A mooncake (simplified Chinese: 月饼; traditional Chinese: 月餅) is a Chinese bakery product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節).The festival is primarily about the harvest while a legend connects it to moon watching, and mooncakes are regarded as a delicacy. Mooncakes are offered between friends or on family gatherings while celebrating the festival. The Mid-Autumn Festival is widely regarded as one of the four most important Chinese festivals.

Mooncakes were originally used as offerings to worship the moon god.

Worshiping the moon is a very old custom in China. It is actually a worship activity for the "moon god" by the ancients. Eating mooncakes and appreciating the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival are indispensable customs for celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival in all parts of China. Mooncakes symbolize reunion. People regard them as festive food, use them to worship the moon, and give them to relatives and friends.

Cultural relics believed to be the predecessor of mooncakes were unearthed:

Mooncakes, traditionally offered as a tribute to the Moon Goddess, have a long and rich history. The term "mooncake" was first recorded in the Southern Song Dynasty in Wu Zimu’s <梦梁录/Meng Liang Lu>.

Over time, mooncakes merged with various regional culinary traditions, giving rise to different styles such as Cantonese, Shanxi, Beijing, Suzhou, Chaozhou, and Yunnan mooncakes, all of which are beloved by people across China：

Mooncakes truly became associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival during the Ming Dynasty. In the writings of Liu Ruoyu 刘若愚, a eunuch during the reigns of the Wanli and Chongzhen emperors, he mentioned in his prison work Zhuozhong Zhi 《酌中志》(Vol. 20, "Brief Record of Culinary Preferences"): “八月宫中赏秋海棠、玉簪花。自初一日起，即有卖月饼者。加以西瓜、藕，互相馈送。西苑鹿藕。至十五日，家家供月饼瓜果，候月上焚香后，即大肆饮啖，多竟夜始散席者。如有剩月饼，仍整收于干燥风凉之处，至岁暮合家分用之，曰‘团圆饼’也”

Translation：

"In August, the palace having event appreciates autumn crabapple blossoms. From the first day of the month, mooncakes are sold,it accompanied by watermelons and lotus roots, and are exchanged as gifts.By the fifteenth day, every household offers mooncakes and fruits in worship, waiting for the moon to rise before burning incense and feasting lavishly, with some gatherings lasting all night. If there are leftover mooncakes, they are stored in a dry and cool place until the end of the year, when the whole family shares them, calling them 'reunion cakes.'

In the Qing Dynasty, there were books that detailed the methods of making mooncakes. For example, Zeng Yi, a female writer and female doctor in the late Qing Dynasty, recorded the "Method of Making Crisp Mooncakes" in her book "Zhongkuilu": "Use white ash flour, half of which is steamed in a steamer, and no water vapor is seen; the other half is raw, and kneaded with lard and cold water. Then, mix the steamed flour with lard. Use a ball of raw oil flour, and wrap a small ball of cooked oil flour inside; use a rolling pin to roll it into a cup-sized shape, fold it into a square; roll it into a ball again, and fold it into a square again; then wrap the filling. Use a cake stamp to stamp it, and put it on the stove to cook. For the oil-flavored filling, use cooked flour, sugar, walnuts, etc., and add a little sesame oil, so that it will not fall apart." The method is very similar to today's Suzhou-style mooncakes.

We've referred to ourselves collectively for so long because the times we end up blurry or rapidly switching makes it hard to establish hard lines between us. But we still don't want to be seen as singular, so we thought we'd craft intros! We'll keep this one updated.

🌌 General information 🌌

🌕 Collective name: Prism / The Prism, Parallel

🌕 Collective pronouns: lu/lun, they/them, ona {More on names, pronouns, etc organized!}

🌕 We are a median subsystem! We're all spiritually alterhuman as well. We consider ourselves to share a soul.

🌕 We are a monoconscious subsystem! We aren't really able to communicate between ourselves. Switching feels more like shapeshifting, but by changing fundamental aspects about ourself/ves.

🌕 We are collectively frontstuck. The closest we can get to leaving front is a tuned-out, almost half-asleep state while members not in the subsystem use the body. However, we can enter headspace to an extent via meditation! We share a mindform that changes appearance depending on facet.

🌕 Our three most likely origins include autistic masking, spiritual alterhumanity, and regular old complex trauma

🌕 We use "we" and "I" both pretty fluidly, since not only are we all connected facets, but we share the same point of awareness due to our monoconscious structure.

