the thing about the idea of sending a message back to my past self is that i think my past self, for whatever problems and troubles i had, was walking on a tightrope, and at any moment i could have fallen off that tightrope and fallen to my death, but my past self managed to navigate it successfully, and tbqh probably doing so was the absolute maximum extent of their ability. if i today have regrets or feelings like "i would have done things differently knowing what i do now", well, tbh i don't actually think that's the case. if i could go back in time and shake my past self and say "you are the master of your fate! you are the captain of your soul!" i don't think it would have done any good whatsoever lol. past me would say, "can you stop shaking me? can't you see i'm trying to balance on this fucking tightrope? do you want me to fall??"

the fact that all of tumblr is collectively obsessed with mermaids and every year in the month of may, every single fandom starts creating fanarts of fictional characters as mermaids... and Yet! mermaid stories practically don't exist in popular media, we don't see mermaid movies, tv shows, video games being made... there is an untapped market and interest for this genre (let's call it that) but corporations are totally not aware of the things people would potentially like to see more of
