far, but I can bring out Johnny Astrum from Lone Star Rangers for this one

Were you named after anyone?

Nah. Astrum’s the name that runs in the family. Come from a buncha cow herders. Figures, right?

When was the last time you cried?

I don’t cry. I get even.

Do you have any kids?

I’m on the move too much to settle down. Bounty huntin’s not the cozy lifestyle you wanna raise a family in.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Depends. Sometimes that’s how you lure a target. Gotta use the best tactics to draw the varmints out, y’know?

What is the first thing you notice about people?

If there’s a bounty on ‘em. They act all skitterish, always check in’ over their shoulder, always lookin’ to see if anyone’s following’ em. That’s why you gotta act cool so you don’t draw suspicion on yerself.

What is your eye color?

Uh….you probably can’t see my eyes too well. I’m made out of natural gasses. You probably shouldn’t stare at me too long neither, lest you wanna go blind. Definitely makes my job harder—can’t blend in too well.

Scary movies or happy endings?

I’ve been scorned too many times by past partners. I’ll take a scary movie, if they even work on me.

Any special talents?

Wranglin’, Herdin’, Gamblin’, Blowin’ smoke rings and shootin’ through ‘em.

Where were you born?

Andromeda Majoris IV, in the Astora Galaxy sect. That’s where all the Astrums were reared.

Do you have any pets?

I used to work on a farm with my folks. Had cows, horses, chickens, pigs, sheep, you name it. Once I get enough credits to settle down, I’ll get a plot on a gentle star galaxy, raise my own livestock.

What sort of sports do you play?

Do darts count? I have a pretty mean streak o’ darts. Can usually take home lots of credits if the bettin’s high. Definitely have ended in lots of saloon shootouts.

How tall are you?

Oh, I don’t know…maybe 6’8? Bounties have always said I’m an imposing feller. Tried to get to my soft side. Too bad their heads were worth more than their compliments.

What was your favorite subject in school?

School? My parents taught me on the farm. So, I guess….raisin’ animals was my favorite? Or maybe growin’ our crops…I didn’t like reading none….math, maybe. You gotta know how much water to give to the soil, n’ how much feed to the cattle.

What is your dream job?

God damn, if I could just be a farmer and raise animals for the markets, that would be ideal. I got caught up in wanting to be a star….and despite bein’ one in body, in spirit I just wanna settle down, y’know? Bounty huntin’s great n’ all, but my astral bones’ll get weary one o’ these days, and I gotta have a backup plan.

Share Between Dreams at Sunset

Dear Muse,

Sunset Dreams, I once had one.

Vague vision of your eyes, and mild waves of your voice infiltrated my conscious mind and halted at the port where dreams sailed.

Seldom when I paint a lucid portrait of us, it turns out to be as airy as your locks unlike our tangled strands of life sealed in air-tight cardboard boxes.

Contrary to popular belief, storytelling isn’t one of my strongest pursuits. But perhaps I’ll have a marvelous time ruining my treasured mirage for you.

Walking in a gown through the lobby filled with murmur, I spotted an acquaintance walk in. Notably, he was wearing the same colour as me – White. But how did it ever skip my mind that white had variant shades and they don’t always compliment each other. I greeted him with the familiar smile that repeatedly made it quite futile for people to decipher its legitimacy.

He greeted my folks, had lunch and asked me for a place to smoke. I withdrew him to secrecy and walked him out.

Just when I was about to slump against the nearest chair, I espied YOU walking straight to me dressed in the colour that complimented your skin tone the most. Let me just put out the only sane thought that I had in mind, “How do you always manage to be the exact opposite of me?”

But did I enquire that? Nah, I did not.

With sparkling eyes, the only thing I could do was just to return your unwavering gaze. Accelerating to your greeting my dad, given my mom by now grasped that if my wishes came true, it would always have been you.

I chaperoned you to my front porch for a breath of fresh air, and you took out one of your classic cigars. I frenzied, “Have you lost your mind? At least think about your image in front of my folks. I could’ve taken you someplace remote.”

“Do you really think I care about your someplace remote? I am not your whitewashed good boy now. Am I? The only person I care about is you.”

Peeking deep in your watery eyes, I couldn’t infer the latent world behind them. I tiptoed to hold you but rather you bowed to kiss me. We met midway and our noses pecked. And there came the habitual giggle.

I tugged at your coat sleeve. “Where are we going Crybaby?”

“To someplace better Princess”, I replied with the widest grin on my face.

Running through the vast meadows, the aroma of mustard hit us. And we kept running with the collaging sky at sundown. Standing in the middle of nowhere, I turned and gazed at you with teeming emotions. Your face replicated my chords and before another wink, I breathed – I love you!

I got hold of your collar and kissed you until it made every fibre of my being buzz with glee.

Did the auburn hues of the retired sun make my eyelids flutter? You would know better, won’t you? Was it another day of waking up alone? By any chance, was Mary on a Cross playing?

Australien will Print-Medien retten

Auch in Australien wird die finanzielle Lage für die Zeitungsverlage immer schwieriger. Während man bei uns gerade versucht zur Verbesserung deren Lage die Öffentlich-rechtlichen Medien durch eigene Einschränkung von Radio- und Fernsehkanälen zu verbessern, will man Australien mehr gegen die großen Internetkonzerne vorgehen.

So hatte die vorletzte Australische Regierung auf ein sogenanntes Leistungsschutzrecht (ähnlich dem gescheiterten deutschen Modell: Leistungsschutzrecht nach hinten losgegangen) gesetzt. Der gegen den erbitterten Widerstand von Meta und Alphabet eingeführte „News Media Bargaining Code“ wurde von den Plattformen einfach umgangen. Sie vermieden die meisten Berichte zu lizenzpflichtigen Inhalten, was den Print-Medien sogar noch schadete.

Die jetzige Regierung will deshalb dazu übergehen eine steuerliche Abgabepflicht für soziale Medien einzuführen und die Erlöse kleinen und digitalen Regionalmedien zu Gute kommen lassen. Die Umsetzung wird jedoch sicher so schwierig wie in Frankreich, wo man ein ähnliches Modell versucht. In jedem Fall wird es Zeit, dass die Staaten sich bemühen an die unkontrollierten Gewinne der GAFAMs heranzukommen.

Ooo can you tell me more about Lone Star Rangers?

I certainly can!! Thank you so much for the ask, @leatafandom ! 💛✨

Lone Star Rangers is an intergalactic sci-fi that also ties in weird western—so space cowboys and aliens. The protagonist, Jak, is a plant alien whose specific variant is facing extinction. Being the last one alive on his planet, he searches for any signs of life before collapsing into the frost.

Our secondary protagonist Johnny is a space cowboy bounty hunter who is…in his own way….also an alien race. He is a Nova—a race of being that is akin to a star. Along one of his voyages, Johnny lands on Jak’s home planet, finds him nearly dead face down in the snow, and brings him back to his ship….

…in ropes.

That’s right. It’s an enemies to “pardners” to lovers situation. Jak has to convince Johnny not to turn him in for credits, and offers to be his bounty hunting partner. The bounties and situations these two find themselves in will be episodic, whacky, fluffy and angsty.

As our main cast travels across the stars to collect wealth from bounties, they’ll run into some big space syndicates, truly dangerous scenarios, and a whole lot of zany adventures. At the same time, these two will start developing their VERY complex relationship, which will turn into something that goes beyond their own control. From enemies, to pardners, to lovers, back to enemies, back to lovers, a Star Cowboy and a Plant Alien. Where will their journey take them, I wonder? 🤔✨