🌕 We collectively identify as greysexual demiromantic, but that varies significantly depending on the member! Gender isn't really a factor to us in attraction, and we are all aspec. Most of us consider studial attraction our main form of attraction.

🌕 As for our own gender, the body is transneu, most likely intersex, and we all identify at least partially with the moon, stars, & ocean - but gender specifics vary between members. We're also pretty collectively lunaeflux ! Here's a full gender hoard if you're curious! Species-wise, we collectively identify as a shapeshifter and a changeling, and most of the time a Lunar Elf.

We have a few past lives where we were a moth so I'm an amalgamation of all that, and I also tend to front when we're low energy or need to take a rest. 🌘 Lucis - lu/lun, ou/oun, they/them - #lucis.prism.moonpool [previously prism subsys (lucis)] - Hi, I'm a moon elf that comes around pretty often to hyperfixate/enthuse about special inerests, manage relationships, and do most outerworld magic. I can be a bit of an anxiety holder but that's okay- I'm also the system-manageriest of all of us, so I try to stay aware of and record as much as possible about us. Ask me about our past lives!

🌊 Ocean - they/it, xe/xim, sea/seas - #ocean.prism.moonpool - Helloo, I'm a deepsea creature that separated off from Lucis. I love the water more than anything and I like to think I'm more grounded and productive? I've been here a lot more lately, so I might have something to do with self care. Happy to exist

🦠 Patience - any/it, ey/em/eir - #patience.prism.moonpool [previously #prism subsys (Patience)] - Hello, I'm a recent facet that's here to help stabilize the system's expectations and needs in the face of reality. I took the mindform of Yi from Nine Sols, but I'm not a fictive of him. I try to bring us back to neutral by talking us down and appreciating little things rather than hoping for larger change. It's nice to meet you.

🏔️ Madeline - she/it/they - #Madeline.prism.moonpool [previously #prism subsys (madeline)] - A fictive from Celeste that fronts when we're higher energy - confident, stubborn, and always eager to do things & move forward. One of the most grounded in doing things for ourselves in outerworld, but doesn't show up very often.

💀 Minato - they/them, it/its, lu/lun, ona - #minato.prism.moonpool [previously #prism subsys (minato)] - I'm... I don't even know how to describe my species, I'm the Sea of the Soul in a human body. But I digress. I'm a Minato Arisato (Persona 5) fictive, and the Prism's holder for melancholy and other morbid emotions. I'm asexual and demiromantic. I like to think I'm more confident in myself than facets like Lucis and Eclipse. Each life is precious and short. Memento Mori.

🏹 Link - fae/faer, they/he - #Link.prism.moonpool [previously #prism subsys (link)] - I'm a Link/Hylian fictive that tries to find a balance between helping out others and staying grounded. I like to spend time outside and exist where I am, and I feel drawn toward nature magick. I like talking about my fictive & otherkin canons, Hylian & Sheikah lore & mythos, archery. I get sub-shifts depending on which life I'm feeling most like at the time, it's complicated but still me. I'm halfway between an exotrauma/phoenitrauma holder and a current-trauma holder.

🫧 Soap - it/its - #soap.prism.moonpool [previously #prism subsys (soap)] - a recently formed facet and the first time we haven't at least halfway introjected in a long time. cheerful and sweet but susceptible to RSD symptoms.

Willing to go farther than most of us to take care of what needs to be done, but pushes outsiders away because of it. Keeps an extremely small close circle only ou trusts.

💗 Nora - he/her -#nora.prism.moonpool [previously #prism subsys (nora)] - A nervous yet socialable facet that takes the form of a transfem Nora Universe (SU) fictive. Equal parts passionate and uncertain, struggles to get a grasp on her identity and cares deeply for others. Good at socializing and masking.

🃏 Akira - ae/aer, he/him, they/them - #akira.prism.moonpool [previously #prism subsys (akira)] - Heya, I'm a Joker fictive and I've been here since we started advocating for ourselves in high school. I keep us grounded and try to appreciate the little things, like making good food and sitting outside in nice weather. I'm pretty good at shopping and cooking. There's another Akira here that we're median with, but he's outside the Prism so it's pretty funny when we end up talking to each other. If I could front when I wanted I'd be cooking all our meals with him
